Mika On The Brink Of A Domino's Breakdown

By Mark Finkelstein | March 14, 2011 | 08:58

A  A

Is a pizza about to push Mika Brzezinski over the edge?  Seriously.  Her frantic reaction to finding her daughter and friend sharing a Domino's has me worried about Mika's state of mind.

Regular Morning Joe viewers know that Mika's dream job would be as Kommissar of the Food Police.  Her concern about obesity, particularly of the childhood variety, is commendable.  But her solutions--heavy-handed government intervention of the sort Mayor Bloomberg has made infamous--would flout individual liberties.

Things came to a deep-fried denouement this morning, as a quasi-hysterical Brzezinski described her horror at discovering girls . . . eating pizza.

View video after the jump.

It was Morning Joe guest Charles Blow's New York Times column on the subject of childhood obesity and the role of the government that set Mika off.

Watch . . . and worry about Mika's frame of mind.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I will tell you, Saturday night, my daughter and her friend ordered Domino's online.  Do you know the horrific --

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Oh just stop.

BRZEZINSKI: -- mound of crap that they had for dinner?  It was pizza, these fried chicken balls, cinnamon sticks

ED RENDELL: Mozzarella sticks.

BRZEZINSKI: That's what that was? [Inaudible] fat. And then chocolate something with something that oozes out when you cut it open: lava cake.
I walked in the room and looked at this display of sickness on the table. I was horrified! Horrified.  This is how people eat.

Funny Coincidence:  At 'Right Angle,' the conservative political TV talk show I hosted in Ithaca for 12 years before recently moving to Texas. we were sponsored by--you guessed it--Domino's!

The fact that this is Mika's

Submitted by motherbelt on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 9:08am.

The fact that this is Mika's "favorite subject" is telling.

I don't know how old Mika's daughter is, but assuming she is a minor, why doesn't Mika just tell her "NO DOMINO'S!!"

What she is saying is that she is powerless to prevent her kid from eating crap, so she wants the government to do it for her by taking it off the market.

Is there a Childhood Obesity Crisis

Submitted by libBuster on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 9:51am.

Is there really a childhood obesity crisis or is it a creation of the left designed to foist new regulations upon us? Children often put on weight in anticipation of growth spurts. Are we counting these children as obese? Leftists have a lot of solutions that are looking for problems.

Child obesity appears to be greater now . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 10:49am.

. . . than 30 years ago. I don't have the data, but I've seen some. And this despite decades of education about good nutritrion on the schools and even on TV -- far more than I got in the '50s-'60s, though we did get some. The answer to children's dietary habits is not government regulation; it's the parents. Children don't have the independent means to buy fattening foods. If parents don't want the school cafeterias to sell pizza, candy, and sodas to their children, then they petition their school boards to put a end to it. But the 'progressives' like Mika don't trust parents to do what the progressives want them to do, so they seek Federal control. It also gives the progressives an excuse for saying "No" to their children, which they appear averse to do on their own. Mika knows best.

Probably for political correctness. After all, they don't want anybody getting hurt playing dodge ball.

We used to get bruised playing that game, especially with those little heavy red playground balls they used to have.

I got a busted lip more than once. It was seriously big fun.

Ruk,

Submitted by Dave. on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 4:31pm.

LOL - Yeah, I got popped there numerous times.

We had a game we called battle ball, which was like dodge ball except there were four or five balls involved at one time.

There were some people that could really put some mustard on those things (including me), and you could hear and feel the breeze when one would go wizzing by your head.

I saw a alot of the smaller kids get hit while in mid air, and they would land on their behinds due to the force of impact. I was nearly 6' tall at the time, and I once got hit in the ankle so hard it flipped me over and I landed on my shoulder - and we were playing it on the basket ball court in the gym.

Of course, that was back before our schools became so totally wussified.

If a bunch of kids were to play that same game today, the teachers would probably faint, then march the students off to some anti-violence re-education type class.

Fear of lawsuits and disdain for competition

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 5:36pm.

The liberal influence on curriculum emphasized that no student should be made to feel lesser to any other student, and no more is this more apparent than with physical activities. Some kids are just more athletic than others, but this should not be a rationale for eliminating phys. ed. Kids should be allowed to burn off energy and have fun.

Food

Part of it actually is the food. Everything these days has high fructose corn syrup in it. That wasn't the case 30 years ago. Remove the hfcs and let kids run around and play and the obesity problem will be solved.

The President declares his loyalty to the unions versus the American taxpayer. Imminent possible nuclear catastrophe. AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT PIZZA?? Domino's? Good grief! No wonder she's upset, their pizzas still are the worst. Papa John's or Pizza Hut would have been better choices. Best choice? A local pizza from a restaurant where they know what they are doing. There's got to be at least one decent pizzaria in the city in which Mika lives, right? /sarc NOTE: Sorry, Tomorama, but my opinion is that even though Domino's have improved their ingredients they are still not very good pizzas. Locally Papa John's and Pizza Hut still are better. But several of the local and regional pizzerias around here still have them all beat.

My Uncle & Aunt lived in

Submitted by Beukeboom on Tue, 03/15/2011 - 10:01am.

My Uncle & Aunt lived in Fairhope on Scenic Hwy 98 near Point Clear. They used to take me and my brother to eat at the Grand Resort on our birthdays when we were kids.

And my brother lived in Daphne right out of college and commuted to Mobile to work (he eventually moved to Slidell and last year moved to Theodore). I know that whole area well.

When my wife and I drive to Biloxi we usually stop at Loxley to get fresh produce at Burris and IF we have the extra time (usually we don't) we keep going south to Foley to shop.

Incidentally I have photos online of some of those places over on my Panoramio photo album.

If Mika wasn't taking that

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 10:44am.

If Mika wasn't taking that daily handful of appetite suppressing as a side effect, prescription anti depression drugs, plus Valium on demand, to keep her from jumping off the roof at 30 ROCK, she would've been sitting down right next to her daughter for some of that pizza and chocolate lava cake.

The answer to the question is NO!

Submitted by Ashrak on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 11:04am.

Government has no authority over what people eat or do not eat. Government usurping the authority over what people eat, now that is what makes thinking people "horrified". Has Mika had malaria too? Maybe a new super bug is making its way through the MSNBC staff. Someone should explain to Mika that when government has the authority to decide what people eat, she may be forced, by that government, to eat Dominoes EVERY DAY! Maybe a moment of insight would come about if Joe was to put that to her.

Today's Children and Obesity

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 11:44am.

Two reasons why children are fatter today then 30 years ago:

1.  Less physical exercise

2.  More prepared foods, both at home and "eating out"

Submitted by Utherpend on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 12:36pm.

Poor Mika, I bet she had to go and find out if the Butler or one of the house keepers ordered the Pizza for the girls. I mean I am sure if they asked one of the cooks to prepare them a Tofu Veggie non dairy product pizza everything would have been ok. Some one on the household staff will have to be disciplined with a stern talking to and perhaps let go for allowing the Mistresses Daughter to sample the real world foods.

Lazy Liberal

Submitted by John21 on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 12:41pm.

Too lazy to raise her children, it is not bad parenting to say no to a child sometimes, I know that maybe hard for the soft hearted (headed) to buy, but it is no reason to use the government to make your decision. The weak parent can then tell the child they should be mad at the government but you can still be my pal. Children have enough friends and pals but only a limited number of parents. Parents need to provide guidance and discipline so the child can make the right choices on their own. Obviously Mika needs lots of help in that department, maybe the government can have marines guarding Dominos to check for permission slips (would that make her happy).

OMG - Not Pizza!

Submitted by IrateNate on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 1:38pm.

Well, that tears it. I'm convinced. We can no longer allow children to be raised by brainless parents. The only way is to have all children raised in government-supervised camps. Once you sign the waiver at the hospital, no parental contact will be allowed until the age of 18. This is a win-win, as the children's behavior can be controlled 24/7. We can not only control what they eat, but what they do, how they act, and what they think. And now, mom and dad can get along with their lives, now that the pudgy little brats aren't cramping their style. What could go wrong? Is this a great country, or what?

Domino's???? I'd rather have

Submitted by marpel on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 1:43pm.

Domino's???? I'd rather have a Papa John's. Pizza is actually good for you in moderation, so I don't know what this nutty woman's problem is. If her daughter is old enough to order a pizza online, then she's old enough to make her own choices in what food she eats. So, Mika needs to butt the hell out.... Now, if the girl was sitting there smoking a crack pipe, that's a different matter... Pick your battles, Mika..

I'M SENDING MIKA A GIFT CERTIFICATE........

Submitted by Herbster on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 6:28pm.

I'm sending this practicing moron a gift certificate to Pizza Hut. I think her Domino's concern for her daughter was that she might swallow the little black rectangle with the dots on it. Pizza Hut will clear up any confusion on Mika's part. I shudder to think what the daughter will be like when she grows up. By the way, is there a MR. Mika? His first name must be "Ball-less." Sings as a castrati in the choir. Could you imagine being married to this inbecilic harridan? Scary thought.

Parents and societal effects

Submitted by scarebear83 on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 7:01pm.

For starters, younger kids shouldn't have cell phones, or be online/play video games for an extended amount of time. Second, it's harder to get out and play today when some people can't take jokes. My parents told me of things they did in high school that today's kids would get expelled for (like rolling the band director's car up on the stage or taking the piano and putting it in a different wing of the school). In today's society it seems like some people want the kids to act like 21 at the age of 12.

Instead of Mika getting upset her daughter is eating it, she needs to be a parent and tell her no. But even then, having a pizza night with a best friend every once in a while will not kill you. Everything in moderation and the parents need to step up and get the kids off this technological addiction that places them at having to be in front of some kind of screen every few minutes.

"... they slash prices, drown in their sorrows, punch buttons, and kill time. I won't tell you what they do to eggs. They blow up photos, hang plants, crash at a friend's place and then when they're done arguing they bury the hatchet." -Mork

and I recall seeing an interview with Madonna, in her new found British accent of course. I knew this Mika thing sounded familiar!

Madonna was so very strict about what she lets her offspring eat. I wouldn't eat a thing that woman does.  I also recall her talking about the fact she doesn't let her offspring read magazines or watch television. Can't be seeing mommy's harry armpits, right?  UGH.

And these are the folks telling us how to raise our kids or that government should be deciding for us?

Oh and you folks up there talking about fried chicken.....

THAT'S RACIST!!!!

Mika is UNWATCHABLE!

Submitted by 1dottiemarty on Tue, 03/15/2011 - 8:10am.

I can not even watch this show anymore. She has her nose so far up in the air I can not stand to look at her nostrils all morning. The whole show is unwatchable. Isn't Joe the "no labels" guy? Yet all he does is rip people. That's all they do on MSNBC is rip people. I especially find it appalling that Joe rips Newt SO MUCH. I read online Joe had an affair of his own with his intern and she turned up dead in his office, and he resigned from office shortly after and got a divorce. (something like that) So to see them rip Newt for cheating seems a bit disgusting to me. Unwatchable!
