Kinsley Claims 'Too Fat' Christie Lacks Self-Control To Be President

By Mark Finkelstein | October 01, 2011 | 09:40

A  A

Is Michael Kinsley sure he wants to go down this path?

In a Bloomberg View column and then in a clip run on "Good Morning America" today, the liberal pundit claims Chris Christie is "just too fat" to be president.  According to Kinsley, Christie's weight is evidence of a lack of the self-control necessary to be an effective president.

If self-control is a key requirement for the presidency, I wonder how Kinsley would apply that standard to other recent occupants of the White House?  GMA video after the jump.

I'll be back with a transcript. But in the meantime, if Christie never met a cheeseburger he didn't like, what about Bill Clinton, who never could say no to a, well, you know.  For that matter, consider the current prez.  Michelle has claimed he's quit smoking, but as recently as last year his doctor said that he'd been unable to shake the pernicious habit.  I guess W must be a Kinsley hero, considering he had the self-control to quit drinking cold turkey at age 40.  Reagan and H.W. were famously fit.  Where do they rank in the Kinsley presidential pantheon?

Bottom line: go away, Kinsley, and take your tofu curd with you!

It must be OK to bully fat people

Submitted by nkviking75 on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 9:50am.

One of the big fads on the left in recent years is to fret about bullying. A closer examination of the subject makes it clear the left is mainly interested in protecting LGBT people. I spent my childhood putting up with abuse for my weight, so seeing the media, allegedly run by adults, using their power to bully Gov. Christie is especially galling to me. It's another appalling example of media hypocrisy.

I was going to mention the same thing. I thought we were supposed to embrace people's differences and were supposed to give the benefit of courtesy to people who may have a biological or psychological reason for being overweight. Or gay, or a cross dresser, or left handed, or an atheist, or a person who desires to use gender non-specific restroom facilities, or whatever.

Well my (rhetorical) question to Kinsley would be, Where was he, and where were his fellow caring, sharing, and ever-so concerned about the welfare of all others Libs, to critique Michael Moore's movie about our apparently ailing and failing healthcare system, once upon a time? because Moore's not exactly Charlie Atlas, but I didn't hear a word from them then.

Christies not being bullied , he's a man confident in himself and his abilities.  I really don't think these skanks are getting to him.   Just think about WWII Roosevelt --wheelchair--Churchill---overweight---Stalin--BatS___insane but they got the job done.  There was a song back in the 30's or 40's called "Aren't you glad your you?"  Yeah I am.  Make the best of what you've got and do the best you can.

Clinton's Control

Submitted by libBuster on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 11:14am.

President Clinton's lack of control over his impulses in the actual Oval Office is apparently of no concern to Kinsely. What an unprincipled hypocritical twit. NK and NViking are right to point out the Kinsley is engaging in left wing bullying.

From the ADA: (ii) Being

Submitted by ThePickle on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 12:40pm.

From the ADA: (ii) Being overweight, in and of itself, generally is not an impairment. See 29 C.F.R. pt. 1630 app. § 1630.2(h) (noting that weight that is "within 'normal' range and not the result of a physiological disorder" is not an impairment); see also id. § 1630.2(j) (noting that, "except in rare circumstances, obesity is not considered a disabling impairment").

Further it should be noted that according to the APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)... obesity and overeating ....... are NOT listed in the most recent DSM as mental disorders... whereas Impulse Control Disorders are.

So if being over weight is neither a disability nor a mental disorder as defined by both Governmental bodies and Professional associations, is anything that comes out of Mr. Kinsley's mouth more than just another political hack spewing venom?

Impulse control disorders in Democrats...

Submitted by drsamherman on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 7:58pm.

....can be colloquially described as "open mouth - exchange feet" disorders.

Seriously, impulse control disorder is a family that includes trichotillomania (hair-plucking), pyromania, kleptomania, intermittent explosive disorder (IDO), pathological gambling and such.  Most are self-explanatory, and concomitant (co-morbid) obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is not uncommon.  For example, an obsession (fixed false delusion) feeds into a dominating behavior (compulsion).  When diagnosed together, it increases the complexity of the case and treatment has to be broadened.

In the case of IDO, this is frequently diagnosed in more severe ADHD cases in children and adolescents though some adults may also be affected.  The problem with IDO as a singular diagnosis is that we try to identify and address what might be triggering mechanisms or circumstances, and this is not always an easy task.

For Bill Maher, his impulse control disorder trigger is phased for conservative women and minorities, conservatives in general and any random group that seems to have crossed him that morning.  He seems to be a prototype for all liberal comedians.  Thorazine Garofalo tends to display a similar type of impulse control disorder layered over an erratic combination of anhedonic symptoms and cluster B personality disorder features.

Obama smokes, Clinton eats & well, you know

Submitted by felizagain on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 6:37pm.

Our president smokes.  He partakes in the deathstick.   Isn't he too skinny?  Now, they say he's stopped...who believes that.  Moreover, when he ran, and won, and was sworn in, he smoked like a chimney....no control for decades.  Did they even care?

Clinton - he ate like crazy, and he chased women.  They all knew, & he could not control himself. Did they care,

not much.

Immediately, the tolerant, diversified, kinder, no bullying allowed mainstream media.......went to the following -

Perry - Stephanie Miller jokes he may be gay, NY Times indicates he ain't too bright, rest of media, he's too pretty, or he's too much like that awful man Bush.

Romney - He's Mormon, so PBS ran out the Mormon series again, he's building a house that's too big, so they jump on that, he's a cold fish, he's too perfect, he's too dull, he's too wealthy, he's too liberal, he's too conservative, he's an evil businessman.

Newt - he's too old, too chubby, too much of an adulterer

Bachman- they did the Palin Technique on her asap, too pretty, too attractive, too Christian, too powerful for her husband, too far right for anyone with a brain, etc.

Now, Christie is too fat.  Uh, Sharpton ran for President and he was very fat.  Did they ever mention that?  No.

Bill Clinton has fought his weight all his life. Al Gore, have you seen this guy, even in 1999, he wasn't a toothpick folks. Not to mention the wives....hello?  Is this on?

Christie is a big man.  Height and weight and voice and stature.  So what?

Who is Kinsley and who in the

Submitted by mang on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 8:06pm.

Who is Kinsley and who in the world decided that his opinion was relevant?  Unbelievable.  I'm so sick of liberals thinking they are as pure as the wind-driven snow.

I use to watch Kinsley years

Submitted by Semus on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 10:22am.

I use to watch Kinsley years ago on a debate program called Crossfire I think, his opponent was Pat Buchanan, he also has Parkinson's disease. At the time didn't agree with his politics but I thought he was honest. He certainly isn't honest anymore, perhaps he never was.

Who knows what he believes, he could be a hard core lefty, or a "Useful Idiot" since he's a Rhodes Scholar I suspect it's the latter, thoroughly indoctrinated. It's tough for the left they can  never reveal who they really are and what they really want. Occasionally, accidentally the truth is revealed, it's always frightening. They have to live and act in the shadows like vampires.

Libs are trying to bully Christie

Submitted by nkviking75 on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 12:23pm.

I agree that Christie is not letting the fat comments get to him, but I think it's fair to say that the libs are at least trying to bully him.  And that is hypocritical.

The stats don't suggest particularly shortened lives for overweight people, but hey--for the sake of argument, if Christie is tempting the fates--we better get in him there now! Is that what the libs are trying to tell us--hurry up, harness this power?

You're right - "anti-bullying" was hijacked by LGBT agenda

Submitted by 1389 on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 5:43pm.

Ironically, when I was a kid I was constantly being bullied for the opposite reason - I was of notably small size and stature.

You're right - that's what the entire "anti-bullying" thing is about. The left doesn't give a rat's patootie about anybody being bullied who doesn't happen to be in one of the left's favored and protected classes.

It just goes to show that there is no word or phrase, and no well-intentioned campaign, that they won't try to hijack.

Yeah, what happened to that anti-bullying crap?

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 6:58pm.

Its ok if  libs doing it to a right winger. Why is it the fat heads insult the fat guys? Christie can lose weight-can this clown ever lose his idiocy?

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. BEN FRANKLIN
