Ted Nugent Explodes at CBS After Suggestion That He Is Extreme
In an interview that aired on Friday's CBS This Morning, conservative rocker Ted Nugent let loose at CBS correspondent Jeff Glor when Glor suggested he was extreme. "I'm an extremely loving, passionate man, and people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I'm a damn nice guy," he ranted before unleashing a torrent of profanity.
CBS was aghast at conservative rocker Ted Nugent's on-camera outburst during an exclusive interview, but the same network treated profane comedian Bill Maher like the voice of reason when it read from his op-ed back on March 22. [Video below the break. Audio here.]
"We have no idea where that unexpected outburst came from," Glor claimed in surprise. "Kind of stunned us. Stunned our producer." Anchor Charlie Rose preached that Nugent should change his act if he wants to be remembered for his charity towards the youth.
However, perhaps CBS ignored its own hand in provoking of Nugent when Glor suggested that Nugent was extreme. "If Mitt Romney is to win, he needs at least some of the moderate vote," Glor told Nugent. "You are many things," he continued, pausing for effect before adding "You are not moderate."
In contrast, CBS held HBO's Bill Maher in much higher regard when it deemed his op-ed so important that they read an excerpt from it on-air, back in March. In the column, Maher slammed the public for being too sensitive to criticism – even though he had repeatedly spewed obscene and hateful verbiage at conservative women.
And that was shortly after Maher had donated $1 million to President Obama's super PAC. CBS didn't mention that he was an Obama donor, however. They made sure to report that Mitt Romney "courted" and received the endorsement of Nugent and asked Nugent about it in the interview.
So CBS took umbrage at conservative Ted Nugent's profane outburst, but gave Maher a microphone to tell people to calm down after he had repeatedly insulted women with the worst of insults. It reveals a double standard toward outspoken conservatives and liberals; CBS made sure to emphasize that Nugent is not a moderate, and yet treated the profane Maher like the voice of reason.
A partial transcript of the interview, which aired on May 4 on CBS This Morning at 7:30 a.m. EDT, is as follows:
[7:30]
JEFF GLOR, CBS This Morning special correspondent: Ted Nugent is loud, non-stop, never at a loss for words. He's also politically influential. Mitt Romney courted his endorsement and got it. And as we discovered firsthand during a visit to his Texas ranch, Nugent is ramping up the rhetoric again.
(...)
[7:33]
GLOR: April was one of the more interesting months I think you ever had.
NUGENT: Well, Jeff, that's where you're wrong. It's always been like this.
GLOR: It has not always been like this.
NUGENT: It has always been like this!
GLOR: You have gotten more boisterous.
(Crosstalk)
NUGENT: No way! It has always been – you go back and look at these interviews, it has always been like this!
GLOR: Politically speaking, you are more of an activist now than you were in 1970.
NUGENT: The political activism is being accelerated because the conditions demand accelerated activism, yes.
(...)
GLOR: If Mitt Romney is to win, he needs at least some of the moderate vote. You are many things. (Pause) You are not moderate.
NUGENT: But not – not very moderate. (Laughter)
GLOR: You are not moderate.
NUGENT: If you examine how I conduct myself, I don't think a day goes by in my life for many, many years now that we don't do charity work for children. I offer you this, have you done a lot of interviews?
GLOR: Decent number.
NUGENT: Call me when you sit down across from someone who has more families with dying little boys and girls who get a call to take them on their last fishing trip in life. Call me when you meet someone who does that more than I do. Because that's really moderate. In fact, you know what that is? That's extreme. I'm an extremely loving, passionate man, and people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I'm a damn nice guy. And If can you find a screening process more powerful than that, I'll [ bleep]. Or [bleep]! How's that sound?
GLOR: We have no idea where that unexpected outburst came from.
(...)
GLOR: We released the Romney clip on our website yesterday and the Romney campaign responded by re-releasing a statement saying "Divisive language and offensive and inappropriate, no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from. Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil. Not exactly the most stinging rebuke from the Romney campaign. And Ted feels that he didn't sleight them at all."
CHARLIE ROSE: Why did he go off like that?
GLOR: It’s a good question. Very good question. Kind of stunned us. Stunned our producer. His wife, a very sweet woman, did come in after the interview ended. Interview went on for ten minutes after this explosion. She said, Ted, you need to apologize to Molly.
HILL: Molly, your producer?
GLOR: And he did. He did. At first he started to back off after he apologized, then he delivered a full apology. And we went on. Yesterday he called me on the phone, after we got back to New York, and said, after our interview that he was rushed to the emergency room and had a kidney stone removed. So, that's what he said may have contributed to his high level of energy.
ROSE: When he said it's always been like this, what did he mean?
GLOR: He meant that he's always been provocative, he’s always been loud, he’s always caused controversy.
ROSE: Has he always called the President and the Secretary of State criminals?
GLOR: No. No. And that's why I pointed that out to him. And I think he acknowledged he's upped the activism and that's why the Secret Service went to visit him.
ROSE: Yeah, you know if someone cares about being known for doing things for the little kids, the better way to do that is not to talk about other people being criminals.
(Crosstalk)
GLOR: Yep. I think it’s a very good point. I think it’s a very good point.

I get this same double standard in my family. When one of the uber libs in my family mouths off too loud they are forgiven for the fact that they are so very "passionate" about their beliefs. When I do the same thing I am called a loud-mouthed bore. Apparently, possessing civility and wisdom requires a membership.

I watched this video clip this morning, and I say 'way to go' to the Motor City Madman for letting this little dweeb know where he's coming from....................these StateRun Media twerps more often than not don't have the slightest idea of what they are talking about, or who they're talking to...............it serves this guy right to have his face melted by Nugie!!! And I saw a pretty good clip a couple of weeks ago of Uncle Ted squashing that pommie prick Long Walk/Short Piers Morgan under his cowboy boots like some scurrying cockroach!!!
You go get'um, Ted!!! We need more people like you - front and center - guys who actually have balls, and aren't afraid to prove it..................and I don't mean any disrespect to the women either, because we've got a lot of women who show a helluva lot more testicular fortitude than most of our so-called 'leaders'!!!

And what's your point, balboa??? I think Nugent pretty much let this queebie know how wrong he was - and I'd probably say something similiar to anybody who said that about me. I've probably done more community service, youth sports volunteerism, team sponsership, time donation, and all that type of thing in my own little world than TEN of the self-absorbed, all-about-me libs that I know over here in my part of Asia/Hawaii.................yet they would all consider me to be some kind of a 'right-wing extremist whacko racist bigoted intolerant whatever....................although I'm a helluva lot nicer and easy to get along with than any of them.
We need more people on 'our side' telling these StateRun Media dimwits what is REALLY going on, instead of just sitting there like little toadstools and accepting the bullsh*t that they keep trying to present us with.

where community service comes into play-in Nugent's freak out or in your post. What about calling someone "not a moderate" implies that they don't give to their community? No one was making that implication and it has nothing to do with political alignment.
OK, then define 'moderate'
Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 8:29pm.
OK, then define 'moderate' for me.................I'm just a country boy blue-collar worker - I figured that it was the 'moderates' and the 'liberals' who were the only ones who 'cared' about people and did things for them - WITHOUT being told to, or WITHOUT having some laws MAKING them do it??? You've gotta get me up to speed here, Bos...................I'm just flailin' (Obamaspeak) over here without a 'moral compass'.
Actually, if some dope told me I wasn't a 'moderate', I'd tell him he's right.
Well, yeah
Submitted by BosTarus on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 8:45pm.
that's probably what you'd say... because that's a reasonable response to the sentence "you're not a moderate". So why couldn't Nugent? Didn't quite deserve a profanity-laced outburst. Wasn't too much of an insult.
And maybe someone else has made this connection, but liberals and "moderates" don't have a monopoly on "caring" for people... and even if some people have implied as much, the interviewer certainly wasn't trying to imply that Nugent never gave back to his community by asking him how Romney could win the votes of moderates.
Anyway, if some jerk liberal has implied that you'd never do community service because of you're political leaning, then I apologize. But I'm certainly not one to make assumptions about anyone's capacity for caring based solely on political viewpoints. The two are extremely unrelated.
I think that when this

I think that when this purported 'journalist' made the 'moderate' question personal to Nugent, that is what set him off. I've got to hand it to Uncle Ted for putting himself in these positions with these dip-sh*ts................and still being able to 'hold his own', and not compromise to their dumb mentality. Most 'Republicans' and conservatives don't seem to have the onions to do that, for fear of being 'politically incorrect'.....................I have a lot more respect for the ones who just lay it on the line.

If being honest is viewed as an 'insult', Bos - then I guess I'm guilty as hell. Apparantly you haven't paid too much attention to Boy Baraka and his various (and highly affected) styles of speaking.................and all I'm doing is pointing out one of those affected styles that he uses when he is talkin' to a particular segment of the 'folks'. And I'm not 'implyin' anything - what is there to imply?? Baraka is a phony as a 3-dollar bill, and I'm going to point it out at every chance I get. Maybe you need to ask Obama about the Obamaspeak - because he's re-defined the 1984 version of NewSpeak in many different ways!!!
And I still haven't been able to get a comparison between Ted Nugent and Bill Donkeyface Maher either - read what I wrote to Balboa. Nugent is direct and bold and will say what he has to say TO the person that he is addressing - and will make no bones or apologies about it............and if you watched the rest of this interview, you'd see and hear some of Nugent's humility and self-depreciation too.
As for Maher - he's a chicken-sh*t little tilley who would have to change his pink panties if he ever ran into any of the people that he vilely insults on a weekly basis...........and those are only the women!!!

Alert the media!
This has never EVER happened before Obama was president.
Give me a break dude. This is as weak as the whole stunningly unclever "teleprompter-in-chief" bit. As if every president since the technology was invented hasn't used a teleprompter.
The conservatives' hatred of Obama is getting darn close to being as unfounded and superficial as liberals' hatred of Bush. You can't even mention his name without using some stupid alteration of it, like Boy Baraka, whatever that's even supposed to mean.
Lemme clue you in on a few
Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 10:40pm.
Lemme clue you in on a few things, Jason, because you appear to be rather clueless, although I'm sure that you think you're smarter than anybody around you.
I've got a problem with Boy Baraka's COMPLETE phoniness - and his affected speech patterns are just a small part of it.
Plus - I don't care who does it - I think it's bogus for ANY of these politicians to try and change their typical or usual speaking styles to fit whatever audience they are talking to. Anybody in the audience with a modicum of intelligence and common sense would be insulted at listening to some self-absorbed politician trying to sound like them Of course, when we are talking about Boy BlahBlah, all bets are off, because most of his supporters are uninformed, misinformed, willfully noninformed, and are woefully lacking in both intelligence AND common sense - which is basically illegal these days anyway!!!
Ok - the teleprompter issue. Have you ever paid attention to Barry Soetoro when he is OFF teleprompter, Jason?? Would you consider this guy to be lucid??? Quick on his feet?? Well-trained at impromptu speaking?? Able to string together a coherent paragraph without stammering, stuttering, hemming, hawing, and trying his best to sound precient and intelligent while he searches for a thought that he can state without telling the truth about what he really thinks??? And do it all in a 17 minute time frame??? There's a reason he MUST rely on the teleprompter - it TELLS him what to say..............and the idiot can't even get it right frequently. Plus, when he adopts his Benito Mussolini - looking down my nose at the folks - speaking style while reading his teleprompter, he only showcases his arrogance, condascencion, and sanctimony, as well as elevating his allready-overblown ego and supreme narcississim.
I don't think my own disdain, disrespect, and utter loathing of Boy Baraka - on a political OR personal level - is unfounded OR superficial.................he is America's WORST NIGHTMARE..........and I'm not rolling over for him, and neither are millions and millions of my compatriots. He is the biggest threat that this country has ever faced in the history of the USA, bar none!!!
And 'Boy Baraka'??? Hey, Jason, I've got a grandson who is more mature and carries himself with more class and style than this immature, sniveling, spoiled, never-told-no, brainwashed, self-absorbed, egomaniacial, petulant punk - and I do mean 'punk' too, because in the real world, he'd just be another big-mouthed punk with nothing to back it up. He's basically a lightweight who hit the bigtime - and now the country is in dire danger of being ruined - and we only have ourselves to blame - although don't blame me, because I know where I'm coming from.
And don't call me 'dude', either...........in Hawaii, that could lead to a quick slap from some of 'da boyz'...............

Yes, the teleprompter TELLS him what to say. Just like it did for McCain. And Bush, and Clinton, and Bush, and Reagan, and Carter . . .
Yeah, OK, I get it, you deeply loathe Obama. Nevermind that everything you say is either a bunch of cobbled-together and highly-subjective observations - yup, ALL of the people who still support and believe in the Obama administration are idiots - or paranoid blather.
he is America's WORST NIGHTMARE..........He is the biggest threat that this country has ever faced in the history of the USA, bar none!!!
How? No, really. Serious question. This is ALL the dwindling, arcane, right wing has. Vague claims about how Obama is a menace. You can't even bring yourself to use his proper name, and you think anyone will take you seriously when you dive wholeheartedly into hyperbole like this? One day, you're going to run out of silly, infantile ways to distort his name into vaguely insulting nicknames. Hopefully, it will coincide with the day that someone truly calls you out on this WORST NIGHTMARE EVAH!!!1!! canard. There are things to criticize about Obama. If you dialed down the pathological need to make him the source of all evil, your criticisms might be taken seriously outside of the fringe right.
I mean, do you realize how ridiculous all this sounds? You find his facial expressions distasteful (not at ALL related to the fact that you just don't like his politics, I'm sure) so therefore he looks at us like Mussolini? Pa-. Thetic. You're no more compelling than the Daily Kos bloggers and dumb-ass college kids who joked about Bush being a monkey.
Also: Spoiled, never-told-no? Are you even vaguely aware of his biography? Or the fact that he's pretty much the Compromiser-in-Chief thanks to the legislative branch?
I could go on and on. But since Romney doesn't stand a chance, we'll have plenty of time to continue this conversation.

Yup, I think Obama's a pretty good president. You've found me out.
And you have no response whatsoever to my assessment of your churlishly apocalyptic claims about his presidency. Big surprise.
Let's leave it at this. In your profile (I wanted to see how long you've been posting here after you called me "rookie"...let's just say I'm an oldtimer compared to you) you say that his presidency has rendered the United States into the U.S.S.A. I'm assuming that's not a typo but yet another clever way of intimating that the U.S. is now like Soviet Russia (how, exactly?). Even putting aside your baseless and endless hatred for the POTUS, this is a pretty damning indictment of your own faith in the U.S. In your view, the American people are so weak that one term of a bad presidential administration can turn us into some sort of statist dystopia?
I'm tempted to take a page from conservatives circa 2001-2008 and ask why you don't just expatriate, but that was always a puerile bit of rhetoric no matter which side it came from.

Compromiser in Chief? Really? The "But I won" and "Elections have consequences" president? Not to mention the big meeting about health care with the GOP who's ideas BO didn't even consider using?
As far as our rights, BO signed a bill allowing him to detain American citizens indefinately without a trial. He's given himself the power to shut down the internet, and take property and labor from American citizens during an undefined national emergency. He's passed a health care requiring Americans to buy a product against their will. He assasinated an American citizen overseas.
Pretty scary in my book, but like Nugent, I'm a freedom lover.

Sorry to see you are using the predictable reply to anyone who dares to call out the President for what he really is. What has he done in his presidency that warrants this sort of protection from someone like you who doesn't really know him; save through the propaganda that is aired daily by the "Big-3?" Blind faith in leaders is akin to putting your head in the sand.
I do know one thing, Obama is one to be feared; not directly attributed to him but for the bottom-line that he hasn't really done anything on his own. Once his usefulness has been depleted, he will be cast aside by those in power behind him. The fact that he happens to be black was by design and has been worked brilliantly by his followers. But even with this, the fuel will run out sooner than later and you will be left with clutter strewn everywhere with his picture on it.

Submitted by JasonC on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 10:08pm.
Bill Maher is a misogynist blowhard who wrote an editorial that - coming from anyone else - should have been though-provoking. Coming from him, it was cowardly, a schoolyard retreat, a rewriting of the rules of etiquette meant to exculpate him and him only.
Nugent, however...a washed-up nobody with fanciful and completely extremist views who is, frankly, lucky he's not being investigated for his suggestion that the POTUS fellate his machine gun. Seriously, given that he apparently owns dozens of high-powered weapons without any federal obstruction renders his shrieks of victimization at the hands of anti-2nd Amendment extremists pretty moot. Not to mention the fact that he invested the proceeds from his unbelievably boring arena rock chest-thumping anthems into a hunting facility that any real hunter would dismiss as being a liiittle to close to featuring canned quarry. OH! And he got around those pesky statutory rape laws by LEGALLY ADOPTING his underage girlfriend. If you all want to get indignant and ad hominemy about misogyny and male entitlement, that pretty much takes the cake.
Hey Ted, tell us again about how you're a Real American and if the lib'ruls don't like it they can kiss your ass til next Tuesday and they'd better run if they see you with your big bad compound huntin' bow. You just never get tiresome.

Submitted by JasonC on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 10:32pm.
Here's the problem with The Nuge, aside from his fashion sense and a discography that makes Winger look sophisticated: he truly seems to believe that intoning (or shrieking) the word "Freedom" is some sort of brilliant and inspiring meditation on policy and culture. And like all reactionaries, left or right, who rally around some fetishized concept as if it's not completely lacking novelty, his view of what counts as freedom is totally limited to his own narrow preferences.
This is a man who actually said "Apartheid isn't that cut-and-dry. All men are not created equal," in one fell swoop pretty much shitting on the Founding Fathers who are apparently only good for having written the 2nd Amendment (which you'll never hear Nuge quote in full, but that's cool, I'm sure the militia part didn't mean anything important) and on decades of struggle in South Africa. This is a man who actually called the President of the United States a "piece of s---." That anyone here would eviscerate Maher for his misogynist remarks but defend Nugent for "just speaking his mind" is disgraceful, and just goes to show that, not at all surprisingly, these aghast calls for decorum and civility in discourse by Bozell et al. are motivated by the same ideological tribalism as, well, everything else in our sad little excuse for politico-cultural conversation.

I'm not trying to advance a 3rd grade Social Studies book version of South Africa's history. I'm not trying to debate apartheid with you at all, in fact, though the fact that you know a handful of people who have a contrarian view of it based on firsthand experience is no doubt fascinating - I'm pointing out that Nugent's statement was openly based on a belief that people who are born into a subjugated social position are maybe just plain inferior.

Maybe you've never been in business for yourself, and been 'subjugated' (subdued, made subservient, reduced to submission, dominated, tamed, etc.........) by a never ended array of federal, state, local, and insurance rules, regulations, taxes, penalties, fees, fines, compliances, decrees, edicts, fatwahs, and the like - designed to complicate your own life and ability to get something done, while also PAYING those people and agencies who are DOING it to you!!!
Or maybe you've never been in the service?? I'm sure those new recruits could give you a pretty good definition of 'subjugation'.
Or maybe you've never had dealings with the IRS, or OSHA, or some other Big Brother agency??
You sound like a typical lib, Bos.............telling people how to think, how to talk, and how to act - without having any credentials or common sense to back it up. I'll take my own stance anyday over yours.
And as to your remark above about me 'not helping matters' with regards to the current climate in political discourse - HAH!!!
Get outta my face, meat...............you're delusional. I live in the real world.............and I'm a survivalist. And even my lib acquaintances would testify as to my cheerful and animated and easy-going personality. But if someone wants to get into it, I don't roll over. Haha!

First off, I'm not insulted-because I'm not damn fool enough to claim that I've ever been subjugated. Put upon? Yes. Annoyed? Yes. Deeply irritated by bureaucracies? Clearly. Fined and taxed and blah blah blah. Yeah, like every other citizen of the US. But subjugated? You have a low threshold for what you consider subjugation.
You should consider yourself blessed that your "subjugation" is as weak as it is. I'm sorry that you're a business owner and have to deal with regulations and fines and taxes. Right now there are people all over this world who are rotting in prison for being different-for believing in something their government doesn't want them to believe. For being a woman, or gay, or a different religion than the state. This, my "submissive" friend, is real subjugation. Dealing with irritating regulations and tax law is a far stretch from being executed as a political dissident.
And I'm not telling you how to act or talk-I'm just telling you that you're claim of being "subjugated" is laughable. And that's common sense.
Sorry Bos*

You are wrong again. This country was founded on the principles of freedom and liberty, individual rights. Our founders saw thousands of years of slavery and subjugation in other countries They pledged the people of this country that "subjugation" was prevented by the constitution. Americans today have a dim view of subjugation since is it rare in this country and dont get started on slavery. We took of that yet it still exists in other parts of the world. Subjugation of any kind will not be acceptable to any true American. Be it for religious reasons, federal rules and regulations, intimidation, nor the slow erosion of individual rights.
You're completely right.

You apparantly fail to recognize the reason NB exists. There are those in this country that have plans to subjugate the citizenry. The media doesnt want you to know but it is there. Most people have not yet felt it because it comes in slow incremental steps but there are those who are well aware.
Lets see, we are now regulated as to what we can grow in our back yards, no crucifix or flags in the yard, no bake sales, no lemonade stands, no salt on the resturant table, no sodas at schools, no prayers at sports events, no religious symbols on government sites, they tell us which light bulbs to buy, use our taxes without our approval to build useless items that no one wants like the Volt and sun panels, continue spending our way into debt and raising taxes but demand nothing from 40 million people who live off the government and contribute nothing, government can take your property if it deems it of benefit to others with their version of fair price, they tell you how many people you can put in a boat, how many fish you can catch, the government decides if you can contract with an oil company to drill on YOUR land, they can tell you to take your clothes off in the presence of others for YOUR own safety.......................shall I go on Bos??? I can list lots more instances of government overreach. Or do you truly fail to see the "subjugation" of Americans on a daily basis?

Segregation was more than just racism. Even today, blacks tend to form communities resulting in majority black school districts. The Federal Courts are still involved in many school districts and trying to deal with the cultural identification while trying to blend schools with diversity.
I have had discussions with black educators many times over these issues. Surprisingly, many blacks have told me that quality education and graduation rates were much better for blacks before segregation. Their biggest problem, of course, was the funding, supplies, and buildings were inferior for black schools due to limited funding by white school districts local government.
Many of the black educators in these discussions were those that attended segregated schools and were now involved in the public school system. They too felt that the issue of race took priority over other issues involving the black community and education. As a result, many cultural and community issues were neglected and feel those issues are still pushed aside for "diversity". Faillure to address those "other" issues they believe is partly the cause for poor performance and low graduation rates for black students.
Having done some research on the subject, it was not surprising to find broad extremes and staunch positions on opposite ends. Rarely did I find a fair and objective view from "either" side. Among educators, however, these issues still seem to be a major part of research and development of curriculums to improve performance.
This may one day be an interesting subject of discussion here on the boards.

Comments coming from a labled group of southern bible toting toothless ignorant redneck tea bagging racists, I can see the confusion. Any disagreements, prior to 2008, on liberal vs conservative, had little or nothing to do with racism. But today, any opposition to Obama and his administrative policies are ALL primarily based on his skin color or so we are told. It distorts the conversations, leaves out important issues, and creates greater divide. But it also demeans the true definitions and exhibitions of racism in our country. Just like with other issues in this country outside of politics, race permeates the discussion and is a huge obstacle to finding workable solutions. Are we not all Americans? How do we stop the class warfare, race baiting, and concentrate on the real issues? How do we bring back one America and seek solutions to end our economic woes? How do we bring back capitalism, opportunity, and pride in accomplishments instead of seeing government as the end all save all solution?
The discussions about a socialist administration and the "transformation" of our country has absolutely nothing to do with racism. But we cannot get past the race baiters and the biased media enough to actually address major areas of concern for all Americans.

Where are "class warfare" and "racism" coming from? Are you just tossing out supposed liberal warhorse buzzwords out to see what sticks?
Nugent could be a member of Mensa, for all I know. That he's managed to be in the news a few times a year and have the sort of influence that he does and be wealthy despite being the kind of musician whose greatest hits tape is normally sold exclusively in the $1 bin at truck stops testifies that he is rather smart indeed.
However, my quoting his apartheid comment is simply to show that despite the fact that he believes shouting "Freedom" all Mel Gibson in Braveheart-like is some sort of compelling political statement, his vision of what freedom is and should be is clearly quite limited.

Not going to debate that here, for several reasons.
You say his idea of freedom is and should be is quite clearly limited. What does that even mean? Do you know what he means by freedom? Because apart from his music you seem rather uninformed about him.
And the cry of freedom is more meaningful to me than that of racism or class warfare that BO espouses.

Submitted by JasonC on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 11:22pm.
You've been doing this on your phone? My hat is off to you.
I'm quite familiar with Nugent's very narrow political perspective. As for my jabs at his music...well, those are just too easy.
Obviously, it's not that I think "freedom" isn't a concept worth celebrating. But shouting it at the end of a diatribe in which you invite leaders of the free world to do untoward things with assault rifles (I know, I'm not supposed to call them that, but I'm wicked liberal), or reserving that single word to summarize a political philosophy in general is just so easy and pandering and empty. In this context, it's a catchphrase, nothing more.
Obama isn't just standing around shouting "Class Warfare!" "The rich are meanies!", which would be roughly equivalent to Nugent's approach. He has the extremely thankless job of trying to get bills passed, and rightly points out some of the imbalances in our taxation and regulatory systems in order to justify those things. Disagree with his proposed legislation as you will, but it's eminently childish to act as though he's just stamping his foot and complaining that people have money.
As for racism, I'm not sure what you're alluding to aside from his unfortunate choice of words regarding the Gates incident in summer 2009. Frankly, I didn't find his remarks on Trayvon Martin to be the least bit beyond the pale.
Boy Baraka isn't 'standing
Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 11:36pm.
Boy Baraka isn't 'standing around shouting class warfare or the rich are meanies'...........jeez, Jason, you're either really delusional, or you are too brainwashed to see what is going on. Baraka uses class warfare on a very regular basis, as well as racial warfare, economic warfare, social warfare, and basically war on the American people and the traditional American way of life - which he disdains and thinks is illegal, immoral, and wrong. And what bills might you be mentioning, anyway?? Or what taxations and regulations?? Hell, Jason, this guy IS a walking, talking taxation and regulation machine - in case you haven't noticed. His view of America is that the Government is in charge of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE...............this is his vision for our country. What do you think all of this 'fair share' bullsh*t is about?? It's about taking the GOVERNMENT"S 'fair share' from the people who earn it and produce it, and giving it, as a 'fair share', to the people who are dependant on the governmet - and he is doing his best to increase those numbers - at least enough to get re-elected, and then all bets are off.................it just might be our last election as a Republic. In fact, if it looks like Boy Baraka might just lose this election, don't be surprised if it's cancelled for some nefarious reason.
Yeah..........if Barry Soetoro had a son, he might look like Trayvon Martin.................or maybe Muuuuuuuuuuuuuhamed Allen and that other guy who were the DC snipers from a few years ago. I'm sure that you don't think Eric (With) Holder is a racist either, do you??
And your vision of 'freedom' is what??
If you're going to continue
Submitted by JasonC on Fri, 05/04/2012 - 11:56pm.
If you're going to continue to insist on using belittling nicknames for the POTUS, I'm done. You're a grown man, for goodness' sake.
Not that there's much to work with here. The Martin case was suffused with racism, because Zimmerman had a confirmed history of singling out black men in his role as chief neighborhood wannabe cop. I'm not going to debate whether it was murder or self-defense for the zillionth time, but Obama is permitted to comment on an obviously racial component of a national news story. This conservative viewpoint that acknowledging the existence and historical influence of racism is somehow more damaging than the racism itself is perhaps the most twisted of the right's many distortions of reality.
Other than that...you've got nothing. A wall of text with recycled bits of paranoia and not one solid example. This could be the last election ever? Because the incumbent is a democrat you don't like who you've decided somehow resembles Mussolini in certain moments? How do you function with this sort of claptrap clanging around in your head?
Freedom is complicated as all get out, especially when you're trying to define it relative to the good ol' Social Contract that, unless libertarianism ever truly comes to pass, is what lets us be a civilization. But I can tell you that, in my view, to define freedom as being embedded in things like low income taxes, unrestricted firearms, and allowing companies to deny prescription coverage on an ideological whim is pretty facile.

I dunno, Jason - it seems that ol' Nugie is tryin' to live his life on his own terms, inasmuch as it is possible in this country, so he DOES have a viewpoint as it relates to 'freedom'............hell, I do the same thing - as a self-employed blue-collar worker who has been a 'rebel' his whole life.
I think the WHOLE POINT - as it relates to this conversation - is that Ted Nugent is a musician/property owner/gun owner/ 'right-wing' commentator, who you can pay attention to or not............whereas Barry Soetoro Baraka Hussein Obama is the President of the United States, and you risk your freedoms and liberties and ability to live as independantly as possible by NOT paying attention to him - and believe me, this guy is NOT the kind of person that I would EVER want to have to pay attention to - but I have no choice.

Nugent isn't a politician, he's a singer (we've agreed to not go there right? :) ), so he's not going to make lengthy speeches on stage the way BO does. It's no why his audiences go to see him. But he is seeing his freedoms being taken away. On his own property the government is coming in and telling him he can no longer hold hunts of animals he imports in for the purpose. Despite what you feel about hunting, it's an infringement of his rights. He has a farm and a three legged calf was born. Normal practice is to kill the calf since it will not be able to grow and thrive. He has been told he's not allowed to kill the animal, it must be allowed to live and suffer. There are other examples, but those are just two.
In my opinion, BO is standing there stamping his foot saying some people have to much money. Remember how much is enough? Why is it fair to tax someone who is successful at increasingly high rates? Success isn't handed to anyone, it comes through hard work and sacrifice. Many people aren't willing to do that, why should they be rewarded with the wealth of those who are? That is exactly what BO is proposing with his tax legislation.
By the way, he's not working so hard at passing bills as he is at making Executive Orders. And he had two years of a Democratic Congress to pass what he wanted. He wasn't much of a compromiser then was he?
Let me fill you in on Ted Nugent, Jason
Submitted by Blonde on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 11:03am.
Nugent is one of the rare rockers who didn't drink, drug or smoke, even when young....and invested his money wisely. How do I know? Because a college friend of mine dated him for about six months while he was in between wives. He was a huge family man, and always made time, even while on the road, to talk to his kids on a daily basis.
He is also an outdoorsman. So much so that he derives quite a bit of income from that. As in writing for Outdoors magazines, television shows. He still has his music, of course, and your $1 bin comment is far off the mark.
As for his vision of freedom, it's more or less the same as mine, freedom from government intrusion into my life and my pockets. It is not the liberal version of freedom....like the OWies, who demand free "stuff" for all and every "need" they think they have.

'Meat' is a baseball term.............in Hawaii, you'd hear a lot worse - believe it or not, there are many people over here in the People's Republic of Asia who also think that Boy Baraka is a pure-bred (or should that be half-bred) phony - and that even includes his purported place of birth.
I'm not shocked at all by people like you - I LIVE in Obamaville, and I know a lot of libs, and I know their thought processes and their emotional tendancies and their aversion to wanting to know anything beyond what they allready think they know. And most of them refuse to entertain anything that would go against the grain of their views.
But I have seen some 'hope' over here, as a number of dyed-in-the-wool libs have actually 'confessed' to me that they made a mistake, or were 'hoodwinked', or were sold a bill of goods, or whatever other reason that they give - about Obama - because I told them where it was at BEFORE the elections, and also AFTER the selection and coronation of Barry Soetoro Baraka Hussein Obama. It's just too bad that these people (and I know there are a LOT across the country) didn't do a little homework and find out what I did - and I'm no genius or fortune-teller.
But obviously you're not one of them................which is unfortunate - you seem to have a totally different view of our country than I do...........I know there are a lot of people who 'support' Obama, but they are NOT the kind of people that I would want to have on my side, because they are followers and useful idiots - just as Karl Marx (I think, although it could have been another communist propogandist) called them. And Obama KNOWS Karl Marx!!!

Jason, good to see you back here. Bad to see that you're the same ideologically-stuck-on-stupid liberal dork, especially when you've spent so much time at NB being schooled (and I mean that literally) by conservatives on a whole host of things you repeatedly get wrong.
"Nugent, however...a washed-up nobody with fanciful and completely extremist views..."
What political / ideological / social views does Nugent hold that you deem "extremist"?
"Seriously, given that he apparently owns dozens of high-powered weapons without any federal obstruction renders his shrieks of victimization at the hands of anti-2nd Amendment extremists pretty moot."
First off, we all admire you're hyperbole narrative of him owning this cache ("dozens") of "high-powered" weapons, lamely painting him as someone who might be unstable and shouldn't own this stuff, when he's completely within his rights to own 500 guns, should he choose.
Secondly, are you not aware that he's the bullseye for all anti-gun/NRA activists as far as celebrities, and people (like yourself) whine about his "dozens" of "high-powered" guns at every opportunity? I guess you're not.
"OH! And he got around those pesky statutory rape laws by LEGALLY ADOPTING his underage girlfriend. If you all want to get indignant and ad hominemy about misogyny and male entitlement, that pretty much takes the cake."
More hyperbole from JC, via omission of the details. This was back in the 1970's. He was 30, she was 17. She was underage by one year. He was relatively young himself. This makes him misogynistic and an example of.... male entitlement? And this example really "takes the cake"? Um, no it doesn't. I fell in love with a 16 year old girl when I was about 26. Yeah, I take the cake for.... male entitlement and misogyny??
What is the (your) definition of "male entitlement", btw? What possessed you to inject that into this Nugent tale? That's an extension of one of those "men are stronger / get paid more / where's the equality for women?!?!?" endless rants you libs love to go on, right?
"Hey Ted, tell us again about how you're a Real American and if the lib'ruls don't like it they can kiss your ass til next Tuesday and they'd better run if they see you with your big bad compound huntin' bow."
If I owned a gun, I'd tell you this myself. Again and again. Absolutely. And it would never get tired.
This antagonistic, piss ant leftist of an interviewer wanted to get under the skin of Nugent. I can't imagine why else they went out to interview him. Nugent's response was both priceless and spot on. I love the guy. And if "Nuge" is such a washed-up nobody, why are CBS camera crews trekking out to his cabin in the woods to get his take on things?

Hey all, and a special shout-out to my two favorite Hawaiians! :) (and Anna and I have those little islands in the Pacific marked down for our next adventure ;))
Yeah, I have to say I returned from Morocco in one piece and I'm now convinced..... islam IS the religion of peace and beauty and tranquility.
Okay, maybe not. :p But it was loads of fun, and the country is pretty westernized and modern for a predominantly muslim country (or at least Agadir and other tourist attraction cities are.) The ride from the airport to the swanky resort-hotel part of town, however, was a bit on the third-world side of things. They cater mostly to French tourists, and French is the second language there.
My web site photo was taken in a very windy sand dune along the south side of the beach -- a sort of mini-desert. That palatial home behind us belonged to some sort of local king, and there were armed guards nearby who gave us 20 minutes to quickly change wardrobes, take our pictures, and move along.
The beach is not exactly Bahamas-quality (it's too cold), and women jogging backwards in head scarves with baseball hats on top of them sort of ruins the "beach fun" vibe. So, no, other than one trip to that desert dune and one into town, we did not wonder off our hotel property all that much. The resort hotel we stayed at was sort of a world unto itself, with a spa, indoor heated pool, lounge, restaurant, five (5) pools out back with a cafe in the middle, etc..
And yes, we did hang out at a hooka bar that was in the first hotel we stayed at (we split our time in two resorts) and we filmed there as well (those scenes are at the 4:10 and 5:00 marks.)

Binky Braveheart Huxley is just still mad, that's all.
Submitted by The Vet on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 2:23am.
Huxley, writing in a 1927 issue of Harper’s, called for an aristocracy of intellect, and in a slim volume entitled Proper Studies, published the same year, he called for culling the masses through negative eugenics. “The active and intelligent oligarchies of the ideal state do not yet exist,” he told Harper’s readers, “but the Fascist party in Italy, the Communist party in Russia, the Kuomintang in China are still their inadequate precursors.” In the future, he insisted, “political democracy as now practiced, will be unknown; our descendants will want a more efficient and rational form of government.” He warned America that while it was wedded to “the old-fashioned democratic and humanitarian ideas of the eighteenth century…the force of circumstances will be too powerful for them” and they, too, would come to be governed by a new aristocracy of spirituality and intellect.
In 1931, as Huxley was composing Brave New World, he wrote newspaper articles arguing that “we must abandon democracy and allow ourselves to be ruled dictatorially by men who will compel us to do and suffer what a rational foresight demands.” It was Huxley’s view that “dictatorship and scientific propaganda may provide the only means of saving humanity from the misery of anarchy.” Many of the elements in the “brave new world” that contemporary readers find jarring actually appealed to Huxley. The sorting of individuals by type, eugenic breeding, and hierarchic leadership were policies for which he had proselytized. The problem with the world he created is the lack of spiritual insight, spiritual greatness, on the part of its leader.
Poor Binky. Here he nearly had a dictatorial man that would compel us to do and suffer. A dictator that would "fundamentally transform" America. And the dream is slowly dying because his dictatorial man may not get to be dictator after all. Sigh. No dictator. No aristocracy of the intellect. No dwindling conservatives. No culling of the dwindling conservatives. Democracy still continues to expand the world over. America still wedded to the Constitution thing of the 18th century. Sigh. Poor poor poor Binky.

Wow, gang's all here. Hi everyone. Cursory replies:
Killa: Once and for all, I thought that by calling me "rookie" you were suggesting that I'm a newbie on NB. Which is the only reason I pointed out that I've been commenting here for a long time. Certainly did not mean to get into a brouhaha about life experience and whether or not I would be afraid of your father. That just got weird. Furthermore, I am not going to debate apartheid with you. There were also slaves in the American south who wished to stay on the plantations after they were emancipated. That certainly runs contrary to our conventional narrative of the mid-19th century, eh? But it doesn't mean slavery was okay as an institution, and that's not what I'm arguing anyway. I'm taking issue with justifying apartheid, as Nuge did, by dismissing the idea of human equality. When he said it is immaterial. Aside from making threats to a sitting president and SoS, everything noteworthy that he's done was at least 30 years ago, so no big surprise there.
Radical: May I please have a link to Nugent being disallowed from euthanizing a calf with birth defects born on his property? Because believe it or not, I do have some knowledge of what goes on on working farms, and that sounds completely outrageous; though I'd be curious as to how he would trace it back to Obama and Clinton. As for restrictions on what animals he can or cannot import for his canned hunting amusement park, no; that is NOT an infringement on his rights. That is a preservation of some of those animals' rights.
Shy: My point isn't that owning so many firearms isn't a sign of instability, though of course I personally can't see the appeal. My point is that the fact that he DOES own them seems to run counter to his personal narrative that anti-2nd Amendment zealots are undermining his right to do so at every turn. I'm perfectly aware of the circumstances surrounding Nugent's adoption. Doesn't make it any less creepy, and if he was a liberal talking head you would absolutely eviscerate him for it. But finally, even though a compound bow is not the same as a gun, I'll be sure to be extra careful next time I'm in Manhattan. Message board bravado. I'm shaking in my boots.
To everyone else: If you're going to routinely accuse liberals of being overly offended by every little thing, perhaps you should try not to get so worked up about a remark as benign as "I can't wait to get back to civilization." Obviously, I don't think rural American is uncivilized. I wouldn't have committed to living here for several years if I didn't like it. I just prefer a city. Meanwhile, matthewdean insults millions upon millions of city-dwelling Americans by cramming them all into a stereotypical insult that culminates with "ass-munching"...but that's just fine? Yeah, no one works hard in cities. Those teeming metropolises that are the locus of finance and culture just maintain themselves.

Please bear with me as I'm on my iPod taking a break from Saturday cleaning. I don't know if I can find a link about the calf, but it was discussed on Beck's program. I doubt I'll be able to find a different link as it's not a big story, but I'll look later.

Submitted by JasonC on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 11:39am.
If the calf thing is true, then I'm actually sympathetic to Nugent. That's a ridiculous thing for gov't to insert itself into. But I'm dubious about it, even more so now that I hear Beck may have been the one who broke the story.
So any individual should just be able to import any exotic animal they please, enclose it inside a few hundred acres, and charge tourists a few hundred bucks to shoot arrows at it?
Or even forget the hunting part. My rights are being trampled if a government agency says I can't keep an alpaca and a polar bear in my back yard, even if I'm willing to pay the costs involved? I wanna make them fight each other. I'm an American, it's my right!
On a more philosophical note, I find it abhorrent to put animals in an enclosed area in which they have basically no chance of competing with a cadre of bow or firearm-wielding hunters. At least in real hunting, they're in their natural habitat. But still, do you know how unlikely a kill shot is? With a gun very unlikely, with a bow almost impossible. Those animals suffer. I'm no fan of meat consumption period, but at least in a farming context it's possible to kill them with almost no pain. We may have dominion over the earth and animals, but it's our responsibility to treat them with dignity. Even Conservapedia agrees with me on this one:
http://www.conservapedia.com/Vegetarianism#Biblical_issues
I'm sure this post will result in a deluge of flames informing me that I'm ignorant about hunting or a pantywaist tree-hugging animal rights wacko, so I'll depart for now and hesitantly check back in tonight.

Not talking exotic animals, some type of boar. Nugent uses a bow and arrow for these hunts, and they are charity events. He takes war vets on hunts, and sick children who are hunters and requested it. The animals are not shot and left to suffer, they are tracked, killed, and consumed. You may find it offensive but it's part of the culture of some Americans, and is legal.

That's really nice that he does it for charity (not being sarcastic) and I wouldn't suggest it should be made illegal.
But if he is able to conduct these hunts, then what are we even arguing about? Clearly, he is unfettered enough by laws and regulations to run his canned hunts as he sees fit. But it's a huge infringement on his rights that regulations about displacing wild animals into hunting facilities exist?
Should we also discard rules about what size a striped bass must be in order to be kept? Or how many points a buck must have to be picked off with a high-powered optically-enhanced rifle? These rules and regulations exist for reasons other than the smug self-satisfaction of animal rights proponents.

Submitted by Radical1979 on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 12:01pm.
Recently Nugent was told he must go out and kill the boars because they were feril or something. They obviously weren't since he imported them onto his property. I think the government just decided he's on the harassment list, so they stopped him. They technically weren't wild animals as they were raised for this purpose, the same way fish are raised to stock streams.
The point of regulations in the wild is to prevent decimating the population of a wild animal. Not the case here.

Wild Boars*
Submitted by cajun2 on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 1:06pm.
The hunting of wild boars is not only a sport but a necessity. They are very dangerous and aggressive and are found in almost every state. I put sport hunting of wild boar in the same category as salvaging ship wrecks. A necessary action is used by entrepenuers into a capitalist venture. Nothing wrong with that. There are many activities throughout the country like boar hunting, aligator hunts and others that are born of necessity as well as having become a part of the local culture. Not counting the receipes..;-)
Every such activity is monitored by various regulatory agencies. Some of these regs are to the point of idiocy as is typical of the feds. An example of hypocrisy is the recent decision to allow one specific Native American tribe to legally hunt a protected bald eagle. The regs were determined to be a violation of the tribes religious expression. How interesting that the feds would alloow an endangered protected species to be killed for religious protection yet this same federal government has begun a war on Catholics for trying to protect their religious beliefs.
And you wonder why Ted gets angry..

"Not unbiased" is a bit of an understatement. I just don't buy this. I've been involved in working farms in communities with waaay heavier regulation than Nuge's neck of the woods, and the idea that you can't euthanize a suffering livestock animal is ridiculous. If it really happened this way, then I agree, it's a travesty. But Nuge has got to be exaggerating this, it just doesn't add up.
Also...Beck interviewing Nugent...*full body shudder*. I need some sort of anti-bombast scrubber for my brain.

NUGENT: Because the federal government for a long, long time has been trying, increasing the net of felonies, what qualifies as a felony. Do you know that the humane society of the United States somehow convinced some soulless people in Pennsylvania that killing a deer illegally is now a felon, a felony. A felony.
GLENN: Can you talk about ‑‑
NUGENT: Now, I’m all for management of wildlife, I think you should stop poaching, I think you have to abide by the law. Even the goofy laws. Until you change a goofy law, you have to abide by it. But some of these laws are indescribably bizarre and illogical.
GLENN: You describe one more law, I’ve got to go in about a minute, but describe one more thing that is happening on your ranch here in Texas that is not, it’s not illogical. It is ‑‑ it’s inhumane.
NUGENT: Yes. I ‑‑ the scimitar‑horned oryx was brought to Texas landowners, private land, many years ago because it’s a magnificent animal and it was endangered in Africa. It is no longer endangered. We put a value on it where we harvest the surplus bulls and we went from like 1200 to 20,000‑something oryx, more than stabilizing the herd because they’re valuable to landowners. The federal government sided with an animal rights maniac to ban the hunting. I have to get federal permits to touch my thriving, growing, healthy heard of oryx. There was a ‑‑
GLENN: And if you leave them alone, if you leave them alone, it’s like bunny rabbits. They will overrun everything.
NUGENT: They will eat everything and all life will cease. It will be a moonscape.
GLENN: Okay.
NUGENT: That’s why the annual season of harvest is a stewardship duty. So I have a crippled calf oryx that has three legs that is all gaunt and my wife and I are watching it slowly die. But if I were to do the right thing and dispatch this animal, put it out of its misery, I would be a felon, Glenn.

He's immediately mocked or demonized as a religious zealot. Conservatives are completely in line with the teachings of Christ. We believe in helping others ourselves, not expecting the government to do it. Did you take note of how much more charitable giving there is among conservatives versus liberals?

No, what conservatives are mocked for is vaguely citing Jesus in order to promote petty, discriminatory politics that Jesus would never have approved of. You can't tell me there isn't something deeply ironic about Coco's two posts to me concluding with an allusion to John or Corinthians.
Cite something that Jesus actually said or believed, and make a legitimate connection to contemporary issues with it, and I will totally respect you even if I don't share your faith.

I completely disagree. Liberals policy advocates could rather easily cite Christianity in order to, for instance, justify welfare and other wealth-distribution schemes, but this rarely happens, because liberals tend not to lean on millenia-old mythology to support their ideologies. Nonetheless, such schemes seem much more in keeping with Jesus' style than, say, wanting homosexuals to be kept marginalized and regarded as aberrant.

I already addressed this above. If there's one thing conservatives have succeeded at, it's making "Conservative" a badge of honor and "Liberal" an embarrassingly dirty word, even to those who hold liberal views. Maybe it's because creating slang like Libtard is just easier. Conservatard doesn't have quite the same ring.
Nonetheless, I am way way less interested in what people pick as self-identifying labels than in the fact that rigid conservative ideals are falling out of fashion and that ideals typically regarded as liberal are becoming more and more the norm, even among those who may identify as "conservative." This is apparent in every aspect of our culture, and perhaps exemplified by the fact that Romney is the GOP nominee.

Slobs, spoiled brats, drug addicts, all things free, "free love", wastful pigs, and anti anything with rules and boundaries. Back then, the "hippies" just wanted peace but were totally against "the man". But then, there were also those during those days that believed their agenda was so important using bombs, setting fires, destroying businesses were acceptable means. A man like Bill Ayres who, after all these years, is back giving advice to todays OWS/hippies. My my, history does repeat itself. And actually, the 60's were pretty good - at least for me - and I think you may have noticed that the copious amounts of LSD I did back then had NO effect on me whatsoever, because we could get the 'real' stuff back in those days. And I lived right on the beach and surfed my brains out, with no real sense of responsibility. And ...........oh yeah..........the 'free love' thing????
Of course, I never bought into the Timothy Leary crap, or the 'psychedlic' groovy peace and love crap - beyond how far it would go at any particular time.............and I never went out there and burned my draft card, or stuck a flower down the end of a rifle being held my the military, or wanted to be some kind of 'student radical' like the SDS or any of those other commie organizations. Hell, when I was going to the University of Hawaii, that sawed-off cretin Neil Abercrombie - who I refer to as Neil Uber-commie - was a student rabble-rouser at the time, and was a mentor to your Boy Barry Soetoro Baraka Hussein Obama's mother and father, and also connected to Franklin James, who was Obama's 'black' commie mentor, after his deadbeat commie moooooooooooooslem purported father (do we really know if that was his father?? Maybe it was Malcom X, who was in Seattle with Obama's mother about 9 months before he was born - somewhere!!)...........and also his lover during Obama's teenage years in Honolulu.
I though those types of people were insidious and dangerous.................and look how right I was!!! And in this case, I hate it when I'm right!!! As Pogo used to say - 'we have met the enemy, and it is us'!!!
And, actually - I think that this country still had a much better chance of having a better future back then - regardless of the Vietnam War, or LBJ with his 'beginning of the end' social policies, or the commies infiltrating the system that they dispised so much, with the plan and idea to overtake it - which they have done - then we do now. Because now we have the end result of all of that 30's and 60's socialism, communism, Marxism, stateism, and the worst of ever other type of government control, all wrapped up into One Big Ass Mistake, America!!! And guys like you............rookies, whippersnappers, dummies, suicidal lemmings..........are content to buy into the whole lie and roll over and allow it to continue.
You made a somewhat disparaging remark about my Father..........but it's probably good that he is deceased, because he'd probably die of heartache if he saw what was happening to this country anymore - and he could see the writing on the wall back in those days - I remember a lot of the things he told me.
The fact that idiots voted for, or will continue to vote for, Boy Baraka wouldn't bother me too much - since they want to basically screw themselves..............but what really rankles my ass is that they are also screwing me, my compatriots, and the country at the same time.

OK, OK.............I could have said Kahala or Lower Kalihi - which are both in Honolulu, but you wouldn't have known what I was talking about. They are both 'urban'............and I can guarantee you that you wouldn't want to live in one of them. My point on that is - 'urban' is NOT 'urban' - when it comes to where you choose to live. Believe it or not, even a dumb-ass country boy like me has been to a couple 'big cities', so I have eyes, ears, a nose, and somewhat of a peabrain..................
"Compton is pretty nice these days:"..oh really?

I worked Compton station for a few years before I retired.....it is NOT a nice place!! It's nice if you like gang shootings, innocent children dying in the cross fire, drug dealers, gangbangers attacking old folks. Go ahead Mr. Liberal, live there, and spread your compassion........see how far that gets you!! Crime is down due to our heavy presence there, patrol deputies spend all their time chasing radio calls their entire shift! Century Station, which patrols Compton is known as "burn out" station due to the overworked deputies. Dont talk out your @$$ about something you know NOTHING about.

You speak TROOF, based on experience, BEGRUNT - so I"m glad you posted this. I certainly don't know anything about Compton, other than what I've read.......and maybe Mr. Compassionate SHOULD live there for a while, and find out what 'civilization' is really all about.
OK, I"ve got to go to the dump, since I don't have trash pick-up service out here in the hinterlands (although I do pay for it, as part of my property taxes, but only the people in the town get it!!!)................and I will dutifully put my glass and plastic and carboard into the recycling bins...................but guess what?? I was doing my own form of recycling a helluva lot longer than it has become fashionable and poliltically correct. Heck, my Mother used to tell me about the recycling efforts that went on during WW2 - you know, back there when the EVIL American imperialists were going all over the world, killing freedom-fighters???
Oh, yeah, I'm going to the store to buy some food - with my OWN money!!! Imagine that!!! I do see other people in there, buying better, and more, food than I do - with their EDB (or whatever the food-stamp credit cards are called) - cards, which I also help to pay for - and most of them are a lot younger than I am, although I'm in better shape, because I WORK for a living!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhh.............compassion, compassion, compassioin............
Ah yes 5 cents refund for glass that ends up crushed in the dump
Submitted by upcountrywater on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 5:30pm.
I've recycled Aluminum and copper for years and years....Why because it is a real business and people make money doing it.
As if shipping cardboard 2,300 miles, makes money.... just a load of feel good crap.
Trash might sail in 2 weeks — cross your fingers
Yea you know who uses the EDT cards, because it takes forever, for the card reader to dial-up the tired state computers to get the transaction completed.

Actually, no ka oi, I take my glass and plastic products to a place that will give me my state-mandated refund - although they charge me 6 cents, and give me back 5!!! If I go to the county dump and leave it there, I get nothing for my money - which is probably the way the state wants it!!!
Seems like a lot of criminals and ice-heads have gotten into the copper recycling business too - when they take out a few miles of copper wire from any one of Honolulu's highways!!! How the hell do they do that without being caught?? And who buys that amount of 'product' without being busted??? I think it's all an 'inside job', over here in the incestuous People's Republic of Hawaii/Asia division!!
I try not to get irritated when I see some young nimrod - fresh in from the mainland - using and EDT card to buy better food than I can afford - and somehow also cigarettes and booze!!! I had some punk ASK me for some money the other day - out in front of the local Foodland. He had a nice new T-shirt and shorts - I was dirty in my T-shirt and jeans from working. I told him I'd pay him $5 to wash my truck............he said 'never mind'!!!
I'm sure Boy Baraka could site me for some 'mininum wage law' infraction.................
That recycle dance, however the glass still goes to the DUMP
Submitted by upcountrywater on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 8:41pm.
yes by all means get the 5 cents back...
After you leave that glass behind at the redemption center... It is shipped to a crusher company to crush....additional hauling then off it goes ...to the very dump you visit.
Oh, a few years ago a small percentage of that crushed glass pile went to fill the planter boxes at the schools, so the kids would kick it out and have it littering the area around the planters. Oh yea have it blended into the asphalt for some parking lot joke projects.
How many folks waste energy washing and rinsing out those bottles with hot water first?

You're probably telling the TROOF............but, hey, at least I get 5 cents back for my black cherry bottles, while I have to throw the vodka bottles into the container for free!!!
Oh yeah, I don't know about Maui, but we now have a law over here that bans ANY burning - I guess - unless you're cooking something. Now, I live in the boonies, and I like to burn things on top of weeds and overgrowth - it's a good way to keep them at bay. But now I risk a $10,000 fine for it.................they want me to put it in my truck, use EVIL fossil fuels to drive it to the dumb, where they can use even MORE evil fossil fuels to take it to the landfill, and then waste more valuable property creating a big, unusable dump!!!
I'll be waiting for the resident libs and 'environmentalists' to show up to tell me what a terrible thing burning is.
Yup a state law... Need to plug Kilauea volcano

I might have a way around the fire-ban law!!! I'll have a couple of hot dogs on sticks ready to go when I start my fire, and then if the fire department shows up, I'll be roasting them for dinner!!!
Plus, I surf with about 33% of the firemen, and another 33% played on my soccer teams, and I just know the rest of them from being around here so long!!!
Well you would certainly know

Well you would certainly know better than me. I have been within Compton city limits 3 times, all after the Rodney King riots, and my impression was more favorable with each visit. My impression was that it has been undergoing gentrification in the last decade. But I didn't have to work as a patrol officer day in and day out during that time, so I would certainly not pretend to know better than you.
Interestingly, though, St. Louis - hardly a commonly cited urban crime zone in the popular imagination - is routinely ranked the most dangerous city in America.

I must say, old chap, that I was rathah mystified by that comment too...............I was compelled to hold my monacle a little, shall we say, closer - to peruse and ponder the rathah extraordinary ramifications of such a statement!!! Why, I even donned my smoking jacket and my house slippers, and sat down in my library - with my basset hound at my feet - to give further thought and investigation as to the veracity and legitimacy of the hypothosis that Mr. Jason C had laid down..................while supping from a snifter of Corvassier, of course!!!
But apparantly, Mr. Dean - as you are a mere 'commoner', and, as such, you view contemplations such as these from a different perspective - you have verified, sanctified, and signified my own rathah high-brow deductions of such a ludicrous and preposterous statement......................and for that, I say 'jolly good show'!!!
MD, didn't Trayvon live in an "urban area"?
Submitted by UpNorth on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 9:16pm.
Or, did he live in the hood? Maybe Jason can explain it to us hayseeds out in flyover country.
Or, is this an urban area, too? Y'know, another one of those "vibrant" urban centers of culture.

JasonC no doubt considers Trayvon to have been a dazzling urbanite.
Once some additional details surfaced regarding items found in Trayvon's backpack, people with common sense saw a hood wearing a hood who was up to no good while outside the 'hood.

Don't you live near some nice, clean, orderly, lawful, safe, family-oriented 'urban areas', UpNorth??? I've heard that there are some really great places to live and raise a family around them there parts............and they are in such pristine and presentable condition because of the compassionate and caring policies of the long line of Democrat leadership, right???
I dunno where ol' Jason lives, but it must be one of those areas, because he says that 'urban is urban', and that is where the 'civilization' is, and that he enjoys living in these types of places.
Being a country boy, I'm probably too dumb, or not nuanced enough, to cut it in the big city.

of those "vibrant" urban areas. For my efforts, I got shot at a few times, had a knife or two pulled(you really should see my collection of knives) on me, had rocks bounced off my patrol cars, and spent more than enough time with people as they breathed their last.
That's why I moved far north of the city I worked in. And, they can "revitalize" the downtown area all they want, it still isn't safe when the bars close, the neighborhoods aren't safe for most folks. It's a lot like Norfolk, Va in the story I linked, now that I mention it.
And, I'm still waiting for Jason to tell me where the "animal rights" he referenced up thread are enumerated. He seems to have skipped right over that request for clarification.

I think he was referring to the four-legged variety.

But, I'm still really interested in where their rights are set out.
