Jack Cafferty All But Endorses Global One-Child Policy to Fight Climate Change

Jack Cafferty, CNN Commentator | NewsBusters.orgCNN’s Jack Cafferty all but endorsed a global version of China’s oppressive one-child policy on Friday’s Situation Room. He repeated the argument of Canadian journalist Diane Francis, that population control is the only way to fight global warming, and mentioned the opposition of “fundamentalist leaders” and others only in passing. All but one of the viewer e-mails that Cafferty read endorsed the idea.

The CNN commentator raised the population control issue eight minutes into the 4 pm Eastern hour during one of his “Cafferty File” segments. Though he didn’t give much of a hint as to his stance on the proposal at first, Cafferty made it much more clear after he read his “Question of the Hour:”

Story Continues Below Ad ↓
CAFFERTY: While world leaders meet to talk about combating climate change in Copenhagen, some people say that population control is, at the end of the day, the only real way to fight it. The Chinese instituted a policy limiting the number of children each family can have thirty years ago, and they claim that since that time, they have prevented 400 million births and saved carbon emissions to the tune of 18 million tons a year. And it’s not just the Chinese: there’s a piece in the Canadian newspaper ‘The Financial Post’ suggesting the real ‘inconvenient truth’ is that humans are overpopulating the world. It suggests every nation should adopt China’s one-child policy, because if we don’t control the Earth’s population, we will eventually destroy or run out of everything, from other species to vegetation, resources, the atmosphere, oceans, water supply- and it doesn’t matter whether the globe heats up or doesn’t. The piece points out that despite China’s dirty coal plants, it is a world leader in creating policy to combat the destruction of the environment.

One study shows- this is interesting- that if from now on, starting today, every woman had only one child - the world’s population would actually decline from six and a half billion now to five and a half billion by 2050. But if we do nothing, the population could soar to an unsustainable nine billion people during that same time. Needless to say, there are lot of folks who disagree vehemently with the idea of population control- fundamentalist leaders, people who oppose birth control, and politicians from many of the emerging economies.

But nevertheless, that’s our question: should mandatory population control become a part of the fight against global warming? Go to CNN.com/CaffertyFile, post a comment on my blog.

There’s too many people, especially in New York. (laughs) There are!

WOLF BLITZER: (laughs) It’s a provocative question.

CAFFERTY: It is a provocative question.

BLITZER: It’s a serious subject, too.

CAFFERTY: Oh, it is a very serious-

BLITZER: Yeah.

CAFFERTY: I mean, from six and a half billion down to five and a half by 2050, and if we do nothing, it will go up to nine. And at some point, there’s not going to be enough stuff for everybody.

BLITZER: At some point.

CAFFERTY: Yeah.

BLITZER: You and I will be long gone by then. (laughs)

CAFFERTY: Oh, yeah, yeah- no, it doesn’t apply to us. (laughs)

BLITZER: All right, Jack. Thanks very much.
Forty-four minutes later, the commentator read some of the viewer responses to his question. Only the last e-mail explictly objected to the idea of a global one-child policy [audio from this segment available here].
CAFFERTY: A. writes from Oregon, ‘Pretty extreme Jack. However, in the near future, that’s certainly a consideration that many nations must make. When food, water, and critical medical services are in short supply, fewer people makes a lot of sense! Consider the enormous drain a family of eight has on society and the community, and yet, the state and federal governments reward huge families with benefits and tax breaks.’

Richard writes, ‘Wow, Jack. Thanks very much. Finally, someone in the media has the guts to state the obvious. Everything you said is true, but you were too gentle: it needs shouting out. The fundamentalists and others opposed to population control have had their way for too long.’

Sean in Belvidere, Illinois: ‘Morally, there are better ways of fighting global warming than infanticide. But sadly, this method makes more sense than carbon credits.’

Jay writes, ‘Absolutely. Every year, we have deer hunting season, with the argument that if we don’t control the deer population, they’ll over-breed and starve to death. Why can’t these ‘John and Kate’ and ‘Octomom’ people see that the same biological mathematics applies to humans? On a planet of finite resources, you cannot just keep producing an ever-growing pool of consumers and still expect the whole thing will work.’

Paul in Toronto says, ‘Jack, humans, like the H1N1 virus, are a virus, and if we don’t get ourselves under control, Mother Earth will eventually create her own vaccine and destroy us all in order to protect herself.’

Sebastian in Ann Arbor, Michigan: ‘Finally, it’s about time we started talking about this. As an only child, the son of an only child, and the parent of none, I say if you want more than one kid, then pay for it- a tax seems reasonable. Those who adopt would be exempt.’

And Sam says, ‘This is the most ignorant question I’ve ever seen.’ (both Cafferty and Blitzer laugh) All right, Sam.

A quote from my favorite polemic of all time

For all those advocates of a global version of China's genocical "one-child" policy, I give you these words:

"Ah, you miserable creatures! You who think that you are so great! You who judge humanity to be so small! You who wish to reform everything! Why don't you reform yourselves? That task would be sufficient enough...." -Frederic Bastiat, "The Law"

This has convinced me that

This has convinced me that AGW is definitely a religion. Why don't the true believers quit having any children or that matter quit flying around the globe in private jets?

Great idea - you get us started, Wolf and Jack...

Off yourselves by monday, please.

HACK CAFFERTY...

Cafferty is a recovering alcoholic(I hope he does well in this effort)who comes across as very angry & unhappy. Sort of a younger version of Andy Rooney. No, that is not a compliment, it's an observation.

Liberals 1st!

One-child Cap and Trade.

a ruse.

OK. Here's the deal. This is a family affair.

We had one child.

My two brothers had none (God knows they tried).

Al Gore had 4 children.

John Edwards had 4 children (with his wife). John Edwards had one child behind his wife's back.

So here's the way I figure it. Only having one child is a positive for the climate, and should be rewarded as such.

Having more than one child is a negative, and there must then be a penalty - the more ya have, the more the pain here.

Having a child with another via the act of adultery, of course, is the worst of all - Big, Big penalty.

My siblings and I have child credits available. Only having one child is worth $100K.  Not having children is worth $300K. We're in the bank for a cool $700K.

The Edwards exceeded their cap by 3. First offense is $100K. Second is $300. 3rd is $900K (look, I'm being progressive here - and exponential). The illegitimate child is $2,500,000. Edwards gets a credit back because Wade lost his life later in life, although in the real world, the penalty (tax) would have to be paid before the infant leaves the hospital. Edwards is out here a total of $3,700,000.

Big Al is looking at a penalty (tax) of $1,400,000.

My brothers and I, stand to collect  $700,000.

That leaves $4.4 million on the trade between the three families.

The difference here can go to build two massive windmills in the Kennedy's back yard, or they can sell them to other childless parents.

Let's see....putting off breast cancer screenings until 50, putting off prostate screeings indefinitetly, healthcare rationing, death panels, reducing our economic output, giving up our soverignty, and now compulsory birth control. What's next, forced abortions??  What, is this freakin' China or something? Are these Obama media flacks trying to put a happy, smiley face on totalitarian methods??

The results of Devaluing Human Life

This conversation between Blitzer and Cafferty seemed to have rolled on with the same ease two people would have while discussing macramé. This is due to decades of consistently devaluing human life. We have now come to the day when here in AMERICA news reporters are discussing the most effective approach to reduce the global population. Get a clue dope heads. Man made global warming / climate change has been shown to be a hoax!!! I can not believe that supposed educated men are having this type of morally vacuous discussion. They always want to kill other people, don't they? If they truly believe that man is responsible for the changing climate, than gather all of the global warming believers and get rid of them. Then we would have a little sanity back in our lives.

Ignorant comments!

CAFFERTY: I mean, from six and a half billion down to five and a
half by 2050, and if we do nothing, it will go up to nine. And at some
point, there’s not going to be enough stuff for everybody
.

Come on!  The only reason why "there's not going to be enough stuff for everybody" is because China's under Communist rule, Africa's largely under dicatorship rule and both of those countries aren't able to produce or aren't allowed to produce(hence the starving people of Africa that Bono likes to talk about so much) because they keep killing the farmers who attempt to grow any crops!

China's got so much pollution going on that the farmers there CAN'T grow crops when they try because the farmlands are so messed up.

For that guy to say stuff like this about the population is extremely ignorant!

And then there's the farmers here in America, they're forced to grow corn for the stupid ethanol(dangerous to the environment in so many ways) rather than other crops thus making the price of produce higher.

Ugh, this sheer level of ignorance is astounding!  They talk about too many people in New York as if there was no other place to live, just like I said in the other post about the canadian moron pushing one-child, there is plenty of land out there in this country.

This administration is very good at trying to destroy this country.  It's been too long already.  And the CNN idiots are helping spread their idiocy like the above.

Thank God I don't watch it anymore.  Thank you Fox News!

So.. between Jack and his wife they are responsible for 8 people on this planet at minimal..

Have you told 7 of the 8 that they should not be here??

Jack Cafferty is NOT saying that this is what we should do. He's floating the idea out there for discussion.

What are these people.

What are these people. Fascists. Communists. Marxists.

Does it really matter what we call them as they're all cut from the same cloth when push comes to shoving you into a ditch.

A totalitarian by any other name would stink so bad.

When I was a kid, first learning a little history, I wondred how did a people like the Germans degenerate into the obscenity of the holocaust.

A civilized nation of art, music, culture, literature -- and in six years they went from the Opera house to death camps. IN SIX FRACKIN' YEARS.

Well, not to be too hyperbolic, by the easy corruptability of views like those of Cafferty. That's how.

Don't think it couldn't happen in another "civilized" western country?  Think again.   What's starts as some government decree on what's best for everyone ends up with the barrel of a gun shoved in the face of those who dissent.

memo of the week

I posted this same comment a week ago. Did anyone notice how the media all focus on the same subject every week? Sarah Palin trashing, next week its all about the deniers are paid by big oil, this week it is population control. Misdirection by white house surrogates in order to defuse from the actions going on in congress. Power is shifting to the administrative branch away from legislative. Congress continues to allow this, the mid term elections will have no affect at all since congress is making themselves useless. I find it very difficult to believe the entire congress is full of mental defectives. Therefore, they must be in colusion, rep and dems. I'm just saying it looks strange.

Oh yea,

They are well behaved, only repeating what Axelrod and Holder tell them to

My Gov. thinks I am dangerous, so be careful

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Years ago, Limbaugh used to

Years ago, Limbaugh used to play soundbites one right after the other when the Clinton White House would send their people out to the major news outlets to pitch the latest Lefty lie. It was hysterical. I remember one day, the word 'gravitas' appeared. Limbaugh ran a series of soundbites where every single news outlet was discussing with some Liberal the 'gravitas' of this or that. Another week it was 'partisan'. Another week it was 'mean-spirited', etc.

Presidential Misdirection

Pick pockets jostle their mark before they rob him.  Our TOTUS is no better than a common pick pocket.

Remember all the comments by the Trinity from Hell (BO, Pelosi and Emanuel) about how they use crises to push their agenda?  Low life pick pockets, no more, no less.

Cafferty

OK, lefties, keep your nose out of my womb.

A little google search on

A little google search on Mr. population-control Cafferty shows he has four daughters and several grandchildren.

Update - sorry USA4FREEDOM - I had missed your post. But I guess it doesn't hurt to mention it twice.

Statistics

These are the kind of posts that lead me to look for statistics, since intuitively, I don't trust China. So:

According to the World Bank- Gross National Income (GNI), per capita

Liechtenstein and Bermuda are 1 & 2. The U.S. is number 11. The rankings go to 210 with Liberia, Congo and Burundi bringing up the rear.

  • U.S. GNI is $47,580
  • China, at number 127, has a GNI of $2,940
  • Burundi's GNI, by way of comparison, is $140.

Further: Purchasing Power (PP) per capita tells a similar tale.

  • U.S. at #11 has PP at $46,970
  • China at #122 has PP at $6,020
  • Congo at #210 has PP at $290

According to http://www.prb.org/Publications/Datasheets/2009/2009wpds.aspx world population is as follows:

  • World Population = 6,809,972,000
  • More Developed Countries = 1,232,100,000
  • Less Developed Countries = 5,577,872,000

Natural increase (births - deaths) per year is interesting:

  • World = 82,866,000
  • More Developed Countries = 2,083,000
  • Less Developed Countries = 80,784,000

In summary, China is signaling that population control is necessary to control Global Warming (and another Mao-loving journalist in Canada agrees) China has the worlds highest population per country, and is quite poor per capita. They have a high poverty rate, and yet more and more we're seeing America lefties looking to China for guidance in both social and economic policies. But, just like the solution for Global Warming -transferring the wealth of the developed countries to the less developed countries- will not solve the perceived problem, neither will population control of the more willing countries while the less willing countries continue to populate out of control. This is such a knee-jerk, eugenics laden argument that's so often used by Progressives to promote dissolving into a Utopian world. Sadly, in some cases, they're actually able to persuade people into complying. But, as with a drug dealer pushing his dope, it is typically the weak-minded and affirmed that buy into this nonsense.

Cafferty, you're an idiot.

Tell all these people in

Tell all these people in the Third World and European and American white trailer park and slum denizens who have more children than they know what to do with and never wanted in the first place to quit having so many children. In a word, control the sperm donors by telling them when and how they can have sex.  Yeah, right.  If these clowns aren't impregnating women they're getting high, drunk or stealing.

What they mean is for working white American and European families who have their act together to have only one kid so the ignorant and lazy (the Left's power base) can take over.

"Under Capitalism, man exploits man.  Under Communism it's just the opposite."

"All that Communism needs to make it successful is for someone to feed and clothe it."

If we can get liberalism classified as a religion

then they can no longer force their beliefs on us

to bad its not a religion, but rather an illness....

When it comes to government, its not whether the glass is half full or empty, its that the glass is just to big.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM...

If liberalism is a disease or a mental disorder, you could never fire a liberal. Because victims of disease have more rights then you do. Don't believe me? Look at how HIV/AIDS is viewed.

It is just that simple, and the concept does not require a Harvard grad with a wall plastered in paper to understand, either.

The inverse of that will result in our demise - at the very least economically, if not in other ways, too.

Does this sad excuse for a

Does this sad excuse for a human being have a family?  Does he have more than one kid?

If so, which ones will he be taking up to the top of a volcano or a Mayan pyramid to sacrifice to his pagan god, Al Gore?

Libs - try THINKING about what you're saying.

I love how these are the same people who keep saying 'you can't stop people from having sex', and 'we should celebrate sex' and all that.  Well, if they say it's immoral to stop people from having sex, then it's also immoral to say they can't have as many babies as they can care for, right?

They do know the ultimate purpose of sex is procreation, don't they?  After all, they're the 'smart' ones....

Japanese for 4 is "shi" or

Japanese for 4 is "shi" or "yon" with a long o.

Interesting enough, 4 is bad luck in Japan because "shi" is also the kanji for death.  hmmm.

Speaking of Japan, Japan has policies in effect to encourage people to have more children because there population is decreasing and they are worried about the future without enough people in the workforce to take care of the elderly.  Currently the gov. gives families about 100 dollars a month per child under the age of 12, and they are trying to increase it to $250/month.

(social justice?)

I left the Republican party because the Republic party went to the LEFT of me.

I may now be a

I may now be a statistician. . .or a biologist. . .

But, if every couple had at most one child, would not that mean the END of the human race within a relatively short period of time?

Think about it: In one generation, the population of the planet would be reduced by at least half (considering in addition those who had no children).  Another generation, by another half or more.  And so forth.

Bye bye mankind.

sean robins

Hey, I thought libs

Hey, I thought libs believed in reproductive freedom...oh, I forgot that only applies to abortion. What a bunch of nuts these folks have become.

This is nutz. But lets encourage the left to do it.

If they keep reproducing one for every two of them soon they will not be a problem.

Never could understand the left's view of children, especially with abortion. Abortion has killed millions of potential tax payers and Democrats. Seems like the Dems would want each generation to be larger than the last to finance their Ponzi schemes like Social Securtiy.

World Sustainable Population and AGW

If you dig into the belief system driving AGW you will find the core movers and shakers are proponents of the World Sustainable Population theory.  This crowd envisions a world strictly governed to control all aspects of life at a level that would make Orwell blush.

Do a search on Anne Ehrlich and Paul Ehrlich.  You will gain an appreciation that AGW is the front for achieving this despotic utopia of "life as it should be" in the eyes of the lunitic left.

I really want to respond!

But pretty much all has been said, jack!-off-yourself, and only kill girl baby girls, in china,=more-male-soldiers, I'm sure glad that they got rid of that controversial guy Lou Dobbs, we need more hosts,{parasites} like the dirty sanchez.

Jack Cafferty

For the record: Jack Cafferty has 4 children.

grumpy old Jack

A simple solution for this old useless fart...

Jack is old, beyond his usefullness, so he should immediatley kill himself. But prior to that, he should ask 3 of his kids to do the same. And the remaining kid should sterilize themself.

Would he do it? Would they do it? No. But like a typical liberal hypocrite, he wants everyone else to live that sort of life.

Just like Gore with his carbon generation. Just like all the attendees to Copenhagen in their jets and limos.

But don't forget... as that great priestess, Joy Behar said...  liberals have no morals so they don't have anything to apologize for.

Just to Get a number out there

I have heard what I considered a natural, fully industrialized, technologyically advanced population load for planet earth is 25 Billion and at current population profile growth, the earth has CENTURIES to deal with that. We have CENTURIES to deal with our depleting fossil fuel problems and we have CENTURIES to solve the nuclear waste challenges.

China puts most of their 1.3 Billion people in Cities along their eastern Coast and continued urban development can hold worldwide population growth if we just get a little bit of will power and solve the problem.

I was going to say the Cafferty's of the world were unamerican but I think they're just inconsiquential whiners who should be pushed back like nats. Leadership needs to solve the real problems not the looser problems.

hey Jack, how about a lottery-

and we only have names over 65 of all Americans and we then kill them off.

The Ehrlichs and John Holdren

A couple of thoughts. I noticed, with interest, the mention of the Ehrlichs. They have a friend in high places. Their friend and fellow believer in drastic population control is John Holdren, King Obama's science csar. Holdren is also a contributor of emails in the climategate debacle. In it, he details how to discredit scientists who proposed through massive amounts of empirical evidence that the Sun's sunspot output greatly affects global temperature and climate. His aim was to discredit them and their credentials and see to that they don't get published. But also, he believes as the Ehrlichs do, that population control and reduction is necessary. Your tax dollars at work. Yet another socialist in Obama's admin, surprise, surprise ...

The way to deal with human population is to get more room. The planet can sustain quite a bit. But we should look to space exploration, which will happen through coporate and private venture. The government is a failure at that.

THE LOTTERY...

 JIMMY 1660,

Sounds like you want to recreate a movie from a while back called "The Lottery". It's about a small town where a lottery is held to pick who will be sacrificed to help with making sure there is a good harvest. The person picked is stoned to death.
