CNN Hypes Hillary's 'Career Year' As a 'Reasoned Politician'

CNN’s senior political correspondent Candy Crowley, in an early birthday gift of a report on Thursday’s "The Situation Room," reported that Hillary Clinton’s 2007 was a "so far, so great career year" and was "dedicated to flexing her foreign policy muscle, while reshaping her public image from humorless, wild-eyed liberal to a approachable, reasoned politician." This "wild-eyed liberal" line is an example of the mainstream media only resorting to use the "dreaded ‘L’ word" to reject the reality of her consistently liberal record.

In addition to the obligatory Hillary file footage and sound bites, Doug Hattaway, the campaign spokesman for Gore/Lieberman in 2000 gushed "I think this really long campaign season has really benefitted Senator Clinton. It's given voters a chance to see her for who she really is, not some caricature created by the right-wing attack machine." Hattaway continued, "In the debates, she's been commanding. On the trail, she's been very personable. And that's a really powerful combination."

The report, which aired 41 minutes into the 4 pm Eastern hour of "The Situation Room" also reported some incredulous results from the latest CNN/Opinion Research poll. Apparently, 68 percent of those polled see Mrs. Clinton as "a strong leader," 63 percent find her "likeable," 61 percent "believe she can work with both parties," and 57 percent "say she cares about people."

Crowley reported that the only bad news from the poll was the "striking" difference between men and women with regards to Hillary. "Asked, for instance, if they admire Clinton, 57 percent of women said yes. That is 15 points higher than men. Does she share your values? Fifty-five percent of women said yes. And that's compared, Wolf, to only 45 percent of men." The CNN correspondent that this was a challenge for her [Hillary’s] 61st year."

A full transcript of the report from Thursday’s "The Situation Room:"

WOLF BLITZER: She's a senator and a Democratic presidential front-runner, but, in a matter of hours, Americans can call Hillary Clinton something else -- a 60-year-old. We have some brand-new poll numbers to mark this occasion. Let's bring in our senior political correspondent, Candy Crowley. So, how's the senator, the Democratic presidential front-runner, celebrating?

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: She will celebrate this evening on the eve of her birthday, which is tomorrow, up in New York. She be will be feted by her husband, comedian Bill Crystal, and singer Elvis Costello, among others. It is a million-dollar bash. And that's not the cost of it. That's the take for her campaign coffers. The gifts just keep on coming.

CROWLEY (voice-over): Sixty years old, a mile-marker birthday in a so far, so great career year for Hillary Clinton, the consistent Democratic front-runner.

SEN. HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON (D-NY), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Now, I have noticed that, the last couple of weeks, I have been getting a lot of attention from the men in this race. And, at first, you know, I didn't know what to make of it. And then, a good friend of mine said, you know, when you get to be our age, having that much attention from all these men...

CROWLEY: It is vintage Clinton 2007, a year dedicated to flexing her foreign policy muscle, while reshaping her public image from humorless, wild-eyed liberal to a approachable, reasoned politician.

DOUG HATTAWAY, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: I think this really long campaign season has really benefitted Senator Clinton. It's given voters a chance to see her for who she really is, not some caricature created by the right-wing attack machine.

CROWLEY: It has brought her many happy returns. The latest CNN/Opinion Research poll of registered voters shows 68 percent see Clinton as a strong leader. Sixty-three percent find her likable. Sixty-one percent believe she can work with both parties. Fifty-seven percent say she cares about people.

HATTAWAY: In the debates, she's been commanding. On the trail, she's been very personable. And that's a really powerful combination.

CROWLEY: She has shaken off her yes-vote on the Iraq war, weathered fundraising problems, and stiff-armed current questions on her approach to Iran. Not to say Clinton can blow out the candles and call it a day. When it comes to issues, honesty, shared values, and admiration, voters are split, in large part because Clinton is viewed far more favorably by women than by men, a challenge for her 61st year.

CROWLEY (on-camera): That male/female gap is striking on down the line. Asked, for instance, if they admire Clinton, 57 percent of women said yes. That is 15 points higher than men. Does she share your values? Fifty-five percent of women said yes. And that's compared, Wolf, to only 45 percent of men.

BLITZER: And remember what her husband, Bill Clinton, said when he turned 60 a year or so ago. He said, remember, 60, he said, is the new 40.

CROWLEY: Absolutely.

BLITZER: All right. Candy, thanks very much.

Reality

Apparently, 68 percent of those polled see Mrs. Clinton as "a strong leader," 63 percent find her "likeable," 61 percent "believe she can work with both parties," and 57 percent "say she cares about people."

Well, it's nice to see television finally get away from all that "reality TV" crap they've been pushing out the past few years.

I wanna know who they

I wanna know who they polled. Must have been an omission there somewhere. Maybe it should read, "....registered democrat voters...". They just left out the "democrat" in their report.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

They sure didn't poll

They sure didn't poll themselves, or it would have been 100% in all categories.

This does, however, indicate how fearful they are that her extremely high negatives will doom her candidacy...

Remember, the MSM didn't start pushing One-Eyed Willy until after he got the nomination...

They're getting started early with Hitlery because, 1) they want her to be the nominee, and 2) She can't win the General Election as herself - she needs to be packaged as someone other than the Bitch from Hell that she is.

A CNN Opinion Poll is

A CNN Opinion Poll is highly unreliable.

And even if it is somewhat true, how many negative Hillary commercials have we seen to date yet? Wait till the general election and the country is made to recall who Hillary really is and not this massive snow job her handlers and the MSN have perpetrated.

Can you

Can you just imagine;;;;I wonder what the dollar figure would be, in campaign funds, for the Republicans to counter-balance all of the free, positive campaign exposure that the MSM gives the democrats? When you pile on top of that, all the additional positive exposure that dems get from our universites and colleges and Hollywood and on and on and on. The entire MSM is nothing but the Democrat National Committee commercials, 24/7. It really makes you wonder HOW IN HEAVEN'S NAME CAN ANY REPUBLICAN EVER GET ELECTED OR HOW HAVE THEY EVER???

THEN, the dems cry foul over a couple of Conservative talk show host and ONE FAIR & BALANCED TV channel.

If you want to find sensible conservative dogma being discussed today, you have to go to Church. Not a bad idea.

What CNN didn't tell you is

What CNN didn't tell you is that the "CNN Poll" shows:

37% of Democrats do not like her

39% of Democrats find her partisan

41% of Democrats believe it will be politics as usual

43% say she is only out for herself

The only muscle she is flexing is the hand muscles endorsing the back of checks.

If anything, she is all about money and power.

If I looked as bad as Bill

If I looked as bad as Bill does I'd say 60 is the new 80.

OMG... I saw this

OMG...

I saw this yesterday...I about threw up and clicked it as soon as I could get to the clicker, but saw/heard most of the desperate lying they are doing about getting Hillary elected.

You can sugar-coat her all you want, she is still nothing but the devil in disguise.

Poll all you want...she is toast.

BT, Boy, they sure have

BT,

Boy, they sure have dropped Obama as the candidate who walks on water, haven't they? Like a hot rock. He's yesterday's news. If the GOP had a candidate who was such a sure thing to get the nomination, you can bet that, instead of sitting there, oohing and aahing over his "attributes", they'd be busy firing their arrows at him.

Exactly

Exactly Chris...exactly.

Hypocrites...give them time, they will be slinging those arrows over whoever the GOP picks, instead of the top tier...mostly Rudy, Fred and Romney so far.

Scrolling back to earlier

Scrolling back to earlier today, I saw the post on NBC going after Giuliani. I guess they've decided he's the one who needs to be knocked down by them this week.

Chris, I didn't listen to

Chris,

I didn't listen to much television today...glad of it too.

As for the msm thinking they can reshape Hillary for the masses out there...they are dumber than I thought they were.

Talk about rose-colored glasses...

Here's a statistic they missed

Another poll this week came out that said that fifty percent of the American public would not vote for Hilary in the general election. More than a few outlets commented on this poll. Where in this story do they talk about that statistic? And yet, they fail to understand why anyone with any sense sees them as the liberal shills that they are. Further, they don't think that we can't see the strings leading from their sock puppet selves back to the Clintons? I don't know what makes me crazier, their absolute loyalty or their Emporer's new clothing attitude about it.

I believe the poll said that

I believe the poll said that 50% of the American public would not vote for Hillary under any circumstance.  Contrary to flattering media portrayals, the Slickster was NOT popular.  He never won 50% of the popular vote and needed Ross Perot wedging the Republican vote to "earn" his dubious victories.  Watch for Kamp Klinton to bait someone like Dobson into putting up a 3rd Party Candidate...enabling her to win without a majority.

CNN/Opinion Research

CNN/Opinion Research poll.  That says it all.  No doubt they pulled the LA Times scam of oversampling Democrats...hell, I'm sure all the respondents were Democrats.

By the way, when you have to polish a turd like Hillary Clinton this much (e.g. having a DNC PR hack like Doug Hattaway spouting talking points and platitudes without fielding tough questions), you know your campaign is, in reality, sputtering.  Clinton has her Kool-Aid drinkers who present her as likeable and unbeatable, but most people hate her.  She can NEVER overcome that.

And Candy Crowley's flattering praise only comes from the fact that Hillary let her eat all the birthday cake.

Coffee-sputtering alert

Again, to the editors of Newsbusters, you really need to issue warnings against having food or beverages in your mouth before reading some of these items. When I read this piece, I sputtered coffee all over the place.

"It's given voters a chance to see her for who she really is ..."

Her campaign has been designed to prevent any serious challenge. We're bombarded by the image they poll-tested, including the cackle at any difficult question. Tell me the last challenge she faced? Tell me the last hard question she faced in person, and couldn't run away from?

  • "Well, she survived the debates." Yeah, but this is why I'm against this whole debate nonsense. It isn't a debate at all, and the questions are so easy to escape. But then the campaign portrays the debates as challenges when they're not.
  • How about a reporter asking her if she was willing to claim, without reservation, that no one in her campaign or anyone connected to her organization gathered funds fraudulently from the Chinese coterie around her campaign?
  • How about asking her whether she has ever managed an organization where the members weren't Clinton worshipers, and she had to motivate groups of people instead of threatening them individually? She has no management experience at all. And if she claims that management experience isn't necessary, then ask her to explain why Bush should be criticized for Katrina?

She hasn't faced a tough question in years. We don't know who she is because she won't face controvery or challenge, and that's the only time you see someone's true character.

   Yeah well there were

Yeah well there were lots of gushing reports on pelosi too.  Who is pelosi you say?  She's now the crazy grandma in the attic.

Even if hillary gets in she won't be able to do what she wants to do because this country is more conservative than the moon-bats.  Billy lost control of congress and so will hillary right after her first job killing tax increases.  Plus if we are attacked and she doesn't fight like a man (i.e. GWB) it will be a long time before another woman is elected.

Approachable?

"dedicated to flexing her foreign policy muscle, while reshaping her public image from humorless, wild-eyed liberal to a approachable, reasoned politician."

They must have a different dictionary than I do.  Under NO circumstances can anyone define Hillary as approachable.  She snaps at anyone who dares challenge her or ask her a question.  She refuses to allow herself to be questioned by the electorate.  The few times it has happened she has accused them of being 'sent' by some nefarious 'someone'.  No, approachable is not a word you could use to define Hillary.
