Charles Blow: Don't Allow Trump On TV To Express Birther Views

By Mark Finkelstein | April 11, 2011 | 07:51

A  A

Donald Trump might be off base with his birther views. But does that mean he shouldn't be allowed on TV to express them?  Yes--according to Charles Blow of the New York Times.

On Morning Joe today, Blow asserted that the MSM is wrong to give Trump air time on the birther issue because "we know that this is not true."

View video after the jump.

Consider Blow's curious suggestion that the MSM collectively knows various things to be true, and should ban those who disagree.  What else does the MSM "know is not true"?  Who else should it collectively ban from TV?

It was a Trump interview with CNN's Candy Crowley that set Blow off.

DONALD TRUMP: If you come out and say, and even question, the press goes wild.  They get angry at even the question.  And the fact is, if he wasn't born in this country, he shouldn't be President of the United States.

CHARLES BLOW:  . . . Every time someone allows Donald Trump to come on the air and talk about this issue, they're being exploited by Donald Trump. We know that this is not true. Every time we mention his name in relation to this issue, we're being exploited.

Without wanting to insult her guest, Mika seemed to question Blow's call for a Donald ban.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I'm not sure it should go that far, Charles Blow, but I hear what you're saying.

That video....please try reloading it. I can't even find where to play it...it says "Pressflow" and there are scroll up and scroll sideways bars, but they don't do anything.

Having said that, Blow's "we [the MSM] know that this is not true"....all I have to say is PROVE IT. With the long form birth certificate, and how about Obama's Selective Service form, his SS number(s), and oh, say, his applications for college.

Even worse...if that's possible

Submitted by Blonde on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 8:19am.

That video....just wow. I didn't think that statement could possibly be more arrogant and condescending than it appears in black and white.

It appears that I was wrong.

I also liked Mika's whining "why won't he listen to me?". Hint to Mika....apparently he thinks you're a twit, too.

Mika Brezbimbo....

Submitted by adamsmith on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 9:27am.

The look on her face 27 seconds in is priceless. Open mouth incredulity as her two braincells fight each other for something typically stupid to come rolling out of said open mouth. I've never been a "Birther", but after a few questions have been raised, I have some doubts. Why has Obamalinsky spent over a couple million to hide the Long Form BC, AND his school records? No one throws away a couple million for nothing.

As far as Charles Blow and his permanent condescension, he and all other Communist enablers in the media( maybe 95%?) are the reason "Empty Suit" is in the big chair in the first place. Geraldine Ferraro was right when she said if he was white, no one in their right mind would back a Senator with 141 days under his belt for President. One good thing about all this is they have ALL exposed themselves for the manipulators they truly are as they are disguised as journOlists..Pathetic.

Trump's not going to stop, and I, for one, am happy about it

Submitted by Blonde on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 9:40am.

There are just too many questions which remain unanswered. The more Trump hammers it, the more the MSM is exposed as covering up for Obama. Because the question of Obama's birth, and whether or not he holds dual citizenship, due to his adoption by Lolo Sotero, are certainly valid. Furthermore, I find the issue of Obama's sealed college records disturbing...did he apply for financial aid as a foreigner? What about his passport and his trip to Pakistan, when Americans were prohibited from travelling there? And finally, there is the issue of two social security numbers, neither originating from Hawaii, as well as his apparently extremely tardy registration on 2008 forms for the Selective Service....about 27 years late. Ahem. No amount of "poo-pooing" by the media make the questions any less valid.

All Obama needs to do to quiet the furor is to release the documents. Which he has steadfastly refused to do. Hmmmm, can anyone in the media say "smoking gun"? I didn't think so.

The other great thing about Trump continuing in this vein is that it totally exposes both the leftist elite and the media as arrogant and condescending. Blow's comment "WE know it....so you peons STHU".

Once Donald becomes bored with yammering about Obama's eligibility, he'll turn to his policies. Libya is turning into a QUAGMIRE! QUAGMIRE! QUAGMIRE!...which is what the media ought to be screaming, but aren't. The longer Donald Trump is out there running his mouth as only a multi-millionaire of his stature can, the more Obama is being exposed as a dolt and a fool, and most likely a fakir.

GO DONALD! (I'll never vote for you, but I'm truly enjoying the show).

The marxist media seem to be

Submitted by rockyracoon on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 10:17am.

The marxist media seem to be following the willfully ignorant template they created when John F'n Kerry wouldn't release his DD-214, I believe. And that is ignore it, and it'll go away. It worked for Kerry, and so far to our collective dismay it has worked for Zippy. But as you stated the media's culpability in stonewalling is coming more, and more into the light by Donald Trump's quite reasonable curiosity.

I don't know if it was Dr. Sowell who said it, but when the dam breaks one cannot direct the water where to go. The Donald is doing well in breaking that dam constructed by the marxist media and their credibility is going down the drain with it.

I see Trump using the tactic

Submitted by stratman on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 3:20pm.

I see Trump using the tactic of running his opponents to ground all the while gaining free publicity for whatever his calculus is about.  He has quickly flushed out many Leftists in the MSM and our own resident provocateur Jer.  If Trump trees Obama on the birth certificate issue, it will deflate the messiah's water wings a bit and probably lead to a deluge of folks hammering Obama for the other records he is hiding.

Flush 'em out, Donald!

Strat, I agree with you on

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 4:05pm.

Strat, I agree with you on what Trump is doing. I may not agree with him on the issue but it is a great tactic. It forces people to look at the LSM and their complicity in covering up the many questions that should have been answered when the Absentee President was a candidate.

I may be wrong in my analogy but what what Trump is doing is somewhat like a diversionary tactic.  Present yourself as a target and have the enemy disclose their position and have them concentrating on one portion of the battlefield whilst ignoring the other area's.

And come 2012 I would like the GOP to employ one of General Pattons tactics, grab em by the nose and kick them in the ass.

I'm not convinced The Donald believes Obama was not born in the USA. He may be using this birth certificate as a wedge, or a diversion, to get publicity or maybe something else as the end game. It is more than a little odd that Obama would actively suppress so much documentation about his life, especially since he wrote, allegedly, two autobiographies.  I am loving every minute Trump lifts up the Left's skirts on this issue.

I'm lovin it !!! The Donald won't go far, but it's going to be a fun ride. Unlike real pols who are afraid to offend, Trump let's her rip. He campaigns like John Daly plays golf. Grip it and rip it! Cool. Particulary enjoyed his comments on Gail Collins. I've been saying that for years. She writes as dumb as she looks. Hope the Donald gets after all NY Slimes hacks.

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 8:31am.

. . . and as long as he's willing to spend his money, he'll be visible.

He angers more folks than he wins over, but he doesn't care, and that's refreshing. But he could never win the GOP nomination because of two words: Vera Coking.

That's doesn't mean he couldn't run as an independent, but he wouldn't win that way either.

The liberal's answer is always to suppress speech

Submitted by c5then on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 8:51am.

They are never willing to argue the facts, they always want to silence the view that they disagree with. Come on! if the issue is that off base then it should be easy to destroy in public with available facts to show how stupid and kookey the idea is.

Why have I not seen one instance where the MSM puts up the relevant facts and utterly destroys the birther argument? Why have they not found some childhood freinds of the President who remember growing up in Hawaii with him? Why have they not found some college freinds who remember hanging out with young Barry Obama at Occidental College or Columbia or Harvard?
Come on guys...do some journalism and put this issue to bed once and for all.

If you can?

They found all kinds of info on the history and development of G.W. Bush. They even managed to get a hold of his college transcripts that showed him to be a B-C student at Yale. We have all kinds of stories and information that the MSM has discovered on all of our sitting President's except this one. Why is it that this particular President seems to be the biggest mystery since Big Foot? You can't use his "biography" "Dreams from my Father" because it was written by Bill Ayers for political reasons.

What's the payoff for the MSM to suppress BO info?

Submitted by Red Jeep on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 9:28am.

Do they really believe that socialism/communism is best for the country and THEIR children?

Sadly, if you're going to

Submitted by wiwf on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 8:55am.

Sadly, if you're going to disallow people to speak on TV because of being Birthers, you're going to keep many top GOP politicians off the air. Just keep Trump off of TV because he's really doing this for a show, and not even Republicans should think he stands any remote chance of pulling off an upset.

Donald Trump has every right

Submitted by marpel on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 9:54am.

Donald Trump has every right in the world to speak his doubts regarding BO's birth...he's also got every right to spend a ton of money with the PIs he's hired to find out the truth. I think it's so cool that someone has the balls to question BO's origins out loud. We have no idea how far Trump will go in the GOP race. Remember, people said this about BO and look where we are now. Frankly, if Trump was running against BO in the general, I'd vote wholeheartedly for Trump. Go, Donald, Go!!

My guess is that Trump has no

Submitted by celator on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 10:11am.

My guess is that Trump has no real intent to be POTUS.

What he's doing is going after Obama's Achilles Heel (one of many)--the empirical evidence that he is who he says he is. THAT'S the issue. The birther thing is one small part of that story. Watch for Trump to expand his search for the "real" Obama.

Good grief, the press can't even find a single person who even knew Obama in his past lives. Trump's PI's will find them, and then the circus will begin. That will open the door for Republicans.

That's my guess, but who besides Mrs. Trump really knows what The Donald is up to?

Hey Charles Blow me!

Submitted by Newsbubba on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 10:55am.

Trump is doing the country and the Republicans a huge favor, and with HIS money, not ours!  He is pounding Obama's flanks on the "birther" issue, which means that others don't have to waste their time and political capital on it.

Obama will have to spend time and money attacking Trump, which will divert his resources away from the rest of the issues.

I say Trump is a great negotiator, and he is proving it.  When you start bargaining with someone, waste their time talking about crap that doesn't mean much to you, but may to them.  Wear them down with it, then switch at the last minute to the subject that is your real interest.  The Donald is doing that service for the Republicans.

There is also the chance that "birthers" may, just may, be right.  Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass for this country.  We were rolled by a "community organizer" with zero experience at anything except covering his personal history tracks.

Show me the proof.  Quit telling me; just show me.
