Piers Morgan Agrees With Obama's 'We've Been a Little Bit Lazy' Comment
CNN's Piers Morgan agreed with President Obama's statement that Americans have "been a little bit lazy" in getting foreign investors to come to America, and fellow prime-time host Erin Burnett downplayed the significance of the line on Thursday.
Morgan's take on the quote was that "America has gone a bit soft on its production line," and he vouched for it. Burnett, on the other hand, said the quote was taken out of context and that Obama wasn't hitting workers themselves, but those who were drawing foreign investors to come to America. [Video below the break. Click here for audio.]
"The President wasn't really talking about American workers. He was talking about – well, that we haven't worked hard enough to sell America as a great place to invest," she clarified. "It's a little bit different, isn't it, Maria?" she asked, setting up Democratic strategist Maria Cardona to take shots at the Republican response.
What Burnett did not admit was that President Obama was still tossing blame at certain Americans for a slow economy which could doom his re-election bid in 2012.
Here is President Obama's statement from last Saturday at the APEC summit in Hawaii:
"A lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity, our stability, our openness, our innovative free market culture. But, you know, we've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We've kind of taken for granted, well, people will want to come here. And we aren't out there hungry selling America."

A transcript of the segments, which aired on November 17 at 9:44 p.m. and 7:16 p.m. EST, respectively, is as follows:

PIERS MORGAN TONIGHT
11/17/11
9:44 p.m. EST
PIERS MORGAN: What did you think of Barack Obama today? He said that America has gone a bit soft in its production line. It's not working as hard collectively as it used to. And as a result, the Far East is catching up and taking over. I agree with him.

ERIN BURNETT OUTFRONT
11/17/11
7:16 p.m. EST
ERIN BURNETT: Well, want to turn to the President. Obviously he is in Asia right now. But a hot topic for Republican candidates this week has been the President's remarks in Hawaii during a business summit. Here's what he said.
(Video Clip)
President BARACK OBAMA: We've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades.
(End Video Clip)
BURNETT: Okay. So now some Republicans wasted no time pouncing on that. They put some ads together calling the President's words an insult. Take a look at Perry. We'll show you the Perry ad.
(Video Clip)
Texas Gov. RICK PERRY, Republican presidential candidate: That's what our President thinks wrong with America, that Americans are lazy? That's pathetic.
(End Video Clip)
BURNETT: Okay, now let me just – let's get some facts in here. The President wasn't really talking about American workers. He was talking about – well, that we haven't worked hard enough to sell America as a great place to invest. Here's the full sound bite of what the President said.
(Video Clip)
OBAMA: A lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity, our stability, our openness, our innovative free market culture. But, you know, we've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We've kind of taken for granted, well, people will want to come here. And we aren't out there hungry selling America.
(End Video Clip)
BURNETT: It's a little bit different, isn't it, Maria?
MARIA CARDONA, Democratic strategist: It's very different, Erin.

Hey stoooooooopid........as far as I can tell, CNN - which is an American company - hired you - a foreigner!!! So what the hell are you talking about?? As usual, you're mouth is way ahead of whatever brain you have. And maybe, just maybe, you stopped to wonder WHY foreign companies are a little wary about investing here??? Hmmmmmmmmmmm???
I'm sick and tired of these foreigners telling us their opinion of us.............take FockHead and the Basher and any of your other interlopers and go back to doing weather reports in England, Turkey, or India - if you don't like the life you have here.
As far as being 'lazy'.........personally, I've had to work a LOT harder since your Boy Barry took over.......and for less!!!
Talk is cheap....Piers

Seems that Piers didn't get the talking points memo, as Oppel just devoted a column providing cover for President Obama and the whole Americans are lazy thing, saying that he was talking about "the country" and not the "people" whatever that means.
Then along comes Piers to say that 1) the President was indeed speaking about America not working hard enough ON THE PRODUCTION LINE and 2) He agreed with him that.
Oh, Morgan agrees?

It is many times harder to start a business that has anything to do with manufacturing in this country than in many many others around the world. And that doesn't even get into the wage issue and the taxes.
Take a famous example from current events...Solyndra. They couldn't afford to make their solar panels in this country and knew it before even applying for the Dept. of Energy loan. It is cheaper to make them over in China and pay the shipping costs than it is to make them here.
Environmentally it is almost impossible to get any type of manufacturing or industrial project off the ground. Look at the Keystone Pipeline fiasco... 3 years of environmental "studies" to show waht impact it would have on the Oglala watershed when there are already 48 other pipelines running accross or throught it now.
And now we have an administration who is demonizing the "rich" and saying that they are making too much money and need to pay more taxes. News flash for the geniuses inside the D.C. beltway...the rich are the ones who invest in things and start new businesses. Why would a foreign company want to subject themselves to this environment when they can make more $$$ by simply importing their gioods to sell here?

British Socialism. . . It's Our Fault
Submitted by JustAl on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 3:15pm.
The socialist Britain this clown comes from was started when they kicked Churchill to the curb (after fighting a long, costly war against. . . National Socialism) and used their Marshall Plan money to build cheap, crowded public housing. It's interesting to contrast Britain today with Germany, who used their Marshall Plan money to re-build their industry.
So, we gave the socialists in Britain seed money. Add to that the fact that for most of our history (perhaps even today), the country who's citizens own the highest share of foreign owned US companies is. . . Britain. Factor in the impossible to determine, but likely sizable private investments British subjects have made and profited from in US equity markets, and the picture becomes pretty clear, even without consideration of the portion of their defense we've subsidized. And nevermind the money making it's way to the exchequer as the result of the US being Britain's biggest trading partner.
British socialism has only been possible because of US capitalism. Individuals like Morgan are so ignorant of that fact that they now propose that the mule pulling the wagon hop up on it to ride! Arrogance of the magnitude exhibited by the left can only be born of a disconnect from reality.
