GOP Palin Critics ‘Intellectual,’ Palin Backers ‘Knuckle-Draggers’?

Photo of Matthew Balan.

During a roundtable discussion on Monday’s Newsroom program with conservative talk show host Martha Zoller and her left-wing colleague Mike Malloy, CNN anchor Rick Sanchez strangely differentiated between "intellectual" conservatives who are "not so crazy" about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and social conservatives who "love" her. Sanchez then described Zoller as a "mix" of the two. Later in the segment, Malloy opined that Sarah Palin "brought out the crazy people. That's what the Republican base is. The Republican base are people who don't want the queers to get married. They don't want a woman to have a right to privacy. They want to do away with capital gains taxes, which has nothing whatsoever to do with their life. What Sarah Palin did was bring out the knuckle-draggers, the mouth-breathers..."

The CNN anchor made the differentiation between "intellectual" and "social" conservatives as he brought up the results of CNN/Opinion Research poll that was taken between October 30 and November 1 that found that 65% of Americans thought that Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden had the "personal qualities" to be president, versus only 40% for Sarah Palin. Sanchez prefaced reading the results of this poll by asking, "Is this the reason he’s [McCain’s] suffering, as some intellectual conservatives will tell you?" Before he could continue, Zoller jokingly interjected, "Right -- as opposed to me." Sanchez reassured her, "Well, no -- you’re part of the -- well, you're actually a mix, because there’s social conservatives and the intellectual conservatives." Zoller replied, "I know, I know. I’m just kidding." Before continuing on the poll results, Sanchez tried to clarify what he meant by this distinction: "The social conservatives love Sarah Palin -- the intellectual conservatives, not so crazy about her."

After reading the poll results, Sanchez finally asked his full question: "So here's the question: is [has] Sarah Palin dragged down this ticket?" Zoller answered, "Absolutely not, because she has energized the base. Without Sarah Palin, John McCain is really ten points down, not, you know, bouncing around in the polls like this." The CNN anchor followed-up by asking, "You don't think Huckabee -- you don't think Huckabee or Romney would have given him that same base, plus give him more?" The conservative talk show host replied, "Not in the way that Sarah Palin did."

Sanchez then turned to Malloy, who gave a rant about how the Republican base consists of a bunch of crazy, "intolerant" Neanderthals:

MIKE MALLOY: Well, Sarah Palin brought out the crazy people. That's what the Republican base is.

ZOLLER: (Laughs)

MALLOY: The Republican base are people who don’t want the queers to get married.

SANCHEZ: Mmhmm.

MALLOY: They don’t want a woman to have a right to privacy. They want to do away with capital gains taxes, which has nothing whatsoever to do with their life. What Sarah Palin did was bring out the knuckle-draggers, the mouth-breathers, the people that say --

ZOLLER: Hey Mike, I disagree -- this is the kind of personal attack --

MALLOY: I’m going to vote [gestures] -- I'm going to vote for -- Nobody -- anybody, anybody in the Republican party who understands Republican politics is shocked that he picked Sarah Palin. Why appeal to the base? The base is already there.

ZOLLER: The base was not there.

In response to Malloy’s diatribe, Sanchez looked uncomfortable, but he seemed to be more concerned about his use of the word "queer" than his insults towards conservative Palin supporters:

SANCHEZ: To be clear with our viewers, you’re using some of that language figuratively though, right? Like when you used the word before

ZOLLER: No, Mike is not.

SANCHEZ: You think that’s what they think? Mike Malloy is not saying -- using that word.

MALLOY: What word?

SANCHEZ: The ‘queer’ word.

MALLOY: Well, yeah, what they think.

SANCHEZ: Okay. All right, just to be clear --

Malloy has a record of using invectives towards conservatives. It was only a few weeks ago that Mike Malloy referred to Minnesota Representative Michelle Bachmann as an "absolute evil woman" and compared her to the Nazis.

How many jobs do Obama voters create?

I'm sick to death of these jerks riding down the people who make this country great while celebrating the lazy worthless losers.

What is funny about the Liberal idiots

is that IF their guy wins they will be on all the shows telling the Conservatives how "it's time for everyone to unite behind the President."  They're going to pretend that all the insults and bashing of the Right should just be forgotten and everyone fall in lockstep like them.

Palin brings out the crazies for sure - on the LEFT

I've never heard the MSM so unhinged before

you know - the pondscum feverishly destroying traditional marriage in favor of homos - with the peds on deck a few years later, killing 3000 babies a day for convenience sake, openly loathing free enterprise and democracy and yet EXPLODING IN OUTRAGE when you correctly question their complete and utter lack of patriotism...

Right now even Mika and Buchanan are saying the same thing about Palin and her great campaign speeches today...I don't know if anybody heard her...she is on fire and just unloading the truth out there...like Pat and Mika said, it is too bad they didn't let Sarah be Sarah...

I feel the same way...we would not be behind, plus if McC had not held her back and then sign that bail-out bill we would be sitting pretty well right about now...look at the trouble some of the congress-critters are having now that voted for that bill too...

Only a few weeks ago that Malloy called McCain a war crimminal

10/09/08 - Malloy's Novamnetwork radio show.

He [Malloy] was in a rant - about all he does - on US pilots, etc.,  the target of course was John McCain. He spoke of (I'm just going to spit out the words) fighter pilots, bombing cities and civilians from 30,000 ft, murders, despicable scum, war criminals ..'do you know about the Nuremberg Trials' .. we hanged people for those crimes.. and as far as McCain.. cowardly..  the most criminal act ..  not the act of a hero ... the act of an insane ..sick .. murderous .. beast ..."

CNN allowed this sick madman on the tube?

The segue to McCain was quick - perhaps carefully constructed - but my take is that he compared  McCain to those we hang  -and/or at least all the rest of the military that flies bombing missions.

Mike Malloy is one of those rare creatures. So bad at what he does that he even got fired from Air America! He's laughable!

This is the real crying shame. Liberals think "robbing the rich" should be okay with anyone who isn't "rich." Sadly, too many Americans buy into this sad, self-centered viewpoint. If the government "needs" money, it's fine to just take it... as long as you take it from someone else!

OBAMA & AYERS IN CONSTANT CONTACT FOR 20 YEARS

Ayers and Obama in regular contact says source close to Obama candidacy

By Steve Diamond
Steve Diamond of Global Labor and Politics blog is a professor of law and teaches courses in global capital markets, business law, international human rights and labor law.

The relationship between the Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate Barack Obama and Bill Ayers, the founder and leader of the now defunct terrorist organization Weather Underground, is deeper and closer than currently understood, according to an individual who has had a senior role in the Obama candidacy. Ayers has had direct contact with the candidate.

The Weather Underground was responsible for a series of bombings during the 1970s that caused extensive property damage. [Only two bomb’s failures (at the front of the home and under the gas tank of the family car) kept an entire family from dying as they slept, reports John Murtagh, then the 9-year-old son of the judge whose family WU wanted to kill. “When This Man Was 9 Years Old, Ayers Bombed His Home.” - Ed.]

Three of the Underground’s own members died when a bomb exploded accidentally in a New York town house in 1970. Among the dead was Ayers’ girl friend at the time, Diana Oughton.

The source has stated that Obama and Ayers have a direct personal relationship that extends back to the 1980s and that there are now close ties between both Michelle and Barack Obama and Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, also a former leader of the Weather Underground. Global Labor believes the source to be highly credible.

The source has said that either Obama himself or his wife Michelle communicate with Ayers or Dohrn on a regular basis, up to “several times a week,” including discussions about the “vetting” of potential advisors to the campaign as well as potential appointments to staff positions in the new administration should Obama win the presidential race.

The source continues to support the Obama candidacy but has expressed serious concern about the influence of what is known in the campaign as the “Ayers camp” on the candidate.

The Obama campaign itself has officially denied the existence of a close relationship between Ayers and Obama and continues to quote on its website mainstream media sources that contend that connections between the two are “tenuous.” While Obama himself attempted to minimize the relationship he has never denied that it existed and, in fact, hinted during a debate with Hilary Clinton that he had had dinner with Ayers at some point. Ayers himself has refused to talk to the media about his relationship with Obama.

Annenberg Challenge appointment a “culmination” of Ayers ties

Global Labor has reported that Ayers was responsible for the selection of Obama as Chairman of the $150 million Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform effort that Ayers helped found and lead from 1994 to 2002. While that conclusion has been challenged by, among others, spokespersons for the Obama campaign and The New York Times, this source called the appointment of Obama to the Annenberg post the “culmination” of the relationship between Ayers and Obama at that point in time.

The same source has said that senior campaign staff including David Axelrod, Obama’s campaign manager, spoke directly with Ayers about preventing access by independent investigators to records of the Challenge. The source was in touch with an individual with first hand knowledge of the conversations that took place between Axelrod and Ayers but that individual was apparently reluctant to speak publicly.

Ayers is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus where the records are housed and where the Annenberg Challenge had its offices when it was first established by Ayers, among others, in 1995.

When a conservative intellectual and writer, Stanley Kurtz, of the National Review, attempted to access the records earlier this year he was denied access for several weeks. Emails released by the University confirmed that the former Executive Director of the Challenge, Ken Rolling, who has had a long time relationship with Ayers and Obama in the Chicago education reform environment, was in touch with senior University officials during that period.

A reporter for the Chicago Tribune told Global Labor that Rolling contacted the University on the very same day that Kurtz did. Kurtz was then denied access to the University’s records the next day. When the Challenge donated its records to the University in 2002 they were supposed to be made available for research to the public.

Global Labor was later told by an independent source outside the Obama campaign that two individuals attending the Democratic Party’s National Convention in Denver this past summer heard long time Ayers’ colleague, Tom Hayden, “brag” that Ayers and Axelrod “would take care of the Annenberg issue.”

I certainly hope we don't have

reason to witness this, but IF Obama wins, I'd bet dollars to donuts that William and Bernadine will be honored guests at his inauguration and will spend many a night in the Lincoln Bedroom.

After which, the housekeeping staff should do an extra-strong cleaning!!!  Boil the sheets...throw out the drapes & bedspread!  Fumigate the furniture and rugs!!!!

Another knuckledragging old lady and darn proud of it!!!

Back on the Chain Gang

The only federal property Dohrn and Ayres should be allowed on is a federal prison, preferably Guantanamo.

Let's do the math

Malloy insults almost 50% of the US population by referring to us as knuckle-dragging mouth breathers, crazy and idiots, and Sanchez is fixated on his use of the word "queers?"  The rest doesn't bother him, but when he refers to gay people as "queers" (which, BTW is how they refer to THEMSELVES) well, that's just beyond the pale.

No matter who wins tomorrow, I truly hope we have heard the death knell for the MSM.

Count me in

Proud "knuckle-dragger" here.

Consider this me voting PRESENT...lol

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

I fail to see how this is

I fail to see how this is offensive.  Palin and her supporters have enthusiastically positioned themselves as the antithesis of navel-gazing unproductive intellectualism in favor of some abstract notion of "action."  The very idea of operating through intellect rather than emotion and sentimentality has been openly and repeatedly mocked by Palin and the cult of personality that she has fostered.  So how is any of this a surprise?  Indeed, I have yet to hear a defense of Palin or her positions that is reasoned, intelligent, yes, 'intellectual.'  Her appeal seems to be predicated entirely on mythologies of folksy everydayness - She's a hockey mom!  She loves her children! - and her emphatic rejection of intellectualism - seeing how aligned it is with elitism and all...

Intellectuilism? Coming

Intellectuilism? Coming from a group of people who have disposed of anything close to rational thought and have fallen headlong for platitudes and a cult of personality? Your joking right?

At any rate I fixed this for you:

Give me a fricken break Jason!! The democrat party lives on emotions and slogans! They wouldn't know a reasoned arguement if it bit them on the butt!

Just because conservatives don't fall for this bovine excrement doesn't mean we don't appreciate the effort it takes to put it together though. Barack hires good speechwriters. Too bad he can't hire truth.

Well Jason, I assume that

Well Jason, I assume that people so intellectual superior could probably come up with a far less offensive phrase than "knuckle draggers".

You say you have yet to see a "reasoned" defense of Palin's positions.  I have yet to see a "reasoned" critique of her positions.   I have yet to see any CREDIBLE, reasoned defense of William Ayers, Jerimiah Wright, Acorn, Marxism, or Obama's Socialist policies, or the democrat's Jack-booted attacks on Joe the Plumber, or their mindless hatred of Sarah Palin.

Never before in the history of the world have such a large group of self-proclaimed "intelletuals" been so freaking stupid.

When asked if he went to war with Iraq  to derail the impeachment vote:  “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).

Liberals are the ones who

Liberals are the ones who refuse to hear reason. That's exactly the reason they use this kind of insulting rhetoric.  It's a deliberate tactic of demonization designed to discredit the opposition so they don't have to defend their positions or listen to opposing views.

Liberalism is based on knee-jerk emotionalism and shallow reasoning.  Conservatism takes thought and reason.

Just look at the absolutely stupid claim that conservatives "don’t want a woman to have a right to privacy."  That's supposed to be an intellectual argument? What absolute bunk! Abortion has nothing to do with privacy.  But to try to argue for it based on the life issue might not win it for them, so they resort to the idiotic privacy angle.  They do this with practically every issue.

Sorry pal, but that's anti-intellectual.  Malloy is the real knuckle-dragger.

Of course there's nothing

Of course there's nothing wrong with being folksy, being a hockey mom, loving your children. Unless that's the reason you think she would be a great VP.

Liberals always seem to gravitate (there's that word again)...

...to careers where you're not expected to achieve anything concrete within a specified deadline (education, politics, domestic terrorism).

This makes it possible for liberals to avoid responsibility and personal accountability for their failures (and sometimes for their successes!)

Sarah Palin willingly accepted individual responsibility first as mayor, then as governor. In both of these offices Palin was the final decision maker. She alone was ultimately responsible for the outcome.

Obama, however, took no chances. Even in college, by his own account, he was careful to maintain appearances by selecting just the 'right' acquaintances. As a Chicago 'community organizer' and machine politician, Obama was the faithful apparatchik who offended no one who might possibly be of assistance to him.

It is common knowledge that Obama's primary purpose in the Illinois Senate was that of 'oxygen thief'. Over a hundred times he voted 'present' rather than risk taking a principled stand on an issue.

Even today Obama's most valuable skill is his surreal ability to evade responsibility for his most outrageous and even monstrous votes, words, acts and alliances. Whatever happens tomorrow, it can be said with certainty that Obama will never allow himself to accept any blame or responsibility.

A common term for this kind of personality is 'sociopathic'.

And yet, as always, the

And yet, as always, the evidence is against you--especially in 0bama's case.  His career is a huge zero.  I'll wager there's not ONE other editor of an Ivy League law school's law review that never published a single article.  Ditto his employment as a lecturer in law--no publications at all, even though real professors are all too familiar with the "publish or perish" nature of the collegiate world.

We're all quite familiar with his over 100 "present" votes in the Illinois Senate--once again distinguishing himself as the "do nothing" guy.  And finally, there's his time in the U.S. Senate, during which he's accomplished nothing of note other than racking up an impressive record of tardiness at hearings.

These are facts.  If such a person had proposed himself as candidate for the Republican nomination, he would have been laughed off the dais before the first day of the primaries.  That he is feted by liberals all over the nation is proof enough of the theory in question.

Uh-huh...and your "evidence"

Uh-huh...and your "evidence" about all the other liberals out there gravitating towards careers where they don't have to do anything?

Hockey Kid - read my link above about why Obama is mum

about Harvard.

He was not picked for his grades or accomplishments.

Agreed

Well said.

I am a conservative who is willing to think for himself.

Thanks Tex.  I mean, it

Thanks Tex.  I mean, it makes perfect sense, right?  Their whole deal has been "being well-educated isn't that impressive" and "we won't be powerful by talking with rogue leaders" and "we need regular folks, not Harvard elitists".  They did the work of equating education/intellect with elitism.  As if it's a slippery slope between intellectual curiosity and becoming a full-blown, effete, arugula-eating wine-sipping, New Yorker-reading snob.  And so those who supported Palin were indeed proudly anti-intellectual.  Is this some sort of surprise?

Disagree.

Very poorly said.

No representation, without taxation!

But who can deny it?

But who can deny it?  While I tend to reserve the knuckledragger epithet specifically for those who fight against gay marriage and the teaching of evolution, the very basic fact being pointed out here is that Palin worked as hard as possible to equate elitism with intellectualism, and then to emphatically distance herself from - and mock - both of those things.  It's simply being pointed out here that that strategy has indeed attracted those who think in more visceral terms, to put it nicely.  People who heard Palin say Obama wants to "raise a white flag" and repeat it as gospel.  Who chant "Drill Baby Drill as if our energy problems can be solved through a mind-numbing stadium chant.  This is the crowd Palin asked for, and it's the crowd she got.

And do not make the mistake of turning intellectualism and intelligence into synonyms.  Saying someone is anti-intellectual is by no means the same as saying they're stupid.  For instance, I do not think Sarah Palin is stupid...just woefully wrong about basically everything.

Good morning Jason

Nice string of words but not very concise nor meaningful. I hope you impressed yourself.

coco, Jason needs a fresh set of Obamaton batteries.

His are apparently running low.  :-)

I voted. Have you?

Good morning RD

He needs to start buying American batteries and quit using that Jesse Jackson confusasorius he has.

Jason, you ignorant slut...

"attracted those who think in more visceral terms, to put it nicely."

Jason, you pompous, religion-disdaining twit.

(No relation to... Jane, you ignorant slut.)

There's nothing "knuckledragging" about people who see a rather unnatural sex act like man-on-man sex as, well, unnatural, and/or people that believe there's a higher power holding this all together.

And you want to talk about "mind-numbing" chants? Have you been to a "YES-WE-CAN" Obama rally? And their chanting a complete empty, meaningless, platitude sentiment. The Palin crowds are... wow, get this... chanting an ISSUE! Yeah, real knuckledragging behavior there.

My careful word choices

My careful word choices were apparently for nothing.

I did not say I reserve the term for people who are opposed to gay marriage; if it makes people uncomfortable or if they truly believe it is an abomination, I'm sure they can't help it.  Goodness knows I've had zero luck convincing people otherwise, much as I believe in it.  However, my comment was reserved for those who actively work against gay marriage, who cannot just accept that, tasteless as they might find it, 1) It does not affect them in any way and 2) The whole point of gay marriage is to move away from the stereotypes of promiscuity and hedonism that those same social conservatives tend to align with gay people.  I call those people knuckledraggers for butting in where they have no business doing so and for not just, as living and letting live.

Nor did I call those who believe in Genesis knuckledraggers; again, my remark was reserved specifically for those take that belief to the extreme of depriving kids of learning about actual science.

And so both of those knee-jerk critiques of yours are completely off-base.  Why don't you go write some more pseudo-techno love songs for youtube?

Political chanting of any kind tends to be empty of substance.  Drill Baby Drill struck me as particularly infantile, though the sheer idiocy of it did not strike me until Palin, per usual, made a fool of herself by correcting Biden's reference to it in the debate; as if "Drill Drill Drill" and "Drill Baby Drill" have this massive semantic disparity.

God, I can't wait til she loses.

What a pompous filled hateful rant Jason

If Obama wins, the only good thing that will come from it is pompous jerks like you will be silenced. You will be living in your heaven and have no one to belittle. The skies will have opened up and rude ignorant people like you may turn into nice caring people, considerate of their neighbors and working for charity rather than political hacks (I won't hold my breath.

That "Drill baby Drill" did not come from Palin, it didn't come from Republican leaders, it was a spontaneous crowd thing. The nerve of people to say such a horrible thing huh? How stupid of people to want to bring some of the jobs and oil wealth to this country - what a bunch of rubes. Couldn't they come up with some more sophisticated hate filled rant?

Sorry, I know you prefer chants like "Bush lied people died" and "No War for Oil", "Jesus was a community organizer", "Death to America" and other hate filled rants and religious perversions. Then there is always the empty "Yes We Can" when no one chanting it knows what the "can" is.

If Obama wins maybe you'll become a nice person. I guess that's something.

You dramatically

You dramatically overestimate my affinity for Obama.  And calling anything I've ever written here a "hate-filled rant" is a serious pot/kettle kind of situation.  I'm hate-filled because I roll my eyes at Drill Baby Drill, yet you and others on here consistently and ruthlessly mock the optimism and idealism of Obama supporters with no less a degree of viciousness.  I'm mostly interested in pointing out how absurd the whole thing has become.

Sans Palin, the race almost didn't matter.  Every time someone freaks out over Obama's dramatically-alleged socialism or liberalism, it's difficult not to roll one's eyes and point out that McCain and Obama have almost no major ideological or policy-oriented differences.  As usual, it's a tweedledum and -dumber scenario.  The pageantry of the election plays up differences that are barely even there.  It is only through the pandering choice of Palin for VP that this election began to matter to me at all, as I have expressed over and over on this site; and when I vote (in a few minutes actually), it will not be for Obama or against McCain, but emphatically against Palin and what she has come to represent.

I'll let this be my final word until tomorrow morning, but you can bet NB is where I'll be then...

Who would have dreamed that when socialism came to the U.S.A.

Your hatred of Palin is really sad Jason

I hate that I live in a country where large amounts of people have been primed to hate people like Sarah Palin & Joe the Plumber.  It was bad enough how the mean spirited disillusion hatred was encouraged for our President, but now it's spread to regular people. This is not the America I've known and been proud of.

The only big differences between McCain and Obama is that McCain is more honest, truly loves his country, believes in the current constitution, and will appoint judges that will interpret not make law.  I don't agree with many of his policies and he's too influenced by mean spirited liberals (thinks he can make them happy), but he is much more principled than Obama.

You are worse than most of the hate filled Obama supporters.  At least they believe in him.  You are voting purely on hate for someone just because they are different from you.  It's not based on anything Palin has done, just your bigoted opinion of her speech patterns and culture.

This is so sad - regardless of the election outcome

Any "hatred" of Joe the

Any "hatred" of Joe the Plumber is a result of the right holding him up as some kind of warrior for their cause, making him out to be the demolisher of the Obama house of cards.

That guy was used by both

That guy was used by both sides, plain and simple.  Why should anyone hate Joe W. himself.  He's a plumber in the midwest who voted for McCain.  In any rational accounting of things, he's nothing more and nothing less.  But the problem is that he was arrogated in service of the cynical, patronizing belief that voters are imbecilic enough (and of course some are, so the tactic sometimes works) to invest all of their beliefs and perceptions of self in one totemistic figure.  Because of course, it's inconceivable that different blue-collar workers have different ideals and perspecives and goals in life.  The right does this as much as the left, yet somehow we're always the elitists.

Voters are imbecilic alright - you are a prime example Jason

Joe the Plumber understood a very simple concept that imbecilic people can't seem to grasp.  Punitive Taxes on the job makers hurts jobs and therefore hurts workers!

Geeze - you are unbelievable - now it's imbecilic to believe that if you work hard enough, some day you could own your own business? It's imbecilic to believe that if you don't want to work that hard you should accept the fact that you will be comfortable but the harder workers will be more wealthy?

I can't believe there are people in our Country who feel this way.  I sure hope Jason and Balboa get the toilet cleaning jobs when everything is equal.  I'm going to be a movie star for the same pay.

Whoosh... That was the

Whoosh...

That was the sound of my point going over Dee's head.

I said perfectly clearly that there's no reason to hate Joe.  What some of us are irritated with is the way that he was exploited under the assumption that he represented the socio-political desires of every single 'Joe Six-Pack,' as both Palin and Mr. Burns would call them.  It has nothing to do with what he actually does or does not believe.

Who would have dreamed that when socialism came to the U.S.A.
it would be brought not by Bolsheviks in blue jeans but Wall Street
bankers in Gucci loafers?

How could your point go over my head when it's in the gutter?

Dream on snob boy.  You could never make a point over my head.  I'll take you on on any subject.  Your blind hatred and prejudices ensure that you will lose.

Palin, McCain & Joe the Plumber never claimed by any stretch that Joe's beliefs represented all Plumbers or all Joe six-packs.  You only felt that because of the constant demagoguery of they left who do just that.  You people think any average Joe is stupid to not expect or want a hand out.

You know damn well that Democrats position themselves as the party of the working man - Joe the Plumber was the one who said - hey - you don't represent all of us.  So by your logic, you should have been thrilled, not angered by him.

Woosh again, Big D.  Let's

Woosh again, Big D.  Let's review my original comment in this thread.  I started off by saying:

"That guy was used by both sides, plain and simple."

This was my way of agreeing with the general thrust of Balboa's argument, but taking issue with the fact that Bal attributed this explicitly to the right.  My post goes on, then, not to indict Republicans for anything, but to criticize the use of people like JtP, and the voters' uncanny ability to fall for the ploy hook, line, and sinker.

Watch the final presidential debate again.  You cannot tell me that Obama and McCain were equally desperate to turn the whole JtP-as-Blue-Collar-Deity myth toward their side.  Not because he said anything brilliant or penetrating about the issues; because of what he represents and what exploitative use that representation could be put toward.

The problem, Dee, is that you are wilfully blind to the fact that I am not a Democratic/Obama apologist.  Yet your responses consistently assume that I am.

What issue would you like to "take on" next?

Who would have dreamed that when socialism came to the U.S.A.
it would be brought not by Bolsheviks in blue jeans but Wall Street
bankers in Gucci loafers?

Jason - you have been coming here for close to 3 years

and I can't recall one time you have criticized Obama or Kerry except by simply saying you didn't like them either.  You are overflowing with criticism for Republicans so save the act.  I don't buy that you are anything but a liberal.

It doesn't matter what I assume about you anyway because your arguments should be valid whether you are or are not a liberal.  Liberals always pretend they are something else because they think it bolsters their argument.  IT DOESN'T.   Even if you don't call yourself a liberal- your arguments are the same as if you were.  If you are not like them then prove it by arguing without the biased hatred for people who are different from you.

Don't criticize Sarah Palin for her accent or the phrases she uses or her education, criticize the policy she advocates without insulting her.  It's not that hard!

We are not falling for the "ploy" of Joe the Plumber, we are Joe the Plumber!  We think like he does.  We aren't rich but we don't resent those who are.  Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Dee, I have never denied

Dee,

I have never denied my liberalism, I simply fight tooth and nail when someone uses it to lump me in with the DailyKos crowd.

I don't believe I've ever made fun of Palin's accent per se.  What I find nauseating is not the fact of her rural, down-home personality, but the way that it was being modulated into THE reason that she should be vice president.  To say I was rejecting her for those aspect is as legitimate as saying all those who don't vote for Obama are racist.  Doesn't it seem a little more likely that I was rejecting her because, ya know, she'd be a disastrous leader?  Oh well, moot point, she won't be getting anywhere near Washington.  The entirety of Canada seems like a pretty safe lunatic-buffer.

We are not falling for the "ploy" of Joe the Plumber, we are Joe the Plumber!  We think like he does.

Dee....that is EXACTLY my point.

But anyway, this is all in the past now.  Especially since Obama has, at least according to Bush's 2004 logic, what we might call a "mega-mandate."

Cheers.

"The family values response, unless it is combined with a radical renunciation of all aspects of modern society, is not an authentic alternative.  In fact, its promise of the spoils of modernity without its requisite disruption of tradition and authority simply repeats the promise of fascism..."

Palin, McCain & Joe the

Palin, McCain & Joe the Plumber never claimed by any stretch that
Joe's beliefs represented all Plumbers or all Joe six-packs.

You're kidding, right?

Where's your link Balboa? If they said it you should have one

I'll be waiting... and waiting..... and waiting....

You have no substance, only meaningless platitudes & snarky remarks that have no substance.  You care about pop culture and pop culture only.  If the media and Hollywood imply something - you believe it.  You probably think Bush called people unpatriotic too.  Never happened.

Dee, you guys claim to be

Dee, you guys claim to be the party of Joe Six Pack, Joe the Plumber. He's YOUR guy. He's been a symbol of your party.

Where is the hate for the people in Obama's commercial balboa?

You liberals are such hate filled people.  You have no standards of decency and any smear can be justified.  You better hope you always agree with your dear leader Obama if he wins.

If he wins, and you later disagree with him, be prepared, even you the little guy can be attacked  and smeared with impunity.  That's some change we can believe in- woo hoo!   The little guy can be smeared just as much as the powerful politicians and celebrities - that's equality!

It's amazing the horrible

It's amazing the horrible things you can say about someone you don't know.

The "little guy" was "smeared" because you set him up as some paragon of blue collar virtue. Don't float that giant balloon if you don't want people to poke holes in it.

You didn't answer the question balboa

Don't worry - I knew you couldn't - there is no answer for the disparity, except that Conservatives are not as vicious and hateful as you and your ilk.

I can guarantee you that if people delved into personal details of some person asking a Republican a question, I wouldn't condone it.  It's not like it was a raving lunatic like the ones who illegally break into the Republican convention spewing hate or to McCain rallies trying to derail them.  Even those people were not investigated and attacked.  If Joe the Plumber had done something like those hate filled liberal protesters, I could see it.  He didn't.
You are really sick for justifying it.  You liberals are all the same.  No decency & no moral compass.  The ends justify the means no matter how nasty. Very very sad - I can't believe my son has to grow up in a world like this

Not justifying: explaining.

Not justifying: explaining. I'm sorry that you hate liberals so much that you feel you need to make blanket assumptions of everyone to the left of Dubyah. Maybe after the election's over you'll be more reasonable.

Reasonable like you balboa? Lol

You still didn't answer the question.  I guess that's the reasonable route -bury your head in the sand or stick your fingers in your ears.  Avoid all the facts and just chant "Yes We Can!"

You go boy!

I don't hate liberals but I don't respect them and I hate their sleazy tactics that justify attacking Palin (for her personality, accent and personal life) and Joe the Plumber for any reason.  It's very sick and twisted and I have no respect for anyone who justifies it.

Don't give me this explaining crap either - I don't need an explanation - that's obvious - he threatened your messiah.  You are justifying pure and simple.

As for after the election, I have no doubt that you liberals will be just as nasty no matter who wins. It will be louder and more prevalent if McCain wins, but you'll be taking out your hate on more regular people when you don't have any public Republicans to hate on.

slightly wrong Dee

you'll be taking out your hate on more regular people when you don't have any public Republicans to hate on.

They will continue the drumbeat of "Sarah Palin is a stupid diva" to stop her from rising in 2012 and then, having sufficiently disarmed her, they will turn their sights on Bobby Jindal to destroy him next. Given the open sexism we've seen against Palin I expect the attacks on Jindal to be racist, even as they berate us nonstop as racists for criticizing Obama.

Hating regular people like Joe the Plumber will just be something they do for fun.

It's truly Sad Candance

I'm very depressed at how such hatefulness is completely acceptable and normal now.  There is no right and wrong anymore. Even if McCain wins (which I'm still holding faith for).

I have to admit that a while back there was a part of me that secretly hoped for Obama to win so that we wouldn't have to hear the constant drum beat of hate. If he does win, it will get better for a while, but these hateful people will need an outlet for their frustrations and since they won't be able to attack any Republican's, they will go further and further left until they've attacked anyone who doesn't join "the party" Any troubles will be blamed on those who haven't signed on.

I don't know where the hate

I don't know where the hate is for the people in Obama's commercial.

Obama is not my messiah. I've never thought of him that way. Joe never threatened anything to me.

Bingo Balboa - You answered the question and got it right!

There was no hate for those people.  You can't find it.  That is the point!

no balboa

We did not set Joe up as anything. Both Obama and McCain spoke about him in that debate.

Government officials in Ohio unethically snoop on a citizen's private affairs and a radio host openly calls for Joe to be assassinated....but it's our fault that happened because we promoted him.

Nice to know how things work in the New America.

I don't approve of that

I don't approve of that moron radio host any more than you do.

OIC

When Dee mentioned the attacks against him you shrugged and said it was all our fault, and now when presented with evidence of what that entailed, you suddenly admit it was over the line.

Your party loyalty is showing.

The attacks were

The attacks were inevitable. The level of ugliness from some, including that radio host, was over the line.

JasonC... a POMPOUS slut :p

"Why don't you go write some more pseudo-techno love songs for youtube?"

Hahaha... We've missed you around here, Jason. Are you poking your head back in just for November 4th?

FYI - I write the love songs, my European producers add the techno touches, and they're from the home of techno, Europe, so they're pretty authentic, if you ask me.

so let's see...

...the only good anti-gay-marriage people and Creationists are the ones who don't voice their opinions??? So we should just not give our opinions (unless, of course, they meet with your approval)???

And drilling for oil is a very real solution to a very real problem, one that has rather suddenly and mysteriously gone underground for the passed few weeks (one may wonder why), but that has not truly left us. We have the resources to make our much less dependent on foreign oil, but it is leacheral tree-and-caribou huggers who have made laws which forbid us access to those resources.

Palin made her point quite well, she's ready to go and get those resources.

I can.

Can I reserve an epithet at your restaurant, please? A single stool at the counter will be fine for now since I encourage the teaching of the theory of evolution, but gay marriage is just...kinda' gay. Don't ask, don't tell, works just fine in most cases. Sarah Palin is right about basically everything. Obama is not stupid. He is wrong about practicaly everything except his stance on gay marriage.

No representation, without taxation!

"Don't Ask Don't Tell": a

"Don't Ask Don't Tell": a lovely little euphemism for 'OK, you can be gay so long as no straight person has to be offended by having even the slightest awareness of it.'  In other words, gay people are made third-class citizens.

Who would have dreamed that when socialism came to the U.S.A.
it would be brought not by Bolsheviks in blue jeans but Wall Street

Jason

There were Homosexuals in the military when I was in. They didn't make passes at us and everything went well. If they had been like the homosexuals of today pitching fits and screaming "You have to approve of my degeneracy", they would have been drummed out. I don't use the term "gay" because as a group homosexuals are the most unhappy, vindictive, unpleasant people alive today.

They are not "made" anything.

Some are wanting to "make" marriage, something it is not.

No representation, without taxation!

It's unintentionally

It's unintentionally hilarious to realize how narrow minded and mean spirited these self-proclaimed open minded and tolerant liberals really are. Many of them reveal, by their words and actions, the utter contempt for the "poor" and "working class" that they claim to champion. In the end, it's all a game of pretense to make them feel better about themselves and their irrational and unworkable political and social philosophy.

McNotObama '08

CN, you are absolutely

CN,

you are absolutely right about everything except for one thing.  Liberal socialist elitists don't champion the poor and down-trodden so that they will feel good about themselves.  Political and social philosophies as concerning poverty and inequality are meaningless to them.

Their upward mobility is an assured thing for them and they know it.  On the other hand, YOUR upward mobility will never happen, and they know that too. Case in point: how many ultra-wealthy celebutards, hollywoodenheads, and prostitute politicians would be willing to give up their creature comforts so they can be equal to the "little guy"?

It all smells of bullsh*t.

HOW do these braindead fringe nutballs like Malloy and Maddow gravitate to major networks?

NOLI PUGNARE ME OCCIDERE

chasvs

A couple young  Black female Obama supporters at a recent rally told a white McCain supporter that he was "Going to have to work his white ass off to support them once Obama got elected"!

Boy, are they in for a surprise when obama kills all the jobs that support them now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe George Clooney will

Maybe George Clooney will make a new movie: "Obama Where Art Thou?"

Who needs jobs with a

Who needs jobs with a cradle-to-grave welfare state Obama is planning?

LMAO!

I f*cking agree!

"Nuke 'em 'til they... oh hell, just shoot 'em!"

Malloy breathes out his

Malloy breathes out his vagina

What if Rush said it??

I think the most important thing here in terms of bias is the repeated attempts by Sanchez to get agreement that Malloy was transferring HIS use of the "invective queer" onto Republicans even though he used the word.

He, being the liberal, get all the benefit of the doubt and no harm, no foul.

Had Rush said it, it would be "proof positive" that Rush was a bigot.

How Will Obama Find Osama

Barack Obama cannot find his birth certificate.

Obama cannot find his Aunt who is an illegal alien.

Obama didn't know his brother was living in poverty.

Obama after 20 years of Mentoring by Jeremiah 'God Damn America' Wright, Obama didn't know what his personally hand picked Mentor taught.

Obama followed Farrakhan to Wash. Dc - helping to organize the 'Million Man March' and then awarded (along with Mentor Wright) Farakhan with a 'Lifetime Achievment Award' and didn't know Farrakhan was a racist,

Obama doesn't know when life begins.

Obama thought Bill Ayers was a 'Recovered Terrorist'.

Barack Obama promises he will find Osama Bin Laden - he can't even find his Aunt.

Obama...why you?

Bottom line RG:

Obama didn't know $H#t!

Vote McCain-Palin 08!

Oh my!!

When the country is in danger from foreign aggression the pinky extenders WANT the knuckle draggers to defend the country.

Otherwise the pinky extenders, these panty wearers, have only contempt and derision for us.

We'll be here when ya need us ya sissy's!!

Mouth breathers sound off!!

First off, not all

First off, not all educators are whiny lib pu***ies.  Or maybe I'm the only one.  Whatever.  Second, his statement can be boiled down to:

"you don't like obama??? well you're just a stupid-head!!!!"

And explain how "plugs" biden is a better VP pick!  I got 3 letters for ya!  J-O-B-S!  That'll make you want to stand up, won't it??

Lord, Help Us!

Lord, Help Us!

I'd rather be a "knuckle-dragger" than a spineless bowl of unconsious jelly, like most liberals are, given the choice!

Is today going to be the day the Constitution dies?

I guess I'm not too positive about the chances of a Barry-defeat. Or, ST. Barry, should I say.

Liberals are certifiably unAmerican and traitors for throwing the country under the bus with Barry the Terrorists' Buddy and his Fascist Friends around the world!

Mike Malloy is nuts

In the evenings, if I am driving, I switch to our Air America affiliate during commercials for very brief comic relief.

Mike Malloy is nuts. Period.

Nobody listens to him so you don't hear about him much, but he is nuts.

CNN only cares about

CNN only cares about 'queers' being said on air but the rest of the hatred and slander is A-OK???

It's continually shocking how far away from any sense of decency or balance these media fatheads can observe.  Only certain words which are derogatory of the Left even catch their attention while words like 'knuckledraggers' and 'crazies' go utterly unnoticed.

Mike is an a-hole

This is the response I got from Mr. Malloy. Apparently he does take the time to read his e-mail.

get off my email, asshole. i don't like getting shit from jerks whose parents were drunks. scram.

How eloquent. How urbane. This man is clearly a literary giant.

Of course I did bait him a bit by calling him a walking toilet brush. But then I'm just a knuckle dragger.

Americans are far more remarkable than we give ourselves credit for. We've been so busy damning ourselves for years. We've done it all, and yet we don't take credit for it.
