After making a long string of anti-Christian remarks, ESPN host Dana Jacobson is getting only a one-week suspension. Lucky for her she didn't say something about Mohammed or another member of the left's "protected class:"
Sources have confirmed that Jacobson, a co-host of "First Take" on ESPN2, currently is serving a one-week suspension because of her behavior at a Jan. 11 roast for ESPN Radio personalities Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic at Atlantic City, N.J.
While declining to confirm Jacobson had been suspended, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said, "Her actions and comments were inappropriate and we've dealt with it."
At the roast, Jacobson made a rambling speech that included vulgar references about Notre Dame. Jacobson is a Michigan graduate, and she and Golic, a former Irish defensive lineman, often have exchanged barbs about the rivalry between the schools.
One eyewitness labeled it an "embarrassing display," and a newspaper account said the crowd booed Jacobson. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis also was in attendance.

However, I am sure if Jacobson's comments had been made on-air during ESPN's Sunday NFL show instead of an untelevised celebrity roast at a restaurant, she would be ancient history by now.

Jer,
January 24, 2008 - 00:18 ET by R D HelmI think you have a point there.
While I think ESPN canning Rush Limbaugh was taking the chicken way out, and the Golf Channel's actions against Kelly Tilghman were similarly cowardly, Jacobson's comments were not made live in front of millions of viewers.
Had they been, I imagine she would be working at DQ by now.
Or perhaps the ACLU. Lol.

If he were held to the same standard to which he holds others, given his utterances over the years, he would be living in a dumpster out behind some K-mart somewhere.
I would say that I wish someone would fire Al's worthless behind, but you have to actually have a job in order to be fired. Lol.

This article pretty much sums up McNabbs comments last year.
'McNabb told Brown that "there are not that many African American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra."
Asked why African American quarterbacks have to do more, McNabb said, "because the percentage of us playing this position, which people didn't want us to play this position, is low."'

Keep in mind the Rush thing on ESPN
January 23, 2008 - 22:55 ET by exLibKeep in mind the Rush thing on ESPN went buy Chris Berman (white) but the other two guys on the panel were black and neither one of them batted an eyelash and, at the time, took his comments seriously.
Then nothing for 2-3 days until Sharpy got on TV and got face time and then after about a week of pressure ESPN folded like a lawn chair. Berman and company were forced to say some insincere apology that was obviously written by upper management.
Then about a month later the head of the Philly chapter of the NAACP made almost the EXACT same comments about McNaab and it got some press for a day and then faded.
I didn't hate the comment
January 23, 2008 - 22:59 ET by balboaI didn't hate the comment because I thought it was racist; I hated it because it was him bringing Rushism, his view on politics into a football show.

January 23, 2008 - 20:27 ET by fitzfongIt's one thing to discuss the disproportionality of her punishment relative to Rush Limbaugh's to illustrate liberal bias. I understand, Chris. Fair
January 23, 2008 - 20:44 ET by fitzfongI understand, Chris. Fair enough. It's just that sometimes I read posts by people demanding a liberal scalp to compensate for the taking of conservative scalps over turns of phrase. Political correctness has a tendency to have people questioning why Dana Jacobsen didn't get fired rather than why Rush Limbaugh did. But I do see your point that some have been rather dismissive of posts and have arbitrarily determined that Subject A is not important enough to discuss on NB.

January 23, 2008 - 19:52 ET by fitzfongThe only reason I ever watched that nauseating show Cold Pizza was to see the lovely Thea Andrews. Then they marginalized her with those gasbags Skip Bayliss and Woody Paige (and that Donny Osmond clone). Then they fired her and hired that GUY, Dana Jacobsen. So I stopped watching it altogether because I hate ESPN...sports coverage sucks, lame off-season programming (Who's More Now?...WTF), empty suit sports geeks involving themselves in socio-political issues way beyond their comprehension, the sickening MNF broadcast of the first post-Katrina Super Dome game, Jim Rome, Tony Kornheiser, Dan "Ted Baxter" Patrick, Stephen A. Smith...but I digress. Anyway, I don't care much about this roast story...I understand the argument that since the cowardly suits at ESPN fired Rush Limbaugh for the pathetic controversy over Donavan "Look Up Soft in the Dictionary and You'll See His Picture" McNab and Imus could get pulled for that non-story that fairness would dictate Jacobsen's termination. Ever since Peter O'Malley served Al Campanis up at the altar of Jesse Jackson, I've detested the Dodgers. Frankly, I don't think any of these people (Jacobsen included) should be suspended or fired for these statements. Let the market determine who stays and who goes. Oh, but I forgot, Al Sharpton is the head of the FCC.

January 23, 2008 - 20:56 ET by fitzfongQuite the contrary, I love sports. I just see ESPN as a self-important hype machine...as if sports never existed before the network was created...and as if it can't be presented better. There are dozens of sports-only channels on cable and satellite...but they cover sporting events and sports news...not fashion, music, culture, marketing, politics, etc. And they don't have stupid, unwatchable, self-congratulatory awards shows.

Well, let's put it this
January 23, 2008 - 23:33 ET by fitzfongWell, let's put it this way...I hate baseball, I hate basketball, I hate college sports. I like football, hockey and international soccer (Tottenham Hotspur and the Republic of Ireland). ESPN carries baseball, basketball and college sports. It barely covers hockey or international soccer (Deportes excluded)...and its football coverage is hyped garbage. The less said about their Monday Night Football broadcasts, the better. ESPN is obsessed with individual athletes as opposed to teams, "personalities" as opposed to athletes and a whole lot of ancillary "back story". Their unapologetic reverance for Michael Jordan was just nauseating. And their self-important grandstanding over the steroids "scandal" was even worse. The network carries a bunch of standard geeks tripping over themselves to come up with the next tortured catchphrase so that they may become stars. I hate to say it, but the network went downhill after Olberdouche left. When they ran a crawl announcing that Tiger Woods had fired his caddy, I knew that the network was oversaturated and had nothing interesting to report. That "Who's More Now" mess was the final straw.
ESPN has definitely gone
January 24, 2008 - 00:10 ET by balboaESPN has definitely gone around the bend. When it was Keith and Dan it was good fun. Even Kilborn was good. But, yeah, "Who's More Now" was retarded. Cold Pizza, bad idea.
