Chuck Todd: Populist Third-Party Presidential Candidates Will Emerge In Spring
Chuck Todd didn't cautiously couch his prediction. On today's Morning Joe, NBC's political director flatly forecast that third and/or fourth party presidential candidates will emerge in the Spring.
Todd based his bold prediction on the theory that there is a hunger for populist candidates, and that populism is not the way Obama or Romney [his presumed Republican candidate] "roll." Video after the jump.
Watch Todd make his pull-no-punches prediction.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: And Chuck Todd, a conservative told me yesterday that another problem with Romney--and with Huntsman--is that they believe, and I do too--they believe that a conservative populist, running this year could, in the words of Hank Williams, set the forest on fire, light the trees on fire [Joe later corrected himself. The song is "Setting The Woods On Fire."]
CHUCK TODD: You gotta get tough, you gotta get tough on Wall Street. The problem for Romney is he's going to look like Wall Street . . . I think this is what's burning. This is why we're going to have a third, fourth party that's going to pop sometime in the Spring. Third or fourth party candidates.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Wow.
TODD: Because the dissatisfaction: Romney and Obama in their bones are not populists. That's not how they run. That's not how they roll.

Romney and Obama in their

Romney and Obama in their bones are not populists. That's not how they run.
No, but Obama can pretend to be a populist. To wit: his "support" of OWS
Of course, he'll have a hard time explaining how he supports OWS and rakes in money from the devils at that same time.....
The Democrats are not going to cut off their noses by splitting the party, no matter who runs.
Wish I could say the same for Republicans.
Gallup polling: Leaning Conservative
Submitted by rwnewsnut on Tue, 11/08/2011 - 11:50am.
Did you see the story on cnsnews regarding the Gallup poll results?
"Self-professed conservatives now outnumber self-professed liberals in the United States, 42 percent to 21 percent, according to a Gallup poll published Monday. Another 37 percent described themselves as moderates."
We can take the House and the Senate. Then the Republican President will be the one to sign the bills the Congress sends up.
I hope there is a third party candidate on the left. They should be sick of President Wall Street. Let them splinter their vote.
It's all relative...

A large percentage of those who describe themselves as "moderates" would be seen as flaming liberals only 25 years ago. The liberals having infected the media, academia and even the GOP have shifted the whole spectrum to the left. It's been a political doppler effect. That is why so many regular middle-of-the-road conservatives are desfribed as "radical" and "extreme".

I hope that's not the case

I hope it's that new media has made it more acceptable to be a conservative. It is easier to hear conservative opinions than it was 25 years ago. We are showing daily how the institutions you mention are liberal safe-havens.
It is the MSM who still refer to conservatives as "radical" and "extreme". It is starting to ring hollow. People can see for themselves. They see a Tea-Party rally and see that it is filled with ordinary people. Then they see OWS and see the anarchists, hippies, and free-loaders - riddled with crime, drugs and filth.
I read that the McCain Mutiny

I read that the McCain Mutiny basically said the same thing - imagine that coming from Mr. 'I can work with my friends from across the aisle'!!! And these guys all know that a third (or fourth) party will splinter the opposition and give another 'victory' to Boy Barry.........although I'm sure that McCain isn't sharp enough to realize that.........he's still as clueless as he was when he was running for President, and helping Boy Barry get elected.
Oh, and F. Chuck??? You STILL look like some fraternity sophomore with your psuedo-facial hair................
Ironically Romney MAY run as 3rd party if Cain gets the GOP nod
Submitted by gopcongress on Tue, 11/08/2011 - 9:52pm.
My biggest fear with Cain's nomination (whom I support) is that Romney will think like Lieberman did when he lost the Democratic Primary. He will assume that he has the majority of "popular GOP voters" and would also be the great beneficiary of the anti-Obama votes. This would truly make it a three man race, as I see Romney getting a higher percentage of votes than Perot, who got almost 20% against Bush and Clinton. Clinton eventually won with <43% of the popular vote.
If anyone but Cain gets the GOP nod (besides Romney), then I don't see Romney going 3rd party at that time. But I don't trust him based upon his actions today responding to Cain's diplomatic answer at his press smear.
