'Morning Joe' Mourns With Biden How Presidents Get Demonized 'From Day One'
"Are you telling them to 'keep calm and carry on' in the White House?" MSNBC's Joe Scarborough supportively asked the Vice President of the United States on Friday morning. "Morning Joe" hosted Joe Biden, but skipped the more embarrassing subjects: the recent trial fiasco of terrorist Ahmed Ghailani and the ethics charges against Rep. Charlie Rangel.
The topics of conversation ranged from the START Treaty to the "stimulus" bill to Sarah Palin – the MSNBC crew all laughed at her claim that she could beat Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential race – but Scarborough changed subjects toward the end and asked Biden about the demonizing of presidents once they enter office.
"As you know...at least since Clinton was elected, the second a President gets elected, the other side tries to de-legitimize that president from day one," Scarborough claimed. "You've seen that from the outside since early '93. Have you been shocked since you got on the inside at just how tough it is?" he asked Biden.
The Vice President answered in the negative. "Well, I've not been surprised, unfortunately. I wish I was shocked." He then seemed to lament the presence of Fox News, between the lines: "What I've found is that there is a – there's a plethora of – of outlets for people to get their news from. There's a plethora of outlets for people to organize through, and so you get a couple hundred thousand people with one point of view, and you've got yourself a platform. And there's a cacophony of voices out there that make it very confusing for serious people to try to figure out what are the facts? What's the real deal here? And things have just gotten a lot more complicated."
Co-host Mika Brzezinski tried to throw sunlight on the 2010 elections for Biden. "Isn't this new map – or this 'shellacking' as the President puts it – isn't it actually a moment of opportunity for this administration?" Surprisingly, Biden put it in perspective. "Well it's both a moment of opportunity, but also a pretty clear message," he mused.
Why would Brzezinski and Scarborough pander to Biden about demonization when confessed terrorist Ahmed Ghailani was acquitted on hundreds of counts except one – conspiracy to destroy a government building – in a civilian trial in New York? Do they think there's no discontent against the Obama Justice Department?
A transcript of the segment, which aired on November 19 at 7:59 a.m. EDT, is as follows:
JOE SCARBOROUGH: For a lot of people that haven't spent a lot of time in Washington, and I'd put the President in this category, Bill Clinton was the same way – they don't realize the tide comes in, the tide goes out. But the tide always comes back in. Are you telling them to keep calm and carry on in the White House?
(...)
SCARBOROUGH: What do you guys need to do to turn it around?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah, isn't this new map, or this "shellacking" as the President put it – isn't it actually a moment of opportunity for this administration?
Vice President JOE BIDEN: Well it's both a moment of opportunity, but also a pretty clear message then.
(...)
SCARBOROUGH: Well you got here in '72, right?
BIDEN: I did.... (Unintelligible)
SCARBOROUGH: 29 year-old kid – 30, I guess, by January. Talk about how things have changed. Because as you know, every day on the show we talk about how, at least since Clinton was elected, the second a President gets elected, the other side tries to de-legitamize that president from day one. You've seen that from the outside since early '93. Have you been shocked since you got on the inside at just how tough it is?
BRZEZINSKI: Or not surprised.
BIDEN: Well, I've not been surprised, unfortunately. I wish I was shocked. I've been here for eight Presidents, this is the eighth president I've worked with. And what I've found is that there is a – there's a plethora of – of outlets for people to get their news from. There's a plethora of outlets for people to organize through, and so you get a couple hundred thousand people with one point of view, and you've got yourself a platform. And there's a cacophony of voices out there that make it very confusing for serious people to try to figure out what are the facts? What's the real deal here? And things have just gotten a lot more complicated. And unfortunately we always learn the wrong lesson from one another. We learn how – we learn how to take down a president, and the next guy they learn.
(...)
BRZEZINSKI: Before we go, let me just show you Sarah Palin, your former rival for the Vice Presidential position talking about 2012. Take a listen.
(Video Clip)
SARAH PALIN: And looking at the lay of the land now, and trying to figure that out, if it's a good thing for the country, for the discourse, for my family, if it's a good thing.
BARBARA WALTERS: If you ran for President, could you beat Barack Obama?
PALIN: I believe so.
(End Video Clip)
(Laughter)
BIDEN: Look, I – look – I-I-I-I – don't give me any trouble. I-I-I-I don't think she could beat President Obama, but you know, you – she's always underestimated, so you know, I think – I think I shouldn't say any more.
BRZEZINSKI: There you go!

Since Clinton? Oh, man, you were asleep during history class, weren't you! Have you ever read what was said about, oh, I don't know, John Adams, our Second President? He was described as argumentative, willful, and down right ornery, and that was even before he was President, even before he was Washington's Vice President! The rhetoric was much worse after he was elected President. He, himself, later admitted that he was a bit to combative while in office.
People are very vocal in their disapproval and displeasure of others, especially when those others are in positions of power. That's how it is in politics, and that's how it will always be. It's a part of our human nature and nothing is going to change that. As the saying goes: If you can't take the heat, get out of the Kitchen.

Joe Biden seems to forget that HIS PARTY opened this genie with what they did to Robert Bork in 1987. Biden himself wasn't overly involved with it, but they brought the character assassination into the modern discourse with a vengeance. Does Biden not remember his own party voting down the nomination of John Tower to be Defense Secretary - merely as payback for the "nasty campaign" they said Bush 41 ran? Did his anuerysm right after the Bork hearings cause him to suffer from selective amnesia?
What about George W. Bush? It is HILARIOUS to me to hear ANYONE from the left whining about people not liking the President. They HATED Bush from the moment he announced he was running in 1999.
And now we're all supposed to hold hands and sing "Kum Ba Ya?"
Have you noticed that holding

Have you noticed that holding hands and getting along is only a priority after a Republican election victory? It was that way in 2004, when Bush was reelected and the Rs picked up seats in Congress, sending Tom Daschle home in the process. After that election, it was all about Bush needs to bend to meet Democrats halfway. After the 2008 election, we heard no such call from the media. Then, it was all about a mandate and a new direction ("change") for the country. There was no onus put on Democrats to compromise with Republicans; it was all about forwarding their agenda as quickly as possible.

In a better world (politically speaking), your post would be the absolute, all time, world class zinger, when quoted verbatim by any and all Republicans when a Democrat proclaims the need for partisanship.
Even better if it were the required response, but, alas,---.

All started with Clinton?

All started with Clinton? Huh?
Mr. Biden needs to stretch his sleeping brain just a little, because this kind of political strategy has been implemented forever; certainly long before Clinton was in office. Tell me the left never tried to marginalize Ronald Reagan. Are you kidding me, Joe? The fact they were unsuccessful in this bid makes no difference; they tried their best to ruin him. Even to this day, many libs still try to rewrite history and what Reagan was all about, in favor of how they saw him in their own world. Heck, even Gerald Ford was mocked and marginalized.
Vice President Biden's own mouth provides ample proof that Sarah Palin was more than qualified for that job.

This guy really should keep his mouth shut.
Let's not forget the media "shellacking" that GW Bush got almost every day of his administration. They hated him and weren't afraid to let people know it.
Obama has been criticized since day one because he is unqualified for the job of POTUS. He is an empty suit, just as Geraldine Ferrarro so aptly described him. He was picked out and groomed for the presidency because of the color of his skin - that's all. It is a shame but it is the truth, and anyone who argues that point is an ignorant fool. Obama's senate record is a joke. His "experience" as a community organizer does not make him qualified to be President.
Obama is one of the worst presidents ever. We are circling the drain in this country, and Obama can't shut the water off because he doesn't know how to do it. The man should have never been elected.
For the sake of the country,

For the sake of the country, I wish I could disagree with one thing in your post--I can't.
qualifications
Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 11/19/2010 - 6:11pm.
Actually, he failed to meet the most important qualification and that's his place of birth. If he really wanted to prove that he was born in this country, he could show his birth certificate and this would be a moot issue. There would be no more comment made on it
But because there have been several damning incidents that prove otherwise, including as recently as a few days ago "my fellow Kenyan" and so forth, the issue gets brought back time and time again, with good reason: It's the Constitution.
Otherwise, he's not "unqualified," as he met the age requirement. He's inexperienced as managing things, at least inexperienced in a common sense way, but he's VERY experienced in a Communist/Socialist way. He hates the Constitution which we all know and circumvents it often, which he knows what he's doing when he does that.
You mention the color of his skin. Does anyone even know how that got started, especially that it got perpetuated even though the truth came out that he's not even half-black? Calling him black is like saying fire won't burn you if you play with it with your bare hands. It ain't true.
Everything else you mention is quite correct. The above things I went over are the ones that annoy the hell out of me whenever they are brought up about this fraud. He does know what he's doing, that's been his agenda all along. The Democrats in Congress helped him do it, and with great enthusiasm.
And we are where we are today.
In deep trouble.

Require birth certficates at nomination
Submitted by nkviking75 on Fri, 11/19/2010 - 10:12pm.
The whole "birther" debate raises a great question: Why isn't proof of age and citizenship required as a part of the nominating process? After all, the Constitution sets the requirements for the office. It's not unreasonable to demand the proof.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: " Are you telling them to keep calm and carry on in the White House?"
Hardly an episode of Morning Joe goes by without Scarborough uttering this stupid phrase. He apparently thinks it's very clever, but it's worn real thin.
I find Scarborough as tiresome as Bill O'Reilly these days.
Can we now suspend Biden for two days without pay?

Ahh poor Joe, he’s old enough to actually remember a time when two weekly newsmagazines, three television news departments and half a dozen newspapers formed all public opinion in this country. Those were good years to be a democrat weren’t they Joe?
Maybe I missed

Maybe I missed something............but I can't remember the MSM 'demonizing' Boy Blunder from Day 1................and, in fact, they've been hyping him since WAY before Day 1, and even though I think they've finally started to realize that they've been 'punk'd' by the whole scam, they're STILL 'getting his back'!!!
And I still can't believe that they didn't know the scoop about this poser..........it's all been out there for those of us who did our homework............I guess they just believe what they tell each other.
And far as any president getting 'demonized' from Day 1..............hasn't Boy Barry (and Joe Plugs Bite-me) been doing that to Bush????

Yeah "Joes" (Plural), It must really Suck that the MSM couldn't Continue what Bernie Goldberg so Correctly called, its Slobbering Love Affair with Candidate for POTUS Bam-Bam, and that they've had to Try and Cover his @ss AS POTUS, and had to try and Create some of the most ridiculous Excuses and false Positives in Defense of Him and His Policies that I've ever in heard In Politics. Much Less heard in the last Two Years. Doesn't It? Bet That's been A Lotta Work for You Bozos.
