Tamron Hall Chides Ex-Bush Aide for Not Cheering Obama on Libya

By Mark Finkelstein | August 22, 2011 | 15:17

A  A

Want to watch an MSM version of Stand By Your Man?   Check out the video here after the jump.  Tamron Hall, theoretically an MSNBC show "host" and not a pundit, gets visibly upset with Michael Singh, a former foreign policy adviser to President George W. Bush.  Singh's sin?  Apparently being insufficiently enthusiastic in his praise of President Obama's handling of the Libyan situation.

The irony is that Singh is anything but an isolationist.  Singh supported the Libyan intervention and hardly came across as a hard partisan.  But apparently anything short of fully prostrated praise for the prez is enough to bring down the Wrath Of Hall.

IWatch the normally affable Tamron get ticked!

TAMRON HALL: We have a number of members of the GOP who are running for president who criticized the strategy of this president, and now here we are watching the rule of Qaddafi end six months after the United States and NATO launched these attacks, and the unprecedented coalition as the president saw it.  So, looking at what's playing out now, this administration seems to have made the right call here.

MICHAEL SINGH: Well, I think it's natural now that the president would try to take some credit for what seems to at least tentatively be a successful conclusion to this phase of what's happening in Libya.

HALL [getting exercised]: And what's wrong with that?--when he was heavily criticized by many including Mitt Romney, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.  And he did not take credit--he applauded the coalition, the decision made to have these strikes. He would be criticized if it did not work and it appears to have worked.  So are you unable to say that the decision made by this administration was the right decision?

Libya: This is how to topple a regime

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 3:27pm.

1.  Send aid to in country rebels looking to topple evil dictator

2.  Support those rebels with air power and arms only, absolutely no boots on the ground

3.  Organize a grand coalition and give operational control to our allies

4.  Rinse and repeat as needed until the tyrant is defeated

Viola!  Obama is a genius.  This should have been done in Iraq in 2003, Afghanistan in 2002, Iraq again in 1991, Vietnam in 1963, Korea in 1950, Germany and Japan in 1941, Germany again in 1917, Spain in 1898, the Indians around 1875, the South in 1861, Mexico in 1848, the Barbary Pirates in 1804, and against England in 1776.

You Neo-Cons and your wars of expansion and imperialism!  Obama has a better way.

You are absolutely correct! This is one of many violations of the Constitution, and contempt of Congress. O'Blame-o has been ruling by decree since day one...stroke of the pen, law of the land. This IMO makes him a dictator, and yet a great deal of people dont see it, since the LSM wont report on it. Can you just imagine the rage if a Republican president acted this way? IMO, he should be impeached, he has abused his executive order privilege, and uses it as a way to skirt every Congressional act, and parts of the Constitution he does not agree with. I do believe this falls under the "High crimes and misdemeanors" that call for impeachment. Does ANYONE in Congress have the courage to initiate impeachment charges??

And remember, he did it in "...days, not weeks". It has taken about 180 days so far, so it was accurate to say "days". Also, 180+ days is measured in months, so it is accurate that it has not necessarily been weeks.

So, what he said was correct... from a certain point of view. I guess it depends on how far you willing to bend your principles to support this guy. So far, it looks like the media is willing to bend pretty far.

This is Why He Toppled It

Submitted by JustAl on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 4:54pm.

1. Afore mentioned evil dictator renounced terorrism and WMD development allowing open inspections so the US wouldn't do exactly what Ohamtser did. (That should teach those despots around the world to believe us when we offer guarantees so they'll disarm).

2. Afore mentioned evil dictator was deposed by jihadists who openly bragged about killing Americans in Afghanistan last year. Now, thanks again to Ohamster, maybe they can get back to Afghanistan before the snow flies. After all, by denying the troops requested, then prematurely taking away what he did send, he's pretty much made the rest sitting ducks.

It seems pretty obvious his goal is to empower and embolden enemies of the United States and broaden the power of fundamentalist islam.

You Neo-socialists and your wars against American interests! Obama's way is clear. . . and it's out the back door with the rest of the trash.

I"m Saying

Submitted by JustAl on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 5:20pm.

Libya was none of our business. His fumbling has cost us $millions and we will be left in a worse position.

I'm saying you don't fight wars just to boost your polls, and you don't change strategy in wars just to boost your polls. War isn't a game and no war, none, can be won without "boots on the ground".

Obama didn't "win" anything in Libya except the mistrust of everyone we offer a "peaceful" solution to with regards to disarmament. If we'd stayed the hell out of it, the jihadists who did win, would have been tied up for years (and many of them killed). But now the POS you seem to worship has saved the day for them, so they can live to fight (us) another day. And now that the afore mentioned POS has thinned the line in Afghanistan they can do even more damage.

Please explain who you could possibly, under any circumstances think I was talking about WW2.

PS
Please accept my sincere apologies, I had not recognized the sarcasm intended by your original post. My son has had a couple of really close calls recently and his unit has suffered more casualties in the last month than the one they replaced did in their entire deployment. "Unprecedented?"

Submitted by CobraMan on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 3:55pm.

Did she just say "unprecedented coalition?" What's unprecedented about it? President GHW Bush had a 80 nation member coalition during Desert Storm, including Saudi Arabia! As far as NATO "humanitarian" military involvement in foreign countries, does anyone remember Bosnia? The only thing "unprecedented" about Obama and Libya is that Obama launched the attacks BEFORE NATO was involved and any "coalition" was formed.

JFK/Johnson had a "coalition" in Vietnam (France, Australia, New Zealand). Not a very big one, a couple of hundred troops on the Australian side for example, but a coalition nonetheless. It is "unprecedented" for the First Black American President. I wonder if that is what she meant?

RE Allied troops in Vietnam

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 5:17pm.

During JFK/LBJ years, the French were gone, but among the most effective allied troops in country were the Australian Task Force (which included a small number of New Zealanders), and the South Koreans (ROK), who had two ROK infantry divisions operating in the Central Highlands where their fighting prowess and unrelenting handling of the Viet Cong reduced VC activity to practically nil. There was also a ROK Marine brigade attached to the USMC III MAF in CTZ I adjacent to the DMZ.

There is nothing unprecedented in Obama's 'coalition.' Clinton ran a similar NATO coalition in Operation Allied Force, where the US assumed the predominant strike role.

Obama also violated the War Powers Act . . .

. . . which his predecessors complied with, so maybe that's unprecedented. I've gotten the impression of the last 10-15 years that the majority of news talkers are relatively ignorant of history, and that's why they are prone to echo talking points rather than adequate assess situations.

The real question isn't -- nor has it been -- about whether or not Gaddafi's regime survived; it's about what takes its place. If Libya devolves further into inter-tribal retributions and warfare, what does NATO do, and what kind of legal and moral commitments do we have, and how much will it cost?

But just like the killing of bin Laden, the MSMers will rush to hang a "Mission Accomplished" sign on Libya. Watch out for the coining of the term Obama Doctrine.

It's my impression that they assume, that we, the little man, is ignorant of history, or any other subject for that matter, and that we'll accept anything they say as fact whether what they say is true or not. After all, most of the journalists are college graduates and, therefor, "well educated," unlike the majority of Americans, most of whom never did, nor never will, attend college. The reason that they repeat it so often is that they believe that we will accept a falsehood to be true though simple repetition.

There's a big problem with that doctrine: Repeat a lie often enough... and people will find out it's a lie.

Ok you are obviously a troll that has not provided any links, or direct quotes to back yourself up but here are few to back ME up. First, no such thing as a friendly democratic regime but on the right path.

The rebel Transitional National Council of Libya is more democratic than the Qadhafi regime and represents a wide spectrum of the country, the Obama Administration has said.“This is obviously not the democratic end state that we’re looking for in Libya, nor is it the democratic end state that the TNC itself is looking for. TNC has set itself on a road map that leads to elections and leads to the right of every Libyan to vote for their leadership.

and in case you just missed it, here it is again

"U.S. Freezes a Record $30 Billion in Libyan Assets"

Don't see Tea Party any where in that NY Times headline or article.

Now if you mean the Tea Party wanted to ensure that we followed the law in declaring wat then yes, they did attempt to block an illegal war

"Libya intervention: Tea party and liberal Democrats make unusual allies"
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2011/0321/Libya-intervention-Tea-p...

and to quote the artilce listed above
“Imposing a no-fly zone over a country is an act of war,” said Rep. Ron Paul (R) of Texas, noting that the air war over Libya occurred on the anniversary of the US attack on Iraq. Like Iraq, “this could go on for a long time,” despite White House claims to the contrary, he added"

and

"On the left, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D) of Ohio said: “War from the air is still war,” and called on Congress to be called back into session immediately to decide whether or not to authorize the United States’ participation in a military strike. “Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution clearly states that the United States Congress has the power to declare war. The president does not. That was the founders’ intent.”

and since you missed that here is the actual part yet again

“Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution clearly states that the United States Congress has the power to declare war. The president does not. That was the founders’ intent.”

So get a clue and back yourself up with facts.

Go back and re-read the question to which I was responding.  Phryingphis asked:

Hall's simplistic argument that getting control of Tripoli = Fall of Gaddafi = Libya wins = Winning USA Strategy leaves a lot to be desired. I would have liked to have heard Singh's answer to the video you cut too short but I suspect Singh would argue that tossing out Gaddafi is not necessarily a win if Libya then plunges into chaos with no strong central government...especially if it gets radicalized...and we're still early days for judging Libya a success or failure for US policy.

And my wife read a report yesterday saying a NATO troop carrier landed on the coast of Libya - and disgorged Al-Qaeda fighters! So, are we now on the same side as the people who killed 3,000 of our citizens at 1 and 2 World Trade Center, and killed (and continue to kill) thousands of our troops?

Are we not only being surrounded by nincompoops (with apologies to Gene Hackman) but also by our enemies? Is our very own President of the United States boxing us in with no hope of escape?

I almost hope Ghadafi's sons have a nuke planted in Tripoli. It would serve this administration right. (And it'd take out several thousand civilians, but that's what happens when you start an illegal war - you get some blood on your hands.)

And Morgan Freeman too...

Submitted by Slyrr on Mon, 08/22/2011 - 7:15pm.

Seems like 'getting XXXXed off' is a recurring theme for the liberal media and liberal hollywood. And they should be angry. Their failed president and his failed policies have collapsed like the house of cards we all knew they were. We predicted their failure before they implemented policy #1. And their policies will continue to fail, because they are based in, grounded on, and conceived in lies. Which means the libutards will continue to get madder and madder as their failures continue to pile higher and higher.

Small wonder that Morgan Freeman, one of Obama's blind cheerleaders, is now screaming and frothing that he wants Obama to 'get XXXXed off' and that he'll 'vote for him 1,000 times' if he can get away with it.

Well - Freeman is stupid. When he was younger, he was smarter, and admitted it. In an episode of the Electric Company, the 'Spider Man Up Against The Wall' sketch, Freeman yelled and screamed 'I can be pretty STUPID when I wanna be!'

Yes you can, Mr. Freeman. Yes, you can.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Hell, the characters he plays are smarter than he is.  I have more respect for his characters than I do for him.

take credit for. Who is going to run the Country of Libya? Is this country going to be nothing but pure Anarchy for the next 10 years? With all of the people Obama likes to encircle around himself with, Anarchy is exactly what he wants.
