Cenk's F-word Variant Drags MSNBC To Vulgar New Low

By Mark Finkelstein | January 26, 2011 | 20:41

A  A

It's enough to make you miss Ed Schultz's elegant, elevated tone.  OK, I jest, but Cenk Uygur, usurper of Schultz's 6 PM ET slot, hit a vulgar new low on MSNBC this evening.  The self-styled 'Young Turk' used a variation of the f-word in fulminating about Paul Ryan's response to the SOTU.

Watch the video after the jump and note that Ugyur's crassness came during prepared remarks, not in an off-the-cuff comment.  This was profanity with malice aforethought. Some poor under-assistant producer had to upload it into Cenk's teleprompter.

For good measure, a Dem congresswoman thereupon called Ryan's remarks "vicious." Welcome to the new age of civility!

Watch Cenk drag MSNBC even further down--if that's possible. The segment began with a clip of Rep. Ryan describing the future if we continue down the liberal path, without reforming entitlements.

PAUL RYAN: This is a future in which we will transform the social safety net into a hammock which lulls able-bodied people into lives of complacency and dependency.

. . .

CENK UGYUR: Is unemployment insurance a hammock that lulls able-bodied people into lives of complacency and dependency?  Does Representative Ryan think those people don't want to work? They just got laid off!  They weren't looking for a fr---in' hammock!

Joining me now is Illinois congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. She served with Congressman Ryan on the Committee for Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. Congresswoman, are you disturbed by some of Representative Ryan's proposals and his idea for what the social safety-net represents?

JAN SCHAKOWSKY: Well I actually find it absolutely frightening.  Not only vicious and insulting, but really scary.

Cenk Uygur, Wrong First and Vulgar Next

Submitted by Boil It Down on Wed, 01/26/2011 - 9:06pm.

Jan Schakowsky is on record as a socialist. So they trotted out a socialist to defend their position. To them I would say, look at Europe, Paul Ryan is demonstrably correct.

Cenk Uygur  has no concept of how Americans have been lulled into the complacency of entitlements even though it is so obvious. Schakowsky, the fear monger, called Ryan frightening, vicious, insulting and scary.(nice civility there) The horrors perpetrated on the masses due to communism don't seem to bother her a bit. She serves as their perfect "useful idiot". Ironically, Schakowsky's Illinois provides an excellent example to prove Ryan's point.

You just need to know the meaning of terms to not be offended by them.

Like sock tucker - someone who tucks his or her pants legs into the tops of their socks.

Or mother frocker - someone who sells maternity clothes.

Last but not least, cork socker - someone who works in a winery slamming the corks into the bottles of wine.

Oh, don't forget Shiite, as in the Middle East is full of Shiite, but they still manage to have a  Sunni day every now and then.

Now with Kachink Urper, "frickin" is turkish for "Infidels, you die!"  I'm betting that Kachink is a direct descendant of Suliman.  He also had the name of Solong which I think Kachink is going to be before long.

There is a term I learned

Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Thu, 01/27/2011 - 8:25am.

in the Army about 35 years ago, used to describe a very confused situation.  It's not one for polite company, but very accurate in it's use for description.  If you watch an unedited version of Clint Eastwood's Heartbreak Ridge and then watch the TV version, you'll see a difference between the true phrase and the one I still use in public.

There's a scene where Eastwood's unit is recalled for quick deployment and everyone is mustering with the gear they're supposed to have.  A lot of stuff isn't there and no one seems to understand what's going on.  The General, who Gunny Highway (Eastwood) knew from years before, asks how they're doing.  Highway replies, "It's a real Cluster Flop."

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

Out of three adult "children" laid off in the past 2 1/2 years, one stepson thoroughly enjoyed his unemployment, moved home for almost a year, played video games all day, occasionally applied ONLINE for jobs and had plenty of disposable income from Obama's "stash" to buy cigarettes, beer and go on trips. (Sorry, I had no control, as he's not my kid.) He took a job before unemployment was extended and was really angry that he did, when he could have sat around longer.  Yep, it's a hammock.

Cenk Uygur is only the latest vulgar addition to the MSNBC line up of far left propagandists (straight from central casting at Asshats-are-Us).  The nastiness of the attacks on Tea Party spokesmen and conservatives today following Obama’s lame SOTU address is no accident.  It is designed to discredit any attempt to reverse the statist policies of the last congress.  So much for the new tone, these are Obama’s surrogates and their mission is to destroy the credibility of the opposition.

It's the same thing

Submitted by Nonanon on Thu, 01/27/2011 - 4:30am.

It seems the attitude behind the phrase is the same regardless of the actual letters.  You could say fluffin', flippin', tennis shoein', whatever, and although the precise word is not spoken, you are still projecting the same attitude but thinking not using the actual 'F' word makes it all fine.  It seems to show the same intent in my mind.  Thus it has always disturbed me.  I must also confess I have let these phrases fly a few times although I try to resist them, but I don't think it was right.

Are you deliberately being obtuse?

"Frickin' " is how you say "f*cking" when you can't say "f*cking". "Darn" or "heck" are NOT replacements for the word "f*cking". So, your comparison of this word with the examples you presented are silly.

That particular non-curse word curse word naturally is disturbing to people who don't appreciate curse words.

Mr. Shy....

...just chill. The term "frickin" isn't necessarily a substitute for fscking. Maybe to you it is...but for others it isn't. It isn't around my circle of people. Some people use it as a substitute for "freakin'."

FYI...it is quickly becoming apparant that "darn," "heck," "gosh," etc... are their own interjections and not substitutes for "damn," "hell," and "God." Just ask any teenager or younger if those terms mean anything other than literal. I bet you that they don't know what they used to stand for. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? When I grew up..."hell" was considered a bad word. Heck, I'd take "heck" any day.

So please...let's not get our panties in a bunch. This is nothing...absolutely friggin' much a frickin' do about nuthin'. It makes us conservatives look like a bunch of Bible thumpin' closed minded intolerant neocons. There are much issues to get worked up over. Shoot...this ain't one of 'em.

"I am a bible thumping catholic and am closed minded about vulgarity and immorality."

First off, long time...

Nicely said and retorted. I'm not a Catholic or religious much at all (so I don't thump bibles), and I do tend to curse at times because I was born/raised in New York City. But I fully respect people who'd like to see our culture take a healthy step or two back for the betterment of our decaying society and culture, which is anything-goes these days.

So yeah, thump those bibles (a perfectly fine religious book) and let's try and not curse so much, including obvious curse-replacement words.

Unfortunately, dydx appears to be part of the problem of today's watered-down conservative movement, where he's apparently just a bit hipper than the "old, stodgy guard."

*sigh*

Submitted by dydx on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 10:44pm.

You're wrong. Friggin' or frickin' means friggin' or frickin'. Fucking means fucking. There is a world of difference. Shoot does not mean shit. Darn does not mean damn. Gosh does not mean God. Heck does not mean hell. Would you rather hear someone say "shit" or "shoot?"

If you are saying you would rather people say neither "shit" nor "shoot"...then yeah, I'd call you an intolerant Bible thumper. Sorry. I go to church regularly, and I would not go to a church filled with Bible thumpers. I don't dislike religion...just a purtitanical adherence to literal interpretations of only certain translations of our Holy Book.

This isn't watered down morality. It's only a question of morality to unyeilding moral zealots. Saying shoot is not vulgar. I'd guess that over 95% of decent people would agree. Saying heck is not vulgar. Would you consider calling someone a "dork" vulgar? There seems to be an agreement that it is a variant of "dick." Is that now off limits too?

Is saying "son of a bitch" vulgar? If you think about it...you're calling someone's mom a dog. The term bitch here is used properly. Yet I would consider this phrase more vulgar than saying, for example, "your mom is such a friggin' nice lady!" I see a difference, do you? Me being called a watered down conservative is much more offensive than me calling you a friggin' great conservative. Again...I'd say at least 90% of decent people would agree

If this is too hip for you old stogies to grasp, well what can I say. A substitute vulgar word may be an expletive to you and Mr. Shy, but it's an innocent interjection to someone else. To most everyone else really. There are a lot more major battles to fight. This isn't one of them.

I'm sure there are a few words commonly used nowadays that had vulgar origins that nobody knows or cares about. Is this the cause of our society's downfall? Does it even contribute? Is it really worth denigrating me and others over?

So there is precedent here, and I think Mark has a point. At the very least, television talk show hosts should be somewhat above that sort of thing. But, of course, not on MSNBC. I look forward to your thundering outrage.  Just to be fair.

Just to be fair, Jer?---

Submitted by matthewdean on Thu, 01/27/2011 - 11:59pm.

Why bother, as most libs don't seem to understand the concept. They cut it real close to exclusive when it comes to ignoring the bilge coming from their side. Just because you, as a lib, occasionally whack both sides, doesn't mean that a conservative getting an occasional pass from other conservatives somehow requires "thundering" outrage by the rest of the conservative "herd" in order to balance the eternal scales of either justice OR politics.

Ok, Jer---

Submitted by matthewdean on Fri, 01/28/2011 - 2:13am.

I shall look into having the conservatives up the ante, audibly speaking, on condemning their own; if you would be so kind as to have the liberals do the same for their side.

Ok; back to reality.

You and I both know that ain't gonna happen, but I believe that pound for pound, conservatives far outdo liberals when it comes to chastising bad behavior, of any kind, within their own clan.

Still waiting for your learned deracination to show how my use of the word 'reticence' was either incorrect or improper.  ???

Sure, Jer

But please keep your mouth shut when the lefties throw in "teabagger" comments.

I think Palin lost some stature with her WTF comment.  Such things are for anonymous people such as us.

But you've got to admit your side has gone overboard with their references to testicle lolling.

But by all means, don't condemn them.

Good grief, Cool...this is yet another example

Submitted by Jer on Fri, 01/28/2011 - 1:20am.

of why I have been forced on occasion to refer to my posting history [for which I get criticized and likely will be again] in order to point out facts about which some here--who should know better--have apparently been completely oblivious.

I did not and have not kept "my mouth shut" about "teabagger" comments.  I have consistently condemned them.  The only aspect of that controversy about which I have offered a slightly divergent view is whether or not in a few of the instances cited in the blogs the speaker was actually aware of the pejorative connotation of the term.  [Gwen Ifill for example.]  Otherwise, I find the term deplorable and those who employ it to be classless jerks--an opinion I have expressed and made crystal clear in the past.

Okay?

If I was hanging out with a crowd that predominantly brought with them "ill intent", each day, every day, I'd go hang out somewhere else with a different crowd.

I'm silly like that.

And "ill intent" is in quotation marks because we love your hyperbolic use of the English language.

Yes, we love one thing about you.

Whether the media wants to acknowledge it or not there are many people sitting back collecting unemployment and they have no intention of looking for a job.  Why should they when they got the nanny state taking care of them.  Poor Jan just can't face the real facts.

Submitted by mostlymoderate on Fri, 01/28/2011 - 2:57am.

Cenk is becoming unhinged.  I am willing to bet $50 that he follows in the footsteps of  that hispanic fella that was fired saying Jon Stewart was a bigot and could get away with it because he was Jewish, just like everyone at CNN.  The guy was such a nobody that I can't remember his name.  All I know is that he was hispanic.
