CNN Questions Santorum's Appeal to Women Voters Given His 'Ultra-Conservative' Positions
CNN's Zoraida Sambolin questioned Rick Santorum's appeal with women voters nationwide as she targeted his "ultra-conservative" positions that "some women don't relate to," on Wednesday's Early Start.
Sambolin challenged Santorum's success among women voters in the deep south by noting that nationwide he lags behind President Obama in a recent poll of women voters. [Video below the break.]
"But he [Santorum] has some ultra-conservative stances there that some women don't relate to," Sambolin insisted. Would she be willing to admit that the recent HHS birth control mandate is a liberal policy that "some" women would find offensive?
Before Sambolin interjected, her guest Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America had made that very point. "If you look at the CBS/New York Times polling, though, over what the President did on the HHS mandate, not even women supported him on that," she stated.
A transcript of the segment, which aired on March 14 on Early Start at 5:35 a.m. EDT, is as follows:
ZORAIDA SAMBOLIN: All right. Penny, you endorse Santorum, and you're a woman. So, I want to get your reaction to this. Santorum won the vote of women last night. So, let's take a look at it. In Alabama, he won 38 percent of the vote, in Mississippi 35 percent. But overall, southern states are more conservative, and if you look at the latest New York Times/CBS poll, women voters, 50 percent of them go to Obama to Santorum's 40 percent. Is this going to be a looming problem ahead as we go to less conservative states?
PENNY NANCE, conservative commentator: I don't think so. Actually, you know, Rick, as you said, did very, very well with women and very well with the youth vote. Right now, the candidates in the Republican primary are taking it to each other. They need to take the fight to Obama. If you look at the CBS/New York Times polling, though, over what the President did on the HHS mandate, not even women supported him on that.
So, the new rhetoric from the Obama campaign has been now reaching out to women. They realize I think, that they blew it last week. You're going to see more work for women, but you know, I think this is not a race yet against Obama. When Santorum takes it to Obama, I think he'll do very well.
Women view him as being very authentic. He's a family man. He's someone that – very relatable. He's the Wal-Mart candidate. And that's what --
(Crosstalk)
SAMBOLIN: But he has some ultra-conservative stances there that some women don't relate to.
NANCE: Yes. In married women, when you break it out – women are not monolithic. You know that. Women are – we can't just be one segment. Married women do – Santorum does very well with married women and women with children. So, you know, it's not one or the other. I think you're going to see him do very well overall with women when it comes down to a vote between he and Barack Obama.

is that he would never use the offensive language of the left.
More importantly, he won't allow the muslim world to walk all over us.

By ultra-conservative, Sambolin means policies that leave people to their own devices, where both men and women have a fighting chance of finding a mate, getting married, having kids, and raising a family, and leading self-sufficient lifestyles that foster self-worth and happiness. You know, the biologically programmed instincts that have helped people live happy lives for thousands of years.
Liberals have already destroyed the lives and made dependent their largest voting block, and they are well along the way of doing the same to other segments of America to perpetuate their political power.

Smart girls marry men who will make a good parent. I'd liken him to someone like myself; we don't need public help governing our domestic affairs. I doubt he appeals to teachers, social workers, custody and divorce lawyers, shelters workers, police and corrections officers, dog catchers and rehab counselors. Half the voters prefer him, and the rest of us, to behave like pond scum.
Have to disagree with CJohnson.

I would have to disagree with you on the police and correctional officers CJ.
Having been involved with the criminal justice system for 2 plus decades, at both the State and County levels, I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of Police, Fire, and Corrections workers are very Conservative, especially when it comes to Family issues.
While I can only site my personal observations with regards to my surety regarding this subject I feel very confident that they accurately reflect how the majority of Police Fire and Corrections employees feel.
I recant

Okay. No generalizations but I so dislike seeing police settling domestic squabbles and family fights.
police settling domestic disputes..?

I can assure you that the last call any peace officer wants to get is responding to a domestic dispute. The entire atmosphere is too volatile and you are as likely to be attacked by the victim as you are the perpetrator.
That being said the police only respond to calls that they receive. Its not like they are patrolling around looking for a family disputes to involve themselves in.
Not sure if thats what you meant by seeing police "settling domestic squabbles" but I can assure you that they would much prefer that adults act like adults and settle their domestic disputes without assaulting each other or causing a public disturbance.

This is just more political stereotyping by the left. The need to pound it into the brains of the masses that a person's politics is determined by their affiliation with a particular demographic group. This is fascism (from Italian -"fascio" meaning 'group')
They do this because deep down they know that if they ever had to win elections based on the validity of their ideas rather than on their ability to brainwash certain demographic groups into almost monolithic support, they'd be finished.

I'm so disgustipated with the Dem Libtards, that even if the Reps are running Bozo the Clown and for VP, his pal Butchy Boy, I'm pulling the lever for the Reps!
I quit the Rep Party over George H.W. Bush, and have never regretted it. I've voted split ticket since then; whoever was my "best" in the slot got my vote.
No more! I won't even read the name of the Dem Dog Catcher in the local elections. I'm voting straight Rep, which I have not done since Ronald Reagan.
I'm not a Republican, but I'm down for voting with them. They haven't lied to me like Obama has!

Yeah, I know. Anything related to national socialism is bad.... Sad that the cheerleaders in what passes for the "press" these days haven't a clue.

Let's see... parents who grieved over a child dead shortly after childbirth and who diligently and compassionately care for their Trisomy 18 child well past most predictions of survival compared to a a couple whose father says he doesn't want his daughters "punished with a baby" and a mother who publicly humiliates her daughter as being fat.
Yeah, tough choice.

Yeah? Well, suppose we changed a couple of words around.
SAMBOLIN: But Obama has some ultra-liberal stances there that some women don't relate to.
We're talking about half the population. Pick any politician and you find some women who agree wholeheartedly, some who are frightened, and women who are all up and down the spectrum between those points. So CNN, why should all women be put off by Santorum's "ultra-conservative" views?

He knows what Monogamy means
Submitted by wingnut55 on Thu, 03/15/2012 - 12:51am.
Unlike the men in the liberal side Rick Santorum knows that monogamy is not some kind of wood. He is faithful to his wife. Women realize that he treats his wife like the lady, that she is. Liberal women find this refreshing. They are used to husbands like Bill Clinton, Ted, Robert and John Kennedy to name a few.

Liberal women......claim complete equality with men unless they have an opinion based on their sex, which includes damn-near everything. And they still don't see the break in logic......otherwise known as hypocrisy. Silly, silly, liberal women......Sambolin is no exception and will be all pissy for not being taken seriously. There...I said it!

What an 'ultra conservative' means?
Having heard this term many times without any definition makes no sense. Whenever this term is used by someone, they need to be asked what it means to them. At this point in time, it is a meaningless pajoritive that is simply used to attack people without ever mentioning any actual issue or position.
I am not referring to only people on the left. Some people who claim to be 'in the middle', like Bill O'Reilly, regularly use this term to bash people they do not like without ever defining it in any way.
This position will be labeled "ultra-conservative"
Submitted by Kingfish17 on Fri, 03/16/2012 - 8:40am.
Here's a position of Santorum's that will probably get labeled as "ultra-conservative": Enforcing laws against illegal pornography. Although many on the right might say that telling adults what they can and can not do in their personal lives is usually reserved to "ultra-liberals". I've often times viewed the Left vs. Right spectrum, not as a linear thing, but more of a circular spectrum, where extreme views on either end tend to blend and result in the same outcomes.
