CNN Host Grills Tony Perkins Over Beating of Homosexual Man

By Matt Hadro | February 09, 2012 | 19:01

A  A

In his Thursday interview of the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins, CNN host Don Lemon questioned Perkins if his group had come out strongly enough against the beating of a homosexual man in Atlanta.

The conservative organization opposes the lifestyle of homosexuality, and Lemon is an openly-gay anchor who has said before that he aims to "change minds" through his reporting. Lemon has continually promoted gay rights on the air while largely ignoring those supporting the other side of the issue. [Video below the break.]

He told Perkins that "you and the Family Research Council believe homosexuality is a sin and you're against gay rights," before asking "But doesn't that young man have the right to his own personal safety?" Apparently, the FRC's stand against homosexuality invites a legitimate charge that it advocates violence.

Lemon followed that up by grilling Perkins over not issuing a press release condemning the attack – as if the organization, because they don't issue individual press releases for each violent anti-gay incident, can thus be questioned about being anti-gay.

"But when you hear what happened there on the street and you hear the gay slurs that those attackers are shouting, are you concerned though that you're not doing enough to mitigate this sort of hatred like this because when things like this happen, there is no press release from the Family Research Council that condemns this sort of behavior?" Lemon absurdly asked.

Perkins, meanwhile, condemned the act of violence and defended the victim's right to protection. "I don't put out press releases when there's another crime committed. I mean, that's not what we do. That's not what we're focused on. We're focused on public policy as it pertains to the family," he answered Lemon.

Do you put out a press release when you go to the toilet, Don?

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 7:03pm.

What a moronic question. Any group that puts out a press release for everything is showing that it has no agenda but seeking attention. We used to call that "group therapy" for attention-seeking personality disorder patients.

In 2008, I learned that race

Submitted by Immortal Fish on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:02pm.

In 2008, I learned that race trumps gender by watching Obeyme vs. Hillary.

In 2012, I learned that sexual proclivity trumps race by watching Pink vs. Rotund Martin.

So, to recap...

Homosexuality > Race > Gender

Don Lemon scores with the hat trick.

Oh, sorry... pardon my lemonade making.

Evil evil evil Christians...

Submitted by Radical1979 on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:39pm.

However, I was unaware that Christians were against the gay people having the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Who knew?

By the way, next time there's black on white crime I want someone to interview Sharpton, Lemon, whoever, and ask if they're doing enough to mitigate black on white hatred.

Why didn't Lemon do this spot

Submitted by bkeyser on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 10:19pm.

from the Pittsburgh neighborhood right there in Atlanta? I think he should head on down there for a man-on-the-street interview. Maybe Roland Martin could accompany him; wearing pink H&M's, of course.

More importantly, does Lemon think a press release from the FRC would convince these all-black, homophobic gangs to suddenly express a fondness for the ghey?

Change minds?

Submitted by Herbster on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 10:45pm.

So, Mr. Lemon's job is to change minds? Not to read the news? First of all, anyone who watches this lightweight, affirmative action twofer has no mind. Case closed!

CNN the “Onion”

Strange? Did you know the NFL, MLB, NBA along with the Olympic comity also did not issue a press release condemning the attack. Also MADD did not issue a press release condemning the attack Nor did the CTA, not sure about the teamsters. It would appear Lemon's/CNN dance card will be full as he now has to bring in every group organization in America and grill them as to their lack of a press release condemning the attack. But why stop there?

I think we can now call CNN the “Onion”

Will he also ask Jessie

Submitted by cristo on Fri, 02/10/2012 - 9:52am.

Will he also ask Jessie Jackson and Al Shrapton about the attack? What about Eric Holder? Or Mr. Obama? Oprah? Did any of them issue a press release?

Questions ... questions ...

Submitted by Flashman on Fri, 02/10/2012 - 6:07pm.

Someone should have asked Tony Perkins why CNN chose to not report on the death of 13 year old Jesse Dirkhising who was tortured, sodomized and suffocated to death at the hands of two gay men. Does CNN condone this activity? If not why not? Do they actively support gay child predation? We have a right to know.
