Mika Admits: Under Bush, Drone Strike Memo Would Have Caused 'Huge Controversy'

Unusual candor from Mika Brzezinski and Harold Ford, Jr. on the double standard that exists for Republicans and Democrats.  Discussing on today's Morning Joe the Obama administration memo that has been uncovered authorizing the use of drone strikes to kill U.S. citizens abroad, Mika admitted that there would have been a "huge controversy" if such a memo had surfaced during the Bush administration. Ford said that "Democrats have to think now about how they conducted themselves and the questions they raised about Bush administration tactics." Joe Scarborough flatly declared that had the policy come to light under Bush, it would have been "stopped" by the ensuing outcry. View the video after the jump.

HAROLD FORD, JR.: Democrats need to now think back how they conducted themselves and the questions they raised about Bush administration tactics. I didn't raise those questions as aggressively as some of my friends did, but I think it's important that everybody take a step back and take a breather here, particularly Democrats.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Because this would be as questionable, more questionable --

FORD, JR.: If this was happening and his name was Bush, I think there'd be a lot of criticism coming at this President.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: If George Bush, Mika, had done this, it would have been stopped.

BRZEZINSKI: I think certainly it would have been a huge controversy that would have erupted. The question is how many questions will this administration face on this?
