Tom Brokaw: Obama's Resurgence 'Lazarus-like'
The panel on Wednesday's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC gushed over President Obama's recent legislative success, and former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw likened Obama's resurgence to Lazarus rising from the dead.
"It looked like the day after the election that [Obama] was on his way back to Chicago. Now suddenly he has arisen, Lazarus-like, again," Brokaw attested.
The disastrous mid-term elections? They are simply a distant nightmare, the panel asserted. Co-host Joe Scarborough, as well as guest columnists Mike Barnicle and Charles Blow, stated that the election results are not news anymore. "No one's talking about that anymore," remarked Blow, a New York Times columnist, over the election.
Instead the media will be writing a different script, Scarborough suggested. "I guarantee you with all of the end-of-the-year reviews, the story is not going to be 'Obama loses 65 seats in the House,'" he predicted.
"It's going to be 'Wow, the comeback kid. Came back pretty darn quick.' Look, that's the narrative the press is going to be writing about at the end of the year," he said. Mike Barnicle added that the media has already started praising Obama. "They're already writing it, and deservedly so," he opined. "Who remembers the election at this point?
Joe Scarborough, meanwhile, thought Republican opposition to the START treaty signaled a jealous obstruction rather than sensible opposition. "I've just got to say...they really don't have a good substantive leg to stand on," he said of the GOP opposition. "Therefore you can only assume ...that they don't want Barack Obama to have all of these successes going into the new year."
A transcript of the segment, which aired on December 22 at 7:02 a.m. EDT, is as follows:
MSNBC MORNING JOE 12/22/10 7:02 a.m. EDT
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well Tom, it is just fascinating times. The President had just a miserable eleven months, the first eleven months of 2010 could not have been worse politically for this man. And the last three weeks, though, are going to give him victories that he can ride into the New Year.
TOM BROKAW: For the 250 millionth time, I'll remind you of my favorite theory in American politics, the UFO theory – the unforseeable occurs. This is a perfect example of that. It looked like the day after the election that he was on his way back to Chicago. Now suddenly he has arisen, Lazarus-like, again. And the 9/11 bill will be another test of that.
(...)
JOE SCARBOROUGH: I've got to say, though, Charles, given the choice between going into the New Year with stories talking about how your party lost 63 seats in the House and were brutalized in senate and governors campaigns, this is preferable.
CHARLES BLOW: No one's talking about that anymore.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, no one's talking about it anymore.
BLOW: Nothing succeeds like success in America, and it is – the momentum of that success is what Barack Obama is experiencing right now, and you don't even have – Mitch McConnell said, what? The next two years or so, we're going to make you play by our rules. But the Presidential campaign starts next month.
SCARBOROUGH: Right.
BLOW: So the – he doesn't have to – enough success, enough momentum coming into that first part of the year – any successes that they deliver him, he can run on those. It's really hard for a body, for Congress to say "We did something." McConnell – as much as we may know him around this table, the people don't know him. And when the Republican nominees start to emerge, they become the face, not McConnell.
MSNBC MORNING JOE 12/22/10 8:09 a.m. EDT
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well first of all, the Republicans would prefer this taking place in January or February, when they have more people in the Senate. But Republicans will tell you that a tax deal has nothing to do with national defense. But-but all that being said, I just – I've just got to say, as we go through these points exhaustively as we have, these three main points exhaustively, they really don't have a good substantive leg to stand on. Therefore you can only assume – and I understand this type of feeling – that they don't want Barack Obama to have all of these successes going into the new year.
MIKE BARNICLE: That's it.
SCARBOROUGH: Because he's been knocked back on his feet with the election, but I guarantee you with all of the end-of-the-year reviews, the story is not going to be "Obama loses 65 seats in the House." It's going to be "Wow, the comeback kid. Came back pretty darn quick." Look, that's the narrative the press is going to be writing about at the end of the year.
BARNICLE: They're already writing it, and deservedly so. Look at the storyline of the past four weeks, look what the special session of Congress has done. Don't Ask Don't Tell, the START Treaty appears to be on the verge of passing today, and you've got the tax bill.
SCARBOROUGH: The massive stimulus bill –
BARNICLE: Who remembers the election at this point?

Of course the leftist lapdogs in the MSM are going to spin all the 11th hour revenge legislation by the embittered lame duck Congress into a resurgence for Obama. Does anyone really need any more evidence these guys are in the tank fo the Dems? They're completely shameless. And Brokaw calls himself a journalist. If that's journalism, then journalistic integrity really is dead.
Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

Having said that, of course this gushing coverage was totally predictable. If Obama is going to get reelected, then he needs his to get his biggest cheerleaders behind him and all on the same page.

He is so obvious, stating the narrative, and Barnicle is actually bragging about the media's plan: They're writing it already! They have decided what the template is, and it's to ignore November and build Obama up for every little thing he does, proclaiming everything a "great victory."
No one is writing about how he was dragged kicking and screaming to tax cuts, it's all about the brilliant deal HE forced on Republicans.

Libs/Lefties making out with themselves
Submitted by Slyrr on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 7:38pm.
After a really bad year, it looks like the libutards in politics, the press, et. al., have started hitting the booze a little bit early. They've ridiculously gone from patting themselves on the back to making out with themselves in public. It was bad enough when Matthews got thrills in his pants while sitting behind his desk, now he's doing it while standing up and applauding.
But if the liberals think that American citizens are as pleasured by the sight of their crooked behavior as they are themselves, it means they truly learned nothing from the last election cycle. They may derive some kind of sick ecstacy from 'getting away with it', but Americans are getting more and more disgusted with liberals every time they jump in front of a camera or open their big fat mouths.
Now they think that before the year end, that cramming as many unconstitutional bills as they can down our throats shows some kind of 'political savvy'.
I'm sure King George III thought he was being cute and clever when he was taxing everyone. He was probably bragging about it with heavy breathing, just like the liberal press is now.
Until a funny thing happened. The people in the Americas woke up. And one day, there was a shot heard round the world.
So while these losers on their dead network are joining Newsweek in saying that Obama is a 'god who stands above us all', they might do wisely to remember that there is a point at which the American people will wake up and let their government know they've finally gone too far.
Then it won't be Obama threatening his enemies with mobs and pitchforks. He already said it - he declared to Latinos that the American people are his enemies. Unless he and Democrats and liberals retreat quickly from their agenda, they'll be finding the mobs and pitchforks at their own doors, with no one to call them off.

This is the type of President that is elected when the Mainstream Lame Media refuse to vet a candidate, because as Tom Hanks stated when he endorsed him: "I want Barack Obama to be the next President of this country, a country that once said that people of his skin color were only 3/5ths of a human being."
I guess if Barack Obama had not run, Tom Hanks and Tom Brokaw would have been comfortable endorsing Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson for President. They are Black and have also not really been vetted. Perfect candidates for President of the United States.

We have 25 percent of the rejected Congress passing laws the US public voted against in one last middle finger to the public. We have an even bigger RINO problem than we thought, with 25 percent of Repubs destroying national security as an issue for 2012. We basically made ourselves defenseless against the 1800 ballistic missiles that Iran will be importing into Venezuela. Monroe Doctrine, a dead letter for those 13 RINOs and the Obama Administration. Venezuela may have more ballistic missiles than the US, after this treaty has passed, and the US will have less than one third the ballistic missile capability of Venezuela, Russia and China combined. That surely will make for a safer world. Not!

The Comeback Kid, as the sport expression that I associate it with, always referred to someone who made a habit out of overcoming a poor start and rallying for a victory. Personally, I think of Joe Montana. Montana was a guy with real grit. Real calm and leadership. Cool as a cucumber. Joe Montana earned his nicknames. Obama is like one of those guys who gives himself a nickname in order to get those around him to buy into it.
Obama hasn't actually done anything worthy of being called comeback kid. Are his poll numbers suddenly over 50%? Did he get some actual ideological victory? No and no. He's given the impression that he's moved to the center, and for this the MSM is manufacturing this bizarre narrative; which Krauthammer helped put together through no fault of his own. It's sort of laughable to call Obama the comeback kid. Obama basically took a screen pass 12-yards to run out the clock just before halftime, and for that the MSM has got their panties in a wad.
But you can't blame the press. The press has been looking, nay dying, for an excuse to lather Obama with praise. They've been waiting for TWO long years and he hasn't been able to give them one. They've been waiting at their laptops with the sugary odes to Obama, just waiting for that signature Obama victory. Anything. Any little thing that they could produce into a big sappy love poem.
Instead they've gotten the last two years. Every month they try to make the 'unexpected drop in unemployment' seem like a beacon of hope for the One (until two weeks later when those numbers are revised). The MSM have been waiting since the Olympics to write an Obama victory speech. They waited through all those conferences abroad for a significant foreign policy victory. Nothing. Instead the man has had one gaffe after another. Elections? Try as they might to paint a 50 seat loss as a comeback for Obama, they just couldn't do it. Not after a 60+ seat loss (but they probably wrote all those 'comeback kid' pieces back then and had them saved and ready to go on their laptop).
The one saving grace is that for all of this manufactured MSM narrative, it's coming at the worst time. Because for those Americans who do pay some attention to national politics they probably pay the least amount of attention in December just before the Holidays.
