CNN's Cafferty Suggests Gingrich Is 'Clueless' About African-Americans

By Matt Hadro | January 18, 2012 | 00:36

A  A

Borrowing from a liberal Daily Beast column, CNN's Jack Cafferty set about asking if Newt Gingrich was ignorant and "clueless" about the African-American community, on Tuesday's The Situation Room.

Cafferty dropped the bomb right at the start as he matter-of-factly stated that "Newt Gingrich is clueless when it comes to African-Americans" before backing away and attributing the argument to the Daily Beast's Peter Beinart. Beinart has also been the editor of the liberal New Republic magazine, so Cafferty was not doing his credibility any favors by quoting someone who very well might have a liberal agenda in attacking the Republican candidate.

While scolding Gingrich's conduct at Monday's GOP debate in South Carolina, Cafferty made sure to emphasize that Gingrich was a "native Georgian" speaking on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to a "mostly-white crowd." Race-baiting, anyone?

And during the segment, the smears grew progressively more blatant. The CNN commentator quoted Beinart that the GOP is a "cultural and intellectual bubble" and adding that such words are "not very encouraging for the Republican Party when it comes to trying to get blacks to vote for them" – as if Beinart's liberal opinion is a credible key voice in the matter.

And what does Jackass Cafferty know about African-Americans?

Submitted by drsamherman on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 12:57am.

Another old liberal guilt rich white jerk trying to play the racism card.

Good gravy. These has-beens and never-weres in the liberal mainstream media are coming out of the woodwork faster than roaches in a cheap motel right before the exterminator arrives.

Race? What have Dems done for African Americans????

Submitted by merly1 on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 1:25am.

The bloc support of A-A
for the modern Democrat party is life's biggest mystery for me. The urban warfare and poverty, where
urban murders and urban abortions have truly deprived America of 10 (ten) million or more potentially productive
minority citizens, is a creation of the last two generations. Right?
While I usually dont support nor can even voice Holocaust comparisons, the unwavering support by A-A of the Dems--> would be akin to a fantasy past where a fantasy Jewish demographic would have remained a fantasy Nazi party's biggest supporters. In reality, the latter resisted or fled whenever possible, but today's reality is mindboggling
as A-A endlessly support Dem policies that have decimated our urban areas.
Just as oddly, Gingrich is even attacked for suggesting minority groups want jobs/paychecks
rather than welfare checks. Does anybody understand this 21st century phenomenon? I don't.

Cafferty made sure to emphasize that Gingrich was a "native Georgian" speaking on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to a "mostly-white crowd."
The writer seems to put forth the concept that ONLY whites were allowed in the room to hear Gingrich.
I can safely say that no blacks were turned away, and that there probably were a few (if not may) blacks in attendance.

Oh, yeah, race baiting indeed.

There were a few blacks in the crowd

Submitted by Bodini on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 8:32am.

There were a few blacks in the crowd including most of Newt's security detail, but what do you expect when 95% of the black community are stuck on the Marxist-Demwit Plantation. I hereby declare that the NAACP is a racist organization because I don't see very many whites attending their meetings!

Submitted by ricklail on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 2:34pm.

Most of the blacks were at Ebenzer Baptist Church listening to Valerie Jarrett trash Republicans in direct violation of the church's 501 (3) (c) status.

I guess I don't get it either

Submitted by TheHistorian on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 6:18am.

I didn't see the robes, hear the cries of "n**", or anything else in the room. So I guess the fact that a speech was made by a Georgia resident on ML King Day (a FEDERAL holiday, not a BLACK holiday only) to a group of blacks and whites is a racist event?

Maybe Newt's problem is that he didn't go out and get Al Sharpton to warm up the crowd for him. When was the last time that guy drew a "mostly white" audience? All you wind up with in Sharpton's audience are the White Guilt crowd and people who think that the African in African-American is the important word.

I guess racism is where you don't play to a black audience and show your "white guilt"? If so, racism is rampant on every street corner in this nation.

I thought that Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted a society based on the content of men, and not on the color of their skin. In that case, Jack, YOU are the racist because you noticed and tried to use skin color as a wedge issue.

Well, you know those native

Submitted by motherbelt on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 7:42am.

Well, you know those native Georgians.....they're all racists. Isn't that where "Gone With the Wind" took place? Well, there you have it!  The cradle of slavery!

Oh, right, Jack.....the way to get blacks to vote for one is not to offer a hand up, it's to supposedly recognize  that they have to be taken care of....you know. like those "darkies" on Tara and Twelve Oaks.

Who's the racist here?

⇒ Barack Schettino Obama

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 9:16am.

While piloting his cruise ship perilously close to the shore of Kenyan Marxism, President Barack Schettino Obama, as the hull begins to scrape along the rocks below, suddenly realizes he's made a boatload of money playing class and race warfare.

Submitted by MidAmerica on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 7:43am.

I bet that the people who give Cafferty any credence are old White liberals.  When he comes on I doubt the audience for BET takes a big drop.

Submitted by BBallleaper on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 7:54am.

they are NOT from Africa. They were born right here in YOUR Democratically-controlled inner-city slave plantation hell holes you stay out of. Stop with the A-A crap. They are Americans, regardless of their level of pigmentation. It's racist ass-wipes like you who are consumed by the color of one's skin. Frankly, Conservatives never even think about it. Your party, the DemonRats, are the party of racist hate and YOU know it, but now you hide behind your pretentiousness. Go run over some helpless guy on a bike you hit and run drunk. And change that pee-stained underwear once in a while. You know your mommy doesn't like it.

⇒ But Joe Biden sure knows

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 8:17am.

During the last campaign, before being being chosen by Candidate Obama, Joe Biden proclaimed Black kids are stupid, and the Democrat establishment embraced the remark.

“There’s less than one percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than four of five percent that are minorities. What is in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with.”- Joe Biden

Cafferty are you asking if

Submitted by ohio granny on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 10:21am.

Are you saying African Americans are lazy? Are you suggesting they would rather have food stamps than jobs? I think you are the racist. I believe most African Americans would rather have jobs to feed, clothe and house their familes than to have to depend on the government to live. I can't imagine African Americans are any different than other Americans who would rather work than take handouts from government.

Democrat party = the racist party.

Newt hit on the head

Submitted by Redrowan2000 on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 12:50pm.

When he asked how The I 73 corridor that Obama called a disgrace during his campaign has fared under Obama? The answer was obvious. The same may be said for large urban communities like Newark, Detroit, Cleveland etc., Have things gotten better for black people under Obama in these cities?
Jack Cafferty will take any opportunity to bash the Republican party. Do they list him as a journalist for CNN? Or an incoherent old man with a left leaning agenda?

Cafferty and CNN

Submitted by hughg on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 1:23pm.

I never ascribe to anything DNN purports. They remind me of the reason the KKK was really formed. I personally have seen a cross burning in my childhood. Later my dad told me that the group did this for the benefit of my drunkard cousin who had been abusing his wife and children. He was taken behind his own barn and beaten with a tree stick and advised never to act in the manner he had been. That was the only activity I personally observed in rural GA. I was raised in an atmosphere that TRULY never
judged anyone by race. We had to depend on each other for support. There was no EMT or 911 in that day. A lady kept me when my mom hemorrhaged after returning home with my younger sister. Her name was Elberta and came by foot across 3 miles of wooded , dangerous woods daily to fill where mom couldn't. She cooked and cleaned better than most and never complained. She was one of many African-Americans that contributed to my and others' welfare without question or gripe.
I said all of this so I could disqualify Cafferty as anything more than a "Daffy Duck" of cable news. His words are less meaningful because of his extreme lack of wisdom, knowledge, integrity, or redemptive value. DNN is a waste of electricity and one of the major polluters of TV bandwidth.
