Nothing to See Here: Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan Barely Mention ObamaCare's Rough Time In Court

By Matt Hadro | March 29, 2012 | 12:50

A  A

CNN's own legal analyst described Wednesday morning's Supreme Court hearing on ObamaCare as a "trainwreck" for the Obama administration and added "it may also be a plane wreck" – but prime-time hosts Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan made only one brief mention between them of the bill's rough morning in court, during Wednesday night's prime-time coverage.

In fact, during Tuesday and Wednesday night's newscasts, Morgan and Cooper made only two brief mentions of the hearings -- while the rest of CNN's afternoon coverage on those days heavily discussed the Court's hearings on ObamaCare.

On Wednesday, CNN covered the Court's examination of the health care bill every hour from noon until 8 p.m. EDT. However, the next three hours of Anderson Cooper 360 and Piers Morgan Tonight made no mention of the hearings save one – and that framed the demise of the ObamaCare mandate as something that could hurt Republicans.

"Well the feeling of a lot of legal analysts seems to be that the Court is likely to toss out the individual mandate portion of health care reform," Cooper told Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), and then asked "if that were to happen, could it actually end up working against Republicans, giving them one less thing to run on in the fall?"

The Vice President of the United States believed that the health care bill's passage was a "big f***ing deal," but after the bill's central provision – the individual mandate – had two bad days in court, apparently Cooper and Morgan didn't think that was much of a deal at all.

On both Tuesday and Wednesday, CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin made headlines for his description of the mandate's plight in the Supreme Court -- a "trainwreck" for the Obama administration. Toobin often appeared on CNN to expound upon his dire analysis. However, he was not a guest on Anderson Cooper 360 or Piers Morgan Tonight.

In fact, on Tuesday night's Anderson Cooper 360, Cooper hosted President Obama's deputy campaign manager but did not ask her about the health care bill's predicament at the Supreme Court.

Piers Morgan's one mention of the hearings came on Tuesday night, when he asked Florida attorney general Pam Bondi -- the state's official lead plaintiff in its case against ObamaCare -- where she felt the case was going "from a legal perspective."

During WWII both the British

Submitted by Barabbus on Thu, 03/29/2012 - 1:53pm.

During WWII both the British and German press maintained a running propaganda battle against each other in their respective newspapers. One night the Brits launched a massive bombing run involving hundreds of bombers against a munitions factory in western Germany. After a time, the British announced that they had completely obliterated it. The German papers claimed that they had missed it entirely by miles. And had dropped all their bombs on a German farm instead, and that the only casualty of the whole raid was the farmer's cow. At least, that's what they claimed. The British papers dutifully noted what the German press was claiming. They then summarized that: "Our reconnaissance photos show that "the cow" burned for 3 days."
Piers....Anderson....the cow hit on Monday is still burning.

and barely mentions it as well. Of course, most of what she says makes me think she should see a geriatrician but it could simply be an intelligence issue.

I'm sure NB can chronicle the number of hours CNN's primetimers spent covering the healthcare debate, and maybe even more relevant the number of hours covering the passage and signing of the bill. My guess is when this thing goes down in the June announcement, they'll mention it, tie it to Romney, then spend as much or more time telling us how this suddenly benefits Obama's re-election chances.

AC: "No, really, folks. Seriously. This is good for him. No. I'm not kidding. Stop laughing. I really mean it, Obama will probably win -why are you laughing?- in a landslide because -stop laughing!- of this. What is wrong with you people? Can't you see <foot stomp> how <foot stomp> much <foot stomp> better <foot stomp> his <foot stomp> chances are now? Stop laughing at me!!"

Coopers' Plan

Submitted by Jerry Mack on Thu, 03/29/2012 - 10:26pm.

His theory is that if he ignores it, it will go away and everything will be fine in Liberal Town. But perhaps he got a call from the White House.

I like Anderson

Submitted by TSM on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 3:22pm.

Hate me, but I like CNN. I really like Wolf Blitzer and John King. I like Anderson too. I think the reason Anderson is not devoting any time to the Health Care hearings is because his show is going a little off the rocker as far as theTrayvon case. Actually way off their rocker. I liked it when Anderson would report on Syria and in fact was about the only show that was giving Syria the attention it deserved. Now he has Marsha Clark doing commentary on the Trayvon case. It's ruining his show. First, it's long drawn out and boring. Second and worse, his show is trying the case in the media versus leaving the Grand Jury to do their job.

Anderson is better than this, and I think less of him now.
