Earlier this month, Karl Rove said he was a fan of NewsBusters. Count Ann Coulter, author and humorist, as another prominent conservative who is a fan of NewsBusters.
Moments ago, I spoke with her during a conference call for bloggers in which I asked her for her thoughts on MSNBC host Chris Matthews.
Before I got to my question, however, Coulter interrupted. "I love NewsBusters," she said and then turned to my query. Here is her answer:
"Chris Matthews is the perfect example of the media's 'it girl' mentality. He's been on TV forever and been shoved into America's face for years and what does he have like 26 or 27 viewers?
"The media is always trying to pawn these 'it girls' of the moment off on us, I mean look at Ashleigh Banfield who was talked about as if she were the Second Coming. But no one watched. I have no idea where she is today. The same thing applies to Matthews."
At the end of the call, I asked Coulter if she'd be interested in doing an interview with NB. She readily agreed so expect one in the coming days.

*this is me drooling on my keyboard from envy*
Tell Ann I think she's the bomb and I bought her new book last week. I've been a fan of hers ever since she wrote Slander.

October 30, 2007 - 16:19 ET by motherbeltOMG, Ashleigh Banfield...isn't she the one that did the news in a burka, or the next best thing? Coulter's right; she was a flash in the pan..I had completely forgotten about her, as I'm sure everyone else has.

Ashleigh put on some lbs, got new glasses, and is now on Court TV.

October 30, 2007 - 18:10 ET by JoelCTWell, yes, she had some children,

so "put on some lbs" should have an asterisk by it. The rest is true, she never made it back to Prime Time. Nobody misses that "it girl".
Ashleigh Banfield
October 30, 2007 - 18:29 ET by zeestephenShe's a co-host with Jack Ford on one of Court TV's morning slots.
She just came back after a maternity leave of many months.
When she was at MSNBC she would often imply that she was gay, so the baby was a surprise to some of us.
I just finished her latest
October 30, 2007 - 16:19 ET by buddycI just finished her latest book. I loved it. She is a classic. Keep your guard up ANN, the wolves are circling.
Ann is so good and so succinct!
October 30, 2007 - 16:21 ET by c5thenThis also proves that the MSM will subsidise a left-wing hack because they agree with his ideology, ratings be damed. No conservative editorial/opinion/talk host would have survived for anywhere near as long as Chrissy has with the pathetic ratings that he's gotten over the years.

October 30, 2007 - 16:28 ET by bretzysdudeWasn't there speculation that blonde was Ann Coulter? (I was actually going to say the other way around, but I probably would've gotten some weird looks.)

October 30, 2007 - 16:32 ET by bigtimerI can't wait for the interview...looking forward to this, see I knew she had good taste if she loves NBs!
I have followed Ann from her beginning in the msm and will until I can't anymore.
Now if we could just have Matthews disappear as fast as Banfield did, I know it was years with her, but not as long as Matthews...and if he would just take the rest of msnbc with him when he goes I would be happy.
If Ann had a show
October 30, 2007 - 16:34 ET by mattmshe'd blow Matthews, or any other Lefty, off the ratings list.
The Left hates her because in 10 words or less she can obliterate 10 years worth of Liberal lies and distortions, and do it with more wit and style than any 10 of them can muster...
I'd say this makes her a 10.
Matthews had Ann on a while back
October 30, 2007 - 16:39 ET by c5thenHe interviewed her live from outside (somewhere) and was amazed at the crowed that turned out to see Ann. Ironically, it was his highest rated show in years by a few orders of magnitude.

October 30, 2007 - 16:37 ET by KC MulvilleIf you're wondering why Chris Matthews is still on, think of Howard Beale (played by Peter Finch) from the movie Network. He was the character placed on TV, not for ratings, but to spread a message.

October 30, 2007 - 18:13 ET by motherbeltI don't know why people think that just because someone is on TV, that makes what they say unassailable.
I guess that explains why "The View " has not been dumped.

Ann Coulter is the Whole 9 Yards
October 30, 2007 - 18:54 ET by Lame CherryIt would almost be worth it starting up a website just to get conference calls with Ann Coulter.
I don't have much respect for her dating choices as the last one was calling up Babs Walters about Ann..........but apparently Superbabe has her krypton weakness to in order to keep her grounded in she is only human when it is so easy for her to beat the mental bajesus out of liberals.

October 30, 2007 - 18:58 ET by motherbeltMy new favorite AC quote: to Chris Matthews on the occasion of the Elizabeth Edwards sandbag attempt; proving that she takes no prisoners, even if they send out one of their "unassailable" attackers:
"The wife of a presidential candidate is asking me to stop speaking. No."
OK, so it's a few more than 10 words, but still succinct (and "pithy" to boot!")
a great representative
October 30, 2007 - 19:16 ET by uncle_buckAnne Coulter is a great representative and distinguished alumni of the university of michigan. She demonstrates day after day the value of a diploma from that school up north. She's all hart.
Channeling Woody.
October 31, 2007 - 08:05 ET by KarmaCome on now uncle_buck, let's save our emotions for Nov. 17th.
Looking forward to the interview!
October 30, 2007 - 19:30 ET by ViperHad to log in and comment on this one. I'm looking forward to the interview. I've always enjoyed Ann's commentary and verbal illustrations. I often conjure up my own cartoon bubbles when reading her books, columns or watching her interviews. Had a long drive last week and listened to her book (again) on disc, "How To Talk To A Liberal... If You Must". A hoot as usual and the miles just fade away.
Kudo's Matt! Wish I could have been at the conversation table with you as I'm sure it was an enjoyable one.
And one more thing... Ann, if you are reading these posts, I'd like to offer you a gift from me to you. Go to the "contact us" page on the website and e-mail me if you would like to take me up on this offer of my appreciation for being on the front lines.
Ann, if you really are a fan of NB
October 30, 2007 - 19:25 ET by FastEdThen you must mention, sometime soon, that the rest of the world thinks that today's "journalist - reporters" are neither! They, for the most part, painting with a wall paper brush, are "agenda-ists" or an easier word "editorialists", without any concept of history, what is going on in the 'real' world, nor just about anything they "report". In other words, they approach all subjects as if they have done some research, (knowing nothing of the subject), ask the most stupid questions (usually softball if with a demolib), and then react as if they knew what was being said. (if they only knew that WE know - that in reality - they're stupid!)
So, as a fan - let these also ran, almost air america heads know we're on to them!
There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad V
Coulter is Awesome.............
October 30, 2007 - 19:47 ET by BrillianceUsually, when I see Conservative "pundits" make television appearances, I'm left with a feeling of slight frustration as I feel that they have "walked on eggshells" for their entire segment.
Not so with Ann!
Ann leaves me feelin' satisfied.
