Joe Scarborough Tells Critics to 'Kiss My A**'

By Matt Hadro | December 06, 2010 | 17:12

Change font size:  A |  A

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, who recently implored viewers to "Keep Calm and Carry On" by seeking civil political debate over nasty partisanship, rebuked those who laughed at him last year for his 2010 predictions.

"For all of you that made fun of me when I started saying a year-and-a-half ago that this was going to be 1994 – kiss my ass," the co-host blurted to viewers Monday on "Morning Joe."

A shocked co-host Mika Brzezinski gasped before Scarborough kept ranting. Newsweek editor-in-chief Jon Meacham interrupted to briefly lecture Scarborough. "Civility," he reminded the co-host.

"Terrible. That wasn't very civil," Brzezinski bemoaned. Scarborough hastily apologized. "I know it wasn't [civil]. I'm sorry. I said it jokingly, it was a punch line. I'm sorry, it was in my script – oh wait, we don't have scripts," he joked.

Scarborough presumably was talking about how the 1994 "Republican Revolution" election was similar to the 2010 GOP House landslide, although he also drew comparisons between 1994 post-elections and what has transpired since the recent election.

"In 1995 we Republicans came in thinking we owned the world thinking that Bill Clinton was finished, thinking that we had him cornered. We were very arrogant, about how we were going to push him around – and....he knocked us back."

"It was a staring contest, and Bill Clinton didn't blink," he summarized. "This president is blinking in December," he said of President Obama, of whom he is surprised at his legislative concessions to Republicans.

The same planet I inhabited

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 9:30am.

The same planet I inhabited during 1993-95--Clinton's first couple of years in office--which you for some reason have excised.  There was no "fawning" press drooling over the Clintons.  The managing editor of the NYT loathed him, the WaPo was very critical--particularly during the Lewinsky scandal--perhaps because of its close ties with Kenneth Starr.  The left/proressives considered him a sellout to the Republicans.  ABC's This Week was little more than a weekly roundtable Clinton bashfest.  PBS's Sunday afternoon lineup--Buckley, McLaughlin [two shows] Rukeyser--was one anti-Clinton tirade after another.  Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell [peddler of the vile "Cllinton Chronicles" railed against him daily from their television studios.  The Washington press corps voted for him but didn't like him--Sally Quinn said they considered the Clintons a couple of "Arkansas hicks"--and their coverage reflected the animus.  Fox News earned its stripes with its non-stop stomping of Bill and Hillary.  [My step-father would get his daily insatiable Clinton-hating "fix" from Limbaugh in the afternoon and O'Reilly's and Hannity's relentless pounding of the President at night].  Chris Matthews was a harsh critic of Clinton.  So were Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson and George Will and Bill Kristol and David Brinkley on ABC.

His only reliable supporter who hosted his own show was Geraldo Rivera.

I got that much and I was not even in the country for 17 years. Now you tell us they hated President Clinton as well. Ok. Looks like NewsBusters is kinda pointless. Not exactlly, Vet.  The MSM

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 11:21am.

Not exactlly, Vet.  The MSM was still tilted left--although I think the degree of the tilt was always a bit exaggerated by the "right".  I would continually hear from my conservative friends that there were literallly no conservative voices on any of ther commercial networks, or CNN, PBS, etc.  But notwithstanding their protestations, there was in fact a very impressive array of pundits from the right who regularly appeared on the opinion shows (well before the advent of Fox News).

But, back to my main original point:  The NYT was then as now definitely liberal leaning--particularly with respect to its editorial page.  William Safire was about the only conservative columnist on the staff.  However, Howell Raines, the managing editor and unabashed liberal simply disliked Bill Clinton, and there were a steady stream of negative editorial pieces about him, not to mention the aggressive Whitewater reporting which that paper and the LA Times spearheaded.  But the personal animosity toward Clinton did not interfere with the NYT's predominantly liberal ideology.

No harm, Unsane...

Submitted by Jer on Wed, 12/08/2010 - 1:32am.

My bubble didn't even notice your tiny prick.  ;-)

Unlike you, I failed to catch every single episode of "This Week" during the eight years of the Clinton presidency, but I watched the vast majority of them, just as I did so with respect to virtually every other televised political opinion show.  And, as an avid print media follower and talk radio fan as well, the 90's probably marked the apex of my career as a news junkie.

Let's take a look at the panelists on TW during a big chunk of those years, shall we?

David Brinkley:  Moderator...Centrist Republican...he kept his ideology largely concealed--as he should have--although he would on rare occasions allow just a bit of his GOP leanings to seep through.

Sam Donaldson:  Liberal...But he publicly announced on the Tonight Show prior to Clinton's first inauguration that he thoroughly disliked the man, and although Donaldson was clearly no Republican apologist and thought impeachment was unwarranted, his personal antipathy toward Clinton was quite regularly on display.

Cokie Roberts:  Centrist Democrat...Agreed with the majority of Clinton's policies, but she too was repelled by his reckless personal behavior and did not hold back her strident criticisms of his moral failings.

George Will:  Brilliant and eloquent, solidly conservative and consistent and relentless Clinton critic

Bill Kristol (prior to his move to Fox News):  See description of Will above.  Same goes for Kristol, although, imo, not quite in Will's league.

Furthermore, the producer of This Week was [I believe, but haven't verified] Deborah Stone:  Conservative

We can delve into the more general issue of anti-Clinton bias later as I have already lost one post and need to end this one.

But, to wrap this up in a couple of words:  You're wrong.

Leaning left means---

Submitted by matthewdean on Wed, 12/08/2010 - 2:10am.

tilting left; and that results in favoring left, viewing left, speaking left, eating, sleeping, and drinking left.

Interpreting left, expaining left, remembering left, revealing left, preferring left,  continually experiencing life as a lefty,  and perceiving events through a left-warped prism.

Oh, and it makes some lefties believe that Joe Scarborough is a conservative.

I read of a police study showing that in foot pursuits, 80% of the fleeing felons always turned in a leftward direction when running away.

Much as I would like to attach some significance related to that trivia to leftists, it apparently only means that most people are right-handed, and will tend to veer left when hauling buns.

That means that the remaining 20%, left-handers, would tend to veer right when beating feet.

That obviously doesn't apply in the political world.

Removed long ago, my friend...

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 12/21/2010 - 10:25am.

Love and hate are emotions I reserve for a few individuals, none of whom has been President of the United States.  Such passions with regard to the latter are your baliwick, not mine.  I did, indeed, respect Clinton's talent for governance and his political aptitude, but not his reckless personal conduct.  Contrariwise, I respected Reagan's qualities of character and dispostion, and confess to only belatedly giving his policy achievements the degree of credit deserved.  Sadly, your mind is so cloistured by ideology and bias, you are quite incapable of making even modestly balanced judgments.

Furthermore, your comprehension of the media relationship with Clinton during the 90's is so thoroughy misshapen and so patently limited that extended debate would presently be useless.  I know you are busy, but when you have a few hours to spare, review the editorial offerings of the NYT (even those of the WaPo to a lesser degree)--those bastions of the liberal print media--spanning the Clinton presidency and then return here with a straight face and reaffirm your insistence the Times was only "occasionally" critical.

This is Stiff as a Board Joe

Submitted by Chris Norman on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 12:02am.

This is Stiff as a Board Joe in his "look at me I'm a tough guy" mode. This guy just keeps on trying to re-invent himself, in search of a persona and a schtick that works to make him a successful host. Problems are: he is unconvincing as any and the personas start overlapping. This why we get clumsy kiss my civil a** comments from the hopeless dork.

You can tell when Joe is

Submitted by Captain Repus on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 1:34am.

You can tell when Joe is saying something intelligent - his eyes don't squint

You can tell when Mika is thinking something intelligent - I'll have to get back to you on that

This bottom-rated pair of losers and their typical cast of yes-lib pseudo intellectuals represent the greatest waste of 3 hours a day outside of sitting on the can at the end of a 5 day bout with constipation. The end result is the same though - the crap spins down to join the rest of the network turds.

I will never watch Morning Joe.  I can't stand listening to a weak-minded little girl, and Mika is pretty annoying too.  ;-)

Submitted by Captain Repus on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 1:40am.

Actually, it's worth watching - gives you insight as to the total lack of class in todays democrat party - especially that moronic daughter of Dr. Strangelove who serves as a warning to all women that silicone can, and in fact does, leach to your brain.

Lack of class in the Democratic party exhibited by Morning Joe?  Where...Who...When?

If you really do watch regularly then you must surely be aware that Mika offers minimal political commentary, and what little bit she does engage in is hardly radical [well, I grant you her anti-fat campaign, though well-intentioned, was a tad extreme] and certainly not classless.

Oh, I'm sorry, I must be

Submitted by Captain Repus on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 2:50am.

Oh, I'm sorry, I must be watching a different program. The show I watch consists of mostly Mika reading emails from the White House on her Blackberry instructing her on just how she, Joe and the irregular Nora Odonnell can sling smears at the Palins, how Joe can sling smears at every successful Republican, especially with his viseral hatred of Newt, the bought-and-paid-for crew of assasins from the Politico blog reporting only negative news tidbits about conservatives, the ex-head of a news weekly magazine that was sold for more than it was worth at $1, a plagerist(sp), a token Pulitzer winning paper-boy, a Jimmy Olsen look-alike straight man/child who spent months promoting his book which I suspect contained mostly pop-ups.

This show and it's entire crew, along with their network, are nothing more than puppets totally controlled by the Obammy administration goons. Lean Backwards my friend.

But then again, I might be thinking of another show.

That's a distinct possibility.

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 3:00am.

Or you may be deliberately tuning out or turning off the numerous segments in which Scarborough and/or Buchanan and/or Noonan and/or a GOP guest is slamming the administration, Democrats and the "left".  Or your knowledge of the program may be derived soley from what you read about it at NewsBusters.

Actually Joe, I watch the show regularly. My comments stand on their own and are an accurate reflection of both the content and tone of the show.

The events you describe represent mere token segments of the program that occur about as regularly as Obammy press conferences.

I respect your right to defend your program.

"Joe"?

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 4:13am.

Busted.  That's right...I'm actually Joe Scarborough a/k/a "Jer" at NB for the past three and a half years [sarc off], and, while I respect your right to criticize Morning Joe, I must take issue with your characterization of the show and the entire crew as "puppets totally controlled by the Obammy administration."  Your reflection is not merely untrue but laughably absurd.

Since you portray yourself as a "regular" viewer, please provide a few examples of Scarborough's pointed and vigorous criticisms of Obama, the political left, and Democratic members of Congress during the past couple of months.  Which Republicans has he named as the impressive up-and-comers in the GOP?  Who does he assert is his favorite President?  What was Scarborough's lifetime conservative rating as determined by the ACU?

Odd, ain't it, how a conservative seems to view Scarboroughs show a bit differently than you do?

Sure glad I don't watch Dumb and Dumber with any regularity.

Well JoeJer, I just woke up

Submitted by Captain Repus on Tue, 12/07/2010 - 10:12am.

Well JoeJer, I just woke up and watched the opening 20 minutes of the dynamic-dumbo's Morning Joke show and, as Perry Mason would say, "I rest my case".

I especially like the part where JoeYou rail about "how many Republicans have we had on in the past couple of weeks who said ....blah blah...".  and his typical "How many times have I said in the past year that .... blah blah". Let me count the numbers. Hmm... , must have been erased from the archives.

I really like the part where they headline that the new tax agreement would cost "$900 Billion over the next 2 years". They have been railing that extending the tax cuts for the rich cats would cost $700 billion over the next 10 YEARS, so $900 billion over 2 years would be $4,5 trillion over that 10 year period... so we must assume that the part of the agreement that Obammy got costs us an extra $3.8 trillion ($4.5 trillion - $700 billion for rich cats). I suspect that 5th grade arithmentic must have been the longest 3 years of JoeJer's life.

Her "Seriously, seriously???" usually signals her disagreement but she offers no counter argument - just scorn.

Joe is a Complete Ass.  So, Joe's request, though highly unappealing in every way,               would not be difficult to accomplish.

And that is exactly why Joe chose Mika.  Ms. Brzezinski is Joe's female counterpart.                  They both suffer from "Extreme Asininity Syndrome."
