CNN's Johns Gushes Over 'Incredible,' 'Riveting' Michael Moore Speech

CNN's Joe Johns hyped a recent Michael Moore speech on Monday's Newsroom as "incredible" and "riveting." Johns highlighted a clip from the left-wing film director, who spoke at a pro-union rally in Madison, Wisconsin, where he claimed that "America is not broke...The country is awash in wealth and cash. It's just that it's not in your hands! It has been transferred, in the greatest heist in history, from the workers...to the banks and the portfolios of the uber-rich."

Anchor Brooke Baldwin brought on the correspondent for the regular "Political Pop" segment 40 minutes into the 4 pm Eastern hour, and asked about Moore's March 5, 2011 address in Madison. Johns immediately gushed over the director's words:

BALDWIN: What was he up to in Madison?

JOE JOHNS: Yeah. Well, it was a speech and it was really pretty incredible. Have you seen it by the way?

[Video embedded below the page break]

BALDWIN: Yeah. I have not seen it. I just read about it.

JOHNS: Yeah. I mean, it was riveting, whether you're a supporter or a critic or somewhere in between, and it's really gotten enormous buzz on the Internet.

The CNN journalist then played a clip from Moore's speech, where he was unsurprisingly reading off left-wing talking points:

MOORE: That's right, neither is Wisconsin. (crowd cheers) America is not broke. Contrary to what those in power would like you to believe, so that you'll give up your pension, cut your wages, and settle for the life your great grandparents had, America is not broke (crowd cheers), not by a long shot. The country is awash in wealth and cash. It's just that it's not in your hands! (crowd cheers) It has been transferred, in the greatest heist in history, from the workers and consumers to the banks and the portfolios of the uber-rich. (crowd cheers)

Johns then explained that "this was sort of a Michael Moore manifesto, you know, very big audience, well received by a supporting crowd.....he's just sort of added his voice to those on the left who say Wisconsin's the start of something really big and, you know, one of the lines that's been quoted a lot from him there is that Wisconsin has aroused a sleeping giant, so we'll see."

Speaking of left-leaning talking points, the CNN correspondent questioned the compromise between the Obama administration and congressional Republicans to extend the current tax rates during a December 5, 2010 "Political Pop" segment: "How is it that the Republicans and the White House agree that what we need most is billions of dollars more in government spending?"

Well that ' RIVETING '

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 2:31pm.

Well that ' RIVETING ' exchange pretty much sums up the reason why CNN is perpetually in fifth place in the three way political cable network ratings war.

Liberals ... we can't live with them, they couldn't survive without us ...

Yes Mr. Moore

Submitted by libfail on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 2:32pm.

How did you get so wealthy? How come people have to spend money to watch your movies if you really cared so much about the working man? How much of the income made off these films and books have you donated back?

An anti-union, uber-rich

Submitted by Reaver on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 2:37pm.

An anti-union, uber-rich liberal telling union protesters that the anti-union uber-rich have stolen all their money. And the crowd cheers, yea that sure is pretty incredible Joe.

Who, exactly,

Submitted by UpNorth on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 2:53pm.

is/was being asked to "give up your pensions"? Never mind, some people shouldn't have to actually pay for their own pension, it should just be given to them, much like a bridge card(food stamp card).
To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

Just another wealthy blowhard

Submitted by Model850 on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 2:55pm.

Michael Moore is just one more rich blowhard living the sweet life with his fat bank account, railing against the evil "rich," forever oblivious to the irony of his stupidity. As libfail noted above, I've never heard of MM offering free admission to his films, or mailing out free DVD copies to anyone who wanted one, putting the lie to his wealth redistributionist ideals. Putz.

So, with the common knowledge

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 3:07pm.

So, with the common knowledge that the corpulent psuedo-commie Michael Moron IS a total phony - what does that say about the 'big audience and supporting crowd' that was cheering him on??? Obviously, we're dealing with a bunch of dummies here..........the bland leading the bland.

Class Warfare

Submitted by Radical1979 on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 10:52pm.

The liberals are leading us down the road to class warfare, and I mean real war. What everyone fails to realize that there is usually someone less well off than you are. So that as much as entitled as these people may feel to take the money of the "uber rich", there are poorer non-working people who will feel just as entitled to take the money and property of these union people. Once the revolution starts, the middle class will be destroyed by the entitlement class.

Incredible? He must have meant "imbecilic". Moore's little tirade did nothing but demonstrate his own complete lack of economic knowledge. Anyone who thought it was an impressive speech must be even more economically ignorant than Moore.

He's right, it was incredible....

Incredible meaning difficult to believe. It is hard to believe that someone, in this day of age. could have such out-of-date 19th century ideas, and that his films are given wide distribution rights, and the the otherr documnetarians at an awards ceremony supported him. What is this, the return of Leni Reifenstahl?
