Announcing ‘NewsBusted’ Comedy Webcast

Photo of Matthew Sheffield.

Here at NewsBusters, we try to stay on the cutting edge of both media and technology, which is why I'm pleased to announce the addition of “NewsBusted,” a comedy show we're releasing today. You can watch the video now over on the top right of this page.

The idea for the show is really quite simple. Politics is absurd, so is the news. Why not have some laughs from it all?

“NewsBusted” will air twice weekly and be available on every NB page as well as on YouTube. We also are taking joke submissions from readers. If we like your joke, we'll pay you $50 and use it in a future show. Send jokes along with name, email, and phone number to rightstuffcomedy@yahoo.com.

PS: If you are trying to get into the NB live chat, click the "chats" link at the top of this page.

Global Warming

I am already blaming "NewsBusted" for causing Global Warming. Oh, and also poverty, pestilence, and endangered sea turtles. All the fault of "NewsBusted."

You forgot

Dead Polar Bears and unemployment.  Hopefully, it will be MSM jobs.

The video is a good idea, but its not working for me.

I can see the youTube player, but when I click on it is says "Loading..." but then nothing.

I am running Firefox 2.0 on WinXPsp2 over broadband cable.

Ahem...

And I quote:  "The show will be online later today but in the meantime, please enjoy the new NB layout."  - first sentence, third paragraph.

Thank you.  Thank you.  No, thank YOU!

I thought it was pretty funny, especially appreciated the Clinton joke

Meh

Folks, the laugh track need to go.  Now.

Props to the actor, but if you really want this to take off, you need to "find" someone who's a natural at this.

New Stuff

Matt:

It is exciting to see and experience all of the different stuff you guys are trying out.  I know not all of it will be a hit with everyone.  I can't wait to give it all a try.

Thanks for what you guys are doing.  Newsbusters is my favorite site.

Newsbusted is great

I love the name. Is this only going to be available on this site? I just tried to search Youtube and it didn't come up. You guys should put it there for more exposure. I'll definitely add it to my subscriptions if you do.

It's there

Guess the YouTube search index takes a little bit to update.

If you click the YouTube image on the video, you'll get to the page on there for it.

Or you can just click this link

Youtube Newsbusted subscription

Cool - thanks Matthew - I have subscribed! I'm #2 does that mean I'll stay at the top? I'm going to be famous. : )

Come on everyone - go to You-Tube and watch it because the more it's watched the higher it is in the queue. Mark it as a favorite and subscribe also - all of it helps exposure. If you don't have an account yet - just do it!

Newsbusted and You Tube

Matthew, Expect it to be classified as 'hate speech' on the Tube, and subsequently burried.

Spyware warning

I'm getting a spyware warning on this page - the address shows ads.adbrite.com. Can you do something about it?

Spyware

Dee:

I've been getting that spyware problem on Newbusters for the last couple months.  Not just on this page.  Most of the time the two applications I run block it but once in a while it breaks through.  Twice my software has actually shut IE all the way down in defense.  I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Plus.

You are right river

It is happening for me on all pages except the home page also. I have those two programs but only run them once in awhile. I have PC illin that is always looking.

Spyware

CT:

The pop-up blocker is on.  When it breaks through it isn't a pop-up.  It appears as a web page.  It takes over the Newsbusters page and wipes everything out.  I have to close IE.  Like I said before.  It has only broken through twice.  Most of the time my software blocks it.

“Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.”  Ronald Reagan

Honestly

I really like this website and the new layout.....but I didnt laugh once during the video.

I think a couple of the jokes had the potential to be funny, but the guy you have trying to make them funny, just isnt funny.

If this is going to work your going to need a pro to not only put jokes together properly but a pro to present the jokes properly.

The humor? You can't have

The humor? You can't have it.

I was hoping for something that actually exposed liberal bias by using the media's own video clips against them.

This is not funny.

Stay tuned for that

After NewsBusted's launch, we're going to start work on a program of the "worst of the week."

"News Bust of the week" would be even better

and at the end they could say "so and so you're Busted!" and the clip could crackle like broken glass

Dee, at the rate the dems

Dee, at the rate the dems are going, it may be News Bust of the hour.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

hey bass - saw you subscribed too!

I'm sagacioussue. Do you know who stix1972 is?

Dee, no I dont know who

Dee, no I dont know who stix1972 is. Nor Mongo. Makes ya wonder dont it? Maybe they will fess up.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

here's what you do...

your just going for an SNL news for conservatives really...

which could expand to an SNL for conservatives...

which could expand to a Comdey Central for conservatives...

repeat indefinitely...

eventually you get "Conservativewood" just outside of Branson...

and on it goes...

Yeah, the fox 1/2 hour

Yeah, the fox 1/2 hour comedy hour was a real big hit...

Not bad. Some funny ones

Not bad. Some funny ones there! But the Garafalo joke... that wasn't funny... it was TRUE!

WHAT HAPPENED

...to the navigation options at the bottom of each page?

I'd go with some actual news

I'd go with some actual news clips and comment on them and I might add a "Special Commentary" by renowned mid east correspondent Osama Bin Laden who could sign off in a way similiar to Olbermann.

Added video

Great first vid guys!  Some here are critical, but I know how hard it is to shoot "funny", and it was every bit as good as bits from Fox's "1/2 Hour News Hour", and they've had several half-hour episodes to work out the kinks.  Keep it up!  I'll always watch conservative humor.

Nice format change as well.

NewsBusted

Mark Steyn would Kick A** as the host/presenter for something like this. His humor , and wit are legendary and would be a great match for this style of forum.

good stuff

Great start to a new NewsBusters feature. Some funny, some not so, but keep trying! Would be great to see some guest jokesters. Keep up the good work with the site.

Keep the ILLEGALS out, join NumbersUSA to send free faxes to your reps. Also try congress.org.

Matthew - suggestion for Youtube

If I were you guys I would disable comments there and instead lead people to newsbusters to comment. You will probably get spammed by a bunch of liberals there. You can link to your website in your profile.

Also - If you could get the rights - I think the music for Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" would be awsome for it. At least he's a conservative so maybe it wouldn't be hard.

Newsbusted

O-k first try.

Seinfeld and Cheers had rough starts, but they turned out to be classics in their category.

Yeah Newsbusted rocks!

No naysaying just KICK's - keep it constructive kids!

Lame

The Daily Show has NOTHING to fear.

Daily Show has nothing to fear it's their audience who does

those like you who feel compelled to come here and criticize something that isn't even aimed at you. You people are so afraid of the tiniest bit of competition to the point of comparing a web cast to a Television Show. You need to grow a pair. If your ideas are right you shouldn't be afraid to have them challenged.

Challenge all you

Challenge all you like but it's still not funny.

Challenge? Was I Challenging?

Sorry - I didn't realize. What I said was so easy, logical and straight forward and you still couldn't address it. I'd hate to see what happened if I actually tried to battle you. What would I get next Na na boo boo?

It's not that hard to understand Rottenham - the points are 1. It doesn't matter if you think it's funny because it's not aimed at you and 2. there is no comparison to the Daily show because this is a webcast and 3. you are shaking in your boots because you want both hands tied and can't even handle one.

To summarize for more clarity. The Daily show has nothing to worry about, but it's viewers do.

1. It doesn't matter if

1. It doesn't matter if you think it's funny because it's not aimed at you...

I thought it was aimed at the general public which is why they put it on YouTube.  If it's only aimed at conservatives, why put it on a general interest site like YouTube?

2. there is no comparison to the Daily show because this is a webcast...

The Daily Show would still be funny even if it were a webcast.  The production values don't affect the quality of the writing.  Conservatives hate Janeane Garofalo and Whoopi Goldberg.  Ha ha, really funny.

3. you are shaking in your boots because you want both hands tied and can't even handle one.

Why should I shake in my boots over a webcast that you admit isn't aimed at the general public?  99.999999% of the viewing public will never see it and, if they did, wouldn't find it funny.  What do you think is so threatening about that?  If anything, it's a threat to conservatives.  It just makes them look even lamer than the Daily Show's excellent writing and delivery already does.

What kind of Vacuum are you living in?

1.) Everything on Youtube is General interest? Give me a break. I can guarantee you if you have an account that our favorites look nothing alike. Is the porn General interest?

2.) Production values do matter and make a difference on what writers you can hire

3.) I don't know you tell me why. Why is that you hung around here for two weeks and then felt compelled to make a snide comment on the webcast? If it's so bad and doomed, why are you wasting your time commenting?

2.) Production values do

2.) Production values do matter and make a difference on what writers you can hire

So you admit it's poorly written and not funny.

Why is that you hung around here for two weeks and then felt compelled to make a snide comment on the webcast?

You gotta start somewhere.

If it's so bad and doomed, why are you wasting your time commenting?

It's my time; I'll waste it how I like.

Rottenham- you are so thick

Rottenham- you are so thick in the head. I didn't admit anything, but in your paranoid world if it makes you feel good to think that - go ahead. I don't deny that the Daily Show is better, in fact that is my whole point. The Daily Show is in a different class and you are so paranoid that you are worried about a webcast competing with it.

Of course you have to start somewhere but where you start says something about you. In this case it says you are paranoid.

Your last line sounds a lot like na na boo boo to me. I've got your number rotten.

The Daily show has

The Daily show has nothing to worry about, but it's viewers do.

What, exactly, need they worry about again?

again - you tell me. I have no idea why liberals are so afraid

You are afraid of free speech and having your ideas challenged. I'm not saying the viewers should worry, just that they do. Like you, you are a prime example.

I'm worried about a lot of

I'm worried about a lot of things but this isn't one of them.  I don't see how taking cheap shots at Janeane Garofalo or Whoopi Goldberg challenges any ideas.  Garofalo's never been elected to any public office.  She has no power.  It just makes conservatives look mean, petty and unfunny.

No matter how "cheap" a

No matter how "cheap" a shot you take at Jeneane, you cant get as low as she is. As far as public office is concerned, News Buster has never been elected to public office either. Whats that got to do with it, anyway?

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

RottenHam, go pork yourself.

"I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!”- Rick Roberts

You are worried. You find

You are worried. You find it so frightening that anyone can have a different point of view or different tastes. How do all the Cheap Shots at Bush or Republicans challenge and ideas? I'm touched by your concern for how we come accross, but you would do better to worry about your own forest because it's burning out of control in the mean and pettiness category. Just look at how mean and petty you are being.

The daily show makes fun of Ann Coulter, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere and many other people with no so called power. Why don't they look mean and petty to you? Get off your hypocritical paranoid high horse and try and think of something meaningful to say if you are going to hang around here

So, Castro; Bin Laden; and a leprechaun walk into a bar...

Nice try, but keep working on it.

I don't think the "Tonite Show" monolog format works well with this subject matter.

Both the live audience and the host's movements back and forth are a distraction on the YouTube format. Not a problem for real TV, but webcast is an imperfect medium with crowd sounds sounding more like clatter than laughter (and I have broadband).

One of the problems with YouTube imbedded media is that it runs well on YouTube's server hosted pages, but poorly on non-YouTube hosted pages. This problem can also be seen with YouTube imbedded media on MySpace pages. I am not sure why this is the case, but I am sure that YouTube spent a lot of time tuning their pages to run video cleanly.

If you go back and review some of the old NET/America's Voice TV programs, I am sure you will find some workable ideas on format.

Fox's The Beltway Boys is also a good format for this type of show.

But I did like the Capital Dome graphic and the intro.

Excelsior!

Do they make one with a 36" width?

I have a 24" at work.

Velly nice.

Blonde,

If NB gets any, ahh, wider, I'm going to have to have a 48" one.

-And before you guys start slamming me with angry PMs, I am NOT making fun of fat-assed Americans. Well, not today, anyway.

'Sides, Neal Boortz does a fine job of that all by hizzself. :-)

Dave, I like it

I think it all rocks....I love the list of blogs (easy to navigate to the good ones w/o opening another session)....the redone header with "HOME" back on it.

Of course, I go from my laptop screen (which is defaulted to my 24" settings....so the laptop screen has tiny icons, tiny print, etc.) to my nice 19" flatscreen here, to the monster at work on the docking station.

It's all cool.

Comedy is in the eye of

Comedy is in the eye of the beholder.  And, there are different kinds of comedy.  I think this is a very good first effort.  Some of the jokes were quite funny, and the one about the girl fight between Edwards and Ann Coulter made me laugh out loud.  I've seen the monologues of Leno and Letterman, and while theirs is slicker, this is just as funny as those two.
