Moore: Obama Should Use Power Over Auto Companies To Kill Cars, Replace With Mass Transit

By Mark Finkelstein | May 24, 2011 | 21:12

A  A

Want to know how socialists think? Check out Michael Moore on MSNBC this evening, urging President Obama to use the government's power over the auto manufacturers to . . . kill the internal combustion engine and replace cars with mass transit.

As everyone knows, politicians and pundits know what people need better than billions of people themselves.   You don't want to ride the rails?  Tough: yes you do.  Watch Moore make his government-knows-best suggestion to kill the engine of progress to Larry O'Donnell this evening.

Video after the jump.

Watch Moore describe how socialists really think once they get the "power".

MICHAEL MOORE: The auto thing is a good example too of where I wish Obama would just, if he would just ratchet it up another notch. Yes, he saved the jobs of all my friends back in Michigan.  But now that we sort of control the car companies, let's get them doing mass transit.  Let's get them doing things that are going to save this planet.  Because the internal combustion engine is not going to get us to the 22nd century. That's just not going--we're not going to have a planet. That has to stop.  And I just thought: gee, we have this power. You know, you can do things.

Mass Transit for the Masses

Submitted by Chris Norman on Tue, 05/24/2011 - 10:52pm.

Mass transit as the main mode of transportation was a hallmark of corrupt socialistic regimes (think the USSR) where the poor masses who couldn't afford cars (even with lawn mower engines) had to take the subway or street car to get around, while the privileged classes rode around in their Zil limousines. Yeah, sounds like just the kind of society and transport system that Moore would admire...

If it's not New York?

Submitted by Darasen on Tue, 05/24/2011 - 11:31pm.

To some extent mass transit is very handy and nice to have. I lived in D.C. (Fairfax) for about a year and found I mostly liked the transit system there.

That said when people suggest mass transit every where it is clear they are large city bound elitist. The idea sounds great when you only commute between L.A. and New york city but for the vast majority of the country it is just no good. We are far too large and spread out as a nation to rely on such a system. There is no way to provide logical cost effective to areas like central Florida that aren't in the middle of Tampa or Orlando. What about areas like Kansas where some towns populations are just a bit over one-thousand ? Elitist like Moore only think about where they are and themselves.

Or Texas

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 05/25/2011 - 12:06am.

Or the state of Texas which is between 600 and 800 miles wide depending on north to south and east to west.  Dallas from Austin is about 200 miles, or Dallas to San Antonio is 280 miles(give or take a couple miles) or from Austin to Lubbock is about 380 miles....you get the idea.

This is why cheap gas prices (should be between 1.20 to 1.50 a gallon) is important, we can go further without charging 100 dollars to fill up a 25 gallon tank.

Mass transit doesn't work too well here in Texas because of the distances, but we do have the buses, commuter planes, and Amtrak trains.  But now that Janet Nappy is sending her goons to those kinds of locales besides airports, people are going to want to take their own vehicles.(by the way, the surpremacy clause allows that the Texas law recently passed which makes it a felony for a TSA to do anything more than a standard patdown OVERRIDES the federal agency; they tried to say that the supremacy clause of the Constitution allows them to do those patdowns, and they are VERY wrong)

We enjoy the freedom of choice of traveling whatever way we wish without government interference.  But the federal government(actually a dictatorship at this point) is trying like hell to interfere with our lives.

Mass transit is ok. Masses of liberal lard forcing it is not ok

Submitted by lrgon on Wed, 05/25/2011 - 9:38am.

America was going the "mass transit" way before the federal government got into the action. The federal money started rolling into the states during the Ike administration. The interstate highway sytem sucked up all the money for 4 laners and left little incentive in the free market and for the states to invest in an economically viable mass transit sytem.

Today the rage among eco-freaks is mass transit. Eco-friendly mass transportaion for the proletariat will be the answer to all of our prayers( do ecofreaks pray for the system or just prey on the system?) they tell us in commercial after commercial called "the news."

New Mexico's former Governor strapped the taxpayers with a white elephant called the "Rail Runner." . http://newmexico.watchdog.org/1550/railrunner-costs-eating-nm-alive/

Moore may be an idiot but idiots like him have convinced politicians to put the nation into more hock.

Ecology is expensive in terms of lost capital and loss of liberty. Moore may not be aware of how nutty his ideas are but policy planners and politicians do know. And still the nation's leaders insist on forcing taxpayers to board the mass transit bus bound for the delapidated bridge up ahead.

Replacing cars with a mass transit will not do any good in the country. By doing this it will affect car dealers the most. Not only that it will also affect some of the parts sales such as hitch covers, roll pans, brakes and other car accessories.
