Open Thread: Unintentionally Hilarious Trailer for Pro-Obama Movie

By Matt Vespa | July 13, 2012 | 11:20

Matt Vespa's picture

It's Friday, so what better way to kick off the weekend than a hilarious trailer promoting an over-the-top pro-Obama movie.  Judging by the 2:30-long trailer for The Obama Effect, the movie, set in 2008, is the fictional account of a man named John (played by Charles S. Dutton) who suffers a heart attack and discovers he's spared death because he has a mission from God: campaigning for Barack Obama.   No, I'm serious. The promoters of the film cast it as a comedy, but it's NOT a satire. It really does appear to be a serious movie.

Watch the trailer embedded below page the page break and leave your comments behind. For inspiration, you can check out this hilarious collection from Twitchy.

Judging by the trailer, this is the long-and-short of the plot. Upon seeing Obama delivering his sweet promises of an American Candyland, John quits his white collar job and builds a shrine to the Obamamessiah in his house to the point where the inimitable Senator for Illinois has become the wall paper.  He pimps out his van with all the Obama slogans and tries to convince his undecided Hispanic neighbor to vote for Obama because he's an awesome guy.  He pesters local hair salon patrons, urging the ladies to be on the right side of history (whatever that means) and finally, as The Blaze noted, finds meaning in his life.  By the way, you should check out The Blaze's complete analysis of this Oscar-worthy film.

I guess working hard to have what appears to be a good-paying job, a beautiful wife, and a spacious home didn't cut it for John until Barack Obama entered his meaningless life.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Now, perhaps the trailer was edited a bit deceptively and the plot is a little more complex and twisted than it suggests. Moviemakers have been known to do that bait-and-switch. But even so, it's hard to imagine the actual movie is going to in any way be critical of President Obama and how his "hope and change" haven't panned out as oh so many hoped.

Condoleeza Rice for V.P.?

Submitted by James3 on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 11:39am.

I'm attempting to ''hijack'' this thread because i'm concerned about the latest rumor about Condi Rice being Romney's V.P. choice. I want to get your thoughts on this if it turns out to be fact. I have mixed feelings about this. I somewhat feel that this is a ''hail mary'' at a time when he doesn't really need one. On the plus side, she could help pick up votes from women and the black community, and she is well spoken, well known, and strong in foreign policy.A veteran player. On the downside, the dems and MSM will jump all over this choice as ''well, here you go....more George Bush''...and accuse Romney of ''playing the race and gender card'' by intentionally picking a black female running mate. Personally i'm against this pick...I would LOVE to here any and all thoughts from the people that frequent NB. Thank You in advance...

From what I can tell she is wish washy on abortion. It don't matter who he picks they are going to trashes by the LSM.

I think she'd be great, James

Submitted by Blonde on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 12:19pm.

Her foreign policy creds trump all else, IMO. And to my way of thinking, capping Bin Laden is NOT foreign policy. It's an insanely stupid thing to say "I got Bin Laden, so I have foreign policy chops". Obama started a war in Libya, lost Egypt, turned a blind eye to Syria, provoked and insulted our ally Israel, and has provoked Iran to the point of striking the match that may ignite the entire Middle East.

Condi's views on abortion are not that important in the overall scheme of things, IMO. Mitt, who is at the top of the ticket, is pro-life....which trumps her stance. If she accepts, she'll have to either drop her own view and support his, or be quiet about it. Don't get me wrong, it is an important issue, but the VP's personal view on it doesn't really matter in the overall picture.

A Condi pick (and a woman beside) would trump Obama's race charges. If Romney picks TPaws, or someone similar, we get a double dose of vanilla. My concern there is really a double dose of non-conservative, or CINOs.

I'd rather see Romney make the bold choice of a hard core conservative like Allen West. But he won't, West is viewed by the Romney campaign as a Palinesque (read desperate and too bold) choice.

I think Marco Rubio would be a good pick, but I really think Marco doesn't want to do it yet....he's only turned 41 and has 4 very young children. Also, he's got a stellar career in the Senate going, and if we take that house.....he'll get some important leadership role. I think right now he has a bigger hammer in the Senate.

So, you asked, those are my thoughts.

Bottom line, Condi Rice would be win/win. And if something were to happen to Mitt....our enemies would fear her as they feared Ronald Reagan. THAT is the real winner in the deal.

[Edit] We'd be getting creme de la creme as far as areas of expertise, Mitt for his business/economic experience, and Condi for her foreign policy expertise.

BONUS ANSWER: Condi vs. Joe Biden debate. I'd pay to see that.

I could live with Condi.

Submitted by c5then on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 12:58pm.

Like you I would much prefer West.

Condi brings a little too much interventionist thought for my liking, but is definitely qualified.

Incidentally, I think that Rubio has to be out of the running because of the "Natural Born Citizen" issue in the Constitution. We've already ignored that once, I wouldn't want the GOP to ignore it too. Besides, if it was a (R) who had the issue, I'm sure that there would be 2,543 Federal judges willing to render a summary judgement immediately.

We've been around the block about Rubio's "NBC" status

Submitted by Blonde on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 1:32pm.

I think he is, but I understand why many think he's not. But as you say, it matters not what we think, it matters what a judge says.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Romney campaign is floating these trial balloons to judge the Obots' reaction(s) to them. Romney's campaign staff is getting sharper, fast....they are counterpunching and scoring some heavy hits of late, I am liking it.

So I'm seeing a bit of preparation of the battlefield, as Allen West would say. He's my guy all the way, but after the way I've been bitterly disappointed numerous times this year (Romney, Supremes)....I'm not even going to hope.

I was hoping for Rand Paul, but could certainly get enthused about Condi. Brilliant woman. Great international credentials which is a perceived weak area for Romney. I think she'd be a good fit and could easily be the next President after Romney.

Show him collecting his unemployment, food stamps, talking on his Obamaphone, driving a subsidized Volt, etc., etc. And then rack up the $$$ that we, the taxpayers, are providing them.

Submitted by Captain Repus on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 1:04pm.

As a certified racist (and homophobe) my views are naturally shaded in these areas but I think this movie only further stereotypes the black population in our country. My (large) circle of black friends/associates don't wear bling, speak in a dialect like offspring of Beulah and Amos and Andy, are open-minded politically and don't blindly vote for the sugar-daddy, don't sell drugs for a living, aren't all seven feet tall and able to touch a ten foot high rim and don't have a mission of impregnating as many single black women as humanly possible.

I guess you could paint me as a 'selective' racist.

I agree with many of your thoughts on Condi. Bottom line, she's incredibly smart and capable with foreign policy (although I wasn't always pleased with her in the Bush years), but she's not the conservative VP I've been hoping for the ticket. Some proclaim she could be the "gamechanger" we need, but I can also see it backfiring. History says the VP choice matters little, but in this election, everything is mattering for me.

Unvarnished truth: I just really want O out, so whatever works -- wish we had a psychic conservative. ;) But none of us know what the VP "secret combo" is (and the media and polls aren't helpful in understanding the voting landscape out there). And, of course, no VP will be "perfect" anyway, because the media will aggressively go after any VP choice -- for any tiny thing. I just hope Romney has the wisdom to know what to do.

P.S. Juan Williams wrote an opinion piece on why Condi's an absolutely perfect pick, if that helps. LOL.
