Whoa. Million man march
October 23, 2007 - 09:25 ET by LeonWhoa. Million man march jokes. Way to keep it current.
Prime example of what we were talking about last week. Conservatives just aren't contemporary. They love old jokes, which is why they're not funny.
Not too mention that is possibly the least creative farrakhan joke I've ever read. Really?
Please don't tell me someone got $50 for that tripe.
Come on Leon
October 23, 2007 - 09:47 ET by Dee BunkThe joke referenced his recent speech in Atlanta. Get with it. You're slipping. What happened to the constructive criticism? Lets not rehash the whole current thing, I think we established pretty well that liberals are very very stuck in their revisionist history when it comes to jokes or anything else.

October 23, 2007 - 09:51 ET by Hero SquadUh, Leon, the lack of "current-cy" was the point of the joke. Since going into hiding, Farrakhan has become a largely irrelevant figure and now needs to point to past "glories" in order to try and make himself seem important again. I mean, that jumped right out at me. You mean to tell me that a smart, witty liberal couldn't catch that?
Are you free this weekend? Because I have a room that needs a fresh coat of paint, and with that huge brush that you like to use to stereotype conservatives, I figure we can bang it out in an hour or two.

MMM was also not part of the punchline

My apologies I misinterpreted the joke.
Disregard my previous comment.

Farrakhan chose the day
October 23, 2007 - 11:28 ET by candanceFarrakhan chose the day because it was the anniversary of the MMM.
He also referenced slavery at least twice in his speech, which was old news some 150 years ago.

Great Newsbusted episode
October 23, 2007 - 09:39 ET by Dee BunkJodi was great. The last one to do these is always my favorite. Jodi appears to be having the most fun with it and she seems to really believe in the jokes. I think her and Frazier would make a great team if you ever decide to do two at a time. She's animated and he's got a more sarcastic style.
I hope Mark gets a chance behind the desk. Most of the complaints about him were that he moved his head. I don't think that would happen as much sitting and leaning forward on a desk.
One thing that I think could add to the production is if they used different camera angles. I don't know if it's practical with the green board or not but if it's doable it would add a lot to the look and feel.
And we did your laugh track idea!
October 23, 2007 - 11:03 ET by Matthew SheffieldThanks for it :)
I noticed
October 23, 2007 - 11:09 ET by Dee BunkJodi was really good with it. Thanks for trying it! I'm so sick of those people who think that it's some kind of secret and that they are clever for outing it.
Yeah
October 23, 2007 - 11:21 ET by Matthew SheffieldWe tried it w/o the track and it just sounds bad.

October 23, 2007 - 11:36 ET by Hero SquadIf NewsBusted was set up as a dialogue, with two people discussing events and cracking wise in rapid fire succession, you could do it without a laugh track. Otherwise, a laugh track is essential for this or any monologue-type programming.

Agreed...the laugh track
October 23, 2007 - 12:09 ET by motherbeltAgreed...the laugh track acts as a filler, and creates a break between the items.
agree about the laugh track
October 23, 2007 - 12:24 ET by Dee BunkMost sitcoms use them and people know it. Comedy that can't be live due to budget or practicality is better with a laugh track than silence. I'm sure the networks have tested this many times. I don't know of any comedy show that doesn't have either a live audience or a laugh track and movies use soundtracks to accomplish the same thing.
"Arrested Development" had
October 23, 2007 - 13:00 ET by Hero Squad"Arrested Development" had no laugh track, nor does "The Office" and I believe "30 Rock." The technique is extremely effective on single-camera sitcoms, which are shot as little movies rather than as the more traditional multi-camera sitcom, which are more like plays that require the live audience or the perception of one. In the case of A.D., music was used quite frequently to cover the silence.
Three of the last 4 "Best Comedy" Emmys went to the shows above, so there is definitely a trend toward scrapping laugh tracks in some instances, and creatively at least, success in the format.

I've never seen Arrested Development or 30 rock but in The
October 23, 2007 - 14:00 ET by Dee BunkOffice, the humor isn't based on timing and punch lines like most sitcoms and comedy acts are. The reaction to what is being said is the funniest part with the Office. So I can agree with you that there would be cases were it could work. Still, even if some sitcoms are moving that way, I don't think it would work with a traditional comedy show. You have to have a break after the punch line and silence would be awkward. You can't skip the breaks either. I think if anything Newsbusted is still too fast. Mark had the best pace IMO.
I keep meaning to check out Arrested Development on Netflix - thanks for reminding me. I know Bal has spoken highly of that one also
That format works because
October 23, 2007 - 14:05 ET by Matthew Sheffielda lot of the humor is about the awkwardness of the moment. No one does a monologue format (that is one person on stage) without some form of audience, real or fake.
It just doesn't work, believe me, lots of people have tried it.
Good Newsbusted episode

Keep Jodi
October 23, 2007 - 17:45 ET by LighthouseJI like her delivery the most since the first guy, maybe more than the first guy.
I'm glad you guys acknowledged the laugh track. Now the liberals on youtube.com will have to scramble harder to dismiss dissenting opinions now that there isn't any more low-hanging fruit. Given that liberals have proven not to think too much, it'll be a quick defeat of them.

Couple of really good jokes
October 23, 2007 - 18:23 ET by balboaCouple of really good jokes in there. The Gravel thing was funny, and it was fun having the laugh track get angry at the bad pun. This woman is better, but I still don't think you've found the right fit. I agree with some that you gotta have the laugh track, unfortunately, unless you can round up a few people to laugh on command.
I don't have time to read
October 23, 2007 - 18:34 ET by bigtimerI don't have time to read others posts here so if I repeat I apologize...
For me this just keeps getting better and better, Jodi was great, I like both her and Frazer....anyway, keep it going, it is getting better with age as they say...lol.
I liked the Hillary/Geico/Gravel joke and the Farrakhan BS, plus the Air-DeadAmerika ratings...
I like the laugh track
