Shrum's Paula Jones Memory Loss: If Cain Didn't Do Anything, 'Why In The World Did They Pay?'
Be kind to Bob Shrum. Perhaps the 68-year old is suffering from the not-so-early-onset of some dread memory-loss syndrome.
How else to explain his suggestion on Al Sharpton's MSNBC show this evening that the National Restaurant Association's settlement for a relatively modest sum, in today's litigious world, proves that Herman Cain must have done something wrong? Does the failed presidential campaign consultant's support of Bill Clinton, despite his much larger, $850,000 settlement with Paula Jones while "adamantly denying" her claims, fire any synapses in Shrum's cerebrum? Video after the jump.
Consider Shrum's sad memory lapse. And remember that the reported five-figure settlements by the National Restaurant Association represent no more than a long-week's work for a team of big-time defense attorneys.
BOB SHRUM: I think the only way through this is for a release of those records from the National Restaurant Association. You can redact the women's names. But what was he alleged to have done? What did the investigation show? And if he didn't do anything, why in the world did they pay tens of thousands of dollars to these women?

. . to remember enough to understand - to clearly understand - that Shrum's memory lapse is representative of the bulk of the MSM. Even if they did remember - they would - all in unison now - not mention it again. Ever.
They have a difficult time in remembering that the dot.com bubble collapsed in March of 2000 - long before Bush even got his party's nomination; yet - they often offer up that Bush inherited a roaring economy. I recall that once in late 2002, Al Gore had to correct Chris Matthews on that on that one - and it didn't appear that Matthews was buying it.

Payment does not imply guilt, how many payments have been made regarding the deliberate fleecing of McDonalds, Amusement Parks, small businesses and the inevitable 'slip n fall'? Video in public buses in my city are always catching the "injured" pulling their fake stunts, many have made a living off such nonsense.

The answer is so simple that I'm embarrassed to have to explain it to Mr. Shrum: if the amount the "accusers" will settle for is less than what it will cost in legal fees to take the matter to trial, then you settle. Simple economics.
I agree that the amount appears to be relatively modest and that

If I remember the article correctly, at a Restaurant Association meeting, Cain exhibited some "physical gestures" though "not overtly sexual in nature" made these "women feel uncomfortable". Is that how you would describe Clinton's behavior? And I'm not just talking about cigars and blue dresses here, either. How about Brodderick's claim of a 'fat lip' and the sympathetic, "You better put some ice on that, hon."?
You leftards are all alike, people like Murtha,Rangel or Waters can make obviously corrupt deals with tax dollars, neglect to pay their own taxes, engage in all levels of deceit and cronyism, and y'all look the other way, name libraries after them and hang their portrait in the halls of Congress. But let a conservative ignore a parking ticket, or even (gasp!) be broke and in the rears, and it's time to sic the dogs and light the torches.

I was accused at work of:
1. Stealing RAM (Computer memory for you non-technical folks)
2. Refusing to work an assigned shift at a client.
3. Infuriating a client due to "needless delays"
All untrue. I only "remember" these when I recall the Dept manager at my last job who accused me of #1 & #2, and yelled at me over #3. The arse never bothered apologizing either. And he really thought I'd join his new company when he left there to start his own consultancy. Jer, I recently was updating my resume and was thus reminded of that horrible boss. I do my best to try and forget crxp like that. Its not difficult to imagine Cain doing the same.

Free...re Herman Cain
Submitted by Jer on Tue, 11/01/2011 - 4:41pm.
First, notwithstanding my political and philosophical differences, I am a fan of Herman Cain. Not only are his academic credentials, post-education background, financial acumen and business accomplishments extraordinarily impressive, but also the fresh and somewhat unconventional approach he follows is a welcome and appealing contrast to the typical, formulaic, and more traditional campaigns for public office. [When was the last time a presidential candidate sang a soulful hymn in front of a group of media inquisitors?] Herman's energy, his maverick image, refreshing candor and natural charisma are the same qualities which prompted my early admiration for Sarah Palin [although Sarah's later decision to become a highly partisan sideline critic diminished her in my eyes while boosting her appeal to her conservative supporters].
Now, in light of the recent revelation of sexual harassment claims involving Cain over a decade ago, I find myself reacting with mixed feelings. From what I currently know of the substance of the charges--which isn't much--the 'offense' doesn't appear to be especially egregious nor the settlement particularly significant. And, frankly, I believe the disclosure of the episode, as I posted yesterday, could--and it may still--actually work to his benefit rather than his detriment, particularly so if Herman had responded directly and fully and consistently from the beginning. But, dammit, he answered like, well, like a politician! He initially claimed there was no settlement, or if there were a settlement, he was not aware of it and never told about it or had forgotten about it. And now his account has evolved to parsing and equivocating about it depending on what the meaning of the word "settlement" is. He was aware of an "agreement", but he doesn't necessarily equate that with a "settlement". So instead of standing on firm ground, he unfortunately managed to dig a bit of a hole for himself.
That said, barring some other related or unrelated bombshell, I don't see this as a campaign derailer. But, in my opinion, his shaky explanation and suspect recollection was more damaging than the known circumstances surrounding the original accusation of improper behavior.

Barack Obama Cheating Scandal, Affair With Vera Baker?

Barack Obama Cheating Scandal, Affair with Vera Baker? Wow, this news is interesting to say the very least. Last night news was breaking via The National Enquirer that President Barack Obama is having an affair with a woman named Vera Baker. According The National Enquirer, Barack Obama and Vera Baker were caught in a Washington, DC hotel together. The Obama scandal says: “a confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old VERA BAKER in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions.” The ENQUIRER has also learned that on-site hotel surveillance video camera footage could provide indisputable evidence. This is news that will definitely start spreading like wildfire this weekend if there is even a remote chance of evidence or truth to it. According to reports, independent anti-Obama agencies are offering more than $1 million dollars to reports and resources that come forward providing substantial evidence to confirm these rumors.
Here’s the news that The National Enquirer is breaking:
A confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old VERA BAKER in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions. While Baker has insisted in the past that “nothing happened” between them, the ENQUIRER has learned that top anti-Obama operatives are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair. Among those being offered money is a limo driver who says that he took Vera to a secret hotel rendezvous where the President was staying. On the condition of anonymity, the limo driver said he took Baker “from a friend’s home in the DC area to the Hotel George where I learned later that Obama would be spending the night.” The driver recalled that he “waited in the lobby while she went to change her outfit. “But to the best of my knowledge she did not have a room at the hotel and she was not staying there so I thought that it was a bit odd.” The driver said he then picked up Obama at the airport and drove both he and Baker to various locations while he was campaigning for funds. Vera accompanied him to each meeting. “About 10:30 PM, I drove them to the hotel and they went in together! My services for the evening were done – and there was no indication she was going to leave the hotel that night.” A top DC source told The ENQUIRER exclusively that the driver’s account had been independently corroborated by investigators who believe the couple spent the night together at the hotel. The ENQUIRER has also learned that on-site hotel surveillance video camera footage could provide indisputable evidence. “Investigators are attempting to obtain a tape from the hotel (that) shows Vera and Barack together,” the DC insider confided. “If the tape surfaces, it will explode the scandal.” Hat Tip:

Cain's Appearance on Greta Van Sustern
Submitted by definer on Tue, 11/01/2011 - 10:32am.
Cain appeared on Greta van Sustern's show last night. From what he can remember (it's been at least 12 years) the formal complaint was found to be baseless but apparently was alleged after the woman had left the NRA's employment. He said he was told by the General Counsel that the payout amounted to what would have been a routine severance for a person who left the organization under good terms. He said he believed it would have been around three months salary for someone making $40-50K a year. At $50K three months salary would have been a "five figure payout" of $12,500.
Sounds to me like someone got laid off/fired and wanted some cash. If what Cain says is true (and no reason to disbelieve him) then she got what she would have gotten in a friendly parting of the ways and much less than trying to fight a baseless charge.
