CBS's Rose: Have GOP Leaders 'Gone Far Enough in Condemning' Rush?
On Monday's CBS This Morning, Charlie Rose hinted that Republicans needed to go further in decrying Rush Limbaugh's slam of radical feminist and law student Sandra Fluke. Rose asked Senator John McCain, "Are you satisfied that those Republican officials have gone far enough in condemning these statements?" McCain replied, "Oh, I'll leave that up to pundits like you, Charlie" [audio available here; video below the jump].
The morning newscast also highlighted how "seven companies have pulled commercials from Limbaugh's nationally syndicated show. Online data company Carbonite said the on-air attack crossed the line....Limbaugh had some defenders, but they were drowned out by those protests on the left, and critics on the right."
The anchor raised the controversy over Limbaugh's remark during the second half of his interview of McCain. He first asked the former Republican presidential candidate, "One question about Rush Limbaugh, who is, obviously, a prominent radio personality. Does he have some power within the Republican Party?"
The Arizona senator answered, in part, that "those statements were unacceptable in every way and should be condemned by everyone, no matter what their political leanings are." Rose followed up by asking his "condemning" question concerning the Republican leadership.
Near the end of the segment, the CBS journalist (whom McCain interestingly labeled a "pundit") raised the issue of the upcoming HBO feature about the 2008 presidential election. The Republican didn't mince words in his answer about "Game Change":
ROSE: Senator McCain, there's also a movie that's- this week. (McCain laughs) You're not going to look at it. Why are you not going to see a movie about your campaign?
MCCAIN: Because it's based on a book that is full of unattributed quotes- things that are- absolutely never happened- and if it's based on that book, which I was briefed on, then, of course, it can't be accurate.
Correspondent Jan Crawford filed a report on the current GOP presidential contenders' response to the Limbaugh controversy following the McCain interview. Co-anchor Erica Hill noted in her introduction that "some of Limbaugh's sponsors are dropping his show, and the Republican presidential candidates are now being drawn into the controversy." During her report, Crawford spotlighted how "Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney tried to distance themselves from the controversy," and that Ron Paul "questioned Limbaugh's apology." She also played a clip of Newt Gingrich attacking the media for making the story the "great national crisis of this week."
The transcript of the relevant portion of Charlie Rose's interview on Monday's CBS This Morning, starting at the 13 minutes into the 7 am Eastern hour mark; along with the report from Jan Crawford, which immediately followed, is available at MRC.org.

Rose has been a left wing nut as long as I have ever heard of him. He wouldn't change what mind he has even when the facts prove the opposite. You can't cure stupid.
When

did we turn into a nation who calls upon it's politicians (such a bunch of moral authorities they are) to condemn private citizens? Yes, Rush is in the public eye, however, he is still a private citizen and this really troubles me, the governmental piling on. As troubling, is our gov't representatives not telling these talking heads to stfu, and that they/we have more critical concerns in our every day lives than whether or not an over the hill coed has her partying subsidized. And, who writes what on the bathroom wall about her.
It's worse than that, bobsmom

The politicians are demanding their leadership condemn private citizens (Rush) as well....that bastion of liberal buffoonery, Elijah Cummings, demanded that Darryl Issa “strongly condemn” Limbaugh’s statements.
Fortunately, Rep. Issa politely told him to take a hike. The whole tawdry story is here.
Liberals love to play the victim and whine like mad. I'm just sorry Rush wasn't able to turn this around on him like he did the last time, when Harry Reid got stupid about Rush.

Looks like they are overplaying their hand quicker than I thought. Rush will recover from this setback, and recover quite quickly.
Rush has said a few times on his show, "If you are going to kill the king, you better succeed". Some of these lefties are going to find out what that means very soon.

Did Rose ask the same of President Obama of Bill Maher or return the 1 million dolars? Sgt Schutlz, Obie. You get my drift...double standards abound.

Every Republican should've told these clowns "I'm not responsible for what Limbaugh says. He doesn't speak for our party. Go ask his employer."
But if you play their game once, you'll be playing it again frequently.
I haven't heard the Dems condemn Media Matters or Daily Kos. If they do, it's never risen to a 100-hour tirade.

Which is why I wish John McCain would shut up and sing or something.

Actually, we need a defense against the tendency of advertisers to pull their annoying messages when the left starts an email campaign. I have often wondered why the lefties can bring this to bear and there is no corresponding effort from the right. Is it a matter of seed money from Soros and his ilk? Perhaps, like the occupiers, they have more time on their hands. I would like to picket GE for all the influence bought from Obama, campaign against the stations that carry their goody-goody crap about GE being such a wonderful neighbor. Could we demand the FCC apply a measure of equality in such a campaign? How about some commercials showing GE-Immelt's left hand in our Treasury's vault while his right is making a deposit in Obama's pocket and leaving our President broadly smiling as he explains how GE will save the United States by exporting technology to Red China. The Tea Party might be a vehicle for campaigns against companies supporting lefty bias and programs that are no more than in-kind contributions to elect democrat candidates, but I wonder if the MSM have demonized and defined the movement so it is no longer an agent for real change?

"I have often wondered why the lefties can bring this to bear and there is no corresponding effort from the right."
I have wondered the same. Theoretically we out number them 2 to 1 (self identified conservatives vs liberals) Yet, the day after some outrageous abusive/over-the-line comment by a liberal commentator, you turn on the TV and all sorts of prominent advertisers like MacDonald,Walmart, Johnson and Johnson's are still advertising. Companies that under pressure refuse to even advertise on Fox, show up on Current TV bankrolling Keith Olberman's show.
The effort to drive conservative opinion off TV and radio gained a big boost this week. I think the jury is still out whether they will succeed.
BECAUSE THERE IS LITTLE OR NO PUSH-BACK FROM OUR SIDE!
Exactly. One relevant point

Exactly. One relevant point made above is that they do have more time on their hands. The Right has jobs, and kids, in short, real life obligations. Left wing politics is the Left's religion, family and occupation. Simply put, we need to organize better. Maybe even study their efforts. They have the MSM in the bag, they ARE the MSM.
Gregory, Matthews, Lauer, basically all of them, are going for broke. At this point they can't turn back. They need to hammer home their message, they can't afford to allow any balance of they will be exposed.
We need to organize. Maybe start locally, like start an email list of just your friends and like-minded, keep it anonymous (bcc, a list-serve,etc), and ask them to forward on to their friends. It can grow and spread quickly like that. In the end the Right can someday make our own media, as we are shut out. I GUARANTEE YOU that MANY moderates will take to it if you talk about things they all notice, such as media bias in terms of race, gender, etc.
Action not words.

when are you going to ask Democrat lawmakers to condemn liberals in media who trash conservatives???????? I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting on that one. Conservatives need to wake up and fight back. They truly do want to drive conservative radio and TV off the air.
