Contessa Brewer's Attempt To Discredit Tea Party Freshman Boomerangs Bigtime!
Contessa Brewer doesn't have a law degree. So perhaps the MSNBC host was unaware of the old cross-examination adage: never ask a question to which you don't know the answer.
Arguing with Rep. Mo Brooks today over raising the debt ceiling, Brewer attempted to discredit the Tea Party Republican freshman Member of Congress from Alabama by asking "do you have a degree in economics?"
"Yes, ma'am, I do. Highest honors," [from Duke] answered the courtly congressman. Ruh-roh! Hat tip NB readers CWH and Felix B.

A good interviewer always does his/her homework.
- Know the subject's bio (e.g. marital status; education; associations/affiliations; prior occupations and offices held)
- Know what the subject is currently doing, and get familiar with recent quotes, statements, etc.)
- Select a few points of contention (e.g. changing positions)
Dems and Reps admit that this is what made it so tough to prepare for appearances on Meet The Press. Russert knew his stuff, and could respond to the guest's points with video or text from the guest's prior statements or appearances.
Brewer is weak in this area. Even if they are handing her a script, she should be going over it with a fine-toothed comb and asking her writers questions about what they are having her say. Maybe she's just not bright enough to comprehend the value of tripping your own trap door.
And as someone else posted, has anyone ever questioned Obama's knowledge of economics? He's proven to be weak on geography (57 states), languages (Austrians speaking 'Austrian'), military parlance (corpse-man), and IT (the internets).

But the reality of the poll is, it is skewed toward Democrats (as always) and it is a poll of adults, not registered voters or likely voters, which again skews the results.
If people want a tax increase, why didn't the Democrats let the Bush tax cuts expire last December? For that matter, the Bush tax cuts are set to expire after the next election, so unless Congress acts to stop it, taxes are going to increase in 2013. So why are the Democrats so insistent on Republicans agreeing to raise taxes now?
They want political cover for the next election. The GOP would be absolutely foolish to give it to them. Which doesn't mean they won't.

There is an idea in there - a reversal of the deal that Democrats offered Reagan and GHWB. Cut spending now and in 2013 Congress will allow the Bush tax cuts to end. Given a couple of years to restructure the tax codes they should be able to keep their promise, unlike the Democrat Congress, without hurting the economy.

Yesterday I gave Brewer the benefit of the doubt on her comment regarding the pie attack on Murdoch and British public sentiment.

Brewer joined MSNBC in September 2003, after working for WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. She has also worked for KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, California from 1997 to 1999, and KRNV-TV in Reno, Nevada.[1] KMIR and WTMJ-TV are both owned by Journal Communications.
In spring 2005, Brewer served briefly as a news reader on the Imus in the Morning radio show, which was syndicated nationally.
