Race Card! Andrea Mitchell Suggests Sununu 'Take Back' Comment That Obama Is 'Lazy'

John Sununu, did you just call Barack Obama lazy?  Quick: someone call the PC police! But before we slap the race-card cuffs on you, Andrea Mitchell, being the nice MSM lady she is, will offer you the chance to take back your horrifying comment!

That's essentially what went down on Mitchell's MSNBC show this afternoon.  Critiquing President Obama's listless debate performance, Romney adviser Sununu said that it revealed how "how lazy and detached" he is. Replied an appalled Mitchell: "Governor, I want to give you a chance to maybe take it back. Did you really mean to call Barack Obama, the President of the United States, lazy?"  Sununu did not back down, providing an example of a recent statement by President Obama revealing how he was reluctant to prepare for the debate. Watch Sununu stick to his guns as Mitchell plays the race card.

JOHN SUNUNU: Andrea, what people saw last night I think was a president who revealed his incompetence, how lazy and detached he is and how he has absolutely no idea how serious the economic problems of the country are and how he has failed to even begin to address them.

 . . .

ANDREA MITCHELL: Governor, I want to give you a chance to maybe take it back. Did you really mean to call Barack Obama, the President of the United States, lazy?

SUNUNU: Yes! I think you saw him admit it the night before when he delivered the pizzas! He said, you know they're making me do this work. He didn't want to prepare for this debate! He's lazy and disengaged!

MITCHELL [after notable pause]: I think that there certainly a performance issue there and whether or not he was in his best form last night, a lot of people are questioning that. Just the one on one against Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney turned in a very strong performance. But I think to call the president lazy and disengaged is another whole question.

NOTE:  Regarding Sununu's reference to Obama not wanting to prepare for the debate, the Wall Street Journal quoted Obama saying: "“We had a great prep, and it was a lot of fun . . . although basically they’re keeping me indoors all the time. It’s a drag. They’re making me do my homework.” Gee, kind of sounds like, uh, um, the L-word to me!
