In Sharpton Promo, MSNBC Lumps Republican Tax Policy With 'Back-of-the-Bus' Racism

By Mark Finkelstein | January 25, 2012 | 11:05

A  A

It's one thing for Al Sharpton to spout racialized politics on his MSNBC show every evening.  It's even another when one of his guests attacks Mitt Romney with the lamest of Rosa Parks/racism analogies.

But when MSNBC itself produces a promo featuring Sharpton lumping Republican tax policy with the racism that kept blacks in the back of the bus and denied women the vote, the network has taken a very ugly turn.  Yet that's just what the latest "Lean Forward" Sharpton promo does. Video after the jump.

Watch Sharpton drag himself and MSNBC down.

AL SHARPTON: They give tax cuts and loopholes to the rich, and they act like it's acceptable saying by-and-by, it'll trickle down to you.  It's not acceptable to us.  It was a time it was acceptable women couldn't vote and blacks were in the back of the bus. A lot of things were acceptable--until we stopped accepting it.

Is that like...

... Obama's "back of the car" meme when he was going on and on about the "ditch"?

Why would a black president want to put white people in the back of the car?

Huh...

Failing to see the equivalence...

Submitted by b-dob on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 11:38am.

Since when is keeping more of what you earn the same as citizens being denied civil rights? I may be wrong here, but somewhere during the founding of this country, property rights were guaranteed to the people. That pesky ol' Constitution, always getting in the way of the liberal agenda!

Actually the Constitution doesn't get in the way if you are Obama.

A well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Tired of it

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 11:43am.

I'm sure a lot of us are feeling the same way, but I'm getting really tired of these racist Democrats/liberals, especially when they turn it around and accuse us conservatives of being what they are.

No Clue

Submitted by John21 on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 11:42am.

Rev "Race Baiter" Al has nothing else to talk about, any time they give him a conversation about anything else he sounds like a crackhead trying to describe some universe (not ours or at least not recogizable as ours).

I can't even understand why this inarticlate man still has a show, I know that any intelligent human being can't be taking his program seriously, maybe for the comedy factor (it is funny). Then I think MSDNC couldn't fire Rev Al because as always he would start screaming "Racist" (his answer for every discussion) and being far left liberal MSDNC may lose its elitist status with their fellow travelers.

Looks like N-BS-DNC has screwed itself into a corner just like the have help the incompetents in this administration screw the country into that corner.

Is that all they have...?

Submitted by NeoKong on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 11:47am.

MSNBC has decided to make racism a campaign theme.
It is now official policy at MSNBC to call tens of millions of people racists.
I said it before.
Let them run with that and we'll see them at the election booth.

It's certainly a recurring theme in their discussions about everything from photo IDs & voter registration to tax policy.

Pay your $2.6M back taxes, Sharpton, then talk all you want.

Until then, STFU.

How is he getting away with this? Anybody else would have their wages garnished and their assets seized.

There is a line...

Submitted by Order270 on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 12:00pm.

...and it has been crossed. MSNBC has taken an activist's role by integrating their commentator's views as a component in promoting their mission.

Submitted by icu4whatur on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 12:11pm.

are going to find out real quick that there racism against americans will back fire. Like crying wolf it is meaningless for what is going on. Everyone is an american wheather they are black or white.
How about we just take Al Sharptons money he makes at MSNBC and his investment accounts and put it towards the poor. As well as Buffet, Soros and all those left Socialist . They need to be taught a lessen and have just there taxes be effected by there cause they claim to so much. This will expose there hypocracy . It is only fair for them to fully support there goals. They should not be allowed to keep no more than $75,000 total all other income and investments should be taken from them and given to there poor. They will never do this because they are hypocrites. They only want fairness doled out by other peoples money not theres that is why they do not give extra money to the government in taxes they report. They want the power not the jobs.

I am convinced.

Submitted by JLin on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 12:23pm.

Brian Williams, Andrea Mitchell, Bob Schieffer, Chris Matthews, are all Communists. There is nothing Communists advocate that they and the rest of the Vichy Media do not. They may draw the line at political imprisonment, forced sterilization and labor camps, but even then I am not convinced.

These people are smart, informed, and determined. They are not ignorant well-meaning fools, they are fully complicit and involved in this campaign against America. They know exactly what they are doing. Our Republicans are playing Wimbledon tennis and the Democrats are playing WWI trench warfare. The Republicans are largely clueless as to what is happening, either that or they don't have the stomach for what is required to save the Republic. We may be looking at one party Soviet-style rule here shortly.

Al Sharpton

Submitted by Steve Cakouros on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 4:25pm.

Al Sharpton is a race baiter and a race hater. He conveniently finds racism where it doesn’t exist. Sahrpton has found out that if you talk up race issues you can make a pretty good living.

I can’t take him seriously.

"A whining crying race may be pitied but seldom respected" [Booker T. Washington]

In a sound bite I heard some time ago Sharpton came out in support of Socialism. Apparently nothing has changed over time. He must feel right at home with MSNBC.
