ABC Financial Expert Slapping S&P As 'Suspect' Is Undisclosed Obama Fundraiser

By Mark Finkelstein | August 07, 2011 | 10:13

A  A

The predictable MSM reaction to Standard & Poor's downgrading of the US government's credit rating? Kill the messenger, of course.  Yesterday, we noted how Jeff Glor at CBS' Early Show parroted the Obama line about the downgrade being "political."

Today it was ABC's turn.  Good Morning America had on Mellody Hobson, a regular ABC "financial contributor" and former host of her own ABC financial-advice show. Hobson hit S&P hard, expressing the view that "everything that they do is suspect."

There's just one little factoid ABC didn't share with viewers. While presented as a presumably objective financial expert, Chicagoan Hobson in fact is an Obama partisan.  Hobson served as a big-time fundraiser during Obama's 2008 presidential campaign and is involved with his 2012 campaign.

View video after the jump.

DAN HARRIS: America's credit rating has now been knocked down a peg by Standards [sic] and Poor's.  This morning a question a lot of people are asking: who are these people who have sat in judgment of America?

. . .

DAVID CURLEY: Who is Standard & Poor's?  One of the three major rating agencies which highlight investment risk.  S&P is considered the gold standard among these.  But that standard has was tarnished when all the rating agencies said those mortgage-backed securities, which brought down the economy, were solid AAA investments. Hauled before Congress, some now question that agency's credibility.

MELLODY HOBSON: Now they come in, and they flex. As if they've been, you know, this bastion of, of correctness, when they've completely been wrong.  So now, everything that they do is suspect, in my view.

I wanted to see how the MSM

Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:31am.

I wanted to see how the MSM networks were handling the downgrade. She was on.  I had no clue who she was but she was sure talking out her ass. After just about a minute I figured she was a big 0bama hack  and turned the channel. Why won't the networks make a full disclosure about people like this?

gangsta politics

Submitted by MidAmerica on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:31am.

There will probably be a coordinated attack on S&P to intimidate the other credit agencies to keep them from following S&P's lead.

Oh yeah it has already

Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:40am.

Oh yeah it has already started. The Democrats got their talking point out in record time. I am not watching the Sunday shows because I can already tell you what the Democrats guest are saying. Barney Frank started making the rounds Friday night.  Within a matter of minutes S&P goes from the darling of the left to one of the most corrupt in the US. The Republicans are getting it too. Never mind that the Chairman of S&P said they were wanting 4 billion in cuts. That seemed to be entire reason behind the downgrade. He did say if Congress got to 4 billion in cuts the credit would be upgraded. Sure not going to hear that from the left or their ass kissing buddies in the MSM.

Submitted by MidAmerica on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:51am.

If there is one thing the Lefties are good at it is vicious personal attacks against their opponents.  I am sure investigators are busy right now going over the personal lives and private contacts of the top echelon at S&P.  Any personally embarrassing information or political leanings not supportive of the Left's worldview will be trumpeted as proof of the biased and merely political decision to downgrade by S&P.

Not only corrupt, but racist, I'm sure.

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 11:08am.

I'm waiting for Al Sharpton to rail that this is obviously a racist attack against the first black president.

They don't think Obama can manage the economy because he's black.  Or something.

I still haven't seen any explanation.....

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:37am.

I still haven't seen any rational explanation as to why S&P still rates the UK's debt at AAA, when their debt to GDP ratio is 400%. We could go 1 trillion in the hole for another 42 years before the US got to that stage.

I'm not saying that would be a good idea.  I just don't understand the discrepancy.

Another black commentator demonstrating blind loyalty to Obama

Submitted by cbeyer on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 9:10pm.

Its outrageous that it was not disclosed that this woman had worked for (and continues to) for the Obama campaign. But of course, with her being black, its another way or inserting race into the topics by suggesting that those who dont support our socialist POTUS are all racists.

The black community have been in loyal servitude to the Democratic party for years and now with a 'brother' in the white house its even more intense.

True Journalism is dead in the MSM. Just wait until next year. They will be in full defense of Barack O. and will attack those who question his polices with frequent inferences (and oughtright) of racism.

Journalists used to be watchdogs for the people. Today`s so called journalists are nothing more than LAPDOGS for the big spending SOCIALISTS in the US. ABC News is the leading LAPDOG of the Socialists.

If even Communist China is

Submitted by rbosque on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 12:27pm.

If even Communist China is lecturing us on our finances, then perhaps the left better get a clue. It's also easy to read a balance sheet. For this administration to carry on the charade that whatever they do wrong is everyone else's fault, I would be very wary as to what the WH says.

Of course the WH and the left don't think very highly of their constituents if they know any kind of BS that they spew is believed by them.

Submitted by agingcynic on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 12:43pm.

While he was here in Boston, Glor had the dubious distinction of planning an online video of his wedding and then selling advertising space on it to pay for the wedding. Enterprising? yes. Innovative? Yes. Classy? Not so much.

Man, when Humpty-Dumpty ( Obama ) finally gives up on his incessant teetering and just falls to the ground, the stench will be all ( of the MSM, corrupt unions, democrat party ) consuming.

..........and Obama's amerika will quickly return to being the United States of America once more.
