WashPost's 'Conservative' Blogger Rubin Scolds Santorum to 'Grow Up" and 'Stop Whining' About Liberal Media Bias
The Washington Post's "conservative" blogger is now telling Republicans to shut up and move on from their complaints of a liberal media double standard. The Post's Jennifer Rubin told all the GOP candidates to "grow up" on CNN's Reliable Sources on Sunday.
"These candidates should grow up, get their message out," she ranted, emphasizing that conservative candidates have grown "obsessed" over the media's liberal treatment. [Video below the break. Click here for audio.]
She also hit candidate Rick Santorum's positions as "really far outside even the mainstream of the Republican Party" and defended the media's scrutiny of him as "very fair game." Even CNN's Howard Kurtz was cautious to give the media a pass, saying they need to be "careful" about a double standard.
"There's lots of other media outlets for them to get out their message out," Rubin said of the Republican candidates. She didn't clarify if any of those outlets had audience numbers in the ballpark of the three major networks and the major newspapers.
CBS News contributor Scott Conroy also defended the media backlash against comments made by Santorum's big financial supporter Foster Friess, even though Santorum claimed he was not responsible for things said by a supporter of his. "He's much more than a supporter," Friess stated. Would Conroy be willing to say the same of liberal billionaire George Soros and President Obama?
A brief transcript of the segment is as follows:
JENNIFER RUBIN, "Right Turn" blogger, Washington Post: Yes, but it is very fair game to talk about his own statements and his own positions which are really far outside even the mainstream of the Republican Party.
HOWARD KURTZ, host, CNN's Reliable Sources: And what about his double standard charge?
RUBIN: You know, that's for people like you and me to talk about. He's a candidate. And he should stop whining about the media's double standards. I think the candidates have gotten, particularly on the right, and I will talk to my friends on the right, have gotten obsessed with this. Ronald Reagan won the presidency twice with no FOX News, with no talk radio, with no blogs. These candidates should grow up, get their message out. And you know what? There's lots of other media outlets for them to get out their message out.
KURTZ: Well, you're saying we're not all that powerful, but at the same time, I do think we have to be careful about holding candidates of different parties to the same standard.

It's harder to get the message out if the messengers hate you.

Of course, Jen, if you were a conservative you might've picked up on that by now.

I have listened to Jennifer Rubin before and she is a real conservative and not a fake one like the gal that hosted the show with Spitzer
I disagree with her and it is always a good idea to point out hypocrisy. I think this more stems from the fact she does not agree with his social views.
She's a conservative???....

....can't be...she's Fugly!! She sounds a little like Anita Dunn too. And why is it that the MSM double standard is only something for those in the media to talk about? What we need is strong backboned conservatives out there to call them out on it and often!!
That is an excellent point

In order to be a true conservative woman you have to look hot ;-)

I can tell you there are no real conservatives outside the rare OpEd from the stock right wing writers. They may pass off a columnist as conservative but they are far from it. They may even appear conservative in comparison to the kneejerk left wing sycophants infesting the rest of the rag but they are not conservative.
So conservative she was pro-Kerry in 2004

Jennifer Rubin was so conservative she was pro-Kerry in 2004. Mark Levin, who has a couple of decades of conservative credibility, on Rubin:

So you came to that conclusion

By facts or hearsay? Did she actually publicly endorse Kerry or was this the opinion of somebody that spent time with her?
If you have to ask the question . . .

Shawn, if you have to ask the question, maybe your definition of conservative is way too stretchy.
Imagine Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Thomas Sowell or Brent Bozell being pro-Kerry even in private conversation in 2004. If you leave the impression that you are pro-Kerry in conversation either you really are pro-Kerry or you don't know how to articulate conservative thought. In either case being a conservative spokesman isn't the job for you.
Rubin has been an attack dog
Submitted by redfish on Mon, 02/20/2012 - 2:25pm.
Rubin has been an attack dog for Romney. When Gingrich was Romney's main competitor, she did a column, or several columns, attacking Gignrich a day. Now she's doing the same thing for Santorum.

I would recommend to all to look at the last three months of Rubin's Blog at The Post. Normally, she writes 3 to 4 Blogs per day. During that time period, Rubin has been blogging mostly about Romney's wonderfulness as a candidate while attacking Gingrich and Santorum constantly. She's another Romney toady sycophant like Ann Coulter and has lost all creditably in her myopic opinions of the Republican nomination process.
Well, good for Kurtz to say

Well, good for Kurtz to say that last comment. Two things about her claims. She needs to remember Santorum is not requesting softballs like his competitors, he is simply requesting they all get hardballs, as he does. There's a big difference.
About the Reagan reference. The press was not nearly as biased back then, or at least they attempted not to be. Back in those days, when the conservatives cried foul, the libs got all up in arms saying "how dare they accuse us of favortism". Now, they don't even deny it. Because it's so bad they can't even deny it with a straight face.

Obsessed? Did she really say "OBSESSED"? She's giving away the fact that the RINO establishment is all in a lather about attacks on the media. They prefer to try to placate them when in fact such tactics always lead to defeat.

Sorry, Shawn but that's complete nonsense. Maybe Moderate but definitely not Conservative. Hint ""really far outside even the mainstream of the Republican Party" You don't have to agree with Santorum to know this statement is complete BS. How can anyone possibly back this statement up or call themselves Conservative? Clue: They can't. The majority of Americans and certainly Republicans and definitely not Conservatives are NOT socially Left-wing. And any attempt to make it seem otherwise just makes people look like liars or just plain stupid.

Did a fine job pretending to have been a conservative when she was on Commentary. I thought it was impressive that a labor lawyer could have been bright enough to see the light of conservatism. How wrong I was! She's as left as all the rest of the labor goons. It's unfair of AWPO to call her anything but a fellow traveler of themselves. Nowadays it seems she's being paid by Romney instead of the AFL/CIO.

"The Washington Post had a big problem. It failed, twice, at hiring a proper “Conservative blogger,” a commodity every newspaper website needs. Its first hire was a plagiarist, and then it accidentally hired a reporter who wasn’t conservative enough. The third time, it got someone directly from the neocon Weekly Standard Commentary, ensuring her bona fides. The only problem with Jennifer Rubin as a “conservative blogger,” though, is that while she’s most definitely a Republican, she doesn’t seem invested in any conservative issues, bar foreign policy."

Jennifer Rubin is no conservative and she is a hack. But she does have a point. Santorum does himself no good by whining about the liberal media.
Instead, Santorum should just make the liberal media irrelevant. Whether it's a debate or an interview, when some liberal media hack asks an inane question about contraception, he should just respond with "16 trillion dollars. That's the current US federal debt." By ignoring the stupid question and immediately changing the subject to something important, he would gain control of the situation.
Obama's greatest weakness is the economy, and that's where the GOP candidates should remain focused. Regardless of what question is asked, the response should be a comment on Obama's failed economic policies. Over and over and over........
