Achtung! Andrew Sullivan Goes Nuclear; Hints Palin = Hitler

By Matthew Balan | May 27, 2011 | 15:54

Matthew Balan's picture

Andrew Sullivan's vendetta against Sarah Palin reached a new milestone on Friday after he insinuated that the former Alaska governor was somehow akin to Adolf Hitler. Sullivan referenced Leni Riefenstahl's infamous pro-Nazi movie after quoting a former Palin spokeswoman on what he labeled "the upcoming propaganda movie, 'Triumph Of The Will' 'The Undefeated.'"

The writer, who is a top purveyor of the "Trig Truther" theory about the Republican's youngest son, made the latest attack on his blog on The Daily Beast as part of a "quote for the day" item. Sullivan reproduced Meg Stapleton's laudatory words about the Palin documentary, which will soon be released in Iowa, and then added his beyond snarky one-liner:

image of anti-Tea Party protester, taken from Big Journalism blog: http://bigjournalism.com/sright/2010/09/20/suddenly-offensive-nazi-signs-at-protests-arent-big-news-if-the-target-is-the-right-the-msm-gives-them-a-pass/palinnaziphoto/"If someone gives it a chance and watches it, watches the film, I think they will be surprised at the caricature that’s been drawn and the contrast to reality. I just think every aspect of it is so powerful, you cannot walk away from this film looking at Sarah Palin the same way. You just can’t," - Meg Stapleton, on the upcoming propaganda movie, "Triumph Of The Will" "The Undefeated."

Only months earlier, during a November 7, 2010 interview with BBC Radio 4, the blogger claimed that "Sarah Palin represents an America this is absolutely, definitionally white, that's very much rural America." Sullivan thus leapfrogs over the white supremacist-hinting label/reference as an attack against the former vice presidential candidate, and goes straight to smearing her as a fascist.

Wow, that's quick. Of course, he loved Obama's acceptance speech at the football stadium in Denver with all the columns.

Those styrofoam greek columns

Submitted by jpwcpa on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 5:09pm.

I hope Team Obama saved those columns somewhere. They can be broken up into small pieces and used very effectively as packing material. President O'Bonehead will need a lot of packing material in January 2013. What ever is left over can be sent to Wasilla.

Vote Palin 2012!

Submitted by vote24 on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 4:32pm.

Yes we should always take the high road when possible, unless it leads to our own destruction. We need a conservative force willing to really go after the fraud and lies of the leftard media. Sooner or sooner, one of these lefties will get the smackdown that they are begging for. And it's about time. Why exactly are we fighting with one hand tied behind our back? To avoid offending the enemy? Where are the class action law suits, the indictments, the FCC. I don't want to fight that way, but the left is eating our lunch in the media, and the only way I see to fight back is with the rules THEY have set up and are using against us. We won't have to fight that way forever, but drastic measures are needed now, before the 2012 election to level the playing field if not tilt it in a conservative direction for a change. The education system and university system exists currently for one reason only, to manufacture democrat voters. Is there not a class action law suit in there somewhere for all the parents who sent their conservative children off to school only to be greeted back by a little communist with no real education. False advertising, fraud, something. It is not correct, legally in my opinion.

excellent post.

Why, indeed, are we not fighting fire with fire?

Your first sentence - outstanding!

I think too many conservatives, unfortunately, believe only in  the first eight words.

Personally, I am not happy with the idea of being a martyr; on either the steps of political correctness, or at the feet of a liberal who will laugh, and then spit on my body because I acted the fool.

Andy: to see racial prejudice, look in a mirror

Submitted by neutron on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 5:12pm.

I recently took an long-term assignment in a small town in southern Georgia. It was eye-opening. Especially when a young Black engineer told me that my northern liberal friends were the ones who are prejudiced and racist.

I wrote my friends at HillBuzz about my experience, and it turned into them asking me to become a contributor. Here is my inaugural "journalist" post:

Liberals: Looking for Racism? Look in the Mirror

http://hillbuzz.org/2011/05/26/liberals-looking-for-racism-look-in-the-m...

It's about the prejudice and racism that is perfectly displayed by old Andy's line: "Sarah Palin represents an America this is absolutely, definitionally white, that's very much rural America."

Andrew and his ilk are the problem, not southern whites. (Be sure to read the comments to get the whole story!)

mostlym,

With all the state budget turmoil in Sac, things are getting really nasty there. As an ex-Sacramentan, I still read some of the comments sections in The Bee on-line and it looks like the fight between state and private workers and liberals and conservatives is approaching a civil war. If words were weapons, Sacramento would be lying in ruins.

Sentry,

Sometimes I miss Sacramento (and will always consider it my home town), but when I read what's happening there and in the state, that wistful feeling tends to go away rapidly. They have horrific problems of their own making and the liberals who just keep getting elected and re-elected are stuck in the "damn the torpedoes full spending ahead" mind-set. With their faith in liberalism and political correctness unshaken, I don't see how CA will not just get worse.

I'm just an out of state transplant who has been here since 2005. I really like the weather, the location and my little suburb. In the short time I have been here things have changed dramatically. The housing bubble burst and hit the area very hard.

Being a conservative AND a union member (not by choice), I find myself in an odd position. I see how much public employees cost the state and local governments but at the same time I know how hard I personally work for my pay check. Every time my union has held a vote to make concessions, I voted for them and it still didn't save my job. I was rehired due to federal grant money but I am in the same position again. We'll see what happens. Many sacred cows need to go to slaughter to fix the problems.

Sentry,

Submitted by Chris Norman on Sat, 05/28/2011 - 9:34am.

From living there so many years I observed that because the state government has always just gotten bigger, many state workers there (and elsewhere) view themselves as a protected class. Now, with budget cuts looming (or not) they view themselves a victims of unfair and mean taxpayers who are beginning to resent supporting the state workers (usually) increasing paychecks, pension plans, and benefits - things that private workers decreasingly get. Sooner or later, it's all going to explode or implode

Seems The Left Wants To Retake The Hitler Comparisons...

Submitted by TheReal7Sticks on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 11:53pm.

Not really that surprised. After all, who was it that always compared President Bush to Hitler? (Which, by the way, I apologize for over and over until the day I die.) I guess the left was becoming a little jealous of the right's use of that old cliched mantra against President Obama. It never ceases to amaze me how low either the left or the right will go in attacking the President of the United States. Then again, it no longer amazes me since they've gone as far as they can go and then some.

Achtung! Andrew Sullivan goes Whiter than White

Submitted by Avitar on Sat, 05/28/2011 - 2:38am.

You wouldn't know that Hitler was a Progressive if Andrew Sullivan could keep it from you. I hope that there aren't any Republicans who are still impressed by this.

They did it to Phil Gram in 1995 to steer Republicans away from Phil Gram and to Bob Dole saying that Professor of Economics Gram was an associate of the Aryan Nation. Kool-Aid drinking Democrats would ask "How do I know that is wrong? How do I know that NBC was full of it and Phil Gram had nothing to do with the Aryan Nation? Wendy Gram, the Senator's wife was a Korean War Orphan. Just as Todd Palin is part Indian In both cases the marriages are mixed race marriages by Progressive standards.

The cynical Democrat Party political professionals are clearly trying to get the nomination steered away from Sarah Palin and to Mitt Romney.
