NBC's Andrea Mitchell Agrees: America One Of World's Most 'Socially Unjust' Societies

By Mark Finkelstein | December 02, 2011 | 10:06

A  A

Zbigniew Brzezinki's indictment of the United States was so harsh—calling America "one of the most socially unjust societies in the world"—that even his own daughter Mika was taken aback, asking her father to explain himself.

But that didn't stop Andrea Mitchell from emphatically agreeing with Zbigniew Brzezinki's condemnation of the USA.  In the course of doing so, Mitchell called the Tea Party  and opposition to ObamaCare "exaggerated forms" of protest, while praising Occupy Wall Street as "a real movement." Video after the jump.

Watch Andrea join Brzezinski's Blame America First Brigade.

ZBIGNIEW BREZINSKI: The West today is somewhat corrupt, uneasy about its own value system.  The United States is becoming rapidly one of the most socially unjust societies in the world. And that is raising basic questions about the relevance of the West to a world that is now universally awakened.  Stirring, restless, conflicted.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Now when you say "socially unjust" --

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Wow. Yeah.  Please explain that.

SCARBOROROUGH: Yeah, explain how the United States of America --

MIKA: It's a strong statement.

SCARBOROUGH: -- you believe is becoming socially unjust.  One of the most socially unjust.

ZBIGNIEW: The income disparities between the rich and the poor in the United States are now the most severe in the world . . .

MIKA: Andrea.

ANDREA MITCHELL: I agree with just about everything that Dr. Brzezinski has said, except that I'm not as optimistic as you are about the Eurozone [Brzezinski had predicted that Europe will solve its financial crisis]. The disparities between rich and poor is this country are the underlying tension.  You see the exaggerated forms of it on both sides. With what we saw with the Tea Party, the objection to a social compact on health care a couple of years ago.  And then, the emergence of the Occupy movement.  That's a real movement.  There is real passion and anger there.

Note that whereas Mitchell claims to see "exaggerated forms" of protest on "both sides," she only cites the Tea Party and resistance to ObamaCare as examples of the phenomenon, while praising Occupy Wall Street as being a "real" movement.

Socially unjust? Compared to whom?

Submitted by JohnMcGrew on Fri, 12/02/2011 - 10:41am.

Like Jimmy Carter, he's lost control of his mind. Time to retire from public life. Say what you will about Nancy Reagan, but the moment that Alzheimer's started to make Ronald seemingly loopy, she kept him out of the public eye in order to preserve his legacy. Someone needs to do the same for Zbigniew.

Amazing to me

Submitted by 10sfan on Fri, 12/02/2011 - 10:40am.

that someone as supposedly intelligent as these two people can actually believe what comes out of their own mouths. Maybe Andrea should go to some of the many third-world nations that our country supports and ask them how heartless we are. It takes either tremendous gall or simple ignorance to actually believe that we are socially unjust. What I do think is that citizens are becoming a little tired of hearing people like Andrea Mitchell constantly denigrate the very country that has made her one of the so-called 1%. She bites that hand that feeds her, and with her obvious disgust for America, perhaps it's time she vacate her position and move to a more caring society, such as Russia, Iran, Iraq, or even the White House, which these days is inhabited by a President who delights in referring to Americans in much the same way as Ms. Mitchell does: "we've become a little lazy". I won't be lazy next November. I'll be energetic as I go to the polls to try and end this despotic regime that has invaded the White House.

10s I agree and what needs to

Submitted by inquiringmind on Fri, 12/02/2011 - 1:50pm.

10s I agree and what needs to happen is someone needs to challenge what these people say. Not just , " what do you mean", and then let them expand on their lies while Mika nods her head in agreement.

I mean challenge them and make them defend their position. Of course their argument would melt under a dim spotlight.

I always picture this is what a dinner would be like for liberals in New York City. They sit around and lament how the poor are so put upon and how someone needs to help them with some public funding project. All the while eating a dinner whose cost would feed a small town.

The validation of your comment is in this recent VIDEO that you may have already seen. It is an interview by a Daily Caller reporter of liberal millionaires who testified recently on Capitol hill that their taxes should be raised. When the reporter showed them the Treasury Department’s donation page on a laptop computer, and asked them to donate, all of the liberal millionaire hypocrites were unwilling to do so. Of course, they would be perfectly willing to donate someone else's money.

This is directly out of Orwell, the lie becomes the truth, the truth becomes the lie. This disgusting comparison of the Tea Party to the filth of the OWS should be an insult to everyone's intelligence. I'm glad Zibigniew the National Security Advisor to Jimmy Carter - this speaks volumes - finally revealed his true contempt. In fact he's just mirroring what most Democrats and all from the left feel about this country. They don't like this country or the culture, they should be deported, and it it were up to me they would be. We have to wake up this is the Democratic Party.

This shows how far these liberals are divorced from reality. ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE can fly to any thrid-world nation and do a cursory scan of their poor and compare then to the poor here. How are we "unjust"? The poor here get more in the way of standard of living and benefits than ANYONE else in the world. It's the poor who are risking life and limb just trying to get here because they know they WILL live a better life here.

Here in the U.S., there are greater opportunities and anyone can succeed and make a great living, even stupid people posing as journalists on TV who in real life have no talent and appearently, no brains.

Only America is "unjust"*

Submitted by cajun2 on Fri, 12/02/2011 - 11:21am.

Andrea needs to get out of the studio more often.  In the US, our "poor" have the same quality of life as a working wage earner making $29,000 a year. Everyone here has a right to vote, including illegals.

In other parts of the world children are dying but their leaders live in mansions, they have millions in foreign banks stolen from generous donations from Americans.

And if you are gay,  some countries disapprove

And if you are a Christian,  life can be somewhat risky

In this country, the injustice is to our children. We have a conspiracy of silence to protect pedophiles in all areas of our society. We have angry self absorbed brats that murder their children because they are a burden.  A woman with 15 children, a history of child neglect and irresponsible behavior  is homeless and says..."someone needs to be accountable". We live in a society that says no "happy meals" for our kids  because its unhealthy but its ok to murder 50 million unborn.

Liberals are not only annoying but can be very dangerous in their blind ideology.

And you bring up a very good point in the welfare queen epidemic. B-word and Adroidea are right, but not in the way they think they are. Social injustice is having working people's income taxed to pay all the bills of an illegal alien aunt whose nephew is a millionaire President and then having millionaire 'journalists' constantly banging the drum for more taxes on those same working class. That is the kind of injustice that needs "change".

I always thought Andrea looks like one of those aliens from the original (1983) TV Miniseries "V".

Socially unjust - America

Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan President, Pardons Imprisoned Rape Victim

Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Thursday pardoned an Afghan woman serving a 12-year prison sentence for having sex out of wedlock after she was raped by a relative.

Karzai's office said in a statement that the woman and her attacker have agreed to marry. That would reverse an earlier decision by the 19-year-old woman, who had previously refused a judge's offer of freedom if she agreed to marry the rapist.

They 're just so blind. One of their own was gang-raped in Egypt, and they had nothing more to say but to actually attack Republicans for questioning the wisdom of putting blonde, Western babes in the middle of barbarians. There really is no hope for the liberal establishment, they must win completely and rule over us or lose completely and be cut out from the public square forever like the cancer they are.

Yeah, they were 'just' about

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 12/02/2011 - 8:05pm.

Yeah, they were 'just' about the most hideous years that I've had to deal with in my adult life - but I'd say that Jimmah Cahtah has 'just' been eclipsed by Boy Barry as far as creating 'just' horrible circumstances.

Of course.............I'm self-(un)employed..........I guess if I worked for the Government, I wouldn't be saying this.
