Obama Email Preaches Civility--Then Seeks $$ To Defeat Those Lying Republicans

By Mark Finkelstein | January 29, 2011 | 14:57

A  A

Come, let us reason together with our GOP compatriots.  But in the meantime, send us some cash to defeat those Republican liars. That was the decidedly mixed message that this fervent hope-and-changer received from Pres. Obama today in his fundraising email on behalf of Harry Reid and his merry band at the Dem senatorial campaign committee.

PBO was clearly trying to channel the new "civility" fad.  The email's subject was "Lift Our Country," and contained the prez's earnest admonition that "it is not enough to talk about common ground. We must -- together -- seek it."  Can you feel the love?

A bit later, the president informed us that "this is a moment that calls for respect and a seriousness of purpose from lawmakers of every party and persuasion." But just when you thought PBO was about to propose splitting the fund-raising take with his Republican soulmates, the prez couldn't stop himself from taking a typical partisan shot:

"The DSCC has set a goal of raising $50,000 by January 31 to ensure they have the resources to beat back mistruths and distortions, hire staff for the next set of races, and support the work of Democrats in the Senate."

Mistruths and distortions?  Where I come from, we call those lies. And PBO wants to "beat them" back?  How ineffably uncivil!

Think the MSM will point out the inherent hypocrisy of Obama's message? Neither do I.

Do as I say,

Submitted by UpNorth on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 3:02pm.

not as I do.  It's the Obama way.  Beat back mistruths?  By bringing a gun to the fight if they bring a knife?  Get in their faces?  Make them ride in the back?

Yeah, this guy is just the role model for civility and decorum.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

"..seriousness of purpose..".

Submitted by ant on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 3:21pm.

"..seriousness of purpose..". That must be like working on a healthcare abomination and a bid to get the Olympics while unemployment sweeps the nation, or jumping right on a disastrous oil spill 2 months after it happens, or a seriously purposeful vacation, then another, then another...

Nice pitch but rather late

Submitted by TerryWest on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 3:30pm.

Nice pitch but rather late I'd say as America already began to beat back the lies and distortion and hopefully began to raise this great country of ours back off her knees last November.

Obama

Submitted by Robersire on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 3:38pm.

Obama was my con person of the year of 2008. He is still conning the public and people are blind if they can't see it. He kis desroying America and those who can't see it have their heads in the sand or up their butt, which isn't a pretty picture.

"it is not enough to talk about common ground....

Submitted by DaveInNM on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 4:05pm.

The left's idea of "finding common ground" and "compromise" consists of wanting total capitulation to THEIR ideas from the right.

It's like when Weiner and King were on Fox together, and Weiner said something about how the Dems had gotten 95% of their side to vote for some bill they could have passed all on their own, and then accused King about the Repubs only having something like 3% vote for it, and he finished by saying, (paraphrasing,) "That's just great!" very sarcastically.

Like daring NOT to line up behind a totally leftist agenda is somehow criminal, and having so many Dem votes just went to prove that the bill deserved to be passed.

Obama is the worst with this attitude.  His whole, "We won!  Get in line!" and "You Repubs will have to sit in the back because WE'RE in control now" stuff backfired big time in November, 2008.

He's going to end up beaten to death with all the broken campaign promises from his '08 campaign.  Every bill will be online for five days before he'll sign them?  He hasn't done that with a single one.  Go through the budget line by line eliminating waste?  I doubt he even reads what's put in front of him for signature.  Close Gitmo within a year?  Not a sign of it's closing.

He talks a good game, but doesn't actually do the work to get it done.  At least last time he could use the excuse that he didn't really understand the ramifications of all the promises he was making.  There'll be no such excuse in this next election, and his "charisma", (I don't see it myself,) isn't going to be enough to pull him through this time.

Example of hypocrisy

Submitted by NotFondOfLibs on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 4:15pm.

This e-mail is a prime example of the duplicity and hypocrisy of Obama and his snooping wife.  These people have to be removed in November, 2012 no matter the cost.  Obama has no idea how to revive jobs in the private sector, yet is responsible for the loss of jobs in the oil industry in the gulf area with his moratorium on offshore drilling.  He will not revive this economy if he is given 12 years as President.  By that time, the readings of Karl Marx will be required in all schools and churches in this country.

Tucson Public Schools already teach La Raza

Submitted by Cactus Kurt on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 8:30pm.

They are already teaching La Raza in the Tucson Public School System (yes, Tucson).  The final plan for the La Raza movement includes the ethnic cleansing of Americans of European, African, and Asian descent out of "Aztlan."

$1 billion in 2012?

Submitted by okiehawk44 on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 5:47pm.

Think about this for a moment.

Obama has said it will take $1 billion for him to win reelection in 2012 -- One Billion Dollars for the most beloved and successful president since the beginning of America to be reelected.

Seems to me if he is "all that" he should have to spend nothing on his reelection in 2012.

okie, I was just going to

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 11:07pm.

okie, I was just going to bring that up.

You see, it's not HIM, you understand, but he just knows that the Republicans are going to ignore his calls for civility, so he needs that billion to fight them off!!

I wonder if he'll use his "Oh, and did I mention he's <whispering> black?" line this time.  You know, just in case we forget, like Chris Matthews.

Nothing this guy ever does is his fault.  He HAD TO forgo federal funds in '08 because those nasty Republicans were going to be mean to him.    Now, again, it's THEIR FAULT that he needs even MORE money to fight them off.

Sorry to say, this man is cut from the same  material as Bill Clinton, and sickens me just as much.

Unfortunately

Submitted by hbnolikeee on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 11:17pm.

the amount of money BO can and will accumulate to enable him to finish the country off will be formidable.  If the GOP doesn't find an avenue to match him,  he will be difficult to beat.  You know for a billion bucks, you can buy a lot of votes.

Gotta Point To An Enemy

Submitted by Boil It Down on Sun, 01/30/2011 - 3:08am.

As Finkelstein says here he "couldn't stop himself from taking a partisan shot". I honestly believe that he is genetically predisposed to this behavior. Beyond that, his history makes it clear that his indoctrination was pretty thorough. I think he could study Reagan for the next thirty years and not understand that uniting the country, in part, means not pitting one group against another. How is it that anyone portrayed Obama as "the great uniter"? Did they not listen to him at all?

I wonder again if anyone has put together a greatest "hits" video of Obama characterizing one segment or another of the American people as the enemy or the villains. I imagine that it could be feature length by now. I know that the majority of the population were the villains.
