Mika Makes Excuses For Vile WI Signs—Till She Sees Them

By Mark Finkelstein | February 21, 2011 | 09:30

A  A

Mika Brzezinski learned a life lesson this morning: look before you leap to defend liberals . . . [h/t reader Ray R]

At the top of Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough referenced the hateful emails he and Mika had received from the left and the similarly ugly signs held by Wisconsin union protesters.  Mika reflexively defended the vileness, saying that people were "hurting and really don't feel like they're being heard."

Aww.  But later, the show rolled video of some of the Wisconsin signs, including one with crosshairs on Gov. Walker, another calling him Hitler, one accusing him of rape, and of course that great old standard "death to tyrants."

To her credit, Mika did change her tune.  View video after the jump.

Admitting that she hadn't previously seen those signs, Mika agreed with Joe that if Tea Partiers held up something similar, "they'd be on a [MSM] loop."

View the video and watch Mika's change of heart as she runs headlong into the hard reality of what's happening in Wisconsin.

Note: this is my first item after my recent move to Texas.  Back online now.  Lone Star regards to our NewsBusters readers!

Back in the seventies I watched a union at one of our highest paying factories literally drive the company out of town.  They had the highest pay and benefits in town but every time the company posted a profit within a year the union went on strike because they felt the profits belonged 'to the people who created it'.  Eventually the company gave up, closed up and moved to the South.

In the early 80's the oil refineries went on strike.  After about a year or so, they went back to work.

The 'break even date"? NEVER!!!

They lost their butts.  Too bad that the refineries didn't go non-union then.

Actually, it lasted about 3 months (nation-wide), but your point that there is NO break-even point is absolutely true.

Union membership is declining in America, as workers are faced with competition for jobs here and abroad.  More and more employers are deciding it's time to run their business based on balance sheets instead of union demands.

Why else would the union thugs hang on so tenatiously?  I imagine they fear having to actually work for a living, like the people they extort dues from.

Can someone show me one single example of labor unions making any company operate more efficiently or profitable?  I can't seem to find a single one...

The BP strike in 1988 did

Submitted by stratman on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 4:19pm.

The BP strike in 1988 did last ~3 months.

My brother was middle management for BP and was sent to the Toledo refinery.  He worked 12 on, 12 off for at least 4-6 weeks before getting his first 24 off, and was paid extremely well.  Except for the rare one day off, they were not allowed to leave the compound, even to go to Tony Packos down the street.  Toledo was peaceful but strikers were violent at other locations, maybe because they fed the strikers and had good relations with some of them.

While not ideal in any fashion, the striking workers saw that others could do their jobs.  Management figured out they neither wanted to do the strikers jobs nor spend more in wages on middle management, plus the PR was not that good.

I don't recall if the strike resulted in much for the strikers.

Seen that with my own two eyes more than once. When they move here all they talk about is how great Texas is when ya ask why they left they tell ya some BS about could not find a job. And how do you know that these people came from Texas?  Did they show you proof?  I would suspect that if they were Texans, they were the dregs that didn't care about anything, there are a few of them across the state.  But I guess it's only Texas since no one else seems to have them....oh wait, you did mention California.  I suspect that every state has them.

I would submit that Texas is a big state with a larger population and the chances of you seeing what you saw especially coming from Texas are very likely.  But I would also submit that those fools would not represent Texas on a large scale in any way shape or form.

I'll put it this way, they represent Texas as much as DuhOne represents America, which is to say, not at all.

And to try to steer this back on topic, the same is true for those "protesters" not wanting Gov Walker to do what he wants to do, the unions don't represent the population of Wisconsin.

Group A is large and law abiding, with fringe "members" being focused on to smear the whole group.

Group B is small but numerous, with multiple law breakers, which are treated as fringe.

BOTH groups state they self-police, with Group A "outing" their fringe as being plants/La Rouche types. While Group B opts to disavow and protect themselves without help from "the man" from their fringe.

Which group gets fair press? An unbiased look?

Mika a broken clock?

Submitted by jon_torlin on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 10:24am.

Is Mika a broken clock?(right twice a day)  Or did something else happen and she's wising up?  Nah, couldn't be.

Mark, welcome to Texas, which part of it are you living in?  And if you haven't figured it out already, it's really true that Texas is a whole 'nother country.  And depending on where you live, it can take 3-5 hours to go somewhere in Texas and you're still in the state.

Oh and when it's time for your Texan-naturalization, just remember, state flower is the blue bonnet, capitol is Austin, state bird is the mocking bird, the Texas Rangers are two separate entities, one's with law enforcement(it's the FBI version of the DPS which is the state police), the other is the baseball team, and Dr. Pepper was made in Waco.   Remember those things and you'll do all right. ;-)

As for these "vile signs," if Mika was changing her tune after seeing them, how would other lib-journos feel about them?

BTW, pecan is not pronounced "pee-can" like some northerners pronounce with a slight emphasis on the first syllable.  It's "puh-KAHN" or "peh-KHAN," not much emphasis on first syllable, but more on the second.  If you say it the wrong way, you might get a grin and a chuckle out of some folks. ;-)

Even though I did point it out that it was the state bird, I didn't mention that I can't stand the little buggers.  They are the divas of the bird world, translation: they sing great but nasty attitudes!  You don't dare turn your back on them because you never know if you'll get a sneak attack from them.

Of course it's kinda funny at first when they go after cats and dogs, but it's even funnier when a cat wises up and pretends to not watch and catch one!(did I mention I can't stand them?)  That's when you know one of them mocking birds got a bit overconfident thinking it could get away.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing the extinction of these birds.  I just think of them as some people who sometimes bite off more than they can chew and then they get in trouble.

He loathed the mockingbirds that nested in his hedge, dive bombing his precious granddaughter.  He'd carry a broom when we had to walk by that hedge, and try to knock them out!  I don't recall that he ever did.

They used to go after my greyhound, too.  I'd have him outside and they'd take on all hundred pounds of him.  Of course, he just ran!

Submitted by Tomorama on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 10:58am.

The galling thing is I HAVE SEEN SOME OF THESE signs on the news recently and they WERE NOT POINTED OUT by the ahem, reporters or ahem anchors, meaning it is A-OK.

Can't blame Meeeeka, she only watches MessNBC and reads the Slimes and get's tweets from the WH, how would she know?

Jimspice, morning genius, you DO realize that plants WERE CAUGHT at Tea party rallies don't you and the MILLIONS and the rock means MILLIONS...... of the folks at the Beck rally were specifically asked for NO inapproriate signs don't you?

My bad, you get you're "news" at the same place Meeeka does don't you genius?

Living under a rock?

Submitted by sherlock1 on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 11:15am.

No, Mika does not live under a rock - she is simply used to being told what to believe and obediently doing so.  Liberals like to have their opinions provided, not find them on their own, because they are much more concerned about believing what the cool kids believe than with seeing the truth.

"I hadn't seen those." That

Submitted by forest on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 11:25am.

"I hadn't seen those."

That sums it up.  And I'm sure she hadn't seen them because she gets her information from the NYT and such.

I'd complain, but it givew us an advantage to know both sides while they don't even look.

Ron Paul?

Submitted by mazza on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 11:30am.

Since I wasn't watching this morning, who in the background predictably said "it was Ron Paul who first used the Mubarak reference" ?

Fifth generation Texan here in Houston.

Mika consistently shows everyone that she got her job the old fashioned way- through her daddy!

I can do w/out teachers better than they can do w/out my $$$

Submitted by Free Stinker on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 12:00pm.

If teachers in NJ pull this crap, I say fire them all !

I have already spoken with my wife about this, and she will teach them English, History, and Portuguese, I will teach Math, Science, & Geography in the evening after work. (and the kids can sleep in in the morning).

I can do without public schools teaching my kids far better than they can do without me paying their salary.

MIKA-----I NO SEE ANY EVIL...

Submitted by Herbster on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 12:31pm.

The woman continues to be a practicing moron.  The only person in America who, "Didn't see those signs."  Wow!  Now there's a GREAT "Excuxe."   If it wasn't for her daddy, she'd be picking sh_ _ with the chickens!  No wonder the morrning Joke show comes in fifth in a four man race.

This isn't new.

Submitted by jfhdsiu on Mon, 02/21/2011 - 1:39pm.

Does anyone remember several years ago when the leader of the UAW, (?), got on television and said, (slightly paraphrased), "If you don't give us what we want, WE WILL SHUT THIS COUNTRY DOWN"? Looks like the same thing in Wisconsin, (and your state in the near future), only now it's the TEACHERS union. Oh yeah "it's for the "CHILREN", (spelled as I heard it without the 'D')! Teachers? Of what?
