The latest outrage from the People's Republic of Massachusetts
November 16, 2007 - 09:30 ET by Prester JohnCambridge Officials Put a Stop to Boy Scout Drive to Aid Troops in Iraq
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The city that's home to Harvard and MIT solidified its nickname as "The People's Republic of Cambridge" when it put a stop to a Boy Scout troop's Election Day drive to collect care packages for American soldiers in Iraq, claiming it was "political."

November 16, 2007 - 09:41 ET by BruzillaI thought the best part of the debate was the Hillary cheerleaders in the audience who we're well trained to boo when any candidate said anything negative about Hillary. I'm guessing that the idea was to try to scare the other candidates into not criticizing her out of worries that the audience was against negative campaigning. But like most Hillary plots, they didn't do it quite right, and the plants booed when she was criticized but not when any other candidate was criticized, which blew the whole deal.
Kudos to Obama for talking through the boos and continuing to make his point on Clinton's BS use of numbers.

A: thirty-eight: One to say that no one could have foreseen the bulb's burning out, one to spin stories for newspapers that it's George Bush's fault, thirty-five to go out on talk shows to accuse the Republicans of delaying legislation, and one to deny

contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House...
One from New Jersey, another from Tennessee and the
third Florida. They go with a White House official to examine the
fence.
The Florida contractor takes out a tape measure and
does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well", he says, "I
figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and
$100 profit for me."
The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring
and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300
for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The New Jersey contractor doesn't measure or
figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."
The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even
measure like the other guys!
How did you come up with such a high
figure?"
The New Jersey contractor whispers back, "$1000 for
me, $1000 for you and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the
fence."
"DONE!" Replies the government official.
And that, my friends, is how it works.

Hillary and the old cow...
November 16, 2007 - 09:52 ET by rx4musicHappy Friday everybody!-
Hillary Clinton and her driver were cruising along a country road
one evening when an ancient cow loomed in front of the car. The
driver tried to avoid it but couldn't -- the aged bovine was struck and
killed.
Hillary told her driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the
owners what had happened. She stayed in the car making phone calls to
lobbyists.
About an hour later the driver staggered back to the car with his
clothes in disarray. He was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive
wine in one hand, a rare, huge Cuban cigar in the other, and was smiling
happily, smeared with lipstick.
"What happened to you," asked Hillary?
"Well," the driver replied, "the farmer gave me the cigar, his
wife gave me the
wine, and their beautiful twin daughters made mad
passionate love to me!"
"My God, what did you tell them?" asked Hillary.
The driver replied, "I just stepped inside the door and said, I'm
Hillary Clinton's driver and I've just killed the old cow. The rest happened
so fast I couldn't stop it!"

November 16, 2007 - 10:44 ET by rx4musicIt's rapidly turning into "OC" from one end of the state to the other. Tract homes as far as the eye can see. Pauma Valley is one of the areas that got hit pretty hard by the fires. 30,000+ acres if I recall correctly. Mostly along the base of Palomar Mountain, through the LaJolla Indian Reservation and adjacent hills. Between the libs and the illegals I can't say which I find more threatening. My kids are in a great school system and are thriving here, but, I don't see myself being able to retire here. If they stay here in CA for college (there really are some great ones here) I'll tough it out and keep working here, but, if they decide on out of state schools, there isn't anything really keeping me here... It's sad because all the rest of my family moved out years ago. I've stayed because of the business I used to be in. I don't do that anymore and now I could go almost anywhere and be happy. I'm just not sure where to go. Anybody got any suggestions? I'm serious...

OU sucks!
November 16, 2007 - 10:19 ET by sunandsteelJust thought I would put that in there.
Seriously, this is why there needs to be a playoff system for Div 1 (or whatever they call it these days) football. Kansas is unbeaten so far, but if polls work like they have in the past, they could stay unbeaten and drop out of a title shot for someone with more "prestige". PLAYOFFS NOW, PLAYOFFS NOW!! Whoa, had a dirty hippie protest moment there, lol.

November 16, 2007 - 12:16 ET by MikeB"Kansas is unbeaten so far, but ... they could stay unbeaten and drop out of a title shot for someone with more 'prestige' ..." and a tougher schedule. Don't get me wrong, Kansas has played some good games against some good opponents. But they don't have nearly the quality of opponents that some of the other colleges have had. If they beat Missourri for the Big 12 north title, then OU for the Big 12 championship, then they'll have accomplished something, and would perhaps deserve a shot at the national title. How would you structure a play-off? Would you want an NCAA football tournament like the basketball tournament? Or, perhaps instead of the top 64 teams start with the top 32? No matter what you do, someone is going to whine about how unfair it was that their team didn't get to go to the tournament or play for the title.
"A communist is someone who reads Marx. An anti-communist is someone who understands Marx." Ronald Reagan
Playoffs
November 16, 2007 - 12:29 ET by sunandsteelIf they were to consult me (I dont know why they havent yet, lol) I would: 1. keep the conferences roughly the same; 2. take the independents and either put them in various conferences or make a whole new one; 3. move to a standard 11 or 12 game schedule starting the same week; 4. take the winner and runner-up from each conference and they make the playoffs, none of this invite baloney they do for basketball. Split conferences (Big 12, SEC) would count as two seperate conferences. I think this way would be the most fair, if your team doesnt make it, its because they arent that good. It would also work to help someone like Boise State who went undefeated in 2006, but didnt get ranked high because of a bad conference. It would make the top 25 poll rather useless, but would work to actually prove who is the better team, IMO.
As far as Kansas and strength of schedule, conference wise, they play the same teams as Nebraska, and Nebraska (when they arent stinking up the joint) are usually ranked pretty high. Same with Oklahoma. The non conference games do have a lot to do with it also, cant move up if you constantly play Div 2 teams like Appalachian State. (Take that Michigan >:-P )

A Fish Called Wanda
November 16, 2007 - 10:26 ET by KC MulvilleI loved it when Dennis ("he's an angry elf") Kucinich smugly said that he opposed the Patriot Act ... "because I read it." The crowd whooped and hollered at Dennis' zinger. But then, in a rare display of sanity, Joe Biden stood, turned directly to confront Kucinich, and announced that there was nothing in the Patriot Act that authorized racial profiling. (Implication: Kucinich can't read.)
I kept thinking of the scene in "A Fish Called Wanda." Jamie Lee Curtis (Wanda) angrily confronts Kevin Kline (Otto).
Priceless.

AND THE TAX CAP
Hillary votes no to win votes but she won't speak the truth. Barack has the courage to speak the truth. Citizens need everybody to have drivers liscense so they can be monitored for insurance and accidents and alcohol related deaths. He also pointed out the need to PASS an imigration bill to get those people on a path to citizenship. They will be needed to feel like americans so they can keep our social secuirty system fluid.
Hillary also got BUSTED on her statement about not RAISING THE CAP on social secuirty because she says the tax increase will hurt the middle class!
Barack stated that the 6% getting paid 97,000.00 a year is NOT THE MIDDLE CLASS !
Hillary also stated that she thought the american education system served us well ?? NOT ! !
Hillary also got BUSTED on her vote for the kyle Lieberman and the mother and the Iraq war veteran son who clapped when the rest of the candidates pointed out they were AGAINST the Kyle Lieberman bill to make the Iranian guard a terrorist organization and how the bill also allows for Bush to keep troops in iraq !!
Yes Hillary got busted BIG TIME the truth always comes out.
Thank God we have a candidate like Barack Obama who speaks the truth and doesn't shift back and forth trying to get votes. Hillarys thinking people won't catch her shifting her point of view from one location (town) to another as she lies lies lies trying to sway the american voters !!
Hillary on pakistan http://www.liberaloasis.com/2007/11/clinton_on_pakistan.php
Here's Sen. Hillary Clinton discussing Pakistan at Thursday night's debate: = http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/15/us/politics/15debate-transcript.html?pagewanted=print
... there's absolutely a connection between a democratic regime and heightened security for the United States. That's what's so tragic about this situation. After 9/11, President Bush had a chance to chart a different course, both in Pakistan and in Afghanistan, and could have been very clear about what our expectations were. We are now in a bind, and it is partly -- not completely, but partly -- a result of the failed policies of the Bush administration.
So, where we are today means that we have to say to President Musharraf: Look, this is not in your interest either. This is not in the interest of the United States. It is not in your interest to either stay in power or stay alive.
Sure sounds like she wished Bush pushed for democratic reform in Pakistan, instead of propping up Musharraf's dictatorship.
But here's what she said in a debate from August, = http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/08/us/politics/07demsforum.html?_r=1&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print
when criticizing Sen. Barack Obama's pledge to strike terrorists in Pakistan's border region if Musharraf would not act on actionable intelligence:
I think it is a very big mistake to telegraph that and to destabilize the Musharraf regime, which is fighting for its life against the Islamic extremists who are in bed with al Qaeda and Taliban.
Of course, as everyone now knows, Musharraf is primarily fighting for his life against lawyers and judges, not the tribal militants.
Sen. Clinton is not alone among Dem candidates in supporting Musharraf.
Both Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Chris Dodd have expressed support for Musharraf to maintain "stability."
Whereas Obama, Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. Joe Biden = http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=3498294
have been more consistent in supporting democratic principles.

Danielle, Im not sure what
November 16, 2007 - 10:59 ET by bassndudeDanielle, Im not sure what your getting at here. That you are aginst Hillary is evident, and you sound like your trying to pump up support for Obama. The truth of the matter is, there are not many in here that would give you 2 cents for either of them. Both say they will have a test for judges to support Roe v Wade. That means the want activist judges. Obama wants to put in a janitor as a supreme court justice. Thats just stupid. The whole lot of them dont even understand the war, dont want to understand it and will run this country and its military into the ground, i.e. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Save your socialist views for a time when you can make a point. Most in here would not vote socialist for nothing.
Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

November 16, 2007 - 13:24 ET by DANIELLECLARKEThat was Joe Biden who wanted the janitor. I think your more interested in talking and not listening. Barack said he wanted someone who felt the pain and need to make changes in the laws.
Besides Barack isn't a bilderberg like clinton or edwards.
And listening in at a CFR meeting does not make him a member who will act like a neo con like hillary with her large earmarks. You surely want this war to stop so do i. Well i surely wish Kucinich was more than just a candidate to appease the far left but thats how i see him because he isn't smart enough to play the game to win so he can change it. barack has changed laws each step of the way. He passed the transparency bill which points out lobbyist and now he has the sunshine bill to point out earmarks.
bye get real and do your research and try listening.
