Here at NewsBusters, we try to stay on the cutting edge of both media and technology, which is why I'm pleased to announce the addition of “NewsBusted,” a comedy show we're releasing today. You can watch the video now over on the top right of this page.
The idea for the show is really quite simple. Politics is absurd, so is the news. Why not have some laughs from it all?
“NewsBusted” will air twice weekly and be available on every NB page as well as on YouTube. We also are taking joke submissions from readers. If we like your joke, we'll pay you $50 and use it in a future show. Send jokes along with name, email, and phone number to rightstuffcomedy@yahoo.com.
PS: If you are trying to get into the NB live chat, click the "chats" link at the top of this page.

September 12, 2007 - 11:25 ET by River CityDee:
I've been getting that spyware problem on Newbusters for the last couple months. Not just on this page. Most of the time the two applications I run block it but once in a while it breaks through. Twice my software has actually shut IE all the way down in defense. I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Plus.

September 12, 2007 - 15:47 ET by River CityCT:
The pop-up blocker is on. When it breaks through it isn't a pop-up. It appears as a web page. It takes over the Newsbusters page and wipes everything out. I have to close IE. Like I said before. It has only broken through twice. Most of the time my software blocks it.

September 12, 2007 - 16:18 ET by RosI really like this website and the new layout.....but I didnt laugh once during the video.
I think a couple of the jokes had the potential to be funny, but the guy you have trying to make them funny, just isnt funny.
If this is going to work your going to need a pro to not only put jokes together properly but a pro to present the jokes properly.

September 12, 2007 - 12:08 ET by seejayGreat first vid guys! Some here are critical, but I know how hard it is to shoot "funny", and it was every bit as good as bits from Fox's "1/2 Hour News Hour", and they've had several half-hour episodes to work out the kinks. Keep it up! I'll always watch conservative humor.
Nice format change as well.

September 12, 2007 - 14:21 ET by RottenHamThe Daily Show has NOTHING to fear.
Daily Show has nothing to fear it's their audience who does
September 12, 2007 - 14:47 ET by Dee Bunkthose like you who feel compelled to come here and criticize something that isn't even aimed at you. You people are so afraid of the tiniest bit of competition to the point of comparing a web cast to a Television Show. You need to grow a pair. If your ideas are right you shouldn't be afraid to have them challenged.
Challenge all you
September 12, 2007 - 15:24 ET by RottenHamChallenge all you like but it's still not funny.
Challenge? Was I Challenging?
September 12, 2007 - 15:36 ET by Dee BunkSorry - I didn't realize. What I said was so easy, logical and straight forward and you still couldn't address it. I'd hate to see what happened if I actually tried to battle you. What would I get next Na na boo boo?
It's not that hard to understand Rottenham - the points are 1. It doesn't matter if you think it's funny because it's not aimed at you and 2. there is no comparison to the Daily show because this is a webcast and 3. you are shaking in your boots because you want both hands tied and can't even handle one.
To summarize for more clarity. The Daily show has nothing to worry about, but it's viewers do.
1. It doesn't matter if
September 12, 2007 - 15:44 ET by RottenHamI thought it was aimed at the general public which is why they put it on YouTube. If it's only aimed at conservatives, why put it on a general interest site like YouTube?
The Daily Show would still be funny even if it were a webcast. The production values don't affect the quality of the writing. Conservatives hate Janeane Garofalo and Whoopi Goldberg. Ha ha, really funny.
Why should I shake in my boots over a webcast that you admit isn't aimed at the general public? 99.999999% of the viewing public will never see it and, if they did, wouldn't find it funny. What do you think is so threatening about that? If anything, it's a threat to conservatives. It just makes them look even lamer than the Daily Show's excellent writing and delivery already does.
What kind of Vacuum are you living in?
September 12, 2007 - 16:14 ET by Dee Bunk1.) Everything on Youtube is General interest? Give me a break. I can guarantee you if you have an account that our favorites look nothing alike. Is the porn General interest?
2.) Production values do matter and make a difference on what writers you can hire
3.) I don't know you tell me why. Why is that you hung around here for two weeks and then felt compelled to make a snide comment on the webcast? If it's so bad and doomed, why are you wasting your time commenting?
2.) Production values do
September 12, 2007 - 16:32 ET by RottenHamSo you admit it's poorly written and not funny.
You gotta start somewhere.
It's my time; I'll waste it how I like.
Rottenham- you are so thick
September 13, 2007 - 09:46 ET by Dee BunkRottenham- you are so thick in the head. I didn't admit anything, but in your paranoid world if it makes you feel good to think that - go ahead. I don't deny that the Daily Show is better, in fact that is my whole point. The Daily Show is in a different class and you are so paranoid that you are worried about a webcast competing with it.
Of course you have to start somewhere but where you start says something about you. In this case it says you are paranoid.
Your last line sounds a lot like na na boo boo to me. I've got your number rotten.
The Daily show has

September 12, 2007 - 16:17 ET by Dee BunkYou are afraid of free speech and having your ideas challenged. I'm not saying the viewers should worry, just that they do. Like you, you are a prime example.

September 12, 2007 - 16:35 ET by RottenHamI'm worried about a lot of things but this isn't one of them. I don't see how taking cheap shots at Janeane Garofalo or Whoopi Goldberg challenges any ideas. Garofalo's never been elected to any public office. She has no power. It just makes conservatives look mean, petty and unfunny.

September 12, 2007 - 17:26 ET by bassndudeNo matter how "cheap" a shot you take at Jeneane, you cant get as low as she is. As far as public office is concerned, News Buster has never been elected to public office either. Whats that got to do with it, anyway?

September 13, 2007 - 10:00 ET by Dee BunkYou are worried. You find it so frightening that anyone can have a different point of view or different tastes. How do all the Cheap Shots at Bush or Republicans challenge and ideas? I'm touched by your concern for how we come accross, but you would do better to worry about your own forest because it's burning out of control in the mean and pettiness category. Just look at how mean and petty you are being.
The daily show makes fun of Ann Coulter, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere and many other people with no so called power. Why don't they look mean and petty to you? Get off your hypocritical paranoid high horse and try and think of something meaningful to say if you are going to hang around here
So, Castro; Bin Laden; and a leprechaun walk into a bar...
September 12, 2007 - 17:52 ET by BritcomNice try, but keep working on it.
I don't think the "Tonite Show" monolog format works well with this subject matter.
Both the live audience and the host's movements back and forth are a distraction on the YouTube format. Not a problem for real TV, but webcast is an imperfect medium with crowd sounds sounding more like clatter than laughter (and I have broadband).
One of the problems with YouTube imbedded media is that it runs well on YouTube's server hosted pages, but poorly on non-YouTube hosted pages. This problem can also be seen with YouTube imbedded media on MySpace pages. I am not sure why this is the case, but I am sure that YouTube spent a lot of time tuning their pages to run video cleanly.
If you go back and review some of the old NET/America's Voice TV programs, I am sure you will find some workable ideas on format.
Fox's The Beltway Boys is also a good format for this type of show.
But I did like the Capital Dome graphic and the intro.
Excelsior!

Some of the jokes were quite funny, and the one about the girl fight between Edwards and Ann Coulter made me laugh out loud. I've seen the monologues of Leno and Letterman, and while theirs is slicker, this is just as funny as those two.
