Halperin On Obama Presser: 'I Think He Was Kind Of a D--k'
When Mark Halperin asked if the seven-second delay was working prior to offering his observation on President Obama's performance at his press conference of yesterday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski seemed to assume he was joking, and invited the normally mild-mannered pundit to proceed.
But it immediately became obvious that the joke was on the Morning Joe hosts, because when he spoke, Halperin said of Obama "I think he was kind of a d--k yesterday." As evidenced in the screengrab, Mika and Joe reacted with shocked amusement.
View video after the jump.
Watch Halperin beat the director, finger hovering over the delay, to the punch!
MARK HALPERIN: Do we have the seven-second delay today? I want to characterize how I thought the President behaved.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: We have it. We can use it--right [Executive Producer] Alex?
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, sure, come on, take a chance. Have faith.
BRZEZINSKI: Let's see what happens.
SCARBOROUGH: I'm behind you. You fall down, I'm gonna catch you.
BRZEZINSKI: And the precedent has been set on the show, so you're good [a reference to Joe dropping an f-bomb back in 2008, leading to the installation of the seven-second delay].
HALPERIN: I thought he was kind of a d--k yesterday.
SCARBOROUGH: Oh my God. Delay that! Delay that! What are you doing? I can't believe you--I was joking! Don't do that! Did we delay that?
Halperin went on to explain that in his tough talk about Republicans, he thought PBO was "posturing" for the benefit of his base, while damaging any lingering trust and mutual confidence with the Republican leaders necessary to reach agreement on a deal preventing a government debt default.

Candidate Obama called for higher taxes and more spending; doing a Walter Mondale on his candidacy. Mondale said "I will raise your taxes" and lost almost every state in the union. Obama has said over and over, in word and in deed that he will raise taxes.
Quoting Michele Bachmann - "I take him at his word" on his pledge to raise taxes too. In my book, being a spendaholic and an unrepentant tax raiser (think Obamacare) makes him more than a D--k, it makes him Dangerous.

Now do you see why interventionism doesn't make sense? We send millions (perhaps billions) in "aid" to support Mubarek, now we're going to spend "aid" in supporting his opposition, and we're doing the same thing in Libya. We have spent taxpayer dollars fighting al qaeda and spent thousands of lives fighting them but now we're going to support a group sympathetic to them. This is Orwellian: We have always been at war with Eastasia.

Also, does anyone else see any comparison with the movie 50-First Dates, about a girl who wakes up every morning with no recollection of the past? Seems to be a requirement at the White House to start each day with a clean slate - yesterday didn't happen -- what, we're at war or how can we have a deficit when I have not spent any money today?

Anyone notice how he said "his base of voters"? Maybe a candidate would say that -- but a President?
I guess that's not what he meant when he lied in 2008: "bringing everyone together".
And I wonder which country his "base" lives in? Certainly not in the America I know.

Obama doesn't understand leadership
Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 06/30/2011 - 9:06am.
Leadership is more than weighing facts and options and making a decision. There is no such animal as "leading from behind" as one of his anonymous staffers reportedly described the Libya debacle.
Because he has never actually led anything of significance prior to his election in 2008, Obama appears lost in the job. The golden words and Hope and Change and yadda-yadda-yadda that got him to the Oval Office aren't enough to run a country.
Bush-43 was not a great President, but he had a sense of his role and his responsibilities and did his best to perform them.
Obama, not unlike Clinton, is a poll-driven politician who is focused more on his legacy than on his job. He defers important decisions that he prefers not to be associated with, and he injects himself into issues (like the Cambridge police episode) that he has no business engaging.
I think the public is now aware that while many themselves are unsure of the actual role and responsibilities of the POTUS, Obama ain't hackin' it.

And as always, "I've been at work, I have been in Afghanistan, Bin Laden", bullshit is beyond the pale. He's been campaigning since he announced two months ago, I don't know where he gets time to actually be a president. Please don't let him get reelected, it's an embarrassment for our country. I suspect that for most of his life, Obama was surrounded by people who praised him for whatever he did or didn't do. He was always told that he was intelligent and articulate and the rest.
Now, he's chafing under criticism from people who only two years ago thought he walked on water. Being intelligent and articulate isn't enough -- we're grading his work.
So, he reacts as a boy reacts when criticized: "It's not my fault, I inherited this mess. Hey, I killed bin Laden, you know. And I saved the country from another Great Depression by creating two (three, five -- pick any number) million jobs. I . . . ." He doesn't understand that people aren't going to praise him for merely doing his job, but they will criticize him for doing it poorly.
And more and more Americans are getting tired of the whining. They want a grown up in the Oval Office.
