Does 'Sidwell Friends' Ring Bell With Morning Joe Crowd Bashing Barbour?
If you were Haley Barbour's political consultant, and he had indicated his intention to make his reported remarks about the White Citizens Council, would you have counseled him to reconsider? I sure would have.
That said, there was a hypocritical double-standard on display by the Morning Joe folks who turned Haley slowly over a spit today. Hat tip NB reader Ray R.
Eugene Robinson took the lead in belting Barbour for sending his children to private schools in Mississippi rather than to local public schools attended by black children. Joe Scarborough chimed in with his Mississippi-childhood recollections of such post-integration private academies springing up. Mike Barnicle did his bit, contributing the tale of whites in South Boston pulling their kids out of integrated public schools in favor of parochial and private ones.
One thing was missing from the conversational mix, however: any reference to the tradition of Dems in DC--from Bill and Hillary, to the Gores, to of course the Obamas--sending their kids [or in the case of the Bidens, grandkids] to tony private schools like Sidwell Friends rather than to the heavily African-American public DC schools.
Watch the convenient selective memory on display.
EUGENE ROBINSON: When the schools were integrated, then what happened, well, the whites formed a segregation academy, a private academy, where they all sent their kids, leaving the public schools to the black kids. So people are going to want to know: well, Haley Barbour, when you had kids, where'd you send them to school? Did you send them to the public school? My understanding is that he didn't. He sent them to the academy, and you know, that sort of question --
JOE SCARBOROUGH: By the way, that is one thing that I do remember. These little academies, seriously, would just crop up in the middle of like farm fields. It was like, they'd build a house, and that was where a lot of the kids would go.
MIKE BARNICLE: You can fast-forward from Yazoo City, Mississippi in the '50s to Boston, Massachusetts in the mid-1970s at the height of the bussing crisis.
ROBINSON: Oh yeah.
BARNICLE: When white children were withdrawn from public schools and sent to parochial schools and newly-formed academies.
I'm particularly struck by the willingness of Mike Barnicle, self-styled champion of the proles, to throw his plebeian brothers under the bus, you should excuse the pun, while not breathing a word of the practices of the Dem ruling classes.

The Democrats and the sub rosa version of JournoList are working overtime to discredit possible GOP candidates for 2012. I haven't actually heard or read the text of what Haley Barbour said, but if I were him, I'd use Breitbart tactics to counter the media mash.
Hipocrisy doesn't count if you're a Democrat. Rules and modeling behavior are simply for the "little people." They do put Leona Helmsley to shame. They don't "walk the walk, but they do love to talk the talk."
Sidwell Friends Tuition schedule for 2010-2011

And like Sarah Palin he must be destroyed because the Left fears him.
I mean why else go into this, now.
In talking about integration and Mississippi when he was growing up, "You heard of the Citizens Councils? Up north they think it was like the KKK. Where I come from it was an organization of town leaders. In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody who started a chapter of the Klan would get their ass run out of town. If you had a job, you'd lose it. If you had a store, they'd see nobody shopped there. We didn't have a problem with the Klan in Yazoo City."
Someone really ought to sit down with Eugene Robinson and teach him how to speak.
They are worried about Barbour

When one does a side by side comparison in the actions after Hurricane Katrina, Gov. Barbour looks liek a take-charge no-excuses leader whereas Gov. Blanco in Louisiana was paralyzed and pointing fingers.
Barbour is a long time GOP operative and elected leader who knows how to raise money. The Dems want to rough up his reputation early.

99% of Congress, SCOTUS, POTUS, Hollywood, many on the Left Coast & Right Coast all send there children, Grand Children to private schools while denying Average Americans the choice to sned there kids to those same schools using the funds they pay for Public school's by way of the Voucher system that Congress Vehelmently oppose especially in the Metro DC area School's, why is that !! Maybe we need to have another 20/20 Investigation, oh nevermind cause many in the MSM also send their kids to these same schools. So I guess we have entered into a new era of Shadow Desegragation where the elite that can afford to do so while us poor Middle Class citizens are stuck with the shitty school's around the Country and the vast majority of kids are stuck in a rut never to have the chance that those elitest who can afford to send there's have.
Time to maybe shut down all the prochical schools as well as private schools so everyone has to use the same school system until we all have the same option to use all these school's thru a Voucher program, especially when we constantly hear the MSM and Congress talk about compeition where the best School's win out over poorly managed ones or at the minimum force them to do better or shut down altogeather due to poorly managed school's or School system's. So in the end we can't have our cake and eat it to unless your an elitest like these idiots and Bourber, or Biden, Congress, Pelosi, left Coast ect.....

MSNBC should have every member of congress and the administration whose kids attend the D.C. public schools on the show some morning.
I'm betting it won't require more than a couple of more chairs to get them all on the set.
... and FYI, if I lived in D.C. I would never put one of my children in that gulag they call an education system. Difference is, I ain't a mealy mouthed scumbag politician.

Apparently, what Haley Barbour said was that he didn't remember the the Civil Rights movement being all that bad, at least where he was growing up.
Of course, Robinson and his ilk ( never fail to pass up an opportunity to use race) were all over him.
Funny, this is the same crew that had no problem with Barack Obama's ascertion that the church he belonged to for many years (where racial animous towards whites was routine) was something he never heard or at least was never present for.
Get used to this type of stuff moving forward, the left will use race more than ever in 2012.
This was the first taste of it.
Excellent point, mad

And given that Barbour is commenting on what he observed and assessed as a youth while Obama is claiming he never saw Wright's racial hatred as an adult, I think the comparison is more than fair.

It's just too bad that many more American parents over the last five or six decades didn't act similarly, but intead voted to send ever increaing amounts of money down the rat-hole that is government education.
Perhaps had they taken more of an interest in what their children were being "taught" in government schools all over America, we would not have voted ourselve's to the very brink of extinction as a free republic, and the name Barack Hussein Obama would have no meaning to anyone outside of Chicago.

You are a cold-blooded, racist liar. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.
I am absolutely 100% caucasian white and I was in seventh grade in Jackson, Mississippi, the year they implemented desegragation. My junior high school went from 99% white to 55% black. The first thing our new classmates did was totally trash the school. They pulled the toilets up from the boy's room and smashed them against the wall. We didn't have lockers for our books because they totally destroyed them. We had constant bomb threats and rumors of after school race fights.
Did you note that I said our school went 55% black? That means it was still 45% white, you moron. In case you are too stupid to catch my drift... I am pointing out to you that not ALL white parents pulled their children out of public school.
But maybe they should have. Had my parents known what my sister went through, I think they would have. My sister was in 9th grade at what had been an all black school. Now it was a mixed, single grade school. My sister was a bit fiesty... maybe too much for her own good. She was once in the hallways changing classes when a member of the opposite race/sex decided to lift her dress for a quick look. She whirled around, slapped his face and told the N' word to keep his hands too himself. She was fortunate that the biggest, the meanest, the ugliest, the nastiest father raper of them all, appreciated her spunk and took her back repeating her words to the offender. Nobody messed with her again.
At 12 years old, I recognized that the liberals were lowering white education levels rather than raising black education levels. That is one of the reasons I am so conservative today.
Yes, a lot of whites fled to the white council schools... out of justified, abject fear of the alternative.
As I look back on this disturbing part of my life, I recognize that MOST of the black students I was caught up with... were in the same boat I was. It was a distinct minority within the minority that caused all these fears and problems. It seems to be the same group the liberals are always trying to promote.

If this is all the Morning Joe crew has to criticize Barbour with, they're desperate.
I looked up Haley's bio...none of which included his children, but he's been married for 38 years, so I'd suspect his children are all grown.
Secondly, and I spent ten minutes looking but couldn't find any list of the state rankings for education (lots of NEA propoganda and useless stats, tho)...I'm sure Mississippi ranks in the bottom 10% for public schools, particularly when Barbour's children were small (!). Of course, these blabbing fools wouldn't connect those two dots...the salient point, of course, being, has Mississippi's public school system actually improved its standing under Barbour's management? Not whether he sent his kids to crappy schools when he had nothing to do with them other than pay for them.
These liberal spinmeisters are so utterly predictable. I bet I could rival Rush for my prediction(s) of what next comes out of their mouths.

. . . private schools attended by the Barbour children to see if they were integrated or not.
We all know the Left's double-standard:
- If a conservative sends his/her children to private school, it's because the conservative is a racist.
- If a liberal sends his/her children to private school, it's about security.
That argument is used most vociferously with the children of Democratic Presidents since Carter, whose daughter Amy attended DC public school.
But it defies logic.
If the Obamas sent their children to the neighborhood public school, the increased security would make it the safest schools in the DC system -- safe for all the students at the school.
Wouldn't such a school be less valuable as a terrorist target than Sidwell Friends School, which is loaded with kids of the President, Senators, Representatives, government notables, and the wealthy? The school may have increased security, but the temptation to hit it is greater because of the clientale.
I'll take that bet, Blonde.

Well at least they didn't blame George W. Bush THIS TIME for black people destoying everything they touch including public schools.
Why is it always white folks fault black folks, no matter how much money is wasted on them, fail?
It's time to call a spade a spade and put the blame where it belongs..........Barack Obama and his racist fundamental transformation ( reparations ) policies.
He has been an intergral actor ( instigator ) of race baiting through his associations, Rev. Wright's church, seeking out radicals, communists, intimately involved in A.C.O.R.N., his own subversive ( anti American, racist ) well documented written and spoken word.
He is not the innocent African American scholar he makes himself out to be.......not by any stretch of even the most rabid, left wing, bomb throwers imagination.
That race card may have served him well in the past, but now that he's pretending to be the leader of the free world, he's got some splaining to do.
