Politico's VandeHei: 'Not Any Single Reporter At Any Media Organization Thinks Palin Should Be President'

By Mark Finkelstein | June 14, 2011 | 08:03

A  A

People know that the MSM despises Sarah Palin.  Still, it was shocking to hear the beans so blithely spilled . . .

Jim Vandehei of Politico, on Morning Joe today:

"If you talk to any single reporter at any media organization that we're aware of, I don't think that anyone thinks she can be president or should be president."

View video after the jump.

Vandehei was reacting to a column by Joe Scarborough in today's Politico, "The media's creepy Palin obsession." The Morning Joe host lambasted the MSM's bias against Palin, as epitomized by this week's Palin-email witch hunt by such worthies as the New York Times and the Washington Post.

JIM VANDEHEI:  Palin wasn't on the stage [at last night's Republican debate] but people continue to be obsessed with her.  Joe has a good column on our site today where he talks about this: this bizarre media obsession with Sarah Palin.  He talks specifically about those emails.  I guess I'll be curious to hear a little more from Joe, because you guys talk about her a lot, we write about her a lot,  yet if you talk to any single reporter at any media organization that we're aware of, I don't think that anyone thinks she can be president or should be president," yet she gets a ton of coverage and I think that the emails really capture that moment.

New rules:

Reporters are to observe and report
Reporters are to interview actual participants in events that unfold in life, not other reporters
If Reporters decline to stick to this formula, they should be labeled as Editorials

What an echo chamber these lib reporters live in.

Around in the 60s and 70s too.

Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 06/14/2011 - 4:21pm.

Doc - I remember the daily slime barrage against Reagan starting the day he announced his candidacy. The news pukes threw everything that they erroneously believed would stick against the man but none of it worked. His re-election campaign was even worse, and the media stuck to the "Mondale is our Messiah" mantra.

I especially remember the digs that SNL took at Gerald R. Ford, including a fake interview with Jane Curtin as Betty Ford complaining about her husband's gaffes.

Nowhere to be found is the level of desperation that the press has against Sarah Palin or any other Republican. Even in the darkest days when the press all but abandoned Jimmah due to his economic calamities did the press ever sift through the wastebaskets as they have with Palin.

To say the media are snakes is an insult to reptiles of all kinds. At least the reptiles have a purpose other than scooping each other on synthetic scandals.

What Vandehei describes is journalism's group-think

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 06/14/2011 - 9:01am.

I'm reminded of an anecdote that Bernard Goldberg recounts in his best-selling book "Bias."

It was the night of the 1972 Election (Nixon vs. McGovern) and he was attending a posh election-night party on New York's Upper West Side, attended by MSM elites and their friends. As results came in and Nixon's landslide victory became evident (McGovern won only 1 state), one of the women -- who earlier had been confident of a McGovern win -- was in shock. "How can that be? I don't know anyone who voted for Nixon."

MSMers reinforce each others worldviews and opinions. What they tout as rigorous analysis of is little more than incestuous group think.

Well most of us know that Palin is smarter and much more intelligent than the MSM after all, she has them running around the country chasing her... is that not funny or what. I thought that it was humorous that she proved them stupid when making her comment about Paul Revere`s ride and then the MSM tried to make her out as an idiot and not knowing our history when in fact Revere wrote in his1789 letter describing his ride did make the exact statement telling the British they will not disarm the American people.

So..."if you talk to any single reporter at any media organization that we're aware of, I don't think that anyone thinks she can be president or should be president..."

I can think of no greater endorsement of Sarah Palin then to know that these self-focused liberal clowns don't like her. Hell, its not that they simply don't like her, they seem obsessed with her, driven for some unknown reason to destroy this private citizen who stands for nearly everything that most Americans believe in. Oh...well, maybe that's it. Sarah gets much more face time on the national media than any of these idiots do. Maybe they're just jealous? Waahhh...

Why do you think most of these reporters ('er jourNOlists) went into that profession rather than engineering, chemistry, or physics? I think they just read other folks reporting (and most of that today is quite liberal) and try to add their own lickspittle to it and then take a nap or have another beer believing they have done great service to civilization. I doubt many of them even make the effort to vote and some even brag about that as a sign of some sort of neutrality of thought or some such nonsense.

Of course the idea that no one in the vaunted media thinks Palin could or should be president is the absolute best case for her to occupy the White house. Right - instead of trying these ideas out, they just bad mouth them and ensure they *can't* be implemented, so when a new crop tries to get them passed, they dismiss them!

That's what blows me away - I watched and learned more history during the financial meltdown than I did in 40+ years, and knew we were headed for a lost decade ala Japan. This was predicated on not only their experience in the 90's, but our own during the depression, yet they implemented these tired old ideas anyway?

But we must shout down/destroy the only ideas that ever DID work???

Who went from local Alaska politics to effecting legislation from a post on facebook.
Please name someone, anyone who has written a post on facebook or like site and affect legislation, any legislation?
"If she can't handle the heat in Alaska, how will she do it in Washington, D.C.?"
Just fine. The president of the USA wouldn't be backing all these bogus ethics complaints if she was President.
"She is divisive, vindictive and thin-skinned."
Yawn, examples please.
"She ran a state that reaps billions in oil revenue."
Are you claiming she is responsible for oil in Alaska? News flash, the oil in Alaska was there longggggggggggg before Palin was born, before Reagan too!
Considering Oil is huge in Alaska it kinda sorta makes sense that Alaska would reap billions in oil revenue.
"Let here take a crack at the House or Senate first."
She can take a crack at whatever she wants. She doesn't need my permission, or yours.

From JurNOlist moments of shame.
The day after Palin was picked as VP.

"Daniel Levy of the Century Foundation noted that Obama’s “non-official campaign” would need to work hard to discredit Palin. “This seems to me like an occasion when the non-official campaign has a big role to play in defining Palin, shaping the terms of the conversation and saying things that the official [Obama] campaign shouldn’t say – very hard-hitting stuff, including some of the things that people have been noting here – scare people about having this woefully inexperienced, no foreign policy/national security/right-wing christia wing-nut a heartbeat away …… bang away at McCain’s age making this unusually significant …. I think people should be replicating some of the not-so-pleasant viral email campaigns that were used against [Obama].”"

Are We Supposed to Care about Old Media Opinion?

Submitted by Pharmer on Tue, 06/14/2011 - 1:47pm.

These people think that Obama should be president and serve as his stenographers. Why do they think their opinion of Palin is significant?

When are they gonna go through Obama's e-mails?

Did they change the headline?

Did Politico change the headline for the article? Clicking on the article's link takes you to the story with the tamer and less-descriptive headline: "The Palin obsession"

If true, this just means

If true, this just means those reporters are more perceptive than their work suggests.

Being "more perceptive than their work suggests" implies you have never actually had a job. Perceptive is irrelevant as a result only important as a skill, performance results is the proper measure. If those reporters cannot produce a truthful or objective factual assessment then they failed in their performance of their assigned tasks. Hence,  the reason NB exists.

ringing endorsement!

Submitted by Injest on Tue, 06/14/2011 - 6:47pm.

"Politico's VandeHei: 'Not Any Single Reporter At Any Media Organization Thinks Palin Should Be President'"

Now that's a ringing endorsement!

Let's go through this mental giants thought process and qualifiers.

Jim Vandehei of Politico, on Morning Joe today:
"If you talk to any single reporter at any media organization that we're aware of, I don't think that anyone thinks she can be president or should be president."

“If you talk to any single reporter”
So, only Single reporters, not married reporters or reporters involved in a relationship.
Only Single reporters, groveling at the end of the bar, drunk at noon time.
Hey is he talking about AA Randi Roads?

“at any media organization that we're aware of”
How the he11 would someone know what "media organization" you or someone else is aware of?
Your at MSNBC! The vast majority of the world has no idea MSNBC exists!

“I don't think”
Agreed, you don't think.

“that anyone thinks she can be president”
So your a mind reader? That is what your claiming, that you can read minds.
Opps, sorry, just found out your part of “JurNOlist”

“or should be president."
And?
