Kristof Concerned King Hearings May Offend Muslims In 'Radical Mosques'

By Mark Finkelstein | March 10, 2011 | 08:51

A  A

Isn't the existence of "radical mosques" in America the  problem?

Nicholas Kristof is concerned that Cong. Peter King's hearings into radicalization in the American Muslim community will cause Muslims, particularly in the "more radical mosques," to feel that people are "picking on" them.

View video after the jump.

Kristof offered his commentary on today's Morning Joe.

NICHOLAS KRISTOF: I'm sure that at mosques around this country, especially the more radical mosques, this is going to be seen as one more evidence that people are picking on us.

So Kristof acknowledges the existence in America of "radical mosques." Isn't that the very proof of the need for inquiry along the lines Peter King is conducting? What Kristof suggests sounds like appeasement.  People in "radical mosques" might feel like they're under scrutiny?  Good.

Inhospitable?

Submitted by FaulknerFan on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 9:00am.

Lets see now. We are concerned that we might be viewed as being inhospitable to people who have killed thousands of us in the past and are sworn to continue to kill us until we give them all we have and believe in. Damned if I don't think that some of these liberal talking heads are certifiably insane.

They offended me first, those radicals who want sharia law

Submitted by Funbowhunter on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 9:15am.

I am tired of the liberals coddling a religion who disparages women, kills those who convert away from it by beheading, want to have a theocracy, have honor killings, etc. etc. etc. Thank you Mr. King for having these hearings!

What's the bigger concern?

Submitted by Ed Gregory on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 9:19am.

Dang, Faulkner, stole my thunder. Was gonna say he's concerned with us picking on them, but I'm more concerned with them trying to kill us. As for mooslums, their god is dead, and their religion is nothing more than a political ideology wrapped in rotting rags.

Kristoff is right,

Submitted by Agnostic on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 10:06am.

These hearings are extremely bad for those who truly want to defend the US and the citizens of this nation. Not because it will insult Islam, because it will, everything does, including our very existence. The reason this is extremely bad is because very few will see these hearings and the media will have hours of conversations to cherry pick (in some cases they won't have to cherry pick) sound bites that will cause anyone concerned with Islam to be portrayed in a racist/intolerant light.  They do this now but these hearings will give them much more material.

There will be no coverage of actual dangers so as usual alternative sources of news are the only places people may get a glimpse at the truth but the media will be out with their mega-phones with a whole set of ammo to use against anyone who questions the motivations of Islam.

  • The hearings will accomplish little to shine light on the actions of radical Islam
  • The information that would be brought forth is probably already on file in the offices of every agency concerned with national defense
  • Provides the media fodder for future attacks/defense of Islam
  • Provides the media fodder for future attacks on conservatives or anyone concerned with national defense
  • The hearings will serve as a distraction from what the administration is doing to push more socialist spending and pull more power into the Executive Branch.

I don't give a rat's left _______ about Muslims being offended

Submitted by Dave. on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 10:13am.

If they don't like it here (and I really hope they don't), they can pack up their turbans, robes, sandals, camel hair rugs, as well as their bombs, and get the Hell out of my America.

Islam is a fraud, and serves no purpose other than to enslave, terrorize, and kill. It has left nothing but destruction and death wherever it has been.

The "civilized world" may not yet understand that it is at war with all of Islam, but all if Islam is damn sure at war with the civilized world.

I do not understand why so many supposedly "enlightened" people are so painfully ignorant when it comes to this this bass-ackward, 7th Century, barbaric political movement.

For 1400 years, the Islamists have talked peaceful coexistence, all the while sharpeng their swords and waiting patiently for their enemies (which includes not just all infidels, but other Muslims as well) to show a weakness that they can exploit.

We have done the one thing you cannot do when dealing with these primitives - we have shown weakness.

I fear a coming generation of Americans (assuming there are actually going to be future generations of us - and that is not at all certain) are going to pay dearly for this hideously stupid mistake.

I do love the comparisons of Rep King to the 1954 anti-communist Sen. McCarthy hearings. It turns out McCarthy was correct in his suspicions. I suppose Rep King will be similarly vindicated, hopefully much quicker.

Political Correctness now a weapon of radical Islam

Submitted by Slyrr on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 10:27am.

The muslim radicals know a good thing when they see it. They knew they couldn't hope to defeat America militarily. But in the Left, Democrats and Liberals, they saw the perfect useful idiot allies. After seeing in 1993 how easily Disney caved after Arabs pretended to be offended by the lyrics in the opening song of 'Aladdin', Muslims knew they had just been handed the perfect weapon - political correctness. Now they don't even have to wage jihad. They just have to gather a gang of shouters together and get them to pretend to be 'offended' by this and that, and the liberals/Demorats will fight FOR them. But nearly 20 years and people are finally starting to awaken. You can't appease these people no matter how hard you try. We tried appeasement all those years, and what did we get for it? A burning, smoking crater in Manhattan where 3,000 people died just trying to go to work one morning. The time has come to stop trying to placate people who will never be satisfied. Political correctness and multiculturalism have failed. The time has come to live our lives and if Muslims are 'offended', then the time has also come to let them wail and scream and just ignore them. So let them scream about these hearings. But don't pay any attention to them. They have the right to speak, but they don't have the right to be listened to. Eventually, once they see that they can't trick us into slitting our own throats, they'll grumble and whine and retreat to their terrorist caves and we can FINALLY get back to prosecuting terrorists and wiping them out in their hidey-holes.
If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Radical or otherwise

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 10:56am.

The other day I mentioned Zuhdi Jasser who is taking part of the hearings.  He doesn't agree with the radical muslims and some of what he says makes me think the reason the "muslim community" doesn't say much is because they are in fear of their lives from the radicals.

For the longest time, I had equated all muslims in the same category but after reading this:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/03/09/american-muslims-view-communit...

I'm wondering if there really are two separate groups of Muslims after all and it's the radicals that are really giving them a bad name.

The only thing I'm not clear on is if this group of Muslims that Jasser(I wonder if Rima Fakih would be part of it) is part of is if they look to something else besides the Koran and the writings of a pedophilic madman.  Does anyone know?

Iron-y-deficient diet....

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 11:16am.

Absolulely de-frickin'-licious in the stratospheric level of self-UN-aware and clueless irony in this idiot's professed fears.

Gee, don't arrest serial killers and/or lunatic mass-murderers, you'll just make them angry! Don't you dare interrupt the cadre of crazed suicide bombers huddled in the basement, who are busily working their crooked little fingers to the bone as they prepare for a glorious mass detonation at a Times Square New Year's Eve gathering. You'll just upset their fragile little psyches and make them even madder. Just leave them alone and hope for the best.

While no one is advocating mass Muslim internment camps, yada, yada, yada, the fact remains that the best way to avoid dying from a malignant, aggressively-growing cancer tumor is to identify where it is and to remove it from the body before it proves fatal.

As has been often defined in the past -- Diplomacy is the art of saying, "Nice doggy," while looking around for a great big rock.
