Cenk: Why Not Treat Leaker Bradley Manning Like 'Hero'?

By Mark Finkelstein | April 14, 2011 | 21:03

A  A

Cenk Uygur can't figure out why accused Army leaker Bradley Manning isn't being treated like a "hero".  Seriously.

Uygur's guest on his MSNBC show this evening was P.J. Crowley, the former State Department spokesman who was forced out of his post for publicly criticizing the treatment of Manning while in detention awaiting trial.

Cenk whined as to why Manning isn't being accorded the "hero" treatment that Daniel Ellsberg received from some for his leak of the Pentagon Papers back in the Vietnam day.  But P.J. presumably surprised Cenk, strongly supporting the prosecution of Manning, saying he "caused damage to the United States and our interests around that world," and that his "prosecution is quite necessary."

View video after the jump.

Watch a clueless Uygur wonder why Manning, accused of violating his soldier's oath and harming the interests of our country, isn't being treated like a "hero."

CENK UYGUR: P.J., talk to me about this. When Ellsberg did the leaks, by a lot of the country he was seen as a hero, because he let us know what was going on, and it was important in figuing out, democracy, which way we should go. And he didn't have any of this. Now, you have a leak, and, my God, the reaction is like he's the Unabomber.  What's changed in this country that there's such a stark difference in that period of time?

P.J. CROWLEY: Well, I want to be clear: I believe in this prosecution. I believe it's important that we protect our secrets.  I believe that the leak of these documents to WikiLeaks has in fact caused damage to the United States and our interests around the world.

We may rue the day we ended DADT in the military.

Submitted by merly1 on Thu, 04/14/2011 - 9:22pm.

Gays historically have been big risk takers, and unfortunately in the job market the reckless behavior of gays can have devastating effects, ie like this case. Another case in point--> the massive, decades-long ephebophilia scandal that brought the Catholic Church to its proverbial knees, again the product of gay priests targeting adolescent males. Hero behavior? Hardly.
While many gay males are outstanding citizens, and daring behavior often can pay off handsomely, say in a Hollywood or Wall Street career, it is amazing the positive and negative impact a mere 2% demographic can have in America. Good luck to us all................................

Don't Know What to Think, Cenk

Why Manning isn't a hero

Open note to Cenk.

Manning isn't a hero, because he's a F*#@*&# traitor to his country.

That you don't get that shows what a "great American" you are. (Brain dead as well)

Submitted by MichaelPaladin on Fri, 04/15/2011 - 6:53am.

Actually the answer is simple................

The Pentagon Papers was done under a Republican Administration, WikiLeaks was done under a Democrat Administration.

Just think if Manning had released all of this while Bush was still president, he would have been a hero of the left, guess Uygur didn't get the memo.

Anti-American interests

Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 04/15/2011 - 7:40am.

It's funny how the MSM, including this sinking idiot, have vested interests in hurting the country.  This is true because of their support behind the Chairman.  So support for this traitor is no surprise.

I really wish someone or at least some of these guests like crowley would call them on it.  It'd be sauce for the goose.

Benedict Arnold was a hero too!

Submitted by CobraMan on Fri, 04/15/2011 - 3:57pm.

I guess, according to Cenk, we should revise our views of Benedict Arnold for reveling the location, strengths, and movements of our troop to the enemy and claim him as a True American Hero. After all, he was just telling the truth!
