Reverend Al's Laugh Line: My Work Against Voter ID Laws Is 'Non-Partisan'

An MSNBC host and the Chair of the Democratic National Committee walk into a bar . . . Al Sharpton, uttering one of the more absurd laugh lines of this political season, actually claimed on his MSNBC show this evening that his campaign in Florida against voter ID laws is "non-partisan."  

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz apparently hadn't gotten the memo about pretending Sharpton was non-partisan.  The Chair of the DNC, also a Dem Florida congresswoman, after delivering a super-partisan diatribe on the issue, giddily thanked Sharpton for his work--before the Reverend hastened to remind viewers that his campaign was "non-partisan."  You're killing us, Al!  View the video after the jump.

Note that Sharpton said he was heading down to Florida to continue his "non-partisan" campaign with "Bishop Victor Curry."  Curry is another prominent non-partisan, having come under criticism for lending his church's pulpit to yet another noted non-partisan: then Chairman of the Democratic National Committe, Terry McAuliffe.

DEBBIE WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ: The Democratic party is going to do everything we can to make sure that regardless of whether you speak English or Spanish, regardless of where you live, if you are eligible to vote, and lawfully eligible to vote, we are going to do everything we can to make sure you can cast that ballot. The Republicans are doing everything they can to prevent it.

AL SHARPTON: Now, congresswoman, you know I've spent some time in Florida lately --

WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ: Yes you did, and thank you for that [giggles] --

SHARPTON: -- around voter ID, and it's been non-partisan, not for either party --

WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ: [getting the message] Right.

SHARPTON: -- going back with Bishop Victor Curry next week.
