CBS Highlights Sen. Rockefeller's Slam of Oil Company CEO as 'Out of Touch'

On Friday's Early Show, CBS's Jeff Glor played up West Virginia Democrat Jay Rockefeller's browbeating of an oil company executive during a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee. The Senator interrupted Chevron Corporation CEO John Watson with a sarcastic reply: "Lovely statement, but do you understand how out of touch that is?"

Glor first noted during his news brief 12 minutes into that 7 am Eastern hour that "rising energy costs are likely to be a key issue in next year's election. So on Capitol Hill yesterday, leaders of the five largest private oil companies were grilled by Senate Democrats, who want to repeal the tax breaks that oil companies get." He then played a clip of Watson's testimony right as he was cut off by the liberal politician:

WATSON: I don't think the American people want shared sacrifice. I think they want shared prosperity, and what we have to offer, Senator-

ROCKEFELLER: Oh, just no- lovely statement, but do you understand how out of touch that is?

GLOR: The oil executives argue that raising their taxes could cost jobs, and they say lead to even higher gas prices.

One wonders if CBS caught on to the irony of a senator with Rockefeller as his last name acting like a populist firebrand towards the CEO of Chevron, a company which was originally known as Standard Oil Company (California).

The Dems, being Marxists,

Submitted by robert108 on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 5:48pm.

The Dems, being Marxists, regard shared prosperity as "out of touch", which is why we are in the economic mess we are in today, with no prospect of improvement.

Where do they get these CEO's anyway?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 5:49pm.

I never cease to be amazed that these so called "powerful" executives in industry sit there and let some dipstick senator beat them like a rented mule.  Do these guys have ANY self respect and pride?

Just once I'd like to see one of them act like they had cojones and call bull shiite on these pompous a$$holes in Washington who couldn't made a dime without the clout of a government job if their lives depended on it.

Just get up and walk out and let the plicks charge you with contempt, because that is what they are showing you; contempt!

Nobody in this county has to take that kind of crap from their elected servants.  At least they didn't used to have to.  We pay them way too much and don't get shiite in return.  Did something change along the way that says we have to bow down to these jack wagons?

Come on CEO's. Act like a conservative woman, and man up!

You are so right. Wouldn't you just love to see one of those oil execs tell some Senator or Rep. that they fire people smarter than them every day and that the U.S govt. makes more money off a gallon of gas than anybody....? I would love to see someone tell a Senator "Well at least we didn't waste a trillion dollars lately or buy auto companies that cannot turn a profit".

He of all people, should know

Submitted by rbosque on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 6:17pm.

He of all people, should know that it is the gov't that makes more from a gallon of gas than the oil companies. They have little control over the price. Rockefellor is a liar and a bastard.

The irony

Submitted by Radical1979 on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 6:27pm.

Imagine a Rockefeller telling someone else they are out of touch with the American people.

I wonder how many people Rockefeller employs with a good living? And how much employment those people provide by buying goods? Answer: A hell of a lot less than the oil companies.

Shared sacrifice? We know what the libs want working people to sacrifice, i.e. all their income, but what do they want the non-working beneficiaries of government handouts to sacrifice??
