CNN Sympathizes With Another DREAM Act Supporter

By Matt Hadro | February 01, 2012 | 20:15

A  A

Once again, CNN sympathized with an illegal immigrant supporting the largely Democratic-sponsored DREAM Act. Anchor Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday hailed "DREAMer" Mayra Hidalgo who blistered Republicans for their rigidity on immigration.

Baldwin let Hidalgo air this message to certain Republican candidates: "Do you even have a heart?" The immigrant directed her ire at Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney for saying an illegal immigrant would have to serve in the military to earn citizenship. "You're messing with people's lives," she ranted. [Video below the break. Click here for audio.]

Of course, nowhere in the story was a conservative voice opposing the DREAM Act, just soundbites from Hidalgo airing her side of the story.

"As a child of immigrants, as – an immigrant myself, I feel like my role has always been to go to school, work really hard, and have a career. And that's what I want to do, but it's so difficult when you don't have a legal status," Hidalgo lamented.

"Do you understand that, you know, these aren't just those illegals? We're humans, we're people here," she cried out at Gingrich and Romney. "There are other ways to serve this country. Just being a doctor, being an attorney – those are just as important ways to serve our country just like the military," insisted Hidalgo.

Answer - increase allowed

Answer - increase allowed number of legal immigrants per year

Non-starter - break our laws, then wail against a country that allows more immigration than any country in the world.

illegals

Submitted by kinijane on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 8:23pm.

Amazes me how many liberals don't know the definition of Illegal.
If I break any law, I would be busted and the key thrown away, but
hey I am an American born and raised here so I am fair game.

I am sick of this crap.....

Submitted by djwolf12 on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 8:28pm.

Earth to Americans......find out everyone who is in this country illegally and kick their asses out of here!!!!!! I am so sick and tired of the media trumpeting the plight of people that shouldn't be here in the first place. I have a hard enough time supporting myself and my family. I don't need to listen to someone who is mooching off of our system telling me (or a political candidate) how much they are heartless. Screw the illegals.

Dude!

Submitted by ArcherB on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 9:36am.

The DREAM Act, at least how it works in Texas, is not intended to be a path to citizenship for people sneaking over the border. The Texas DREAM Act is for the kids of these people, who were dragged over here by their parents. These people were raised here, went to school here, and only speak English. By the way, in Texas schools and everything else are paid for by property and sales taxes... taxes you can't escape, so yes, they did pay taxes.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for securing the border and enforcing immigration laws by deporting those that break them. So, I'm all for deporting the parents who sneaked over here as adults, but I have a hard time branding someone "illegal" and shipping them back to country where they have no roots and don't speak the language, who really didn't break any laws. A five year old with her parents when her parents are committing a crime is not a criminal. No court in the country would prosecute that child. Why are we?

Children should not have to pay for the crimes of their parents.

We shouldn't even be having

Submitted by ant on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 10:59am.

We shouldn't even be having this discussion until the American people can be assured that the border is secure enough that we aren't going to be doing this all over again with another 5-10 million people down the road.

On top of that, another one of the big lies here in the news piece is that we have to help those that have been here for generations...since Reagan gave amnesty thirty years ago, as one poster said, a generation should already be legal. Plus, if they've been here for generations and still need 'help' maybe they are beyond helping. I've been here for generations too, when do I get special compensation? Or are the libs gonna start another lie, 'they're just going to the schools Americans don't want to go to.' We already know they get drivers licenses AND go to school, this is a veiled attempt to hand out goodies in exchange for votes..as evidenced by the 'Republicans are against immigrants' nonsense.

Generations?

Submitted by ArcherB on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 12:21pm.

Yeah, that "generations" of illegals got to me too. I confidently call BS on that since the first generation born here would be natural born citizens and NOT illegal. The only generation of illegals in this country is the generation that came here in the first place.

Submitted by Sude23 on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 10:34pm.

That is so true. It's really obvious when they refuse to speak english when they get here. What about a few years ago when they were talking about the "illegal immagration" thing they were all protesting saying they wanted to stay in America but all I saw was a bunch of people parading around with the Mexican flag and not the American flag. Kinda makes you wonder whose side they are on...

How bout we let immigrants join the military then after honorable service for 4 years they can go to the front of the immigrant line?......... Oh wait that's what we have done for the last 30 years what was I thinking

So this is an openly admitted illegal alien, does that mean immigration services will be knocking on the door to deport her and her family? All correct

Submitted by ant on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 12:24am.

And this is part of what creates a resentment in me, speaking for myself, I recall on two occasions reports of 'Revenue' agents descending on Libertarian Party conventions to take down license plates, etc. A reporter (who must have been considered a 'heretic' afterward) broadcasting about an illegal alien rally full of Mexican flags a few years back, commented out loud about that exact dicrepency in 'law-enforcement'. If you're a citizen you can get busted for everything from trimming your bushes (EPA actually did that), letting your children sell lemonade, or doing home repairs (one poor soul documented his fight between building code enforcement AND a historic preservation agency, over his front porch)....but, hey, be an illegal trespasser with undying devotion to your country of origin...no problem. Not only will you not get busted...but here's some free sh*t.

Please name the Republican who is against legal immigration?

To those who ignorantly spout our immigration system is broken and needs reform, I say bull our legal immigration system is ignored!
AS Mayra Hidalgo makes it clear no reform will work, it will just be ignored. Need proof? Just ask Mayra Hidalgo for a copy of her immigration application along with the rejection letter. I would bet $10K she has neither.

My parents knew some of the illegals

Submitted by stunned on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 1:06am.

My parents knew people that came here illegally from Ireland and they and their legal immigrant friends were quite mad when Reagan gave them amnesty. The people that came illegally, worked, owned businesses and never paid taxes and bragged how they lived better the the legals. They shamelessly played the system and finally got amnesty as a reward and boy did that burn my Dad. He said those that came here illegally never respected our government or its laws. They broke more than immigration laws as well, in business and were people NOT to be trusted as they moved on and changed the buisness's name after conning people, and he often warned people to stay far away from doing business with people like that since their lives revolved around lies and deceit they were corrupt. They often bragged they lived better than those born here by not having to pay any taxes.
But they all lined up for the anmnesty and complained AFTER getting citizenship about having to pay the "damn taxes" and that citizenship wasn't worth it. One guy bragged after getting his citizenship about all the dodges he pulled afterward to avoid jury duty and told my Dad he was an idiot for being mad at someone dodging their responsiblities. My parents spent 8 and 6 years waiting to come here and my father said that he never took a day in America for granted and people never appreciate something they get for nothing, unlike the illegals who had only contempt for our country and its laws.
Dad loved Reagan but at the time of the his amnesty plan he said he called him a bloody fool and said in thirty years there would be twice as many illegals in the country. Dear ole Dad was right as usual.

No. You people don't have a heart.

Submitted by The Vet on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 1:09am.

Don't your realize there are millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of people that will come here illegally but are denied the chance because their country does not physically share a border with the United States?

Please. Have a heart everyone. Let's relax the standards to board an airplane or ship to come to the United States. That way our illegal population will have more of a melting pot feel and not be predominantly Mexican because Mexico shares a long border with the United States and you simply have to walk across line in the dirt to arrive illegally.

Please. Have a heart. Let the illegals face some competition when they tug the emotional heartstrings. It is not fair that Mexicans illegals have the monopoly on sad stories.

Let anyone board an airplane to come here without any paperwork. Let's hear some sad stories from an Indonesian illegal for once. Or a Maldivian. Yeah, a Maldivian sad story. Not enough of those We need more Maldivian sad stories from CNN.

Wow! Do these people have a brain?

Thousands of Americans have been KILLED by illegals. There are rapes, extortions, fraud, kidnappings, and assaults. Not to mentions the billions of our tax money that is given away to them in the form of free schools, hospital, legal fees, incarcerations and welfare.

What? these people live in an alternate reality?

And did you know..

Submitted by ant on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 2:36am.

I saw this with my own eyes on actual arrest records and it was confirmed by a former FBI agent that wrote a book on law enforcement... Hispanics that are victims of crime are categorized as 'hispanic'. Hispanics (illegally speaking) that commit crimes are reported as 'white'. The agent explained how 'hate-crime' statistics are terribly and deliberately skewed.

If a Hispanic attacks a Hispanic. It's a hate crime committed by a 'white' against a hispanic. If a Hispanic attacks a black person. It's a hate crime committed by a 'white' against a 'black'. They don't want people to be enraged by the real numbers.
