As we would cynically say back in the good old days in Queens [insert NYC accent]: yeah, right.
On today's Morning Joe, Associated Press White House correspondent Julie Pace claimed that one thing that made Hillary hesitate in deciding to run for president was that she "worried that her candidacy would block out Joe Biden who is quite a close friend of hers." When Joe Scarborough expressed skepticism, and the panel burst into guffaws, Joe said "Good. I'm not the only one laughing at that."
Really, can Pace possibly believe that Nana Hillary hesitated for a nanosecond because of her friendship with Biden?
WILLIE GEIST: Hey Julie, it's Willie. As you reported out this piece about the road to the announcement yesterday, did you ever find a moment along the way where Hillary Clinton considered not running for president? Did she ever look out and say this e-mail scandal or the book tour or whatever it was, she said I don't want all this scrutiny in my life or was she always going to be running?
JULIE PACE: It doesn't appear as though there was a moment where she actively said, no, I'm not doing it and then changed her mind, but there were a lot of times where she paused. Some of the things that she was worried about were personal, Chelsea and her husband Mark were having a baby and Hillary Clinton is someone who spent her whole life in the public eye and she worried about putting her daughter's family in the public eye. One thing I found interesting is that she apparently was worried that her candidacy would block out Joe Biden who actually is quite a close friend of hers.
. . .
JOE SCARBOROUGH: And I wanted to say, the only thing in this video that made me flinch, you know, come on, or in the reporting, was when we heard the report that she's close to Joe Biden and this was really -- not in the video but in the reporting this morning, that it was really difficult for her to do this because she had such a close friendship with Joe Biden. [panel laughs] Okay. Good. I'm not the only one laughing at that.
