Multi-Millionaire Alan Grayson Twice Calls The 99% 'Sheep'
For a guy Al Sharpton introduced as a "warrior for the 99%," Alan Grayson's got a weird way of showing it.
One of the richest members of Congress--till his constituents showed him the door in 2010--on Sharpton's MSNBC show this evening liberal Dem Grayson twice described the 99% as "sheep." Video after the jump.
Watch this trial lawyer who went on to become president of a Fortune 100 firm condescend to the people for whom he's supposedly a "warrior."
AL SHARPTON: Joining me now, two fellow warriors for the 99%: Van Jones, President of "Rebuild The Dream," and former congressman Alan Grayson, Democrat from Florida . . . Congressman Grayson, what will move congress? I've been down to Occupy Wall Street. We had our marches, as I said last month, people are still mobilizing. What will make the congress change, as we saw in the past?
ALAN GRAYSON: Think about what brought us the civil rights movement. We had a million people show up at the Washington Monument and demand their rights. We're going to need the same thing right now, but now it's not just one race. It's all Americans, it's the 99%, all of us who just can't take anymore. The sheep are looking up, and they're going to demand that congress listens

Now real people, real middle-class people in need, people that are suffering, people that are experiencing the misery of having their Social Security taken away, their Medicare taken away, losing their pensions, their jobs, their homes. ..."sheeple" when referring to conservatives or those who simply do not openly espouse a progressive political bent. I hear it all of the time from them as they continue their diatribe throughout my encounters with them. Of course, they believe they are being quite clever, but it hardly takes intelligence to be as cynically depressed and dissociated as they present. Probably a good 60% or more of my major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder (types I and II) patients openly espouse a progressive or leftist political philosophy, and I have yet to figure out why they would think I really care which way they vote. Rather puzzling at times.

Right, doc, but the incredible thing is that here, rather than speaking of political opponents, Grayson was referring to the so-called 99% of which he's a self-styled champion!

It is a repetition mantra of "liberals are smart, conservatives are dumb" falsehood which underpins the entire American leftist delusion of superiority and grandeur. Clinically speaking, "sheep" or "sheeple" is indicative of the type of language which supports such wonderful diagnoses on the personality axis as narcissism, attention-seeking and other cluster B symptoms that render liberalism the most self-centered and difficult population. In effect, Grayson is bungling a rather difficult political tactic. It is never a good idea to tell the voters they are too stupid to recognize how good you are for them, even though the media tried an all-out offensive using this to try to maintain the Democrat majority.
It's a psychiatry "been there-done that" observation. Just still never ceases to amaze me that any person would stoop to such naked narcissism in a broadcast.

...he is the last one who has any reason to identify with the mythical 99%. He IS the embodiment of the 1%, and by calling people sheep he is coming off like an elitist pseudointellectual liberal pig--but we knew that about him already.

I can't stand Alan Grayson but I think he is using "sheep" sarcastically.
As in Wall Street sees these people as sheep, but the "sheep" are going to rise up and take over.
He's still a hypocrite though: just another liberal millionaire who talks about "the rich" as if he's not one of them; it's "those people over there."

previously by saying they'd been called sheep I'd have thought the same thing. I read the transcript and didn't find any previous references.
So I looked back to previous OWS related interviews with Grayson and found he did reference the OWS as "cattle" in the context of "The cattle are saying we are not going to be cattle any longer, stop prodding us." So, the herd animal comparisons aren't unprecedented. Best case scenario I think its possible he mis-spoke. I still find it humorous.
