Democratic strategist Paul Begala can be relied upon to use the “drug card” against Rush Limbaugh whenever the talk radio host is brought up, and he was true to form on Tuesday’s Situation Room. When anchor Wolf Blitzer asked what it would mean if Limbaugh bought the St. Louis Rams, Begala snarked, “Just don’t put him in charge of the team’s drug policy....Don’t give him access to that medicine cabinet” [ audio clip from the segment is available here].
Blitzer brought up Limbaugh just after the bottom of the 6 pm Eastern hour during in a panel discussion with Begala, Republican strategist Ed Rollins, and CNN personalities Gloria Borger, Joe Johns, and Jessica Yellin. The anchor asked Johns, “Rush Limbaugh- he’s thinking about buying, or at least, participating in a group that’s buys the St. Louis Rams in the NFL....What, if anything, would that mean for the St. Louis Rams?” Johns replied, “Probably very little....you know, [if] you’ve got a good football team in a place...like St. Louis, people are going to watch. And so what if Rush Limbaugh is the owner” [see video from the segment below the jump].
Begala interjected himself at this point with his crack about his adversary on the right: “Just- just don’t put him in charge of the team’s drug policy. That’s the only thing. Don’t give him access to that medicine cabinet.” All of the other panelists smiled and/or laughed in response to Begala’s remark. Blitzer turned to Rollins and remarked about how “there’s a lot of liberals in St. Louis, as you well know.” The Republican answered, “Just so long as he has deep pockets and spends on a good team- you know, you have to- I will pit Rush Limbaugh, as unpopular he may be among liberals, against the owner of the Washington Redskins [Dan Snyder] any given day on a popularity contest.”
The strategist has a history of bashing Limbaugh by using the host’s past addiction to prescription painkillers. On Election Night 2006, Begala insulted the conservative host as a “drug-addled gasbag.” Nine months later in August 2007, during another panel discussion on The Situation Room, the strategist attacked Republicans for “going after people’s families,” lumping in Limbaugh in his offensive: “Not just attacking Bill Clinton, we remember Rush Limbaugh attacking Chelsea Clinton. Maybe it was the OxyContin talking.” Earlier in 2009, he labeled the talk radio giant a “corpulent drug addict.”
The transcript of the relevant portion of the panel discussion segment from Tuesday’s Situation Room:
WOLF BLITZER (to Joe Johns, CNN correspondent): Joe, Rush Limbaugh- he’s thinking about buying, or at least, participating in a group that’s buys the St. Louis Rams in the NFL. We love football.
JOE JOHNS: Absolutely.
BLITZER: What, if anything, would that mean for the St. Louis Rams?
JOHNS: Probably very little (laughs), because-
BLITZER: They’re not very good.
JOHNS: Frankly- you know, [if] you’ve got a good football team in a place like- like St. Louis, people are going to watch. And so what if Rush Limbaugh is the owner. That’s the only kind-
PAUL BEGALA: Just- just don’t put him in charge of the team’s drug policy. (Johns, Gloria Borger, and Jessica Yellin all laugh). That’s the only thing. Don’t give him access to that medicine cabinet. (unintelligible crosstalk)
BLITZER (to Ed Rollins, Republican strategist): Because you know- you know- Ed, there’s a lot of liberals in St. Louis, as you well know.
ED ROLLINS: Just so long as he has deep pockets and spends on a good team- you know, you have to- I will pit Rush Limbaugh, as unpopular he may be among liberals, against the owner of the Washington Redskins any given day on a popularity contest.

Party line + Venom
October 6, 2009 - 20:30 ET by cajun2You can expect the same nonsense from Begala, Beckal, and Carville. They spout venom because they are unable to discuss issues. They attack the messenger even more when The One has disappointed them. Look at each of Obamas failures, then note the numerous and immediate appearances by these hacks on Fringe tv practicing protectionism. It is so predictable.

October 6, 2009 - 21:59 ET by rockyracoonAs much as I dislike Beckel, he has stated in the past that he is a recovering alcoholic, on that basis I would leave him, Beckel alone. That being said, I haven't heard Beckel go after someone below the belt on an addiction issue. On everything else he's as bad, if not worse than the other two clowns; no insult to clowns intended.
Begelia is probably the worst offender. What a pathetic creature; I wouldn't cross the street to spit on his hair if it were on fire.

response to Tip Top
October 7, 2009 - 07:14 ET by mom_roxTip Top, you probably asked this question only rhetorically, or so that you could provide your oh, so clever, theory on why Rush was so animated.
From the man himself: Rush explained that he spoke fast because he knew that he only had a few minutes to get his points across. (Unlike during his radio show where he speaks with a normal cadence.)

But people who live in glass houses might not want to throw stones. The President is a former stoner as are probably at a minimum half of those he has appointed to office (or currently so). Plus if they want to dig up buried dirt why stop there? Why not more serious stuff like the race riots Al Sharpton used to stir up, Planned Parenthoods racist past (and present), Union thuggery past and present.
It is fair play, but turn about is fair play too.

Let’s see using that
October 7, 2009 - 00:58 ET by Jeff in Miami BeachLet’s see using that logic:
* Tim Geithner would not be head of the IRS
* Charlie Rangel would not be the man that writes the tax code.
* Tom Daschle (former Senate majority Leader) would not be part of Obama’s private cabinet.
* Nancy Pelosi would not have exempt American Samoa (big Tuna) from the new minimum wage that has resulted in 50% unemployment in entry level workers.
So there are a few Public employees, that are complete cheats that make Rush look like a saint since he does not feed at the public trough.
If you think medical care is expensive now wait until it is free!
Hypocracy
October 7, 2009 - 01:48 ET by LindamaePaul should temper his comments about Rush with ones about Obama. Rush took meds that his doctor prescribed - like millions of people - unfortunately, he was one of those who became instantly addicted to this dangerous drub. My cousin's 34 year old wife is technically dead because she is one of those who became addicted. They are divorced, she's been remarried 2 times, the two little kids are in turmoil - missed the first day of school - mommy wasn't feeling too well - it is a crime.
Obama admits in his book that he regrets not studying to his best ability and partying and drinking and drugging while in college. Perhaps that is why he only has not shared his college grades. Gore and Bush did as well as others. We need remember one thing. Rush got his drugs from his doctor until the addition became so strong that he tried to buy them any way he could. Obama had to go to is neighborhood friendly drug pusher to buy his drugs.
Rush has kicked his habit. My nephew's wife can not. We don't know what Obama does - he never shared his health records as did everyone else who ran. He's a man of mystery compared to the others who ran in the election.

October 7, 2009 - 07:38 ET by fatharryNothing to do with your statement Sergeant ROCK, but it looked like a good place to say this: Who the Hell cares what Paul Begala thinks or says? I wouldn't take the time to read anything that he says, because it's never going to change. He dropped the soap in the liberal shower years ago. It's how he pays the rent and feeds the babies. He has no conscious and will say any vicious, despicable thing he can about anybody, the truth be damned. October 8, 2009 - 16:55 ET by samhermanmdPaul and the rest of the foaming-mouthed liberals just can't stand being made irrelevant overnight. Now that Bush is no longer in office, they can't stand the fact that they are now just another voice in a vast chorus of mediocrity that is the pro-Obama main stream media.
Paul is addicted to the attention that his psychopathic squalling yields to him every few months. Then, he wanders back under the rock until something else sets him back in the same old behavior. Since Paul seems to be like a rabid dog, perhaps a shock collar and electronic boundary fence would keep him where CNN can muzzle him.
