Schultz and MSNBC Launch 'Get Out The Vote' Effort Against Scott Walker

By Mark Finkelstein | May 31, 2012 | 08:28

A  A

Fox News has come under "withering criticism" after Fox & Friends yesterday aired what's been described as a campaign-style video, created by an associate producer, contrasting President Obama's words with his job performance. A top Fox exec said the video "was not authorized at the network's senior level" that "senior executives would not have approved it and the matter was addressed with the show's producers."  The video was removed from the Fox & Friends website.

So if it's wrong for FNC to campaign against Obama, how about MSNBC launching a Get Out The Vote effort against Scott Walker in the Wisconsin recall election?  Have a look at the video clip here of an MSNBC "Lean Forward" promo for Ed Schultz's show.  After Schultz declares that the Wisconsin recall hinges on "who gets their people out," the screen flashes "Get Out The Vote!"  Schultz seeks to recruit his viewers in the effort, the graphic asking them to "share your photos" at Schultz's Facebook page.   There's no doubt who Schultz is seeking to get out the vote for--and against.  The same video is filled with images of people holding signs saying "Recall Walker" and "Walker: Your Pink Slip Is Showing."  View the video after the jump.

Watch this blatant bit of lefty electioneering by Schultz/MSNBC.  Will similar outrage be expressed?  Holding breath optional.

OFF-SCREEN ANNOUNCER: Five days to the Wisconsin recall, and no one knows the stakes better than Ed Schultz.

ED SCHULTZ: It's a fight that matters to the middle class in every corner of this country!

OFF-SCREEN ANNOUNCER: Ed's been there since the beginning, with critical insight.

SCHULTZ: I hear from the people of Wisconsin every day.

OFF-SCREEN ANNOUNCER: Now, this game-changing election comes down to the wire.

SCHULTZ: It's now down to who gets their people out.

OFF-SCREEN ANNOUNCER [as GET OUT THE VOTE graphic appears on screen]: Share your Get Out The Vote photos as facebook.com/EDshow. A special edition of the Ed Show, live from Wisconsin, Tuesday at 8 and 11 Eastern, on MSNBC.

Selective outrage....

Submitted by motherbelt on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 8:47am.

I love how the NYT trumpets the fact that Hot Air criticized Fox.

Has the Times ever noted any of the other countless criticisms Hot Air has made, say, against MSNBC??

Those are far more numerous than this one against Fox.

Will they do an article when HA criticizes Schultz for campaigning on his show?

Yawn. Another Media Matters production.

Submitted by SickofLibs on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 8:59am.

At least Media Matters admits that unlike MSNBC, Fox actually has written 'ethical standards.'

In other MM-MSNBC news, yesterday Sharptoon dutifully acted on orders from his Media Matters masters who just admitted they may have to throw Sacagawea Warren under the bus. Da Rev actually had on as a guest Sacagawea's Democratic primary challenger Marisa DeFranco.

So, if I moon the camera and send it in, will the correct message be received, or will they think I'm mooning someone else besides Shultz?

It is a liberal thing

Submitted by John21 on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 9:17am.

They are liberals; it is fine for MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC to provide continuous assistance to the Obama campaign.
It is perfectly acceptable that the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times and Newsweek to produce little else but Obama Campaign support.

The evolution of the propaganda media providing “public relations” favorable to the Obama campaign based solely on their political agenda and bias is of course within bounds, it is acceptable for the brainless pundits on those media organization to continuously praise the current administration for any and all false improvements in the American lifestyle and of course provide cover and distraction to any and all setbacks. It is fine to attack any and all conservative or even the conservative values without cause.

Fox has always been an enemy of the propaganda media, not that they are unbias but much closer to the middle than all the named organization. They expose too much of the propaganda medias lies and embarrass them. Put a single 4 minutes video on a a talk show that supports or appears to support a conservative is cause for all of them scream with joy, pain and delight about Fox’s bias.

No double standard

Submitted by CO2Maker on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 9:24am.

It's just that Fox's policies adhere to a higher standard than MFNBC's. Fox executives decided that the 4-minute video broke their own rules; MFNBC promotes partisan advocacy.

No worries

If the success of the recall vote hinges on Ed Schultz's audience getting out the vote, then I think everything's going to be OK.

Since when is it not

Submitted by ohio granny on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 10:21am.

Since when is it supporting the opposite party if you use someones words and actions against them? I understamd that in the democrat mind it it unfair to use their own words against them. But for Fox News to fall into this trap is disappointing. One thing I have noticed lately at Fox is they have a lot more liberals on all their shows That is why I keep my remote near so I can either change channels or use the mute buttton.

ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, they all are in the tank for Obama. Yet they demonize Fox because they really are more fair and balanced.

Why are liberals so afraid of having both sides of any issue shown? Because they cannot win on facts, they only win by shutting down other side down. Will Fox allow the democrats to shut them down?

It already is...

Submitted by c5then on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 10:32am.

I have noticed that over the last two years or so, FoxNews has moved slowley but steadily to the left. Granted it is still far the the right of the 3 networks and CNN, not to mention the assylum that is called MSNBC. It is still much more ballanced than the other news outlets on the TV, but the move to the left is noticable.

Wisconsin unions see ranks drop ahead of recall vote

Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/05/31/wisconsin-unions-see-ranks-dr...

The 2nd largest union in WI (AFSCME) saw it's membership decrease from 62,818 in 3/11 to 28,745 in 2/12. Hmmmmmm. a 50% drop off in membership is sure going to make all those contributions to democrats difficult to maintain.

Dead men (and women) walking!

Submitted by Newsbubba on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 11:16am.

Since the opinions of "the dearly departed" don't show up to well in the pre-election polls, I won't bet on Walker winning until six months after the vote is actually certified.

The vote will be much closer than the polls (see above) and if any precincts go into a recount mode, the commies always win those. Walker needs a huge margin, or the recount fun will begin, and he will lose.

Special Ed (can I say that today?) has only a couple of short buses full of viewers, but they can amass thousands of names from the obits, and the graveyards. You can bet they have been working on it for months.

So good luck Mickey, Donald, Minnie, Goofy, and Daffy when you go to vote. Do your duty.
